  4. I work at a business where a lot of community workers (I.e. teachers) come into. Today, two Denton Ryan teachers came in. one of which taught Scotty Young. The other knows him "well". Both said that he is leaning more on UNT than anywhere else to transfer to. they both said that "he wants to come back home." this is the third time I've heard that Scotty "wants to come back home." The first time was a year ago from his grandfather in the athletic office. this kid could be a game changer. let's cross our fingers that these teachers were right.

  7. So you're in favor of making alcohol illegal too? Sporting events put a lot of drunks back on the road after games. Should they stop selling beer at Cowboys games? I think I'll pass.

  12. I think he would be a great add, and provide solid competition for DT. I am not sure if he can overtake DT as a starter (if DT does well this year), but would be a solid backup and started for the year after DT graduates.

  15. One other non-related point to ponder...if the conference goes to 24 teams there is a strong possibility that we would be in the west.

  16. Whether you think he's coming back or not, there is a real possibility that this is Tony's last home game. I hope we pack the Pit. Attendance last night was pathetic.

  17. Listening to a few CUSA presidents and AD's or reading some of their quotes, I sense that there is a certain amount of intrigue with a 24 school Alliance from some of them. Excerpt From An ADLER Post On How It Could work... "...here's a thought for a 24 team conference divided into four 6 team quadrants. All the conference teams have only an 11 game set schedule which includes all five opponents in their quadrant. The twelfth week games would be semifinal game between winners of the eastern quadrants and a semifinal game between winners of the western quadrants. The winners of these two games would proceed to the conference championship game. These semifinals and championship game are designed to maximize the chances of getting a team into the BCS level bowls. The remaining 20 league members that didn't qualify for those semifinal games would have their twelfth game scheduled by seeding according to record (best teams would host worst teams). That would maximize the quantity of conference teams that would be bowl eligible. It's a system to get as many teams as possible into postseason play, and hopefully it will generate sufficient revenue to make bodybag games unnecessary. It's designed to get 14 of the 24 member schools into bowl games each year."

  18. ...was ugly and kind of awkward and gangly. In high school, she wasn't much hotter. She did get on the drill team. But, I mean, I went to a high school with an enrollment of over 3,000, so there were tons of girls on the drill team. A couple of years into college, an old high school friend asked if I'd heard about her. I said, no. He told me she had become a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader. So, we got tickets to a game, and sure enough, there she was in the Game Day program and on the field shaking the pom-poms and whatnot, and hotter than fish grease. Why is this relevant to UNT football? Well, I think our little UNT is like this girl. When we had Fouts and were I-AA, we were pretty much just another girl at school. Not real outstanding. Like the junior high version of the girl, nice, but not really catching anyone's attention. We got back into I-A and, after a few seasons, began to win some championships. Our profile was raised a little, but not to a huge degree. Like the girl joining the drill team in high school. Now, we've got Apogee, decent basketball, and some real coaches pretty much all the way around. I don't think it will be too long before we are surprising people like this gal did when we all discovered she was a DC cheerleader. So, kids and fans and TCU lurkers wondering where you're going to buy your next bag of weed now that your sources have been busted, don't despair: we will one day be hotter than fish grease. Then, we will align the conferences instead of them realigning us. Book it, Dan-o!

  19. Come on now, some of you guys are much too young to be so cynical. Hell, what other school's alums/fans would bitch about the prospects of having a 4 star Rivals QB prospect transfer in and bitch about how many freakin' fans they would bring because of it? I don't recall seeing any kind of formula in my 45 years of following NCAA football that says what kind of recruit or transfer will bring in X number of fans in the first place. FWIW, some make it in college football and some do not, but lets give all a chance to make it especially since we've had few 4 star transfers of late who've come to UNT; albeit we have 2 who just transferred in who will be elgible this Fall. And let's also hope we have a coach who can stay in Denton several years and be so good that he leaves for a Big 10 (or 12) job with more wins than losses. I think we have that man in Coach McCarney plus....... a Rivals 4 star QB transfer who might come home with a new lease on his football life and that will not be a bad beginning for what it seems some recent indicators say will be a new conference home for North Texas beginning in 2013---which just happens to be the football season that Scotty Young would be elgible if he doesn't get "cynical'ed out of town first by a few on a message board.

  20. It certainly did create interest, and although pretty much impossible to measure, I would imagine there were additional fans in the seats because of Riley. No doubt people of Southlake were talking about UNT football more while Riley was our QB than at any time before or since. But we are talking about a Denton school, and getting the people of Denton interested in UNT football. That could be huge for the long-term success of the program.

  21. Didn't we all expect Riley's local celebrity to bring fans to Denton? High School status is relevant for about a week. Winning matters.

