  1. A forensic voice expert said his analysis indicates that Trayvon Martin was crying for help, not George Zimmerman: http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2012-03-31/news/os-trayvon-martin-george-zimmerman-911-20120331_1_voice-identification-expert-reasonable-scientific-certainty "You can say with reasonable scientific certainty that it's not Zimmerman," said Tom Owen, chairman emeritus of the American Board of Recorded Evidence.

  2. Saw in the "North Texan" that Leroy has passed away. One of the best players, I have seen in a NT basketball uniform and the only one that I know of that actually had an NBA career. Played for NT during the MVC days and at 6'2 jumped center for the Green. Dunks were not allowed in those days, but he had one of the best verticals of any NT players I've seen. Played on a short team even for the time, on the same team as Hamilton and Whitaker who were the guards as a senior. All three I think are in the NT HOF. The fastest team I wager that NT has ever had.

  3. I don't blame her one bit. As Mulkey said, UT is a dream job for Aston and it is among a handful of jobs that you just don't pass up. I wish her the best of luck and thank her for getting the program back on track. RV hit a home run with Aston and it's time to hit another.

  4. RV has definitely had his share of successes, but he has also had plenty of failures like anyone in his position for a number of years. If outside pressure is that big a factor at NT, can you imagine what other AD's face at places that really do have numbers of big donors. Here the way I view it, if you make a decision based on outside pressure, than you damn well have to live with it. It is part of the job to handle outside influences. If the President did in fact want a woman or a minority or both as a basketball coach, that doesn't mean you make a bad hire. What is does mean, is that you find the best candidate with those qualities or you convince the President that you have much better choices that don't fit those specifications and that it would be foolish to limit the athletic program to satisfy some diversity quota.

  5. Too much for me ? No. Too much for the family man who is maybe struggling in these tough times ? Yes Part of the incentiive to buy season tickets is to get a lower price per game price. You can't tell me that UNT is going to come out and say single game tickets will be more than $24 per game for this FCS quality schedule. 120 just tells me that single game single tickets will be at or more than $24. That's too much for a casual fan who may want to come up and catch a game, thats just my 2cents. So I guess to answer the question is 120 for 5 games too much for Texas southern, south Alabama,etc... I'd say yes. I just can't see a family of 4 forking over $500 on tickets alone to see teams they have never heard of I'll buy season tickets pretty much whatever the price , but I think we will see a drop in season tickets sales this year. Hope I'm wrong Its in the best interest of this university to get the causal fan to become a loyal fan. You do that by getting them to buy season tickets. In the future id like to see the day where the casual fan can't even get a ticket into apogee because of all the season tickets already sold Maybe I think too big picture Im sure there are cheaper season package available , right ?

  7. I suppose that this is as good a place as any to say that my initial response a year ago to the possible hiring of Coach Mac was absolutely wrong. I perceived him as the second coming of Rod Rust, and that couldn't have been more inaccurate. If he's the second coming of any former coach at North Texas, it's Hayden Fry. There.

  8. I hate political discussions, but as someone who had to vote for this I'll point out it's like many things in politics. They get all wrapped up with other crap. If you voted against it, you were voting against many other worthwhile and needed things which you mentioned. SO to get those through we had to also pay for this obscene stadium. Too bad we couldn't vote on each and every line item individually.

  9. Yeah, this isn't great. As much as I like football, the focus here is wrong. Hard to believe adults would spend money on this kind of thing when there are other educational areas needing funding that would benefit the student body as a whole, not just those in athletics. Pretty sad.

  10. Anyone who is not going to bail on us after 1 year! I had been monitoring the progress of the co-head coach tandem of husband and wife Michael and Kenya Landers of Trinity Valley Community College. Unfortnately, they just resigned, within the week, to become assistants on the Ole Miss squad. TVCC just completed a 36-0 National Juco Championship to claim their 6th overall. Both are native Texans who recruit the country for the best talent. Kenya is a Duncanville, Texas native and played with Jalie Mitchell in high school. She went on to have a steller career at UT after initially signing with TCU. Hell, maybe it's not too late. the resignation is effective April 6th. Maybe they can bring some of that freshman talent they had at TVCC. http://www.cbs19.tv/story/17291381/kenya-and-michael-landers-leaving-trinity-valley-for-ole-miss http://www2.tvcc.edu/Lady-Cards-Basketball/article.aspx?articleid=528&zoneid=222&deptid=187 http://www2.tvcc.edu/Lady-Cards-Basketball/article.aspx?articleid=527&zoneid=222&deptid=187

  13. Family's don't shell out $500 bucks either, they buy the family pass for $400 bucks that comes with a pizza every game. Which brings me to a more important question, has any tried the pizza? I can't believe with as many uniform threads as we do, no one has taken the time to debate the merits of stadium food.

  16. Right, as long as the next one is somewhere around jackson square this weekend Also, according to Vitto Stephens wowed the selection committee with her presentation and lack of coaching experience. It's happened before and could always occure again. We hope it does not. I know it's a great excuse to let those who sat in that room off the hook, but there is no way Battaile acting alone made us hire Stephens. That is a dishonest excuse if I ever saw one and it's times to put that one to bed.

