Hi, Checkfacts, TodgeRodge, roddog5, GL2Greatness: Why do you keep coming up with new and different handles, on this and different forums? Your writing style and contempt for UNT will give you away every time. Guys, this person is not, as far as I know, a Texas State or UTSA alum or even a fan of those schools. It's the same guy that's got a serious hate-on for UNT and that vomits that hatred on various forums all over the net. I don't think he's ever provided an actual accounting for why he despises UNT so much, or what UNT ever did to him. Checkfacts (or whatever of your multiple identities is currently manifesting itself), We get that you think UNT is steaming pile of shit. You've been making that clear for years now. If you really want to make some kind of impact why don't you see if you can talk to UNT officials and get an audience to hear your complaints. This is a fan board for people who actually attended and care for our university. I don't get your psychlogical need to come over here and other places and constantly trash the school. It seriously just makes you look like a very troubled, unstable, and pathetic individual that doesn't have anything better to do other than mount a negative campaign against a university all over the Internet. It's sad, but I don't feel sorry for you. Now piss off.4 points

His all time mark is 14-8, which is more than solid given the sudden death nature of tournament basketball. Anytime you can win over 60% of your games in such a scenario means you're doing something well. But let's examine the numbers since his breakthru in '07. Since his first title team, he is 13-3 in the SBC tournament. That is just ridiculous. Forget everyone else for a bit - WE are gonna be a dangerous out in Hot Springs.3 points

If the Catholic Church runs side businesses, they should follow the same rules as every other business. There is no constitutional right in this country to use religion to exempt yourself from laws your religion does not like. In the Supreme Court case Employment Division v. Smith, the court ruled that religious liberty is not sufficient grounds to be exempt from laws. The court found that Oregon could deny unemployment benefits to people who were fired for consuming peyote as part of a religious tradition. Antonin Scalia wrote the decision for the majority. "To permit this would be to make the professed doctrines of religious belief superior to the law of the land, and in effect to permit every citizen to become a law unto himself," Scalia wrote.3 points

Frogs improve to 17-11 while knocking off a second ranked team this season. Probably at least NIT bound. A nice little season right before Big 12 membership. This will no doubt help recruiting for them and hurt us a bit. I don't buy that they will be a consistent bottom feeder in the Big 12.2 points

UTA will hurt UNT before TCU. Going dancing in another week, In a better perceived conference (than currently) and plays in the best arena in the Metroplex. Had close to 5k last night against Nichols St (I think). Opened up with about 7. We can continue to dismiss them all we want but they can recruit using their 30 point ass whipping against us while still on the stage. Our success has been on attracting local high major kids back to the area. OSU's Roger Dowell is a recent example of what the new arena will continue to do for them.2 points

Okay so i've decided to make the trip, any suggestions on places to stay? I'd even be up for finding a crash pad since I intend to maximize enjoyment of Tourney/time off work. Does anyone have a spot in a house/condo rental or spot at a hotel because of a last minute cancelation? I even have references for anyone who needs them2 points

Id like Memphis and Houston to come back. SMUt can go play in the Lingerie League2 points

God I hate when "Socialism" is thrown into the conversation. If Obama is a Socialist, then Reagan was a Fascist. Of course, we both know that is ridiculous. Buzzwords are useless and presidents get way to much credit (or discredit) for what they actually do and the power they hold. I really think if we want to bash people it should be the "great" congressmen/women that do very little, unless it's election time.2 points

Blowing him up with missiles would've provided us no proof he was really dead *and* killed a lot of civilians in a Pakistani city of 300,000 people. You hate it, and Fox News hates it, but polling shows Americans like a lot of the provisions and will be reluctant to let the Republicans ever take them away. The health care bill is full of Republican ideas. The individual mandate was proposed by the Heritage Foundation. The private insurance system failed us. Millions of Americans couldn't get insurance at any price. Something had to be done, and Obama was gutsy enough to spend his political capital on it. In 10 years it will be as popular as Medicaid.2 points