  24. I actually read Bob's post a bit differently...with a sarcastic slant. Of course, by itself, attendance does (and should not) determine who has a chance to be considered as the best team in the nation. That just seems silly. However, something just as silly - membership in one of the select few conferences - does seem to determine who has a chance at the national championship. All 120 teams start each year undefeated, but only those lucky enough to be members of the "elite" conferences have been determined to be worthy of being considered for national championship status. Once in one of these conferences, you're already eliminated half of the competition. In reality, it's even a smaller select few in those conferences that have been preordained for greatness, but I digress. So, before even having a chance at a national championship, you first need to win the birth-right battle. In other words, no matter how good you are, you must first be in the right conference (see Boise St). Now these conferences will not give up or dilute their elite position just out of the goodness of their hearts. After all, there is prestige (and money!) at stake. To make a long story short, the first and apparently required step toward winning a championship is getting into one of the "selected" conferences (at least in today's world). In order to do that, you have to make yourself as attractive as possible to your potential suitors. Bob is simply laying out a recipe to do that. Keith

  25. There are basically 6 teams vying for 5 byes. MT is a lock and will be the number 1 seed unless they lose out and UALR wins out, not likely. That leaves 5 teams going for the four other byes. ULL, Denver FAU, UALR and NT with NT having by far the hardest remaining schedule. The good news is that NT is in control and if they can win out would be assured the third seed and an outside shoot for the second seed. The question than becomes what happened if NT goes 2-1, 1-2 and NT is likely sunk. NT is currently the fifth seed ahead of only FAU at 7-6. FAU plays at MT and at home against USA and a bad Troy team. Most likely they will go 2-1 and end up 9-7 which means that NT could lose a game and still be above FAU at 10-6. The problem is that if NT loses two games, FAU has the tie breaker and NT plays 4 games at Hot Springs. It is also not out of the question that FAU could beat a disinterested MTSU team. Denver and ULL are both a half game up on NT, with both having two games left with ULM and NT. A miracle would have to happen for either team to lose to ULM, therefore I assume that both win against ULM. If NT beats Denver, they would win the tie breaker. If NT loses to Denver and both finish at 10-6, DU would have the tie breaker if I read the tiebreaker rules correctly because they have a win over MTSU. If NT loses to ULL, ULL wins the tiebreaker as they have beaten NT twice. If NT wins, head to head is tied, and it would go to the second tie breaker which could go down to record against UALR which NT would lose unless they beat UALR. While it is possible to catch UALR with one more NT lost, it is highly unlikely. NT would have to beat UALR and they would have to lose both to Troy away or ASU at home. In summary, if NT loses two they have a slim hope of a bye. IF NT goes 2-1, odds are good they will get a bye. Win all three and they are assured a third seed. 28. I got to know her when we both first started college. I've looked back and regretted listening to my a-hole "friends" who talked about how homely she was, when I could have thrown them under the bus and kept having a good ole time with that fun loving gal. Of course I was a jerk and a moron for listening to those guys.

  32. What an analogy, it has been decades since I have viewed a woman wanting to be a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader as a favorable pursuit. I do think and hope that NT has finally got it together enough to move up the athletic food chain. There should be a limit on how long a program can remained mired in the bottom tier of fb divison football.

  33. Oklahoma's deal with UTEP is a 2 for 1, but so what? To get people in your stadium, spending money, and getting your school on a real regional or national telecast is gold. And, of course the OU tickets would be more expensive. Tickets are already priced in tiers anyway. All schools charge more for premium opponents. Do you think OU charges the same for their home ticket versus Oklahoma State as they do for Iowa State? No. We've got the stadium; go out and sell it. Big school are going on the road to far crappier stadiums than Apogee.

  34. No one's pretending it doesn't. But alcohol's effects are scientifically more pronounced. And it's legal. How would legalizing marijuana put more dangerous drivers on the road than legalizing alcohol did? You understand it's illegal to drink and drive, right? So I can only assume that, by this argument, you want to bring back prohibition, since it would take dangerous drivers off the road? Once again, I can only assume you want to bring back Prohibition. If not, you obviously ignore the importance of public safety and probably like it when some drunk dude in an SUV runs over a baby.

  35. Why are they a better fit? UNT, ULL, and ULM are all significantly closer to TS-SM and UTSA. For South Bama, Troy, and A-State it's pretty much a wash either way. The F_Us are quite a bit closer, but I don't see the fit. No one from those schools is driving to Boone, NC, and it's a whole lot cheaper and easier to fly to San Antone. The only schools Appy State is clearly a "better fit" for are WKY and MTSU. That said, I'm not that into taking any 1-AA school. If I had to choose one, it would be TS-SM.

  36. Cause then Emmitt could snort Coke off-duty, right? How cool would it be to give cops the green light to do as much dope as they wanted? But not just Cops, doctors, also. I mean, I would have loved for my doctor to have been tweaking when he cut on my knee. Ya, ya, I know. "how do you know they aren't doing it now?" Well, if they do they face never practicing their job again AND arrest. Or we could just continue on the path toward less than mediocracy

  40. My point was he has always been lucky to be on a good team. He is not a go to guy. next year with Jones, Williams, Alzee (Hopefully Mitchel) he will be much better. He is a good player but not a star player. I love his intensity though. Every player on our team needs his mindset!
