Why this woman couldn't have waited it out at Charlotte for her career opportunity is beyond me. Hopefully she'll make enough money to move her family closer. Good riddance! Signed Screwed and used again8 points

Or a coach that loses 7 of her last 9 games against Belt competition with the two victories coming against squads that combined to win just 2 conference games this season? I'm just sayin,,,,7 points

I don't care anymore. I just don't. We're obviously not the first choice of anyone. We are reaping the damn foolishness of dropping to I-AA...still. We are reaping the damn foolishness of hiring a high school football coach to take us from bad to worse...still. We are reaping the damn foolishness of waiting so long to upgrade facilities...still. And, we wait and we wait and we wait. The crazier people on here laughed at UTSA. Laughed that they hired Larry Coker. Laughed at Texas State. Laughed that they hired Dennis Franchione. We laugh and laugh and laugh, and yet, where are we? On the outside looking in...all the time...every time. Georgia State is in Atlanta. They've got Bill Curry leading them. Although we might not like to admit it, they could very well surpass us in the realignment game. So might UTSA. Little Boise State did. Start from scratch South Florida did as well. So, I say, "Welcome aboard, Georgia State." At least while we're being ignored and surpassed, we'll have more interesting cities to visit for away games. The only thing that will ever cure any of this is winning.6 points

$114,375 buyout? Sounds like pocket change considering the grief this will cause UNT.4 points

Aston looked to be a great one. But with only one season as a legacy here, the question will always be "what if" - even if she fails in Austin (which I don't anticipate). Moving from 5 to 15 wins is pretty spectacular and I think her biggest advocates are right to point at that and say things were on the right track. However, many of her biggest fans are also the most dismissive of Johnny Jones. His first year turnaround was 11 games (4 to 15). JJ then languished thru an injury plagued second year and several a few rebuilding seasons till his breakthru in the '06-07 campaign. So, I guess what I am really trying to say is Aston will always be like a Rorschach test. With only one (still technically losing) season to judge, all there is to look at is unfinished potential. She could have been great/good/fair/poor but all we have is a comet across the sky. Best of luck in Austin Coach Aston. Given how much I hate UT, I can't ever root for you though.4 points

if you go to the 16:40ish mark of this video http://www.ea.com/ncaa-football/1/playbook-sights-and-sounds they talk about the new scanning technology they used to basically make UNT and FAU have the most accurate representations in the game4 points

I never thought her heart was in it when she had her introductory press conference. How she recruited kids with a straight face, knowing she was a temp, is amazing to me. Now let's get someone who gives a damn about UNT, not just herself.4 points

You have to give Joe your Souvenier-cup-size coke first before you actually get the jersey, so that's an extra $6 in the coffers each week! Hello Baseball Stadium!4 points

Weird huh? Just imagine the beating RV would take were he to bring in a replacement coach who so limped to the finish line last season! He'd probably be accused of signing her while handing out resumes in a drunken haze at the Final 4?3 points

Why do you place any great significance on endowments which has next to nothing to do with athletics? Unless of course, the endowments are to the athletic department. The reason the Belt is considered the bottom of the heap is that it is largely a collection of fc move-ups and/or little known teams. Something that is continuing with the inclusion of Ga St. Resources are a key issue, but that has to do with athletic facilities and budgets, not a school's endowment. You do know that endowments are mostly restricted funds that are seldom spent but generate investment income that is primarily used for scholarships, faculty compensation and research.3 points

Could JJ coach 2 teams? If he doesn't accept that responsibility, then he should be fired.3 points

Did no one see my previous post? But I guess its hard to face the facts with numbers. Georgia St. was voted in because they have a good chunk of change to draw on, good market, good facilities, good name, etc. The same reason we built our facilities, to move up. Wake up people, THE REASON WHY THE SBC IS AT THE BOTTOM IS THE LACK OF MONEY/RESOURCES THE TEAMS HAVE! Look at those endowments. $389,000?? Seriously? If we can contribute with our funds and build up our program so can they. Only two programs have a higher endowment ,TWO. So how is it that we can be putting this team down already?3 points

Which would you rather have, a coach that loved UNT and finished middle of the conference pack every year, or a coach that was driven to be the best and won consecutive conference titles and tournaments? Funny thing about those driven to be the best at what they do. They are also driven to be the best at the highest level of competition. I would not want a coach who would prefer to stay at UNT over accepting the same posistion at UT right now. The best want to beat the best, as they should. Again, having coaches leave for better gigs helps this program. Plus, it's kinda nice to get rid of the most devisive coach in Mean Green history. Oops, I meant GoMeanGreen history. ;-)3 points

Every fan that buys a seat in the "wing zone" gets a chance to "catch" a autographed jersey from Mean Joe Greene. Now, it's not really a catch but a drawing held each home game after the 3rd quarter. The jumbo tron would show Mean Joe "throwing" a jersey toward the fans (toward the camera) and the lucky winner would be announced over the PA system. "Hey Mean Green fans...Catch." And then the winner's name would be called.3 points

Congrats to Coach Aston. All things aside, this is a great move for her and an opportunity that does not come along often. This is a move from a mid-major to a BCS/Major program. I wish her well. I wish she would stay because she did such a great job turning around the UNT WBB program. I hope she can do the same at UT...just not against UNT. I hope the UNT Athletic Department will find a coach that will continue the progress Aston started.2 points

Think Bill Curry is bitter about his Alabama days? You know, coaching for a school in a state next to Alabama, and only one player from Alabama on the roster: http://www.georgiastatesports.com/SportSelect.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=12700&SPID=5671&SPSID=53625 Well, Georgia State is in Atlanta, so...future Belt road trips to ATL. Sure, not as exciting as Monroe or Troy or Jonesboro, but...you take what you can get, I suppose.2 points

Look, its the wins and losses that count, can't argue that. Otherwise, why keep score. But, the injury to Jasmine Godbolt really affected her to the extent she was 60% over the last part of the season. It was painful to watch her play because she was obviously in pain. She was as important to this team as any of the big 3 were to the men and it would have been a different outcome had she stayed healthy. I mean did Tony not miss Chris? Just saying.2 points

I think that is dilemma we have: 1. We want someone with head coaching experience. We don't have the cache (like a Texas) to pull someone from a big time program to come here and coach. That either means getting a head coach from a smaller conference or someone in a lower division. Then of course there is getting an Associate Head Coach who used to be a head coach, but you have to realize they are not a head coach anymore for a reason. 2. We don't want an up and coming assistant. Kim Mulkey was an up and coming assistant and you see where she has taken Baylor in a few years. I think if we focus on programs that are consistently in the NCAA tournament, and teams in the Big 12 - then I think we can find a quality assistant that has the ties to the area that can really boost our program. Just my 2 cents!1 point

It sucks, but I suspect you'd do the exact same thing. I know I would. Not a lot of opportunities for women's basketball coaches to make big money. You take the chance when you can. And whether anyone on this board likes it or not, Texas is a big opportunity. One that 99% of the coaching population wouldn't turn down. I wish her all the best!1 point
