http://www.wnba.com/shock/Kathy_mcconnellmiller__assistant_coach_tulsa_shock.html http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/blog/8/entry-54-kathy-mcconnell-miller/ Come on, Rick; she's just up the road in Tulsa as an assistant now in the WNBA. She took a historically crappy Tulsa women's program to a couple of WNITs. She took Colorado to the WNIT while fighting among Sherri Coale and Kim Mulkey and the rest of the strong women's Big 12 basketball field. Stopping clowning around and interview this woman. She's good. Here she is in her current job of coaching freakishly big professional women's basketball players in the WNBA: Here she is during Colorado's WNIT run: She comes from a basketball family, with a brother who has been a college head coach, brothers who are high school basketball coaches, and a sister who is the head basketball coach a Duquesne: http://www.denverpost.com/ci_4736696 Come one, Rick...I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'...two former Big 12 coaches - Dan McCarney in football Kathy McConnell-Miller in women's basketball, yo:7 points

Um....i just kinda got hired at epsn radio in fayetteville ark.... becuase of my radio, tv, film degree from the wonderful university of north texas. a plus 1 for me? not doing much yet, just some board-oping for baseball games, but you gotta start at the bottom to make it to the top.6 points

Maybe she can do for UT what Helwig and Trilli did for us.5 points

Looking at that board makes me want to vomit. Looks like a lot of seasons with only 5 home games in our future.4 points

Can we find a way that this is a direct reflection on JJ? Surely he's to blame4 points

Easy reply: Someone tell me how you can be at UT and be out-recruited by Baylor.4 points

I hate political discussions, but as someone who had to vote for this I'll point out it's like many things in politics. They get all wrapped up with other crap. If you voted against it, you were voting against many other worthwhile and needed things which you mentioned. SO to get those through we had to also pay for this obscene stadium. Too bad we couldn't vote on each and every line item individually.3 points

Rick, could you please clairfy you comments regarding her treatment at North Texas? we paid $100,000 to buy her out of her existing contract and to my knowledge gave her what she needed to be successful. she will get about $1million annual raise at UT, is an excellent coach, and while i hate to see her go i wish her nothing but the best. Since they disnt ask permission , when we are talkin buyout RV better ask for both their men's & women's team to travel to Denton for a series3 points

The only thing I ever heard or personally witnessed was the athletic department bending over backwards to try to accomodate her - because they knew she was a quality coach and didn't want to lose her. If you have something to share I would certainly like to hear what you have to say.2 points

Posts like this make me want to put my head through the wall, as it reminds me of our arguments against the narrow-minded people who were against building Apogee. First, Allen ISD is an exemplary school district based on requirements by the Texas Education Agency. The high school is the second largest in the state with an exemplary rating. Second, the bond issue to build the stadium only after bond money had been spent to improve educational facilities at each and every campus within the district. Third, the bond issue included expanding the high school for a new fine arts center and career center. Fourth, the bond issue was approved by the voters of Allen ISD. If they are scratching their heads, they did not make an informed vote. Fifth, the state of Texas requires bond money to be spent on what the voters approved, in this case a stadium and expansion of the high school. Sixth, by state law and fiduciary responsibility to the district’s bond holders, the money must be spent as prescribed by the bond election. It has nothing to do with the state’s budget problems. Finally, the district has committed to reducing administrative staff before reducing classroom teachers. When facts are not required, it is much easier to make a point. Unfortunately, the point has little or no value. Allen ISD, just as all school districts in Texas, has an operating budget, funded from property taxes, that pays salaries, provides educational and support services, an allows the district to operate. This funding is set by the state and is the fund that is in danger of being drastically cut by the current session of the state legislature. The District also has a Capital Budget fund that is used for construction, land purchases, and items such as school busses. This money is generated by the sale of bonds which are voted for by the residents of Allen. Once approved by voters, bonds may only be sold by the district if certain state mandated financial conditions exist. It is against the law for the district to use operating funds for capital projects or capital funds for operating the district. It would be a violation of Texas law if the funds for the stadium were used to pay teacher salaries or fund educational services. To say that District officials are being dismissive, to question their decision to spend money on the stadium vs. teacher salaries, or to imply that their hands aren’t tied is just ignoring the facts and state law. The facts are that Allen residents voted and approved the sale of bonds to fund the football stadium, the district has met state mandated financial requirements to sell the bonds and the bonds are being financed without raising local property taxes. It is also a fact that stadium or not, the financial challenges faced by Allen and all school districts in Texas would not change. BTW, I live in McKinney and have no dog in this fight, but I think the facts are important.2 points

