  1. God I hate when "Socialism" is thrown into the conversation. If Obama is a Socialist, then Reagan was a Fascist. Of course, we both know that is ridiculous. Buzzwords are useless and presidents get way to much credit (or discredit) for what they actually do and the power they hold. I really think if we want to bash people it should be the "great" congressmen/women that do very little, unless it's election time.

  2. WOW! Let's recap .....and look at the facts. 1. Playing UTSA & TS would drag us down to their level. UTSA home games averaged 35,521 last year. With a 4-6 record they still drew 32,369 their last home game against something called Minot State. They have HOME games lined up with Arizona, Arizona State, Virginia, Kansas State, Rice, Houston, Baylor, and Oklahoma State. The Alamodome holds 65,000. 2. Playing them would let them compete with us for Texas recruits. According to Rivals we signed 5 three star recruits this year while TS signed 11 three star recruits. What could they have done if they had played us? 3. We don't need their help to fill our stadium. I watched Steve Ramsey play when we were NTSU. I also sat under the overhang with a few other people and looked at a nearly empty NEW stadium as we routed MT the last game of this past season. We don't have to go to Egypt to find De Nile. I hope we can get into the new USA/alliance conference. We really need it. It would be OK if some other Texas schools come along for the ride. But the truth is I would not be totally shocked if UTSA gets picked over us because of their potential and location.

  4. Ultra left wing politics? Next to Howard Dean, he has to be the most rational thinking and intelligent man I've seen in politics since Bill Clinton. I'm sorry, but the lack of rational thought and civility on the part of the "other side of the aisle" in congress is what's tearing this country apart. The John Burchers have finally taken over the Republican party and Barry Goldwater is probably spinning in his grave right now. Did you know that back when Kennedy and the Democrats were planning their re-election campaign, they went to the Republicans (and Goldwater) and proposed that they have a series of debates around the country and that they TRAVEL TOGETHER ON THE SAME PLANE to the various stops for these debates. It didn't happen, but the Republicans at least seriously considered agreeing to this. Todays Republicans would sneer at such a proposal. For Gods sake, we have a Republican candidate talking about birth control in these terms....."a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be." . It's 2012 and this guy is talking like it's 1912 when it was against the law to even distribute literature on birth control. I watch the Republicans and their bat -hit crazy religious backers and this speech from one of my favorite movies keeps running through my head....especially the last 20 seconds of it.

  6. Either the coaches are getting soft or the team is really getting it. 5 Star performances are the norm on the Winter work out score cards. I am soo ready for Spring Football!

  7. "I'd take any of the other options Over OU. Hell, I’d even travel to Reno or Denton, TX to avoid another top-five team on the schedule. There’s already a high likelihood we struggle this year. Would hate to guarantee it by making a murders’ row OOC schedule." http://www.nunesmagician.com/2012/2/24/2820942/syracuse-2012-football-schedule-fsu-oklahoma-georgia-tech Okay. Have your AD call ours. Be neat to have Syracuse in the house.

  9. RV get on the phone RIGHT NOW and offer this deal. A 2 for 2...two football trips there and one football and basketball trip here. Hell, throw in another football trip there if they can make SMU basketball come take their ass whoopin at the pit.

  14. Good post. Let TSU-SM and UTSA spend time in the trenches like UNT has for umpteen years...and we're still there. Like someone said in an earlier post, it wouldn't be long before we'll be wanting SFA and Lamar. We have to move onward and upward, not down or sideways.

  15. The anus was on JJ and the rest of the team to find a formula that works enough to get some wins and they've done that. But no way in hell they're better without CJ and JW.

  16. Uh, not good enough. He needs to go high first round or wait.

  17. Better without guy who was putting up NT HOF numbers until he was ineligible and and a player with size and amazing athleticism? Hmmm, is the question even worth consideration?

  18. Yes. Embracing newbies to the scene simply because of proximity isn't a great idea at this point IMO. OOC fine, becoming joined at the hip, NO!

  19. Great. Make it the WACCY Southland. Don't worry, I'm sure some of our fans will want UTA in whatever conference we end up in to have a "metroplex rivalry."

