http://www.meangreen...TCLID=205369203 The Mean Green defense has improved by 16.5 points, the most in the nation Tied with Cal State Northridge in leading the nation in best turnaround. Also, Godbolt needs 20 points this saturday to hit the 1,000 point mark to become only the 13th player to do so. Way to go Mean Green! Rick Click here to view the article2 points

Rick was crying. I've never seen him like that. I chuckled at his little speech about the academic issues when he said something along the lines of how he'd never seen another coach produce such fine men as JJ. I guess it's the basketball team that's going on to be good husbands and fathers. Then I realized it's true. I've met several basketball players on campus and at football games. They have ALWAYS been gracious and polite, even when nobody's looking. Slightly off topic, these kids visually enjoy playing at UNT and playing for Johnny. I don't know if it's a new thing, but I love that they go high five all the students after the game.2 points

We are fortunate to have someone like Johnny at the helm who seems genuinely happy and proud to be here. Fans are quick to point out that we will be here long after coaching staffs have moved on, but this is a staff who has been around as long as I have been a fan. There is no doubt in my mind that this is a staff that cares and wants to be here. Happy to have him here. We have more potential to land some big recruits in the future. Having one Tony Mitchell is great. The thought of having other highly regarded ballers coming to play at North Texas is sweet. *crossing my fingers*2 points

Tony with 21 points, 15 rebounds, 6 blocks, 2 steals, 2 assists. One turnover. One foul. 8-11 from the field, 2-3 from 3-pt, 3-3 from the line Unbelievably efficient outing.2 points

Not a chance we win this game. If we lose, JJ should be relegated to outhouse cleaning duties in Jonesboro.2 points

Seems Vito knows where many recruits are visiting, but doesn't know who we have on campus. Seems odd, or typical.2 points

Also, I was a big fan of the starting 5 and, for the most part, minute distribution from tonight's game. Holmen, Franklin, Mitchell up front gives you 3 combo-forwards all capable of guarding SBC 4/5s while creating match-up issues on the other end. Alzee and Walton have to start, and I think played very well save for Walton's airballs (has to lead the nation)...Alzee's scoring has dipped, but he's being asked to do so much more work without CJ I think it's understandable. Tyler has been great in his minutes and I'm glad he's getting a legit shot at extended minutes. Norris looked a bit more comfortable late, but he's still playing a bit scared. Not sure where Niko's minutes have gone...like to see him for 10 or so a night...love having Ked back...he was definitely rusty tonight but he'll be a great benefit the rest of the year.1 point

Well, as far as local students/alums/dentonites are concerned, neither does ULM, FIU, FAU and WKU. I believe that UTSA and Texas State are significantly better for us in the catagory of "butts-in-the-seats".....especially if it's a November game.1 point

This is clearly great news. Coach Aston has done a terrific job this season with many of the same player Coach Stephens had last season. It's obvious that the Mean green have one of the best coaches in coach Aston that have ever led the Mean Green...and I am not just talking about women's BB here. By hiring Coach Aston and Coach Mac, UNT has definitely seen an upgrade in the last two years to two of its major sports. When one takes a look, if they will take that look, UNT has the best HC staff overall that I believe it has ever had as a group. I am not knocking other great Coaches UNT has had, just mentioning that I believe that, as a group of HC's, it is the best "group" I have even seen in my 45+ years of following the Mean Green!1 point

If I lived closer I would but have some officiating this weekend, but will be chairing a match or two when the ladies come to Fayetteville, a week from Saturday vs. Kansas State. I then see SFA the next weekend when they play a double header against UCA and UALR. Then I'll see Oral Roberts first weekend of March when they play UCA. Would love some reports if fans are able to make it out.1 point

So you are saying a tax cut for big business is, in effect, a tax cut for the poor and middle class since it is ultimately passed on to the consumer, right? See how that works? ;-)1 point
-
I hate the idea of applying "fairness" using the tax code (or any law) because "fairness" is such a subjective thing. What is "fair" to one person isn't "fair" to another person. I don't think it's "fair" that about half of the people in this country earning income don't pay any income taxes.1 point

