Prediction: Game time will be moved back 30 minutes as WKU will get lost coming to Denton. If we don't win, JJ should be hung from the rafters and required to shout out the score and the play by play of recent highlights thus becoming our center court scoreboard.4 points

Good morning sunshine, Here are some stats for you to chew on. Listed below are all the members of the SBC and the percentage of their shot attempts that are from 3-pt range. You will notice that NT is no where near the top of league. DEN 46% TRY 42% FAU 36% ULM 34% WKU 34% ALR 30% FIU 29% UNT 28% ULL 28% MUT 28% ASU 25% USA 24% As I have mentioned in other posts, our shot selection getting better with the addition of T. Mitch. Since his arrival, 26% of our shots are from three point range. Our 3-pt FG percentage has also improved. Before Mitchell we were shooting about 24% from the 3-pt line. Since, we are shooting 34%. Granted 34% from the arc is not great, but it's not terrible. You may think your constant comments about 3-pt shooting are cute or funny, but when you compare your statements to the facts they look more foolish than anything.4 points

His point wasn't that the % we make is great. His point was on the % of threes we shoot. He was dismissing your comment insinuating that all we do is jack up threes, by showing you that we shoot less threes than most of our conference mates.3 points

Students are only gonna go to the games if they wanna go.. You can do all these free gifts but it wont make a difference. Yes free tuition sounds good on paper but I highly doubt it would make a huge difference... Winning is only thing that will increase attendance, upgrading conferences wont hurt but if we dont win it will be the same. If you take the weather games out, our attendance wasnt that bad3 points

Shucks. Tasty's post made me giggle a bit as I thought back to the Mexia thread then you went and made me feel guilty for giggling. Oh well. I guess I'm adding to the problem. See you on the 1st, KRAM1!3 points

I think the board has found a happy medium from the constant highjacks that were once common. Granted, I liked Quoner and Tasty better when they were at their filthy peak (somewhere during the Tina Yothers years). The problems started when all the tag-a-longs tried to extend the jokes. Not everyone has the gift of comedy (I don't). Those that don't just need to STFU and enjoy the show so as not to screw it up for the rest of us.2 points

I laugh at his jokes. Does that mean I am in the corner too? Sometimes you have to have been here for awhile.2 points

Odoh is also 3rd in the nation in blocks (avg.), and 1st in the nation in total blocks. I'll take 14/14/5 next year. http://www.njcaa.org/sports_stats.cfm?sid=4&stat_type=i&gender=m&divid=1&slid=2&seasonselect=556&report_id=3767&requesttimeout=5002 points

Taylor is an extremely talented forward that will play for Karen Aston and the Mean Green next year. She is currently in her senior season at Pflugerville. She had a Q&A with the Austin American Statesman. I like her already. Link to rest of interview: Here2 points

Shouldn't be a problem, anyone who misses it will be kicking themselves for the next three years while we only play Western away.2 points

Nice to see you adding substance to this thread. Thanks for that. What do you think you are accomplishing by continually doing this sort of thing? Really, just wondering? Why would a fan want to screw up a decent thread with this sort of thing time and time again?2 points
-
I see no idea in this thread that hasn't already been done in the last decade, yet here we are. I think one of the biggest expansion opportunities is the train and creating a full experience that starts with killing the hassle of getting to Denton, but it would take a lot of work from a lot of people (and some flexibility that has not been there for all groups) to make it work.2 points

Hey guys, I bought a men's watch from a guy during the football season. He had some ladies watches with green bands. My wife has decided that she wants one after seeing it on someone at a b-ball game. Any ideas who the guy was, or how to get one??1 point

Understand that Hawaii prefers their olympic sports in the Big West. Doubt you will see them as an all sports member of the MWC1 point

