The point I am trying to make between driver liability insurance and healthcare insurance is that you are using the system. If you are going to drive then, you have to have at least liability insurance (to be legal) so if you are in an accident, you will not cause undue expenses on the system…including the other driver. If you are going to use the healthcare system but have no insurance you cause an undue expense on the system. Hospitals and ER doctors lose millions of dollars every year partly because they have to treat people without insurance and do not get paid. The doctors and hospitals can write off the debt on taxes, but then that puts the burden on the Federal and State governments. Driving is optional. That is foreseeable. You can refuse to own a car, refuse to drive anywhere. You do not run the risk of ever using the system. Health is not optional. There is always something that comes up. You can’t realistically expect to never use the healthcare system. Sickness happens. Accidents happen. Home builders accidently shoot nails in their heads. People trip over stairs and break a bone. People get the flu (or some other illness) and run the risk of dying without treatment. In some instances an employer or some other insurance will cover it. But the individual is responsible for their own healthcare and expenses. Without insurance, the individual causes a burden on the system.3 points

Auto insurance = only liability is mandated; mandated for the protection of third parties. The state could care less whether you buy coverage for your car. Also, if you do not drive a car, you 'll never be required to buy auto liability insurance. Just call the mandate what it is - socialism and be done with it. Why is that so hard? Just say you wish America was socialist. Look, we hear about people who have all of these problems with insurance companies, drug companies, hospitals, etc. And, we hear that we have to take care of them. Why? Why do people who can afford to pay their own health care without insurance have to be forced to participate? The state doesn't say to automobile owners, we are going to force your to buy Comprehensive and Collision coverage because if your car is totaled it might cause you hardship such as not being able to drive to work and make a living. So, for the good of society as a whole, you are now forced to buy Comprehensive, Collision, Uninsured Motorist/Underinsured Motorist (liability and physical damage), Towing and Labor, and Rental Car. It doesn't matter that you may not want to cover a car due to its age. It doesn't matter that you have enough money to buy another car without insurance proceeds from your totaled car. It doesn't matter that you realize how infrequently you'll use the Towing and Labor and Rental Car, if ever at all. None of that matters. You are now required to buy all of this auto insurance, in addition to the auto liability.2 points

That logo is still great. Do we have enough cash in our athletic department to do a "throwback" uniform game the way other programs do? I'd love to see the Mean Green play in Original Worm duds. Great idea for a homecoming? I'd say so. Anyone with insider knowledge of the athletic department finances know if we can swing this some sunny day?2 points

I guess we can keep this going forever. How many times do I have to said that the reason many thought FAU was a better candidate was facilities. I will make this as plain as I can for you seem to not easily grasp the concept. I like most everyone that posts on this site, have not taken tours of FAU and FIU athletic facilitates, and frankly have no desire to. FAU has a new football stadium, FIU does not, that is what drives the perception that FAU is ahead in facilities. I frankly don't care how big FIU weight room is. FIU may have superior facilites in every other facet of the athletic structure, but the football stadium is by far the most prominent. Something that NT has lived with for decades until last year, even though it's other facilities were for the vast majority of venues better than average for a non-AQ University. As for as athletic fees, I think your statement above is about the same as mine. Most athletic departments are supported by something other than donations, ticket revenues, advertising, conference distributions and game guarantees. Some get state funds, other rely on students or the very unidentifiable institutional transfers which in most cases are state funds and student fees. For my curiosity, I did look up defined athletic fees and found that you are correct; there are some much higher than FIU on a per student basis; although my guess as I read years ago that FIU may remain the highest in total dollars. You are also correct that FAU are higher at least in this report based on 2010-2011. On an annual basis FAU got 493.50 per student compared to FIU's 473.70. Other Belt schools listed in this report were ASU at 288.00, Middle Tennessee 350.00 and NT 167.50. For the record, there are several that report over a $1,000 per student per year. Obviously, at this point, FAU has announced that they are not a candidate for the Alliance., therefore I wonder why you care why some thought they were a better choice.2 points

