  1. Seriously, its all the same rumor reworded differently every single time.

  2. I don't have a strong feel for this guy one way or another. Not even sure he is even interested in this job. What intrigues me though is his knowledge and connections with foreign players and coaches around the world. NBA general managers and scouts, stationed overseas, consult with him about draft prospects throughout the year. After each selection of a foreign player in the NBA draft, the broadcasters kick it over to Fran for his expert analysis on the player. What a huge benefit that would mean to any mid major program. The main reason North Texas is nowhere near a top 25 program (closer to 75) is the lack of quality height. (And depth) Since we aren't in a position to attract the talented 6-11 - 7 footers out of high school, bringing over a developing foreign guy is quite appealing to me. Let's be real, most AAU coaches are trouble! These guys are about benefiting individually rather than truly helping the kid and/or school. We don’t want to build a program by working exclusively with the AAU circuit.I’m somewhat relieved that RV has moved on from Shawn Forrest and not felt pressure rush into a decision. We should not be looking for any quick fixes and band aids. I want a sustainable winning program with gradual year over year improvement. (Instead of shooting for 1 great year) I'm not in favor of any more Karen Aston type hires either. I think the Jeff Capel, Reggie Theus hires would be just that. Our goal should be to hire a good coach who will fulfill his initial 5-year contract and at a minimum 1 earned/deserved extension. This program, in a new league, in this market, will be just fine.

  3. 3. No one should be surprised by the potential failure of a proposed merger of the MWC and C-USA. A merger would mean one automatic NCAA tournament bid instead of two. The most likely scenario, according to league sources, is for a scheduling/television agreement. Expansion is likely with C-USA looking at North Texas, FIU, Louisiana Tech, Charlotte, UTSA and Middle Tennessee. The MWC would naturally look at Utah State and San Jose State and could possibly grab UTEP in a shift from C-USA to the more natural MWC. http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/58199/3-point-shot-msg-out-for-east-regional

  5. Terrible reporting. Odoh is signed. He is not going to get let out of his commitment, and, quite frankly, I think JJ has his sights set on other players besides North Texas recruits. It would be a huge waste of his time because THEY ARE SIGNED.

  7. I honestly don't see JJ going after our players. I know it is a business, but I don't see Johnny doing that.

  12. Nobody has done anything with St.John's resources in the last decade+ and really, with the exception of a couple of years when Artest (Metta World Peace) was there, they haven't done anything since in the last 20+ years. Fran Fraschilla would be a fine coach here. Plus, he absolutely adores Tony Mitchell's game, so we wouldn't have to worry about the new coach pissing off the golden goose!!

  13. They traded with St. Louis to get the #2 pick [ supposedly Robert Griffin III ] at QB. The cost: Their first Rd or 6th pick of this year.... Their second Rd pick or 39th pick in this draft.... Their first Rd pick in 2013 .... Their first Rd pick in 2014 .... St. Louis robbed them in my opinion .... and likely didn't need that QB. This trade moved the Skins past the Vikings, Browns and Bucs and put the Rams behind those three ( and may still get the player they want ) and getting a lot of high picks. Looks to me like the Rams made out like a bandit....

  14. First...my sincere thanks to ALL who played, participated in our silent auction (whether you became a winning bidder or not...you helped a great deal), who sponsored the event, who donated additional funds "just because", who provided some FANTASTIC BRISKET for the after event tailgate, and who volunteered to work the chains, down marker and referee. And, thanks to the fans who came out to watch and cheer your "heroes" on. It was a great day...and you...each and every one of you made it so. Final score was Green Team 18 - White Team 6, but it was much closer than that for the majority of the game...a score in "extra time" added to the green team's margin of victory. The good news is that we got out of the deal with only one injury that I am aware of...I think Hut sprained an ankle that might be a tad sore Sunday morning, but I saw him "up and about" at the spring game...so, I am keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery! OK, I still have some auction items to collect for, but when all is said and done...and after all expenses are deducted, your generosity has resulted in what appears to be a $3,000.00 donation the Andrew Smith memorial Scholarship Fund! Folks, that is the highest total in the nine year history of the event! Couldn't happen with you...each and every one of you! Give yourselves a well deserved pat on the back for a job well done! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves, and will come back for next year's game...I am going to hope to make it even bigger and better...with your help! NEXT YEAR'S GAME LOOKS TO BE SET FOR APRIL 13, 2013! Mark your calendars now and spread the word! We will, of course, confirm that date later, but I am told, at this point, that's the date for next year! So, mark it down, and we'll see everyone again on April 13th next season. If you have any comments, thoughts or suggestions regarding the event and how we might can make it even better, please...please PM me....I welcome your comments...positive or negative (but be nice!...Ha!)...and your suggestions. The event gets better because people care....so, let me know. And let me know if you would like to help plan and stage the event next year...help is always welcome. Again, thanks to one and all...WELL DONE! WELL DONE! It's makes me proud to be a member of the great Mean green Nation when I get to be around so many great and generous people. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

  17. Coach Chico is always a great, insightful interview. Couldn't hear much of Coach Skladany--his voice reminds me of Clint Eastwood. He kind of has a "Go ahead--make my day" attitude about him as well.

