Emmitt probably has a better story, but one time I had a class with this really hot girl and I talked to her a few times. I asked her to homecoming and she also had offers from some super popular guys that were way cooler than me. Eventually she went with a guy who wasn't as popular, but he's a real good guy. I really hoped for a while she might go with me though.2 points

the 'rodrod5' douche is particularly buffoonish. His quote "I just happen to be someone that calls out idiots when I see them" simply means standing in front of a mirror must be one unpleasant experience.1 point

If this has already been decided then someone should inform the sixteen college presidents that are coming to Los Colinas this weekend to save their money. Not that it can't happen but why is it the member schools don't know about it? Would it be better for us? If we are excluded from the merged conference then that would be an easy answer. But, if we are included, that would mean that the expected revenue would more than exceed the associated costs and the prestige would help recruiting. There is also the matter of how it is to be structured. If only football (and possibly basketball) will have interdivisional play the travel costs wouldn't be that bad. It could almost be like having separate conferences. Although both conferences have been stripped of their best teams, the opportunity for more 'Boise types' to emerge will happen.1 point

Those guys are crazy if they think they are going to make more money in CUSA than the teams in the Big East.1 point

Can't argue with the fact that Benson improved the WAC over the past 15 years.1 point

Don't like the smell of this at all. My fear is a merger with the WAC orchestrated by KB. Guess which side we fall on. Yep, the west. This means hello watered down Big West division. Moscow, hide your hotel towels. I really hope that I am wrong though.1 point

Las Vegas is used to big events at the Grand Garden Arena and Mandalay Bay, but today it is about the Thomas and Mack. One of the most anticipated heavyweight bouts takes place between UNLV and San Diego State. To see a future conference mate in action check out the NBC Sports Network at 3pm Dallas time. The Rebels lead in bball attendance on the West Coast and the sold out arena will be INSANE!!!!! Tailgate starts at 10:00 AM for 1:00 PM tipoff. Nothing would be finer than to see the Mean Green Nation invade Sin City on a regular basis. GMG1 point

I can't understand the emphasis on recent football success. How short sighted can one be? Because a team has been good for 2 years they want to invite them to their conference permanently? What kind of logic is that? Have they forgotten they were one of the worst teams in college football for years prior to 2010? They are terrible at basketball. Their facilities are not good. They have no fan base whatsoever. It just makes no sense to me.1 point

Are you talking about this huge BB crowd last light? And CUSA is big on basketball. Say goodbye to Memphis and replace them with FIU.1 point

If our votes could get him here I'm sure that it would be near unanimous. He could draw some Dentonites and Denton students to see perhaps their best quarterback ever. Sounds like win on our side; I just hope that he feels like it a win for him as well.1 point

Wished we could post a tag to this on the other boards because I don't think enough Mean Green fans will ever become aware of this, and this is really something to be proud of. Rick1 point

Weird. Does Baylor approve of this? I mean, a school leaving a conference and it's natural, geographic rivals? Shouldn't Ken Starr be helping the other Big East schools prepare individual lawsuits against WVU? Hypocrites.1 point

I just want to shed some light on something rarely discussed about President Reagan’s 2 terms or any President for that matter. The single most powerful governmental force affecting the economy is the Federal Reserve. This was especially true under Reagan. During the entire decade of the 70’s inflation was giving Americans a beating and the fed funds rate was on a consistent trajectory higher. Not something any President wants to see during their term, especially their first. Higher interest rates increase savings and an upward trajectory often reduces loan volume and loan amount. The fed was hard at work reducing the money supply already and when Carter appointed Volcker in 79' to the Fed it became down right draconian. For instance when Carter left office both inflation and the feds fund rate were over 11% and rising. Something most on this board could not fathom. In 1980 inflation spiked to 14%……..holly crap 14%!!!!!! Volcker took the strongest stance ever seen by the Fed and raised the Fed Funds rate to 20%……..20%!!!!!!!! Unemployment sky-rocketed to well over 10% and Volcker was one of the most hated men in the Country. Maybe even less popular than a very unpopular President Reagan. 1980 − 1982 were pretty tough times in this country because of this. I remember my parents bought a house in the early 80’s. What was their mortgage rate with good credit? 15%!! I currently pay 4% The story has a happy ending though, especially for Republicans. Volcker crushed inflation (with a little help from Reagan cozying up with the Middle East) and the Fed Funds rate was lowered consistently through most the 80’s starting around the end of 1981. This brought unemployment down with it and a strengthening economy followed. Factor in that Reagan lowered taxes to the lowest levels in the post WWII era and massively increased defense spending through increased deficits and the economy was humming right along. Soooo….. With unemployment on a slow and steady path downward starting around 1982, folks happy with their recent tax breaks, and high savings rates for the previous 10 years, Americans were finally feeling pretty good. Reagan won in a landslide in 84’ with an unemployment rate higher than when he took office but on the decline. Some here may want to argue everything that I am missing about Reagan’s first term. I don’t care. I just wanted to say, before you get all riled up about what a President did or did not do for the economy. It is the men and women of the Fed that are the true puppet masters.1 point