There are still several factors brewing that could change the final merger plans. Both San Diego and Boise may not be going to the Big East after all. Boise State doesn't want to move their other teams into a very weakened WAC. Also, the AQ bid may go south as there is more and more talk about a playoff. San Diego State is building a quality basketball program in the Mountain West that could be lost in the California conference where they would have to put their other sports. I don't know if that will change the number of teams in the merged conference or not but it could very well change who they are. If Boise and San Diego back out then East Carolina could be one who gets the call from the Big East. Listen to the interview with Bruce Marshall of goldsheet.com about the latest merger and playoff talk. http://www.minerrush.com/2012/2/23/2820423/mwc-cusa-merger-update1 point

It is a great place to watch a live game, but no place to watch a televised game. It definitely needs new lighting and a sound system for sure. I am happy we have not been playing a Raddy old stage for 20 years1 point

I guess it depends on if we still have willing donors for the stadium. A friend of a friend donated a million dollars to UTA and got his name engraved on the hardwood. I would love to see a new stadium across bonnie brae from the stadium. Now that would be a beautiful aerial view... A man can dream... A man can dream...1 point

I think it already did hurt us a lil. We lost out on Kyan Anderson because of their conference affiliation IMO. He sure would have helped this year, but typically we don't ever seem to go head go head with them on BB recruits.1 point
-
I don't know about them being good only hurting us. But they could compete and win against Texas Tech (already did this season), Oklahoma, Oklahoma State. They have a good coach, I think they are on the upward swing. What we need is an opportunity to play ranked opponents at home, and not the upper tier of them either. That is why it must be essential for us to get on board with this CUSA, MWC merger.1 point

I guarantee if you asked all the coaches who they do NOT want to face, UNT would be at the top of the list. TM could single handily win this tournament and opposing coaches would rather not have to face him. Unless FIU or Troy gets to the 2nd round, I don't think you can call any game a upset1 point

Again.....if thru all this latest episode of an NCAA Keystone re-alignment comedy we still somehow remain in the Sun Belt Conference, we will merely re-evaluate our goals and work to get back to being the North Texas that dominated the SBC and being its New Orleans Bowl representative in its first 4 years. Not being in this or any other alliance will not be the end of the world for the University of North Texas because we still have warp speed growth happening at both our school as well as the city, county and region of our school's location. I'm also sure our UNT leaders will be able to translate all this new growth into new fans in due time; we also have game-changing facilities with our new (track-less) football stadium that is strategically placed at the creme de la creme of all college football stadium locations; that is, between 2 Texas interstates, ie, a location that all but begs some of those 100,000 who drive by our Apogee Stadium on a daily basis and of which many of us could speculate that even a few of that group would be present Texas HS/Oklahoma HS football stars who could very well say: "Take that Bonnie Brae exit, Joe, and lets take an up close look at that stadium." Wouldn't it be easy to say that all the "Joe's" out there would I'm sure discover what many of us did when viewing the stadium from either Interstate and that is how that view (as impressive as it is) hardly does our stadium the justice that an up close and personal view of the stadium will do every time. It will still be (somewhat) fun and entertaining to be speculators and posters on sports message boards (which will never cease) with never-ending point/counter points on what school(s) will go (or stay) at whatever conference. One can speculate if in today's NCAA there will ever be any conference that will keep its same members for any length of time but that (among a million other subjects) is why sports & school message boards exists, right? If the Big East can't keep at least most of their membership in tow their commissioner needs to get him a bulletproof vest. If everyone tries to go back in place there won't be a place for everyone. The worst screwing would be to Rutgers, Connecticut, Louisville, South Florida, Cincinnati. It's been intimated that the Mountain West would take Boise State and San Diego State back with open arms. Okay, that's two less in the Big East with seemingly little harm. SMU, Houston, Memphis and UCF haven't officially left so I assume that they would just remain members. Louisville is rumored to become a Big 12 member. If that happens then there are only four to worry about because the Temple addition and the Navy promise are r4escinded. At this point there is a solution. Take the four and add them to the 12-member CUSA and forget the merger. I seem to recall that such a solution was offered by the alliance and turned down by the Big East. Would the Big East be willing to go back and divide the three conferences into say 12 teams each? It seems that whatever they do at this stage is going to be costly. There are ongoing TV negotiations, legal work to establish the new conference, and countless deals that will have to be retracted. Some, maybe all, who thought that they would be a part of changing conferences won't get that opportunity (except for the Sun Belt who likely will be expanding). Exit fees and entry fees are going away. There may not be any winners...only losers in this chaos.1 point