  18. If Odoh was a Tony Mitchell talent and unsigned, JJ WOULD do this to us in a second. It's a business, folks, and an loyalry JJ felt to UNT ended when he spoke at the opening press conference as the new coach at his Alma mater. It's not that JJ wouldn't do this to us, it's that he can't, and probably wouldn't want to because of Odoh being a borderline SEC talent.

  19. I think this is all just speculation. Unless JJ specifically said Odoh in a radio show , I don't see how this holds any water at all. Only thing i see is some poster who says " does this mean we get Odoh" after someone mentioned both Leonard & Forrest coming to Baton Rogue. Some tiger fans must think they can just grab whomever they want because they are LSU Let's all just remember this is the same site that started the AD & Jamie Dixon meeting in Atlanta talk. Several news outlets ran with the story and it was all over websites & twitter. Turned out untrue as Dixon was @ a pittsburgh penguins game the very night this so called meeting was taking place. There was never meeting. Another example of fine journalism I don't think JJ is after Odoh , I would hope not.

  24. You cannot get 95.3 in Fort Worth. You really can't get it any further west than far east Arlington, day or night. This upsets me. Although, with 95.3 on board and Reckless Kelley playing after the Spring game, is there really any doubt that 95.9 The Ranch will pick up our broadcasts? That would work out perfectly, as 95.9 can be heard from East Arlington all the way to a Mineral Wells, Brownwood line. And both play very similar music. Come on, Rick, make it happen.

  25. LSU can kiss my .... I hate their attitude of thinking because they are LSU we will just do what they want. We whipped them in Baton Rouge two years ago and would do it again this year. We will have a higher ranked team next year, so they can forget about any special arrangements. I like JJ, but I could care less if they win a game next year.

  26. I wish that MGRN would syndicate the games with stations in other markets in the region. At some point we have to think bigger.

  27. June is too busy with his inner city ministry to commit much time to recruiting, hence the reason he waited to see who Mac was after and then did, or tried to steal them. He has made little connections with DFW coaches. He will be gone in a year or two.

  28. I thought the Trent Johnson hire was epic fail for that kind of money.

  29. Then for the promotions aspect that would make it a good choice for a radio station. Yet I did like this MGRN write-up when it said our coverage radar covered 10 million citizens, but I guess we;ll have to sacrifice a few fans with this new station? http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=1800&ATCLID=68062 GMG!

  31. I cannot get a good reception out here in Parker County and I thought I would have been able to. Maybe night reception is better? Did the decision-makers on this simply make a long drive around the the peripheal parts of all the North Texas Metroplex before they decided on this FM station might be a good question. If it can be picked up in Fort Worth and Dallas I suppose that is all we need. Religious station or not, I could pick up 100.7 FM just fine out here and that was all that mattered to me. We also had a 2'nd station at one time out in Longview/Tyler. That disappeared at some point, but it could not have hurt our east Texas presence at all. So.....maybe add another FM station or 2 like we have done before? GMG!

  32. yyz28 As for the "hypocrisy" here - there is a good reason for their handling of these situations differently. Social security fraud is a problem for which the government has found a solution, but voter fraud is not a problem. According to the Republican National Lawyer's Association, there has been only 1 prosecution for vote fraud in Texas worth mentioning since 2004 - and even then it was a violation which an ID would not have stopped. Of course it shouldn't be a shock that there's hypocrisy in politics. What is a shock is that people blame anyone but themselves. Our politicians are hypocritical because we've asked them to be. An example: ...from the left: The voters want a President who will not "bail out" corporations, but make exceptions form GM or green energy companies. ...from the right: The voters want a president who wants to keep government from interfering in religion, contracts or personal rights, but make exceptions for gay marriage or marijuana. In short, don't complain about hypocritical politicians - we asked for them.

  36. I really don't think 95.3 has anywhere near the signal strength of 100.7. I can pick up 100.7 by about Mt. Vernon and still get it a long way west of Fort Worth. Unless it's changed recently, 95.3 is gone before I ever get to Fort Worth.

  38. Kinda like Jankovic may be waiting a long ass time because Larry Brown apparently thinks he is in his 50s. It was just a joke about SMU's crazy line of thought. But, it makes just about as much sense. Fran never won a tournament game while coaching at St. Johns, or anywhere, for that matter. But it bothers me that he had St. John's resources and never advanced. And yes, I would prefer Forrest of Fran. Proven recruiter who knows this team. If circumstances were different, I'd say go with a proven coach. Things aren't different. Oh, and I would be good with Mike Davis ahead of Fran, also.

  41. You would rather have an unproven head coach in Forrest over a proven one in Fran? I would love Fran if he wants to coach again. Not a big fan of Capel, but I am not sure why.

  44. I think he'd be just fine here. The guy can flat out coach. He beat us twice last year with vastly inferior talent. He's not my first choice, but I certainly wouldn't be upset if he got the job.

  45. From what I can gather it is open to all. But in retrospect, it would have been a helluva "perk" to Mean Green Club members to have been allowed first access (maybe the first hour or so of the "garage sale"). GMG