  18. What a great time it was saturday...way too many people to thank....it could not have been done without the help and support of a lot of people within the Athletic dept and outside the athletic dept...BUT, without our players...it just doesn't happen! How about those great Cheer Squad students? Really fun having them with us and they worked very hard to help make the game a success. Just the preliminary numbers are in, and I still have a good deal of "collecting" to do, but the preliminary results are showing at net proceeds from this game to the Cheer Squad of $2500.00! Better than last year, folks, and you know who you are who helped make this happen. Several folks yesterday volunteered to help with next year's event already, and several ides were discussed as to how to make the game even bigger and better for next year...so.....stayed tuned! Thanks to everyone who helped to make this year's event a success....you know who you are.... What a fun day that was...if you missed it, plan on not missing it next year...you will be glad you were part of the "action". Thanks all...on to the Flag football Game!

  19. I saw in the obit that Lee was a NCAA Div.II All American. If the Missouri Valley was division II, it was a hell of a div.II league with at least two teams in the top 20 in the nation. Obviously, someone did not do their homework for the obit. Lee was great and really could jump out of the gym. Obit also omitted the fact that he did some coaching at the Div.I level as an assistant coach for Missouri and St. Louis U., I think.

  20. 24 is a good price, no matter what the opponent. I sympathize with any alumn trying to get in to see their football game. I also understand you want to draw the casual family in for an experience. But where does the AD draw the line? I think UNT football should be taken seriously and priced above a night out bowling, or a local farm baseball game when they have 0.25 hot dogs.

  22. Are you really saying that $24 is too much for a ticket in a season ticket package? Really? What do you think tickets to college football games go for these days? By the way...I think UNTFan23 sits right about the 40 yard line in the lower bowl area...great seats! And, you believe that $120 for a 5-game package is too much? I think I am a bit stunned here! And, as another poster mentioned...casual fans do not buy season tickets.

  24. Sure, there are a lot of things I would do differently if I were AD. However, athletics has the distinction of being the only entity on campus that everyone on campus thinks they can do better than the AD. Some of those entities carry a big stick and stick their noses in places they do not belong. Believe me, I know first hand. The Dennis Parker hire is a good example.

  35. Yes, there are two different funds, and they can't mix. But Allen ISD and its residents have total control over their tax rates and priorities. FWIW, Allen laid off more than 80 teachers and support staff, as well as applying for a waiver so they can increase class sizes in K-4. AND, it's not like they didn't have an option to raise tax rates or issue a bond to keep from losing those jobs. That's why they just raised the tax rate. Otherwise, they were projected to have to lose another 80-100 jobs. So their priorities were still 1) Build football stadium 2) Protect the teachers and staff and quality of our education. Showing that they've JUST NOW decided to fix this only further illustrates that the priorities in Allen were out of whack. Those 80+ teachers and staff still had to find new jobs. Class size this year still sucked. They still wanted a shiny new stadium that won't pay for itself until most of us will be well in the ground first and foremost. Also, it's misleading to say it will allow them to hire ADDITIONAL teachers. It will allow them to re-hire approximately the number of staff they had to let go, and potentially unlock the salary freeze they put on, which still doesn't necessarily accommodate the need to increase the number of teachers and staff(as student population grows). IOW, they've now funded their standstill.

  39. Greatness...yep, Johnny and RV just sit around and do nothing for this program and University....too funny. It's amazing how some folks just think whatever good happens has nothing to do with RV and Company while all the so-called bad sits right on his desk. Watch...there will be some claiming that neither RV or JJ had anything...anything...to do with this great news for UNT and the BB program. This is really good news for UNT...and just one of several pieces of really good news flowing out of UNT and the Athletic Dept. lately...WOW...Thanks, really great to see this news!

  40. I never said that it should. Given all of that, do you think UNT would have been served by a rule that let Jackson fire her for no reason? I'd like to think there's a nice paper trail at UNT describing everything that went down when she was shown the door, and the Board of Regents and others can review it.

  41. Because the government employee is accountable to the public. I agree with you there are drawbacks to not letting people be fired at will. But in general, I'd like to know that when somebody is fired from a government job the decision has to be justified.

  42. Government agencies should be required to justify why they're firing people. We all wanted answers when President Bataille was dumped.

  43. Aston, Mac and JJ are the best recruiting coaches of the "Big 3" sports I think we've ever had at NT at the same time. Love what they are doing with their teams and very excited for the future. I think all three had underrated seasons as coaches this year. Underappreciated may be more appropriate. Mac took a team that had experienced nothing but losing and almost had us bowl eligible. Aston took a team that was in disarray and has them playing lights out for a number of games Ans exceeded anyone's expectations. JJ had a team full of newcomers/freshmen and lost two of his top producers and scorers at mid-season and regrouped and led the team to the conference tournament finals again. This could have been his best job coaching since coming here. Love what the future holds.

  44. May be on his coat, which, I ASSUME, was probably collected as evidence at the scene. Don't worry, ZImmerman's injuries will be detailed in the photographs taken by police, you know, from that non-investigation that was done, which will be of far greater quality than a grainy surveillance camera video.
