Hmmm. I like this guy. Seems like a good assistant coach choice for Shawn Forrest or Jeff Capel.6 points

A proposed merger between the Mountain West and Conference USA “probably will not happen,” college football industry sources told CBSSports.com. Now a merger of the leagues appears even more unlikely. Whatever decision the leagues officially reach, Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson and C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky told CBSSports.com last month that a decision will be made by early June. By deciding to remain as separate leagues, both leagues would likely pursue additional members from other leagues to replace the schools that have left or will be leaving. After next season, Conference USA is losing UCF, Southern Methodist, Houston and Memphis, while the Mountain West, which loses TCU this summer, is losing Boise State and San Diego State next year. Because of these defections, the Mountain West will have to expand. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/brett-mcmurphy/186239033 points

The UT numbers are a bit deceiving though. They were unveiling a Ricky Williams statue an giving out free dime bags that day.3 points

He was talking about how great of a coach Peterson is... then said 'UNT and Peterson will be a great ALLIANCE... if you know what I mean'... all the while snubbing his nose... when he said the word 'Alliance' he looked directly at the camera and winked... Peterson and RV then looked at each other at laughed heartily... then he turned to Vito and put his fingers over his lips in a 'shhhh' fashion... things then went back to normal2 points

I'm just wondering if UNT will have the nerve to schedule women's games that conflict with UT women's games this year. The nerve!! Kidding.2 points

While I do agree that it seemed our offense spurted out some last year, we still was among the highest scoring offense in the league with a bunch of young players that never really found their shot.2 points

On page 4 of the Wake thread, "thedeacfan" references a comment that RV made at about 2:50 on the video, where Rick said something to the effect of "maybe he came here because of the AD", with said fan taking that as a statement about the Wake Forest AD. For one thing, can he not get the very strong likelihood that RV was making an attempt at self deprecating humor, rather than publicly criticize another school's AD when that (world of FBS athletic directors) is a pretty small world, with one's future employability depending at least somewhat on being respectful of an AD from another school? And for another, if the private school guys are so superior as they're always making themselves out to be, why didn't someone suggest to "thedeacfan" that it was probably just RV joking about himself, rather than airing dirty Wake Forest laundry? Not that anyone has a monopoly on stupid fan board posts.2 points

Oh....also that rumor that JJ had contacted SMU about their opening. It wouldn't surprise me if he did in those open days. Not because he actually was interested in the gig, but he wanted to scare LSU once it became apparent that their "wish list" targets were turning them down. LSU might have been afraid of getting into some sort of bidding war, so once all their other options were coming up empty, they felt they needed to write Jones a bigger check to take away any sort of perceived doubt in JJ's mind. In ther words, I think JJ completely destroyed the LSU AD in a game of high stakes poker.2 points

i would rather be LSU hiring J.J. than SMU hiring Larry Brown. what are they smoking on the hilltop?2 points

Just wears you out with these folks, doesn't it. Always the same from always the same crowd...looks like a very nice hire...out of the ACC, lots of experience, etc., etc. Welcome Coach...let's keep it moving forward. Welcome to the great Mean green nation....please pay the negative folks no mind as they try to wear you out as well........the vast majority of the Mean green nation are very happy to have you on the team!2 points

1). I want to get the best coach available. If there is someone better lets get him. 2). Good defense is the best way to start a running game. 3). Let not ever mention the Newman or Trilli years ever again. 4.) Winning against good opponents will get asses in the seats. 5). Its not Kaspars fault he graduated from NTSU and not UNT. Its just a name for crying out loud. 6.) Players will play for the coach that cares about them. 7.) GO MEAN GREEN.1 point

I think there would be a team revolt! Good defensive coach but his style of play will not get more asses in the pit. Kaspar seemed out of place on Blakely's team. A better fit would have been on Tommy Newman's squad. I really think SFA is a very good fit for Danny.1 point

Don't feel bad. You were just the last in a long line on this today. Apparently, some people don't have anything better to do than to monitor this board all day.1 point

Maybe we could start by being at least somewhat competitive when we play them. We need to start bringing our "A" game against Tulsa, every time we play them.1 point

Probably because he had been at Wake for 8 years without a real breakout season, however when the salary info becomes available it will paint more of the picture for us.1 point

Not very trendy here, I still have clip-on ties and mix stripes with plaids ; but I do like the trend and the pool we seem to be drawing from to hire major varsity sports head coaches of late in Denton. It will eventually pay off. Some call this shooting for the moon and I would bet it we only hit the barn it would still be higher than we've been most decades with project hires. Now onward we go to find a new men's BB coach. Can UNT steal one from one of the Big Boys ...because we, ie, Rick V did for WBB. GMG! PS: Do trends start with 3?1 point

WOW this is an impressive accomplishment! What a vote of confidence for North Texas. Go to some womens BB games next season and show support.1 point

Purple tie! I can't stand it. It hurts so bad. We miss you already JJ.1 point

I really think it's time for us to stop making decisions based on the ghosts of yesteryear. If making a decision and it going badly was the only reference point for NT athletics we'd never make another decision.1 point

Good Freaking ... the moaning starts. Its like some of you sit back and wait for something to be done/said so you can give us your "expert" opinion on where RV went wrong. UNT just hired the HC from an ACC school and you cannot find anything but the negative1 point

He's not a journalist. The people you're criticizing are the people who latched on to the rumor, who also were not reporters. Everyone is basically criticizing a chocolate cake for making them fat right now.1 point

Face facts. 1. UTSA home games averaged 35,521 last year. With a 4-6 record they still drew 32,369 their last home game playing Minot State. They have HOME games lined up with Arizona, Arizona State, Virginia, Kansas State, Rice, Houston, Baylor, and Oklahoma State. The Alamodome holds 65,000. They have a huge city behind them with no pro team to contend with. We have little if any impact on their future. 2. Getting beat bad early in the season by LSU or Alabama takes away any enthusiasm about our program and hurts our recruiting & attendance. It does help LSU & Alabama recruit Texas talent. According to Rivals we signed 5 three star recruits this year while Tx St signed 11 three star recruits. Beating Tx St or UTSA would help us build a record and it might help our recruiting as we tend to go after the same type of players. 3. We need local rivals that will play home & home games. They will help to fill our stadium. From where I sat at the last home game, the stadium look nearly empty. How did it look from your seat? 4. We need to establish a winning tradition. It won't happen playing LSU, Alabama, or UT right now. Boise built a winning program first and then pointed at one or two tough games a year.1 point

I think Forrest has a better than 50% chance. As a matter of fact I would bet he gets the job.1 point
