  1. Somehow wku gets by us after we have a 13 point lead on them and everyone wants to model them? They went to the sweet 16 with some terrific 3 pt shooting, but that was 4 years ago. The past for them doesn't mean anything to me. They are still in the belt and still had to get by us. I don't want to model them, I want to beat them. Our worst enemy when trying to "schedule up" is our own damn conference. To find winnable games in ooc we try to get tech (our worst loss this season for rpi) and lsu at home. We can't control how much better lsu got or how bad tech got. All we can do is beat them, and we didn't. If we had, then I could see complaining about the out of conference scheduling. We got into a tourney with loyola and Columbia. Played Texas, miss st, uta. All stout but we should be competitive and beat one of them if we are serious about improving SOS to include more teams like them. Nothing kills momentum and programs like losing. Against anyone. Sam Houston is normally better than they were this year and we struggled to beat them. Look at western. They lost to iupui. You think their fans were upset about having iupui on the schedule, or that they couldn't beat iupui? They are dancing with a bunch of freshmen, and it should have been us, almost was. With a bunch of freshmen and new comers. Having to play Jackson state, gambling, and st Gregory's didn't help, but what ultimately kept us from advancing where we are this year from where we were last year was losing to wku with an entirely different team than last year. It's not bad but it was a disappointment. And I don't want any 2 for 1s just to get big names in the pit. Because then you end up with a schedule like football has this year, when absolutely every commitment you have comes due in the same year. The best way to get good teams to have to come to the pit on a regular basis is to change conferences. God bless, I hope that happens, I can't take anymore of ulm. Probably close to 10% of our rpi is just because we had to play them twice.

  6. i think we need to get past "just happy to be in NCAA tourney"to "we need to get in higher than a 16 seed". someone else posted something to the effect that J.J.'s goal seems to be winning 20 games by loading up on non conference teams with low RPI's for 10 or more wins, go 9&7 in regulat season, and make a run in the Belt tourney.[correct me if i am wrong, but i think we have only won 1 Western Division Belt title during his tenure.]the problem with this is that even if we win the Belt tourney, our RPI is so low that we are a "play in" team fighting to be a 16 seed, or a 16 seed outright. the only way that i can see to improve our RPI is to make winning 20 games secondary by scheduling up, something J.J. seems reluctant to do.

  7. SMU did well in the CIT last year. Tells you all you need to know about the quality of this tournament. It did WONDERS for their program this year...they scored 60 once I think.

  10. Exactly. It's hard for me to imagine that what's good (and affordable) for ULL and Rice isn't good for North Texas.

  12. NT finished on fumes, not sure prolonging the season would be worth the effort. A foreign tour would be much more beneficial next year if all the academic casualties can participate.

  14. boys, this is the "way back" machine, but i went to Ft. Worth Paschal 59'thru 61'. WE had a running back, Joe Don Looney[and he was] that won a national juco championship at Tyler, was kicked out at both TCU and Texas before ending up at Oklahoma. he was finally kicked off the Sooner squad for beating up one of the coaches, but was the #1 draft choice of the Baltimore Colts, who traded him to Detroit after their training camp. he also played for Washington and i think New Orleans ,but wouldn't bet on it. a real head case, he was hollywood handsome, couldn't be out run or out fought. what a waste.

  15. Most of those arguments could be made about the New Orleans Bowl. I don't think anyone on this board would be in favor of turning down an invitation to it because the few benefits to the event out weight the negatives. I believe the same could be said of the CBI and CIT. Especially for a program that has very few postseason appearances.

  16. Hopefully someone. Then we could erroneously brag about JJ having "post-season" wins like SMU's coach...as if the CIT or CBI are anything close to the big dance or even NIT.

  19. I think North Texas is at a point where it would probably break even by hosting these CBI or CIT tournament games and could possibly even profit. And, if nothing else, the tournaments provide extra practice time and generate a little interest in the program. Does anybody believe that there wouldn't be interest if North Texas was set to host Rice as Louisiana is slated to do? North Texas has probably been extended invitations to both the CBI and the CIT. The CBI would give North Texas the opportunity to host local Big XII or SEC teams, and that's something that we don't get too often in the regular season.