I want Houston SMU and Memphis gone because if SMU comes back we are toast. SMU does not control our destiny but the new mega league would only need one Metro presence. Dang I hope they stay away from our new opportunity. Boise and San Diego State are going to hate the new Big West and WAC for their bball teams. They are leaving a Mountain West that is number 5 in the country ahead of the ACC, has 3 ranked teams for the first time ever and is a league in which every team has a winning basketball record. I know football drives this bus, but when your hoops have and continue to blossom on the national stage it is something that is important to think about. The West loves basketball! GMG1 point

With the rumors of AQ status going away, if the new TV deal for this new conference is better than thought could the defectors all return home to CUSA and MWC? Boise State, San Diego State, Memphis, SMU, Houston could all return. Combine the 12 CUSA teams with seven returning MWC teams (TCU will not return) and you have nineteen spots filled - five openings if they still want 24 teams. I suppose if East Carolina really wants to go to the Big East they would now be readily accepted. UCF may also stay with the Big East. However, you have to expect that the same issues driving Boise State and San Diego State to question being in the Big East will also apply to SMU and Houston. Having SMU back in CUSA doesn't help us ... but we could still go west to the MWC half of the Alliance.1 point

My statements have nothing to do with comparing them to North Texas. I think UTSA is doing a fantastic job with what they have to work with. I simply don't think they will have the meteoric rise that USF has had. Stay on task please. I do think they will be able to have some success in 1A football though. That being said, if we do have to be tied to the hip with one of the twins, I would reather it be State because, even as touristy as it is, I dig that river. S.A.'s river is too much like Six Flags water. Ain't getting in that. Needless to say, I do hope we are able to be with the likes of UTEP and Tulsa.1 point

WOW! Let's recap .....and look at the facts. 1. Playing UTSA & TS would drag us down to their level. UTSA home games averaged 35,521 last year. With a 4-6 record they still drew 32,369 their last home game against something called Minot State. They have HOME games lined up with Arizona, Arizona State, Virginia, Kansas State, Rice, Houston, Baylor, and Oklahoma State. The Alamodome holds 65,000. 2. Playing them would let them compete with us for Texas recruits. According to Rivals we signed 5 three star recruits this year while TS signed 11 three star recruits. What could they have done if they had played us? 3. We don't need their help to fill our stadium. I watched Steve Ramsey play when we were NTSU. I also sat under the overhang with a few other people and looked at a nearly empty NEW stadium as we routed MT the last game of this past season. We don't have to go to Egypt to find De Nile. I hope we can get into the new USA/alliance conference. We really need it. It would be OK if some other Texas schools come along for the ride. But the truth is I would not be totally shocked if UTSA gets picked over us because of their potential and location.1 point

That's great. Their facilities are nice. But I don't care about how nice their facilties are! Our athletic dept's goal BETTER be this...and only this: We had better be looking into getting into the new CUSA/MWC conference and then we had better be looking at climbing to the top of that conference so when the BCS and NCAA does what they're probably going to do in a few years (re-classify "division I" football) we have a seat at the table. I don't see there being 120+ programs in 10 years. We had better be one of the top 65 programs in the nation in the next few years. I think we can get there. I think the administration has committed what they've committed to get us there. But having a goal of some kick ass road trips IS NOT going to move our program forward. Fun for some fans? Sure. But how does that MOVE OUR PROGRAM FORWARD. If we're left out of the new college football world then everyone will have plenty of time to take trips to San Antonio and San Marcos and Sam Houston State...then you're going to REALLY see an shiny new empty stadium. I think Our administration built what they built to GO FOR IT. Not have a cute little regional conference. Why do you think the stadium was built with plans to expand? I think our administration has been looking at TCU and South Florida for the past 10 years. THAT'S what we want. Yes, San Marcos is nice and TX State's stadium looks good. But who cares? seat at the big boy table > kick ass weekend1 point