I'm sure you've seen that, and I'm sure there are circumstances around those attacks that are not refelctive of my family & our relationship with our dog. I'm still not concerned. Not one iota. I know my dog better than anyone. I would be much more concerned about a Chihuahua or other yippy dog with "little big-dog syndrome" biting my child or my wife than my dog. My dog will NEVER "turn on" a person. EVER. I'm more confident in that than one day seeing Tony Mitchell in the NBA. I don't know how else to say it... and I'm no fool! There are crusades going on all over the nation by ignorant people to "ban" this breed, and in several cities/counties, they have succeeded. So unfair. Also, we see stories of pitbull attacks on the news all the time... Who wants to hear the story of a loveable dalmatian/golden retreiver attacking their owner? No one. So it never shows up on the news. The fear of pitbulls has been ingrained into our society sometime within the past 40 years. The news is helping flame it.1 point

Clint Dempsey netted a hat-trick, the first ever by an American in Premier League history, on Saturday in Fulham's 5-2 win over Newcastle (presently tied for 5th in the table). This comes two weeks after Dempsey recorded a hat trick in FA Cup play against Charlton Athletic, the top team in League One...the third tier of British soccer. Dempsey is Fulham's leading scorer with 15 goals in 30 games across all competitions. A few Americans have been moving during the January transfer window...Landon Donovan is back on loan with Everton, the Premier League side with whom he featured back in 09/10 while from Bayern Munich. Donovan has started five matches and has 2 assists in a facilitating mid-field role with the Toffees. Everton is also trying to secure at the least a loan deal for striker Edson Buddle as well. Midfielder Robbie Rogers has signed a deal with Leeds United...currently 9th in the English League Championship table (second tier), but only a point out of 6th and the all-important last spot for promotion play-off. Defender Tim Ream has been strongly linked with Bolton, currently 17th and just clear of relegation. Also, Jozy Altidore has been playing very well with AZ Alkmaar, currently the top side in the Dutch league. The top of the table is close, but if Alkmaar can stay in one of the top two spots it's very likely Altidore will be playing Champions' League football next season...that could be a boon to both his development and confidnece. Things are looking up for Americans in international soccer right now.1 point

He doesn't play up top for Fulham, he plays center forward typically in behind Bobby Zamora at striker. I think think playing him through the middle in behind a lone striker, or maybe 2 like he did in the US friendly with Slovenia...assuming you have someone(s) who has shown to be a capable finisher...is the best place for him.1 point

http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/mwc-cusa-all-sport-merger-in-hands-of-lawyers-29963 "While Conference USA and the Mountain West already have TV broadcast deals in place with Fox Sports, ESPN, CBS Sports and Comcast/NBC Universal, a broadcast contract for a newly-branded, 22-team league might provide a more significant windfall for the schools involved - if TV networks agree to tear up existing deals. A source also indicated to SbB this week that Mountain West conference television outlet The Mtn., has recently informed some of its employees that the network may cease operation - at least as an exclusive Mountain West outlet - after the MWC baseball tournament in late May." You know, all the people who praise Pit Bulls as "misunderstood", and "really sweet dogs", remind me of all those neighbors/classmates of a person who suddenly goes berserk and starts shooting up their school, workplace, mall, family/neighborhood etc., and they get interviewed afterward and say "well, he was just a real quiet and nice guy". Only, with Pitt Bulls, just about everyone has been forewarned. My feelings about those dogs are the same as my feelings regarding exotic pets(?) like boas or pythons. They have no business in neighborhoods.....especially neighborhoods with kids. FWIW, if anyone brings one of those things into my neighborhood and it attacks (or tries to attack) me, or my wife and/or grandkids. After I beat it to death with my aluminum baseball bat, I'm coming after the owner.0 points

I certainly wouldn't want to be part of something that had a great potential to fall apart. However, we so need to have some conference mates that "student/alum/local resident-joe/jane-six-pack" can recognize. As good as they might be in any given year, FI-Who, or FA-Who, or WK-Who, or ULM just doesn't do it for the general public. Now, we still need to be working (and very hard) at building/re-building our own traditions and sense of loyalty to our beloved University (my recent rants). So that we get the maximum number of butts-in-the-seats regardless of opponent. However, getting someone like Tulsa, New mexico, NMSU, Colorado State, Wyoming etc...into Denton on a regular basis only enhances the "traditions-rebuilding" effort. Even Texas State and UTSA are much better choices than the "who?" Universities that I listed above.0 points

I prefer to start Norris, Hall, Mitchel, Edwards, and Hogans Leaving plenty of juice off the bench! They do not have to stay in for long... but it gives us a ton of depth!0 points