  20. First, it's not just your posts I'm talking about. Being OK with staying in the worst conference in college football and then being ok with adding FCS teams (which will make sure you are perceived as the worst conference in college football) just for a close road game and some misconception that they will boost attendance or provide a rivalry should be completely unacceptable to fans of this program. Fans should expect inclusion into CUSA (afterall, we have done everything they asked us to do last time when we were 2nd choice) from OUR leaders. Like I said, this may be on the way to becoming a reality. But if it doesn't happen, serious questions need to be answered by our leaders. I guess what I am trying to say is that after all that has been invested in athletics, we can't afford, and don't deserve to be a bottom feeder anymore. If we do get stuck in the Belt, we need to take a leadership role in elevating that conference. Only established programs with history get admitted. Cherry pick from the WAC, if you like, but no 1or 2 year or provisional FBS programs.

  21. Wow. I didn't know he was on Seal Team 6. My bad. Look, I give him credit for giving the order to execute that mission, but The context of my statement was in response to the crazy "he is one of the 3 smartest Presidents in history" post by SE. I dont think it took a brain surgeon to give that order. Were their huge political risks? Yes. Bit taking those risks would kinda go against the Pres. Obama as a brain surgeon theory. Health Care?? Not only I, but a majority of Americans disagree that this is any kind of accomplishment for President Obama. Keeping the country out of a depression??? You are joking, right?? If anything, his FDR esque policies prolonged a bad recession, one which we are still in 4 years later, by the by. I agree, be bailed out union jobs in Detroit, not allowing the natural course of business to take place (the smart and efficient survive, the weak and inefficient fail). So it appears you are celebrating the arrival of socialism? I noticed not one pre-presidential accomplishment was listed. Could we have a few of those (if you can find any)?

  23. I see this so often and just don't agree. I may be proven wrong, but USF was in an different position from the outset. Their basketball was already in CUSA and had a decent following and they were able to recruit based on upcoming CUSA membership. UTSA has never had a sports following of any kind. Even now they are relying on the community to go to KFC to get tickets. Not sustainable in my opinion. If S.A. gets and stays behind the program, I will be surprised and incorrect on my assumption. By the way, I have no ill will toward UTSA, just don't think the USF comparison will prove valid.

  25. I know! And I don't remember ever seeing this scenario play out. BTW, what's with the Sunday game time? I don't see this listed on ESPN3, so this isn't about television opportunity. It must be due to a school's scheduling conflict?

  30. will take about 6 months according to reports. as far as me personally advocating leaving the Southland Conference,[which i did] has nothing to do with wanting to build intra state rivals.at that time it was either move up or drop the program, so we joined the Big West "on the cheap" with little if any increase in our athletic budget. to fund the program we began to play multiple "road kill" games annually.hopefully we will be invited to join the new MWC/CUSA conference and this conversation will just have been an excerise. for us to be all we can we must go to UNT games to watch the Eagles play, not who they play. big difference.

  31. Lots of good people over there at ualr. As frustrating as it was for us last year they are a well coached team and a good group of intelligent fans. Will neighbor is the most interesting player in the conference to me after tony Mitchell. I don't even think he is playing at 100% this season and he is killing people including us in the first game. We played him well this last game and I don't think it's a coincidence that we won because of it. On topic: both Jordan and Chris were turnover prone in their short stint with us. Uta was able to take full advantage with their athletes. Ull, fau and middle might have been nightmares. Do I think we are a better team without them? No, i think there would not have been so many close games. I think some of these close losses turn to close wins and some of the close wins grow in margin of victory. It would have just been more frustrating to watch, and maybe only because they were freshmen. They will be huge assets going forward.

  35. What do you mean?!?!? This has nothing to do with turning up our nose on anyone. I have nothing against UTSA or TxState. It has nothing, nothing, nothing, to do with them. All I care about it what is good for UNT. Having to compete against 2 more Texas schools for recruits and attention is NOT GOOD FOR UNT..period. It has nothing to do with vanity. It has nothing to do with how good our program is vs. theirs. I really am completed stunned with some of the folks on here. All that matters is building this program.

