I'm thinking Case Keenum... He's still got two years of eligibility left right?4 points

I love Tommy Amaker...but I don't know if he's a big program coach (failed experiment at Michigan) and he has a GREAT situation at Harvard...brings back damn near everyone from a ranked Ivy team and is welcoming a nice recruiting class. If I were him, I'd give a great deal of pause before taking a job in the SEC..especially one whose situation damn near mirrors what he walked into at Michigan (football school...relatively recent though short-lived basketball success). If this is legitimately the short list...man...I'm going to start readying my emotions and building up my bourbon collection.4 points

Budget and student body size Louisiana Tech official in interview. Off the Tech board. Please excuse the sloppy notes below. I tried to type an liste to JFord's interview at the same time. per JFord: Meeting went as well as expected. No surprises for MWC or CUSA, no disappointments either. Market or bust for the Alliance? JF: No one is indicating from Tech or media circles around CUSA that the conference expansion is only "media market" driven. FIU gets no coverage in Miami, North Texas gets more media coverage outside DFW than in DFW itself. Shocking that a team like FIU does not have all its football games on radio (i.e. network), they can not find a Miami radio station that will cover all 12 football games. JF: Budget and student body are only reasons UTSA, North Texas, and FIU are being considered. Ford doesn't believe CUSA/MWC is only going after TV markets only. What goes on during these visits? JF: lunch with President, BVDV at beginning; met with Dr. Reneau; tours of the facilities; presentation of Q4E progress and plan for future; talk specifics on TV contracts; Tech talks about how well they did on TV; officials back on the plane. Bradshaw may have been on the plane from Dallas to Ruston, but cannot be confirmed. Officials were out of Ruston by 4 pm. When Tech has been courting CUSA as long as it has, there is not much more for Alliance officials to find out. Ten years after the initial rejection by CUSA, LA Tech is in a much better position (facilities look much better). If worst case scenario occurs (no invite to CUSA) what happens? JF: Sun Belt. Staying in the WAC is not an option. It's either CUSA or Sun Belt. JF: A move to CUSA may not remain in the next two weeks. LA Tech is the last visit the CUSA officials will make. When expansion is going down, you want to be the last school they visit. Any other thing outside of market size that could be bad for Tech? JF: The budget, nowhere near as high as it should be compared to CUSA. Tech has proven that it can do more with less.3 points

Reporting something as the " latest RUMOR I'm hearing" is weak. The latest rumor I'm hearing is that Adam Sparks should do his job and make some calls to see if the rumor is true.3 points

Depends on who you're asking. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being UNT is in, I'd say that UNT has a damn good shot.3 points

Oh yeah, it's not like he's busy right now tracking down who the new women's basketball coach might be or anything like that...3 points

Constitution doesn't really come into play here at all. The Constitution's guarantee of free speech says nothing about stupidity. That's about the only thing the guy is guilty of here....stupid comment...very stupid, but the guy is known for that and the Marlins knew full well that they were getting a manager who runs his mouth. Every Time something happens these days people come out and want to fire someone...of course never them, but someone else. Private enterprises have far more latitude in these sort of things. Leave it up to the Marlins and their ticket buying fans to handle this...and they will. The free market tends to "vote" what they really want in these sort of things where it usually just boils down to someone getting their feelings hurt. Seems it is always someone who has no real skin in the game calling for someone else to be fired. If everyone was fired over every stupid thing they ever said or did in public lots of folks would be losing their jobs these days...even firefighters. On this one, I have to let the folks who really matter make the decision...the Marlins folks and their fans. Now, like others here...I doubt if I were a ML ball club that I would have this guy anywhere near my club...seems like a total idiot to me...but is being dumb a fireable offense in this case? Just my opinion.2 points

OOH! I like this game. Would you rather freeze to death in Antarctica, but live 10 years prior as a successful Ponzi schemer, immune to the law? OR Would you rather die of dehydration in the Sahara desert, but live 10 years prior as a successful pimp, immune to the law?2 points