US per capita debt now worse than Greece. http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/us-capita-government-debt-worse-greece/391576 ....."Using the most recent data available from the International Monetary Fund, the Senate Budget Committee found that U.S. federal government debt per capita is nearly $45,000. That is almost 15 percent higher than the per capita debt burden of Greece ($38,937). The Senate Budget Committee also notes that our debt per capita would rise to $75,000 by 2020 if Presdient Obama's budget became law. Earlier last month, the U.S. government's total out standing debt, $15,419,800,222,325, surpassed the nation's gross domestic product ($15,294,300,000,000)...." Rick1 point

Wow. I didn't know he was on Seal Team 6. My bad. Look, I give him credit for giving the order to execute that mission, but The context of my statement was in response to the crazy "he is one of the 3 smartest Presidents in history" post by SE. I dont think it took a brain surgeon to give that order. Were their huge political risks? Yes. Bit taking those risks would kinda go against the Pres. Obama as a brain surgeon theory. Health Care?? Not only I, but a majority of Americans disagree that this is any kind of accomplishment for President Obama. Keeping the country out of a depression??? You are joking, right?? If anything, his FDR esque policies prolonged a bad recession, one which we are still in 4 years later, by the by. I agree, be bailed out union jobs in Detroit, not allowing the natural course of business to take place (the smart and efficient survive, the weak and inefficient fail). So it appears you are celebrating the arrival of socialism? I noticed not one pre-presidential accomplishment was listed. Could we have a few of those (if you can find any)?1 point

agreed! plus i would add UTA and their new $79 million dollar basketball arena to offset UALR, giving us 12 football programs and 14 basketball. we would gain 3 Texas rivals, and certainly don't need a 3rd Lousiana program. let La. Tech play as an independent.1 point

Neither. The last thing we need is to be in the same conference as one of these schools. We don't need two more Texas universities to recruit against. If we are lucky they will get stuck in the dying WAC and be forced to drop back to 1-AA. If we get to join the Alliance then I guess it would be okay for them to be in the Sunbelt (but I'd rather they be completely gone). I have nothing against either school, but I don't see how having them around helps us.1 point

NAACP, racist? Absolutely not. And where did I mention NAACP. And you are correct. Unfortunately, many White Southerners did treat the blacks as you say. A very low point in American History. Did you see the movie, "Red Tails"? Very sad testimonial to how courageous black fighter pilots were treated during WWII. To point, wouldn't you say that things have gotten better for African Americans over the past few decades? A long way to go, for sure. But do we need a president calling out all African Americans to vote for him? Why not "all Americans", black, white, hispanic, etc.? For the record, as a very young teenager, I helped in Dad's hardware store after school and during the summer. Dad hired a young "negro" (yes, that's what we called blacks back in the '50's and '60's) to help around the store after school. After a while, his friends were amazed that dad allowed him to wait on customers and operate the cash register. We became best of friends, he went off to Prairie View to earn an engineering degree, and yours truly to North Texas State. He retired as the Texas Highway Dept District Manager For Jefferson County a few years ago. He was a very well respected person and by all accounts did a great job for the county. Last I saw of him was at my Dad's funeral two years ago. He still credits his personal success with the opportunity Dad gave him at the hardware store. Our whole family considers him a close friend and I know he feels the same way towards us. Sadly, for every good story there are many bad ones. Did this SE Texas family have maids to raise the kids back in the day? No. Did we have house help to clean and iron? Yes. That's just the way it was back then. I'm just wondering how long all white Americans are going to shoulder the past errors that were made? Will we ever get over racism? It's a two way street and our president is not doing his part with his own blatant racist behavior.1 point
