For real. He's been there for what 6 years? Is that really enough time to get his players in there? In my opinion, no. I think he deserves at least another 4 years.2 points

I personally think Coach Doh is one of the greatest coaches of all time and if SMU were smart they would lock him down for at least another 10 years to be safe.2 points

Killed Bin Laden, ended the Iraq war, ousted Qaddafi, saved the auto industry, kept the country out of another Depression, passed Wall Street reform and provided millions of uninsured Americans with coverage. Other than that, nothing.2 points

The only thing I'm envy of is the fact that SMU has Coach Doh and we don't. That is what this whole thread is about right?1 point

I hope no one. This is a tournament that you have to pay a large sum to participate in. This is a tournament that does nothing for the program, except deplete the budget. It gets NO publicity outside of the markets of the teams who are playing in the tournament. I would bet that you will not find anything more than a box score in the DMN. I would be shocked if any of the scores make ESPN or any of the other sports networks. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer again, but very few people care about the CIT.1 point

Houston: You want to go north or south? Take I-45 East or west? I-10 Northeast/southwest? 59 Can't figure out where your going? I-610 Dallas/FW: Going north/south? Well, north/south towards FW or north towards Dallas? IDK, could be 35E or 35W Trying to get to the airport? That's somewhere north...121, 183, 114, they all take you there. Six Flags? Well, it's off of 360, 30, all of those things. The FW loop? Well, 820 is kind of a loop. 635 just ends in the middle of nowhere. Houston is a spoke system. The Dallas one makes 0% sense. I've lived here for a long time and still can't decipher 121, 183, 114 or 635 and what goes where.1 point

Found this on Bleacher Report, but it's not a (badly written) opinion piece. The NCAA is producing this hour long show as an inside look at the seeding process. http://bleacherreport.com/tb/bftP7?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=college-basketball1 point

Actually we've played far more games with UTEP in our history than Tech, Houston and Rice. Games vs. UTEP 21 Houston 13 Tech 8 Rice 31 point
-
Why have we not played UTEP the way we've played other Texas schools (Tech, Houston, Rice ) ? It's about 600 miles away but we've certainly traveled further. I'd like to get a home-and-home going with the Miners. There's also a cool historic hotel in El Paso I'd like to try out some day. GO MEAN GREEN1 point

Wait Cooley, how can you not be a Walton fan? He stepped up when called upon after the grades debacle. Hit a ton of big shots. The guy is a flat out gamer. Without him, we wouldn't have been playing in the championship game, that's for sure. He improved as the year went on, and stepped up in big moments. He was also great on help defense, as it seemed like he took 3 charges a game. I'm sure his minutes will go down with CJ and Jordan coming back, but I wouldn't just cut him out completely.1 point

This is the stuff voters care about. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0212/73408.html#ixzz1nlwKN38K And to the OP, no it is not racist. This society seems to forget the definition of racism, which is a belief in the inherent superiority or inferiority of a particlar race. Far too often we look at something that is "racial" and tag it as "racist."1 point

The same reason that there's the equivalent of the same for the other minority groups, and why there's a Black History month. Because most other organizations probably have a majority of caucasians, because the other 11 months of the year are often spent on history as told by and recorded by (you guessed it) caucasians. It's like "why do we have BET?" Well, because most other networks are dominated by caucasians. The population of the US may be dominated by the total population of minorities, but as far as representation on television, politics, coaching, and in business, the majority of that is still caucasian and there's still some advantage in that.1 point

Blowing him up with missiles would've provided us no proof he was really dead *and* killed a lot of civilians in a Pakistani city of 300,000 people. You hate it, and Fox News hates it, but polling shows Americans like a lot of the provisions and will be reluctant to let the Republicans ever take them away. The health care bill is full of Republican ideas. The individual mandate was proposed by the Heritage Foundation. The private insurance system failed us. Millions of Americans couldn't get insurance at any price. Something had to be done, and Obama was gutsy enough to spend his political capital on it. In 10 years it will be as popular as Medicaid.1 point

For as long as they continue to indulge in blatant disrespectful behavior towards a President, who's probably the smartest one we've had since Clinton or Thomas Jefferson, and his only sin is the color of his skin. African Americans for Obama is racist? I'm sorry but you're more reasonable than that.1 point

Careful. Sometimes I think some of our fans spend more time on the SMU board than on GMG.com. Padron would be a good get for our program at a position of severe need. Too bad he didn't Gilbert it up and already have his undergrad so he could be immediately eligible.1 point

June arrives in Dallas and promptly releases a number of players from the scholarship. It is announced June is going to Arizona State as their head coach. It is announced that June is not going to Arizona State, but is staying at SMU. A story is fabricated that June wanted to stay in Dallas to work on his inner-city ministry. (Google search for this ministry pulls up nothing) A player reports to the media that June was recruiting him to $MU and telling him that he would take him to Arizona State. $MU loses a number of recruits when his best recruiter, Klemm, leaves for UCLA. $MU picks up two committments from players that had given us their verbal, yet decommitted and went to $MU. Kyle Padron quits. Sounds like a program and a coach I want to commit 4/5 years of my life. Good luck Rice and Walling.1 point