I won't believe we are in the alliance until it is officially announced. Should we be left behind again and stuck in the Sun Belt it will be painful, no doubt. But one must feel for all the loyal fans at Idaho who love their school as much as we love UNT. http://magicvalley.com/sports/college/column-tough-call-awaits-u-of-i-athletics-future/article_0bcee4ee-7892-11e1-b01c-001871e3ce6c.html2 points

More fuel to the LSU fire....in one of the threads on their tigerdroppings board, it is mentioned that one of their private jets they use for recruiting purposes has been in Dallas since 6pm.2 points

"The agenda includes a meeting with local politicians from across N. Louisiana, Independence Bowl officials and Hall of Fame players Terry Bradshaw, Fred Dean and Karl Malone. Lunch will be in the president's office and a tour of university and athletic facilities follow." ______________________________ Hellsbells, dig up the casket and bring in Huey P. Long to this gathering! ....also the ghosts of Justin Wilson, Al Hirt, Pete Fountain, Tom Dempsey, Paul Dietzel, Billy Cannon...I'm talking the 'A" team here! Seriously, good luck Tech'sters . I fear multiple non-stop nervous break-downs over at BB&B if the Dawgs don't get in this conference. They would (in deed) have an instant rival with North Texas. Yada, yada, yada.....Once attended one of our games at Shrevesport's Fair Park Stadium, circa 197?, and if not for a last minute LTU offensive drive fumble at the Mean Green 2 yard line caused by UNT's Walter Chapman, Hayden Fry's Mean Green would have come home after that game in a very bad mood--as well as this (then) new alum. (Why in Lucifer of Hades Woeful Name isn't the late Walter Chapmon in the North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame? I know many with less talent who are and so do many of you). I cannot remember any of Fry's team ever losing to the Bulldogs; now for the next 6 or 7 UNT HFC's during our "trying to find our true identity" post future College Football Hall of Fame inductee Fry's departure from Denton, we began to lose more than we won against La Tech. (Wish we would have stuck with the identity we really started to have with Fry's tenure in Denton and maybe we would have avoided our multi-decade wandering in the NCAA wildnerness which included 12 years in 1-AA). It has been quite a journey for many of us Old Gun Alums but at last we seem to have found our map and directions again. I digress....(as usual). GMG!2 points

Won't be a buyout more than likely because I doubt very seriously they would hire Gus. They will probably go with an interim for a year before they hired Gus. No buyout of Petrino's contract as he was fired by just cause.2 points

I don't know how clearer anyone on this board can be: For there to be an offer from Kentucky or some other "better" school than LSU, there has to be an opening. Syracuse, Kentucky, Louisville, Duke, North Carolina, Michigan State, etc. already have coaches, and coaches that they are very content with. There's no possible combination of records Johnny Jones can get next year, short of a Final Four appearance and one of those schools winning a total of 5 games all year, that will make one of those teams ditch the guy they have and offer Johnny Jones a contract. It's just not happening. I see Johnny Jones being 1 of 2 places in the next 5 years regardless of his record. North Texas or Louisiana State.2 points
-
Precisely. I'm thinking JJ either has his dream job in Baton Rouge this year until he retires/gets fired, or he has his dream job in Denton, TX until he retires/gets fired. Either way, a huge career decision is in the making for our coach.2 points
-
A massive season next year and he will have his dream job at UNT, have a tremendous recruiting class the next year, be close to home, let his kids keep their established friendships, less pressure, increase in pay because of increase in attendance and be a legend instead of following in someone else's footsteps. Easy decision, especially when one considers whats going on in the world and that he may not have enough time to rebuild LSU. Why throw 10 years away? Nobrainer.2 points
-
Depends. Does he want to go home to LSU, or does he want to move up in the college basketball world? LSU is a massive rebuilding project. A basketball powerhouse opening. He makes us legitimate, he can get a job wherever he wants. Say he fails at LSU, his career is done.2 points
-
See, that's the thing. Maybe I'm in denial or delusional, but if Johnny is truly career oriented, a massive season at UNT next year would open up jobs that would crap all over the LSU one.2 points