  20. You are right that no one really cares about the CIT but you are misinformed about a couple of things. You do not have to pay to play in the CIT. You have to pay if you want to host a game somewhere in 30k-40k range. The visiting team gets all their expenses paid for. If you can profit off of playing a home game it obviously makes sense to pay for one. You get your team more experience which for a young team can obviously be beneficial.

  21. I hope no one. This is a tournament that you have to pay a large sum to participate in. This is a tournament that does nothing for the program, except deplete the budget. It gets NO publicity outside of the markets of the teams who are playing in the tournament. I would bet that you will not find anything more than a box score in the DMN. I would be shocked if any of the scores make ESPN or any of the other sports networks. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer again, but very few people care about the CIT.

  22. also i think one of only 6 players in NCAA history to have 4,000 plus yard rushing and 1,000 yards reciving...or something like that, dont remember the numbers but he was the six person EVER in the ncaa to do it.

  30. Here's a fact for you: The history of Gallup polling on marijuana legalization from 1969 to 2010: http://www.gallup.com/poll/150149/record-high-americans-favor-legalizing-marijuana.aspx 12 percent supported legalization in 1969. 50 percent supported legalization in 2010. The trend is obvious.

  34. It took political courage to order that mission. Americans blamed President Carter for the failed Iran hostage rescue mission, and they should credit Obama with the successful Bin Laden mission. No one is arguing that he's the only one who deserves credit. Many of Obama's top advisors were hedging their bets on whether to go in. Biden was against it. Obama took the chance, trusted the Navy SEALs and justice finally came to Bin Laden. Obama said during the presidential campaign that he'd make the hunt for Bin Laden a top priority. He did. Key provisions of health reform are enormously popular. Seventy one percent of Americans approve of the provision that stops insurers from barring people with pre-existing conditions, according to a January Harris Interactive poll. I don't expect you to credit Obama with the same accomplishments I do. From my perspective as a Democrat and someone who thought Bush dropped the ball on Iraq and Bin Laden, I think Obama's done a hell of a lot and deserves another term. None of the Republicans trying to replace him is offering a positive agenda for what they'd do about things like the health insurance crisis. All they offer is opposition to Obama. Who cares? The time to have that argument was four years ago. His important pre-presidential accomplishment was saving the country from President McCain.

  35. God I hate when "Socialism" is thrown into the conversation. If Obama is a Socialist, then Reagan was a Fascist. Of course, we both know that is ridiculous. Buzzwords are useless and presidents get way to much credit (or discredit) for what they actually do and the power they hold. I really think if we want to bash people it should be the "great" congressmen/women that do very little, unless it's election time.

  37. Yep, blame the people who are addicted to heroin, not just the casual user... Just reversing your argument, you know, because if one drug should be legal, they all should be legal, right? Crack, Heroin. Let's just hand it out like candy. Because that would make America great again!!!

  40. the jealousy around here never ceases to amaze...always worried about SMU and what they are or are not doing...well hey, while you guys are stuck in the suck-belt, they'll be in the Big East, and regardless of what happens to them in the Big East, their athletic program will be on a national level and will have the opportunity to do big things...and it's only a matter of time before basketball catches up to football when the move to the BE happens....u just stay down where u are...settle for mediocrity, sit behind your computer desks and bad mouth a program that could not care less about you. My advice to you would be to make friends with a pony to maybe land a nice job someday lol...don't be upset bc the university itself doesn't even have to pay their coaches...thats what a handful of successful alumni are for...and with that type of support-and a move to the big east..its only a matter of time before basketball catches up with football...u will never be on the level of SMU economically or athletically. Stop talking about them, be content and stop trying to bring them down to your level....bc we all know that can't possibly be done....go ahead and go press that little red dislike mark at the bottom, but the more those show--the more it proves that this whole statement really got to you. just take it for what it is, realize the reality of it, and go on down the road.