  36. I encourage everyone to click on the links in this thread or the photos of our Cheer Squad coach and members in the GMG.Com Gallery and read what our support means to them. I don't know if everyone is aware, but there are no scholarships available to UNT Cheer members other than those available to any other "regular" student enrolled at UNT. As you can see from some of their comments, a portion of the proceeds from our GMG.Com BB CLASSIC II will be used to help establish a Cheer Squad scholarship. I am proud to be part ...even a small part...of this effort, and I hope several others here who have not signed up to play or who have not considered donating to this worthwhile event will read these comments and think about possibly supporting UNT Cheer. Any amount would be greatly appreciated and certainly put to a very good use. Thanks for your help and support.

  37. i actually love Denver as a city... that place is awesome... that being said... i would say to play the backups... but they get in so much foul trouble, you might as well play the starters

  38. Again; If UNT focuses on building rivalries with local schools BECAUSE THE SCHOOLS WILL BRING MORE FANS TO APOGEE, then we are doing something very wrong. We need UNT fans to fill Apogee, not opposing fans. Ideally, the only opposing fans at Apogee would be sitting in sections 124 & 125. The rest of the stadium would be sold out and wearing Green. The correct thought process needs to be: "What schools will bring the most UNT fans out to watch the Mean Green play?" Now, answering that question is tough. Will more UNT fans show up for TX St. over Rice? Who knows?

  39. Killed Bin Laden, ended the Iraq war, ousted Qaddafi, saved the auto industry, kept the country out of another Depression, passed Wall Street reform and provided millions of uninsured Americans with coverage. Other than that, nothing.

  40. I'm sorry, but the color of his skin has less to do with it than you think. His ultra left wing politics and overall political agenda has torn this country apart. Like '91 asks, what has Obama done? At one time I was very hopeful that Colin Powell would run in the last election on the Republican ticket. Enter Obama and Powell jumps ship.

  42. Well, let them form a conference with the remains of the WAC after the Belt takes more established schools. I think we all know what the new comissioner is. Like I said, can't get out of here fast enough!!! Great, lets take in Sam Houston (whose team is better than either UTSA or TSU, and, hey, they have the HOUSTON market. It's even in their name!!), and Stephen F. Austin (what a great road trip!!). We could call it the Sunland Conference.

  43. And the argument would be that if you can't sell the improvements we've made in facilities, this media market, the improved and more competitively compensated coaching staff, the huge alumni base, a lot of alums in the huge market that you have to offer, then you just can't sell. And there should be consequences for that. Who knows, by May, we may all be happily humming our way to CUSA. If we are passed over, we deserve to know every reason why. I get the sense that many would accept getting passed over without any need for an explanation or any demand for consequences. The posts tend to support that feeling. That is a symptom of the football insecurity of which I speak. If you never expect to get any better, you won't. Set goals, work to achieve them, and don't accept excuses.

  44. NAACP, racist? Absolutely not. And where did I mention NAACP. And you are correct. Unfortunately, many White Southerners did treat the blacks as you say. A very low point in American History. Did you see the movie, "Red Tails"? Very sad testimonial to how courageous black fighter pilots were treated during WWII. To point, wouldn't you say that things have gotten better for African Americans over the past few decades? A long way to go, for sure. But do we need a president calling out all African Americans to vote for him? Why not "all Americans", black, white, hispanic, etc.? For the record, as a very young teenager, I helped in Dad's hardware store after school and during the summer. Dad hired a young "negro" (yes, that's what we called blacks back in the '50's and '60's) to help around the store after school. After a while, his friends were amazed that dad allowed him to wait on customers and operate the cash register. We became best of friends, he went off to Prairie View to earn an engineering degree, and yours truly to North Texas State. He retired as the Texas Highway Dept District Manager For Jefferson County a few years ago. He was a very well respected person and by all accounts did a great job for the county. Last I saw of him was at my Dad's funeral two years ago. He still credits his personal success with the opportunity Dad gave him at the hardware store. Our whole family considers him a close friend and I know he feels the same way towards us. Sadly, for every good story there are many bad ones. Did this SE Texas family have maids to raise the kids back in the day? No. Did we have house help to clean and iron? Yes. That's just the way it was back then. I'm just wondering how long all white Americans are going to shoulder the past errors that were made? Will we ever get over racism? It's a two way street and our president is not doing his part with his own blatant racist behavior.
