"There is a sense out there that UNT has nothing to gain and a lot to lose by publically campaigning right now to get out of a league it is comfortable in. What if UNT comes out and says, "We want in the Allicance" and then gets passed over? There are a few UNT fans who might jump off the press box at Apogee Stadium." PEOPLE, PEOPLE, PEOPLE. How many times do I have to say this. WE ARE NEVER GOING TO MOVE FORWARD AND UPWARD UNTIL WE COMPLETELY CHANGE OUR CULTURE AT NORTH TEXAS. For years, people have blamed our poor attendance on our crappy record and crappy staduim. Well, we set a conference winning record back in the 01 to 04 season, went to four bowl games and.....guess what? We still had attendance problems. Well, after that everyone talked about the crappy facilities. Well, we now have a state of the art staduim and IT DIDN'T INSTANTLY CURE OUR ATTENDANCE PROBLEMS. Being in CUSA (or whatever it becomes know as) IS NOT GOING TO INSTANTLY CURE OUR ATTENDANCE PROBLEMS. WE HAVE TO CHANGE OUR CULTURE. GEEZZ LOUISE PEOPLE....4 points

FIU's facilities are TERRIBLE. If this happens, there better be a damn good explanation from our leaders. we should be upset with our leaders. There is no good explanation.3 points

I heard RV was in talks with the Awesome Conference. It would put UNT in the same conference with the following: Sexual Intercourse 80"+ HD TVs Shiner Bock Leather Recliners BBQ Ribs '54 Mercedes Gullwing 10 Billion dollars The conference has been looking for its 8th member since dinosaurs were terminated due to APR violations. In addition to UNT, they're currently considering Chuck Norris, The Great Wall of China and Seal Team 6. I think UNT has the upper hand.3 points

Great news after some very bad news. Will keep Coach Mac in my thoughts and prayers.....here's praying that, if true, it was a very mild stroke...a little warning sign to take better care perghaps. Thoughts and prayers go out to Coach Mac and his family.....Get well quickly, Coach. Your health is the very most important thing...think of nothing more right now....2 points

I guess being quiet is a good thing since this could very well be very embarrassing for the AD and University if with all UNT has to offer right now, without discussing potential, UNT is not considered for the alliance or a spot in either the MWC or CUSA if the presidents choose not to merge. Time will tell.2 points

I'm pretty much resigned to the idea that FIU probably does get the nod simply to appease ECU/Marshall. This will absolutely disgust me, but at least the Belt will be rid of maybe the worst named university in the nation. Ideally, the Big East would just friggin invite ECU. What does the Big East have against them?? Their football attendance, alone, should make this a no-brainer. I don't get it. With ECU out of CUSA, they could finally shift their footprint back west, inviting UNT & La Tech/UTSA/TSU. The Belt would then be able to continue it's shift eastward. Nearly everyone involved would be happy. We don't really belong in the Belt, geographically and ECU no longer fits in CUSA. Either way, I'm prepared for the worst while hoping for the best. So, to answer the question, nothing changes for me in terms of supporting UNT...but another little piece of my hope in mankind's ability to make sound, logical decisions dies if we are left out.2 points

There is an overwhelming support amoung WKU fans for Ray Harper to be named head coach. I have followed Topper basketball for +45 years and have never seen this much support for an individual for this position. What you may not know is that Coach Harper is from this area of KY and in fact received his Masters degree from WKU. He coached at Kentucky Wesleyan in Owensboro, Ky and won two NCAA Division 2 national championships while he was there. In addition, his teams were in the final four several other times. He was named Division 2 "Coach of the Year" I believe twice. He also coached at Oklahoma City and won either one or two NAIA National Championships. Since being named interim Head Coach our style of play has completely changed. We now have more of a running offense and more agressive defence. For all indications the players love playing for Coach Harper. Coach McDonalds last home game attendance was around 1800. The last home game we had last week there was +6400. Remember, we have three players out for the year with injuries, including two who have started. We all realize that a turn around will not happen over night but may take 2-3 years. At our last home game a local business had from what I was told about a 1,000 Harper heads printed and handed out to fans. Each game when pregame introductions are made, Coach Harper receives the biggest cheer. Some of our former haed coaches are also publicly endorsing Harper for the job. In my opinion, it is to the point that if he is not named head coach there may be more dissatisfaction with the powers that be than there was for not firing McDonald sooner. On a different subject, I attended the SBC basketball tournament the last time that it was at North Texas. My family had a great time and was impressed with your campus and the hospitality of everyone from North Texas!2 points

I don't mind the smug ramblings of smu fans. As long as they believe they are lightyears ahead of North Texas, we can quietly build our program. Jones has tried to leave the ponies each of the last two years, and that won't help them in the long term. By the time we start our series, these same smug smu fans will realize they have a fight on their hand, and be very humbled watching their Big East smu program getting slapped around by UNT. UNT is not a school for kids that didn't get into Texas or Tech. I got accepted to Texas. I had the opportunity to attend Rice. If I wanted, I could have gone to smu, and they would have given me a free ride too. I chose to pass on those schools, and attend North Texas. None of those schools could match the education I received at North Texas. I love North Texas, and I wear my Mean Green shirts and hats with pride.2 points

Well, I seem to recall a guy on gameday with an SMU sign begging for BCS big 6 admittance. Got a lot of press coverage. The meetings are in Dallas today. A whisper to a couple of well placed alums may have gotten some UNT fans down to Dallas with their own signs. EDIT: Signs that may have even appeared on ESPN tonight along with the conference merger announcement. But that isn't what we do around here. You are mainly right. Without direction from the AD and President, there is very little we, as Alums and fans, can do. But, with direction and a PR campaign, there is a lot we can help accomplish. We haven't been asked. I hope this is the right path, because without a change in conferences, this program may die on the vine (think FCS).1 point

Uh, they already are, and they have for years and years and years and years. The problem we face is a perception problem nationally. The regular college fan/booster thinks small time consistent loser when they think UNT (again, this is other fans/boosters, not me). I think a public campaign would dispell such rumors and could point toward what has been accomplished facility wise, the amount of alum in the DFW area, and the potential of this program. So we openly campaign and don't get in. What is the harm? The worst conference in college footbal is mad at us? So be it. Alumni are disappointed? Well, we have quite a tradition of that around these parts. There is a reason so many people still call us NTSU. It's because we continually fail to do anything about it. Come on, RV and Dr. Rawlins, help US help YOU.1 point

McCarney appears to be in great shape. Wasn't he walking or running up the Wing Zone each day during fall camp? Then again you just never know. Despite being perfectly conditioned, many marathon runners end up having health issues.1 point

We're not included in any mergers of conferences. And, our excellent new coach revealed a major eye problem during the season, and now he's had a stroke. Sometimes, you just have to shake your head at the things that go on around us. Just when things seem to be looking up, this kind of day occurs.1 point

Personally, I'd rather have Henry Rollins for these negotiations. It would be hard to have him stay mum about as many things as our leaders stay mum about.1 point

If the rumors are true I just don't see how FIU is more appealing and would be chosen over us. That is just weird.1 point

The new "national conference" will have 18 to 24 teams. If they stay at 18 then we're in trouble. If they expand to 20 it's hard to see us not getting in. We just need patience ... we should have plenty of experience with that.1 point

Why not? USU has a great basketball program and their football program is ok. We have a history with NMSU and it would be an old mate that would rekindle. This is also assuming we luck out and are forced to be in the belt.1 point

I'd be doing exactly as I am doing today...supporting the Mean Green as best I can. My support for UNT and the Mean green does not hinge on conference affiliation in any way whatsoever. never has...never will.1 point