This thread has gone on for 30 pages. 30 PAGES! You boneheads are talking like you could actually trust these guys (Republican candidates or Pres. Obama). You can't trust any of these guys! They say what they think you want to hear if you're in their audience. Drop Pres. Obama into a room full of Tea Party folks, and he's going to try and sound moderate. Put pres. Obama in a room full of Occupiers, and he's going to sound very left. The same patronization would spew from any of the Republican candidates. None of these men are running for President for the betterment of our country. They're not really looking out for you and me. None of us are at the top of their priority list. They are looking out for themselves and their massive egos.1 point

La.Tech? The second most famous school in Lincoln Parish? The one just now expanding facilities up to Sun Belt standards? The one with the recruiting class that would have been 10th in the Sun Belt and was fourth in the WAC? The one that had two recruits flip late to Arkansas State to replace kids who flipped to SEC schools? They have a good program but they are no dream program.1 point
-
I don't want to be in the CUSA anymore. The Sun Belt is getting quite strong. Tony Mitchell has given the conference national recognition, MTSU and Denver are turning heads as well in basketball, we look to be a MAJOR force next year. Arkansas State is getting scary good, WKU moving up, UNT also moving up with our beautiful new stadium, FIU/FAU, etc. The Sun Belt has more to offer than CUSA, except for regional opponents. We should raid WAC and grab some of these teams and stick with the Belt.1 point

I agree. If you wanna stop getting treated like you're small-time, then you gotta stop acting like it. I'm all for him staying around, but you don't see the big schools campaigning to keep their freshmen during the middle of the season.-1 points

CUSA>>>>>>>>>>>Sun Belt. While I agree w/ you than the Sun Belt has gotten marginally better over the last few years, there are still some pretty solid programs in CUSA. Southern Miss, ECU, Tulsa, and Marshall have all had some pretty good success in recent years that dwarf anything that any member of the Sun Belt has accomplished. There are some bottom feeders (Rice, Tulane, UTEP, UAB) but every conference has a few of those. I think the next logical move for CUSA is to expand. Add La Tech, UNT, and UT-San Antonio now. La Tech is a program on the rise, UNT has committed itself financially to being competitive in CUSA, and UT-San Antonio is a mega wildcard in a huge market. They're worth the risk for CUSA to maintain a presence in Texas. After that, jettison UTEP to the MWC. So the end result is the following? MWC - Hawaii, Colorado State, Fresno State, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nevada, UNLV, UTEP, Utah State, Air Force (could bolt for Big East) CUSA - Tulsa, Rice, UNT, Tulane, UAB, Southern Miss, East Carolina, La Tech, UT-San Antonio, Marshall Not sure if I left anyone out but that is a solid "merger" between the two conferences. CUSA keeps a foothold in Texas with Rice, UNT, and UT-San Antonio and adds a rising program that is regionally friendly in La Tech. UNT would have several opponents within a reasonable driving distance that would interest the casual fan a hell of a lot more than UL-Lafayette, Western Kentucky, South Alabama, etc. The real hiccup is trying to convince CUSA to be BOLD. So far that hasn't been their strong suit.-1 points

Although I agree with 90 that it's the economy that will most affect the election, I also believe its the current administrations' policies that will, also. And their announcement this week in regards to forcing religious groups to participate in something that stands against their core values is one of those policies. And now they are trying to skirt around it and make changes? This is the perfect thread for that report. Rick Rick Rick Rick Rick Rick-1 points

Dont get me wrong, I would LOVE to have Scotty come to UNT... It would be great to have a top rated Denton guy to come back, not just him but for the future of recruiting Denton players to stay home, but I dont see it happening. I think that McNulty is Macs guy for the future and wont let it go.. We all saw what he did last year and it wasnt impressive, but hes Mac kid-2 points