"Obama still lying about mother's health insurance problem" http://www.commentarymagazine.com/2012/03/19/obama-nabbed-again-lying-about-mother-health-insurance-problem/ ".....Last summer, a brief stir was caused when a book published by New York Times reporter Janny Scott uncovered an uncomfortable fact about President Obama: He had been lying about his mother’s health insurance problems. During the 2008 campaign and throughout the subsequent debate over his signature health care legislation, the president used his mother’s experience as a cancer patient fighting to get coverage to pay for treatment for what her insurer said was a pre-existing condition as an emotional argument to sway skeptics. But as Scott discovered during the course of writing her biography of Anne Dunham, A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mother, it turned out that her correspondence showed that “the 1995 dispute concerned a Cigna disability insurance policy and that her actual health insurer had apparently reimbursed most of her medical expenses without argument....." I think a scheduling partnership similar to what the Pac-12 and Big Ten recently announced (NY Times article) would be in the best interest of both the MWC and C-USA. A full merger today could see no expansion for a 16-team conference while a "partnership" between the two could lead to both conferences expanding to 24 teams between 2 conferences, each with 6-team divisions. 8 openings would not only guarantee UNT receiving an invite to the MWC, but regional rivalries throughout the two conferences. Each team would play a 5-game round robin in their own division, 2 cross-division games, and 2 interconference games (one team from each division).1 point

I honestly think that this law should be struck down piecemeal - not in its entirety. There are several items in there that I approve of. I was surprised by how much the FSA limitation would affect me. It's very difficult to predict within the course of a year exactly how much you'll need to spend on the doctor. Some years it's obvious you may need to spend more (like saving up for lasik, or planning for a child), but most years it's a crap shoot at best. One of the things I found most helpful at the end of the year was using the remaining portion of my FSA to ensure I had a fully stocked, up-to-date medicine cabinet. This has come in handy many times - ensuring I have basic first aid items and frequently used medications. When the new restrictions went into effect, preventing us from using our remaining funds for OTC items, I've found myself much less willing to purchase these items. In my opinion, I think it's stupid to restrict OTC items if they're used. It's my money that I've already allocated to healthcare, and I should be able to distribute the money within that allocation in whatever way I find best benefits my health.1 point

I don't want to go ahead and do cartwheels ... Yet. There is still a lot of money on the table. Difference is leave now and you can be rich. Leave next year and you can be set for life Plus leaving this year and he takes the risk of potentially falling out of the 1st round and thus not guaranteeing himself any money at all. Anything can happen on draft day Like I said , Tony is smart. So I'm practicing my cartwheels1 point

You're the one judging Martin's girlfriend negatively because she hasn't talked to the media. She came forward after Martin's dad thought to check his phone records to see who he communicated with that night. The Sanford police, in their joke of an investigation, never checked them.1 point

He was 6-foot-2 and only 140 pounds. His nickname was Slim. The photo of him in the hoodie is most current. He was the kind of kid who played Little League baseball through his childhood, then when he was too old to play stuck around as a volunteer running the concession stand. He never had any trouble with the law and pulled his dad out of a fire when he was nine years old.1 point

I'll tell you what, just to clarify that I am not defending either party, I will post (against my better judgement) my theory of the events based on my experience. George Zimmerman, an aspiring police officer probably has watched countless hours of police TV shows in an attempt to gain insight to the job. He majors in criminal justice to help get himself hired. To further this effort, he starts a neighborhood watch as he feels this will give him "experience", and he will have a chance to interact with actual police officers and get to know them and get his "foot in the door". He further obtains his permit to carry a firearm, possibly for protection which he feels he will need, OR because he can't wait to be able to carry a firearm, or both. He begins patrolling the neighborhood in his spare time. A noble effort in itself, but highly unnecessary. As I have stated, for a gated neighborhood, a more useful act would have been to hire a uniformed security guard. They at least have a little traning, and have a visible presence. He sees a stranger, walking at night, wearing a hoodie. Trayvon Martin was walking (Ive read stories he was walking to a friend's house and to his father's house, so even that part of the story has inconsistencies), from a convience store. Zimmerman calls 911 to report this person. He believes Martin is suspicious, based on what he has seen on TV. He dials 911 to report Martin, and is told not to follow. Now comes the grey area. Martin sees Zimmerman. Whether or not he yells at Zimmerman asking why are you following me is debatable. He takes off running, believing that Zimmerman is a threat to his life. Zimmerman sees him take off, and mistakenly thinks Martin has committed a crime. Zimmerman believes it is his duty, which it is not, to chase someone who he thinks may have been comitting burglaries in the area. Now, possible scenario 1) Martin, being chased, fears for his life, and rightfully so as he has done nothing wrong. He stops and confronts Zimmerman, believing he has to fight for his life. Zimmerman, is now in fear for his life, thinking he is being attacked by a criminal, uses deadly force to save his own life. Possible scenario 2) Zimmerman loses sight of Martin. Zimmerman is returning to his car. Martin, seeing Zimmerman going bck to his car, thinks that Zimmerman is still looking for him. He attacks Zimmerman thinking that his life is still in danger. Zimmerman still thinking his life is in danger fires in self denfense. Now, please understand, if some of you can, that I am NOT defending Zimmerman. I am merely saying I see how both parties involved did what they did.1 point