A lot of you did not expect much this year, I did and was frankly disappointed particularly with the overall conference record. Yes academics and injuries were a major part of the problem but despite MTSU and Denver's record I didn't think the Belt was very strong. It was very balanced. If you grade the team on a curb allowing for all the missing players, I would give this season higher marks. However, it turned out to be a typical JJ season: wins over weak teams in the oc, about .500 in the conference, and a good run in the tournament. Overall based on what should have been at the first of the year, I will give the team a C. They played hard and did a good job at times compensating for player loses, but they were never consistent and in my opinion the coaching staff did not do a great job of benefiting from Mitchell talent. As far as the individual players. My grading system: C = average Belt rotation player Start with the seniors: Hogans - Injured all year and never really got into the flow. It is a shame because he could have been a difference maker if healthy. My rating a D. Edwards - Finally got some movement this year and probably lead the conference in fouls per minute. Never consistently effective at NT or in his career. Player you pulled for and had a couple of big games but was not a factor at the end of the year. My grade again a D. Good guy apparently, but I never understood his recruitment. Hall - Who would have though how important he would be for the team. JJ who never significantly changed his game plan despite being down to three ship guards, depended a lot on Hall and he usually delivered. Grade C, although he really had a good year under the circumstances. Juniors: Niko S. - Just about what I expected when he signed. Must be a questionable practice player because he seemed to have a very short leash with the coaching staff. I think I liked him more than the coaching staff. Grade D Walton - Really came on at end of year. I was disappointed early on but he got his shoot working and displayed good hustle. Grade B- Holmen - All Belt Tournament team, got that long ball working. I still think he has a way to go on defense and rebounding. Holmen always seems to have a streak of good games somewhere in the season. This year it was at the end. Had health issues most of the year. Based on entire year my grade is C but late play make him a big factor next year. Franklin - A tweener with a lot of heart, say to be team leader, really not big enough for inside or quick enough for outside but definitely can play. Grade C Patton - Never played and may never; but based on the game I saw him play against NT will be a big asset if he does come back. Technically a senior rs I guess but has a year left to play. Sophomores: A. Williams - Most consistent player on the team when based on both ends of the court. Saved the team when Jones determined ineligible. Should be sure starter for two more year. Grade B+ Freshman: Mitchell - Most natural talent of any NT player in memory. I would say he had to play out of position but I am not sure what his best position is. Many say 3 or wing, I like him at the 2 but he despite his jumping ability does not have a good inside game. I think he could turn Pro now and make a lot of money but he is still very raw and could definitely benefit NT and himself with at least another year. Grade A, not A+ because he can get much better. Norris - Not a particularly good year even for a freshman. Though he looked better at the first of the year. Did show some potential, needs more confidence. Grade D Robinson - Injured most of year, did show some outside shooting ability. Not high on my list for 6'10 players. Clearly not ready for a lot of minutes yet and frankly I was disappointed in his development. I think he lots of potential but at this point he has done nothing to distinguish himself from NT's other tall projects of the last decade. Grade D Jones - There are lot of posters from other teams claiming that their freshman would have been FOY if it were not for Mitchell. I think Jones could have been better than any of them. I think this guy could be a great player for NT if he gets his act in order. I would have rated Jones a B+ based on his play before disqualification. J. Williams - Another great freshman player who squandered his first year because of academics. Was really coming on at the time of his disqualification, would have rated him a B- based on first semester play. Just my impressions and something to debate.0 points

not to downplay his achievements... but what did he do? should we retire every players number that breaks an all-time record at UNT? does that mean we should go back and retire all of the numbers of players who have all-time records? like it was said above... you need to do something very special to be considered... doesn't even have to be something on the field-1 points

proper usage of paragraphs wasn't the point--the only point i was making was to move ON from SMU, lets not talk about who sounds more ignorant...the people always bad mouthing SMU, or someone simply pointing out the fact?... have a good day being green with envy.-1 points

the jealousy around here never ceases to amaze...always worried about SMU and what they are or are not doing...well hey, while you guys are stuck in the suck-belt, they'll be in the Big East, and regardless of what happens to them in the Big East, their athletic program will be on a national level and will have the opportunity to do big things...and it's only a matter of time before basketball catches up to football when the move to the BE happens....u just stay down where u are...settle for mediocrity, sit behind your computer desks and bad mouth a program that could not care less about you. My advice to you would be to make friends with a pony to maybe land a nice job someday lol...don't be upset bc the university itself doesn't even have to pay their coaches...thats what a handful of successful alumni are for...and with that type of support-and a move to the big east..its only a matter of time before basketball catches up with football...u will never be on the level of SMU economically or athletically. Stop talking about them, be content and stop trying to bring them down to your level....bc we all know that can't possibly be done....go ahead and go press that little red dislike mark at the bottom, but the more those show--the more it proves that this whole statement really got to you. just take it for what it is, realize the reality of it, and go on down the road.-6 points
