Don't want to get too wordy, but wanted to update you on the Jr. day. My son attended and we attended with him. We got to tour the facilities to include the locker rooms, meeting rooms, dorms, cafe, stadium (got to walk on the field) and the press box. We got to meet Coach McCarney, and the area recruiting coach, and the position coach. First of all, everyone should be very proud of the facilities. They are really fantastic and will go a long way to allowing Coach Mac to build the program. Second, the coaches are first class and they really believe in what they are doing. They are great salesman for the university and the football program and they are clearly all in building the program. Coach Mac, when he spoke, said that the days of people making fun of the program are over. This past year, the teams they played weren't laughing even though they didn't win every game. It was a great experience and I am hopeful my son gets a chance to play for the Mean Green.8 points

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere. Cool video of Walton's three and the team walking off the court. http://www.meangreensports.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?&db_oem_id=1800&id=852117&DB_MENU_ID&SPSID&SPID&DB_OEM_ID=18004 points

This reminds me about something that I've been thinking about for some time. Someone needs to sit down with these very loyal alums and (via video and/or audio recording) get a verbal history of North Texas sports. There are some very knowledgeable people out there. And as this thread reminds us, they aren't going to be with us for very much longer. We've had a book written (and updated) about the story of North Texas, but I've never seen one written about the history of North Texas sports. Assuming that anyone is interested in this, I will be glad to volunteer my time to help with this. As part of this project, there can be large segments covering the Green Brigade, the Talons, and the Green Jackets. Actually, there could be a whole separate project on the history of the Green Brigade. OR, people can continue to come to this venue/forum to post the latest penis, and other rude Junior High-like jokes that they just made up.4 points

I know the word is Benson is trying to get out of the contract ASAP, but if the tourney is still here next season, I encourage everyone who can to go. This is a great little town, with a nice historic core, and the area right around Summit has really rolled out the red carpet for the league. It's very cool to walk around and see all the different teams represented by people. And of course, the basketball and camaraderie is really great. Last night's game was one of the most intense I've ever seen. Almost as good was our group afterwards rehashing everything NT until after 4AM in the kitchen of the rental house. I feel like I've made friends for life with all the rest of the guys, most of whom I only really knew from this board. Anyway, with the semis tonight, and a potential final looming, I further encourage anyone who still can to come out this way.4 points

Since you have been nice enough to let us know about the offer, I'll be honest with you, Andrew will hate every school except North Texas.4 points

Do you all realize that Tony Mitchell blocked 3-4 shots, possibly in a row, in the last 1:30 minutes?4 points

Begs the question, is Aston free game to question her coaching prowess (unjustifiably) the way some constantly take digs at JJ (equally unfairly). Something about a goose and a gander.4 points

Our womens soccer team always seems to bring that intense energy especially against Big 12 foe Baylor who finished 3rd in the Big 12 last fall and is ranked top 25 in the latest poll with a RPI of #14 nationally. A great crowd was on hand to see NT Michelle Young score late in the game on a breakaway to tie the Baylor Bears 1-1. Can't wait to see how we match up against Texas A&M...Now please bring back the mens program so we can have two very successful soccer programs!!!3 points

I know there is alot of excitement around UNT right now. My son signed a month ago. He expects 9 - 10 wins. He took several of his jr class mates from Martin to the jr day this past Saturday. Said there was standing room only in the terrace club at Apogee.3 points

Not a country fan myself but I have heard of Reckless Kelly. I appreciate the investment in and initative that the AD is taking with this.3 points

he is just reporting a rumor, which at this point is all this is. my observation over the years is when it is a fact, then you can count on Vito to report it. personally i think Vito does a good job, but just an old man's opinion.3 points

His all time mark is 14-8, which is more than solid given the sudden death nature of tournament basketball. Anytime you can win over 60% of your games in such a scenario means you're doing something well. But let's examine the numbers since his breakthru in '07. Since his first title team, he is 13-3 in the SBC tournament. That is just ridiculous. Forget everyone else for a bit - WE are gonna be a dangerous out in Hot Springs.2 points

WKU and UNT were suppose to be two of the top schools in the belt with top 30 recruiting classes so it would be nice to see them meet up in the finals!2 points

I would much rather play WKU. I consider WKU and UNT the two premier basketball schools in the Belt. It would be nice to see them duke it out for a championship.2 points

Yesterday while buying a beer at the convention center court I talked to the lady serving beer. She said that she heard from her cousin who is a bathroom attendant at a Little Rock topless bar that an unknown Sunbelt representative said "North Texas won't be around much longer." I'm pumped2 points

Unless times have changed, there is no such thing as a Little Rock topless bar. Attended my cousin's bachelor party there year's ago and the girls danced in lingerie. Of course, when you're watching your sister/mom/cousin dance, they should be covered up.2 points

We need to schedule just one sporting event at a time so that Brett can cover all North Texas sports for both the Denton Record-Chronicle and the Dallas Morning News. Heaven forbid that Belo assign help for Vito on occasion.2 points

You soaked in the waters of Bathhouse Row for too long. We are as finished as that horse that finished last in the third race at Oaklawn yesterday. Only difference, we won't make good glue or product for Jack In The Box.2 points

This tweet was generated at 1pm today. Me thinks his "source" for this rumor is this very thread.2 points

There is no way we'd be able to bus students to the tournament site on the same day. That means we could lose several hundred potential attendees for games like the one that was played tonight.1 point

Yep, just send JJ back to Jonesboro, because the only way he should be welcome back in Denton is by pushing the bus back down I30.1 point

This young man will be highly sought after. I hope to see him in Denton for 4 or 5 years. He just abuses his opponent.1 point

The beach in Biloxi blows. The barrier islands prevent almost all wave action and its quite stagnant (if you've been on the beach in downtown Corpus Christi near the Lexington you know what I mean) and it will be a rare March you can do anything other than look at the water and the island because it will be too cold to get in the water. You will be hard pressed to find a better place to eat than in nearby Ocean Springs though. Restaurants there are top-notch. The casino we stayed in for my wife's conference I thought I was going to suffocate from the cigarette smoke before we got on the elevator to our room. There are a few of the nice old homes left but sadly there are a lot of foundations and steps with no house as well. I'd like to see the tournament rotate around rather than one place each year but Biloxi presents more travel issues. Biloxi is another hour further from MTSU and WKU than Hot Springs is. Really only handy to USA not too bad for ULL and Troy (3.5 hours and 4 hours respectively). When the Hot Springs extension was signed, the rumor was that Waters was retiring and they wanted the new commissioner to be able to come in and negotiate the next tournament deal without a contract expiring right on top of them.1 point