I guess the Athletic Department shouldn't open the Mean Green Room after half time of the women's game when there are double headers scheduled either.2 points

i think its a combo effect, i think she was upset if the fact that even after the hot start...we averaged about 100 people per women's game (blame this on who ever u like, im not going there) and the fact that this is the job she has always wanted....if someone offered you your dream job, with a raise in salary, how many would turn this down. It really sucks for us becuase i thought we would make some noise in the belt, but its understandable for her to leave. Just my 2 cents...2 points

The possibility of Aston being one and done at NT... I guess that is a testament to the job she did here. She turned the woman’s program around here and I am very thankful for that. But… “You can’t leave! All the plants will die.” (quote from the movie Stripes when Bill Murray’s girl friend is leaving)2 points

I know you have a thing against men coaching women's basketball. You were at the top of my list for the first to make a negative reply. I hear Gail Goestenkors could use a job. Even though she flamed out at UT, she built a power at Duke.2 points

I just want a guy back there that will catch the ball. Last year we probably lost 40 yards of field position per game because our guys weren't catching the ball in the air. That was driving me crazy every game.2 points

By the way, that helmet site has "concept helmets" that they've designed. Here's their concept for us: Hmmm...totally objective third party considers us UNT despite more than a decade of having script or stylized "North Texas" on the helmets. Oh, well.2 points

I'm with CBL regarding Geno. There is a certain sleeze factor to him. Then again, he's not even an option, thank goodness. I like CMJ's idea. Let's go after Coach Goestenkors.1 point

Could someone be on academic scholarship next season? Also, UALR's Chuck Guy is transferring to be closer to his daughter...he went to Eastern Hills H.S. in Ft. Worth, so I'd guess he lands at TCU or UTA. Raymone Andrews and J.J. Thomas both out at ULL...former UNO guard and UNT (or at least TTG and mine) want Carl Blair is leaving OU. Blair has one year of eligibility remaining...if in some way he could be eligible next season I would love for JJ to go after the 6'2" point guard.1 point

If I had to guess I'd say Robinson, but I still think Vito is mistaken.1 point

Wonder why Vito doesn't ask the question who is not returning. Probably wouldn't get an answer at least that he could quote, but it is an obvious inquiry.1 point

I don't mean this as a slam on Coach Dodge, but hindsight says he was more a product of SLC than SLC being a product of him. No doubt he had to be a good coach to collect the wins and titles he did while there. With that said they won before he was there and they have won after he left......1 point

I'm getting really tired of crappy early season scheduling. I don't think JJ and RV have the guts to play anybody worth a damn before conference play starts. Same ol Same ol.1 point

I don't think you can give credit to slacker RV and mediocre-at-best coach JJ for this brilliant move. Obviously Karen Aston pulled some strings to get us in this tourney.1 point

Yes. But, you have to understand...people who throw money away on expensive cable plans, cigarettes, beer, etc. on a regular basis don't want to pay out of pocket for small, routine medical expenses. So, again, we're back to the lazy wanting the prepared and productive to subsidize their slothfulness. Everything you do in life involves a certain amount of risk. If you choose to use your money on things that are largely unnecessary and don't plan ahead with your health and health insurance, that shouldn't be my problem. Oh...and, I'm not a millionaire either, Rick. So, throw me into the category of non-millionaires who takes care of his own health expenses. The bottom line is, what kind of society will we have: One which rewards responsibility or one that rewards laziness?1 point

I say this every year around this time, but I really miss the old days of GMG. Harry started up the "VIP" area to offer up some very insightful and in depth analysis as to what was going on in Spring Camp. It was worth every penny. Looking forward to reports by anyone and everyone who is able to make it over.1 point