Not only do you lose a vote, you are losing an auto bid in every sport. Personally, I hope they merge, I think it is good for the Sun Belt if it happens but it is the stupidest idea to come down the pike in a long time.1 point

derrick has been solid as my wood matt. and a cat can't scratch that! not a great shooter...heck, not even a good shooter but i love the kid. 36% from the field. 26% from 3-ville. 72% from the line. but he gets to the line more frequently than anyone on our team. 94 times with the next 2 closest at 57 & 39 attempts. leads us in rebounding at 6.8 and minutes at 33.1 per game. he has more assists than anyone on the team but he turns it over like he's shaving points. (he is from new jersey so who knows on that one) but he plays better defense than any freshman i've seen at western and that includes courtney lee (pbuh). that is one of the reasons he stays on the floor. all of that said his numbers mimic jordan williams of your team. if by playing a man down....you meant be saddled with ken mcdummy....i like the way you think. if by playing a man down you mean someone we've missed in games due to injuries there is nobody on this team that makes any difference if they're out. keepin' it real, always, dahbeed.1 point

I agree; and in addition to the loss of a vote they also stand to lose some big bucks from the NCAA. Each non-AQ conference's share is about $13 million which would be reduced to one conference's share. Losing $13M with nothing to show for it but additional travel expenses makes no sense. Even if they gained AQ status (which they won't) they would still lose $3 million dollars because the AQ conference share is $23 million. My guess is that each conference goes to ten teams with an eye toward twelve so that they can further cut travel costs and add a championship game. I absolutely hate conferences that have 'football only' members so I would hope Hawaii is admitted for all sports. Maybe make some concession on the non-revenue sports whereby they would only have to go to the islands once every four years but give them full membership. If the WAC teams could afford Hawaii as a member then surely the MWC can also.1 point

Per Hill CC site, John Odoh has exactly the same number of points and rebounds after 17 games, 232 for an 13.647 average. He has got to be among if not the leader in juco rebounds, but the stat I like best is that he has not attempted one three point shot.1 point

The hill is a great concept, but the drop-off parking lot (the old radison lot) rules need tweaking to maximize it. Apparently, student or university groups can reserve a full on parking pass in that lot on a per game basis...meaning that they can leave their car in the lot rather than just dropping stuff off and parking somewhere else. Maybe folks took advantage of that for the first couple games, but that lot sat empty after that. I think we need to open that baby up to the public. Allow student and university groups first rights to those spots, set a date (maybe each game week by Wed?), then allow anyone a shot at them. Then on the actual gameday, armed with the actual count of how many spots have been claimed/reserved, open that baby up as a cash lot for those that want to park and tailgate on the hill. We need that hill completely full, every game.1 point

exactly. a team starting a bunch of freshmen. no outside shooters. (i'm not making that up...check the stats...28.9% from 3-ville) no inside presence. most definitely nobody like tony mitchell. for that matter...we don't have anyone close to chris jones or jordan williams. second game after a coaching change. there'll be nothing to see here gentlemen. you beat troy by 22. they beat us AT DIDDLE. tough start for the ray harper (interim) era. the most 'talented' team in the league in unt and then on to honky heaven @ 5,280 feet high.1 point

Unless it's an issue with his previous transcripts before he came here. What you did was look up what it means when someone is arrested for murder and then tried to explain that everyone arrested is a murderer. If it is that and we don't have all of those facts (and it appears no one had the facts until right before the season, which would explain the timing of his eligibility), then you are basically yelling at JJ for not knowing what anyone knew. I wish he was playing, but I wouldn't particularly enjoy having MTSU's record for now and finding out none of it will count later because of whatever happened at Grambling.1 point

I don't think I can give you a completely accurate student viewpoint, but I can tell you what I saw on campus when it wasn't Saturday. First of all, I think that overall, the students did pretty good this year until the last game when they didn't feel like sitting in a cold rain for a game that didn't matter. Unfortunately somebody saw 50 guys getting drunk on the hill during a game, ignoring completely the thousands of students that were in the stadium at the time, and raised hell about it internally and externally, resulting in an article in the North Texas Daily, Lane Rawlins shutting down tailgating for a week, and police presence so prominent I expected to be asked for my papers inside and out of the stadium. The students, as a general rule, don't put much stock into UNT athletics as it is. Creating an atmosphere, perceived or actual, of antagonism from the faculty and alumni, isn't going to bring them in. Believe me, there are plenty of other pursuits when you're between the ages of 18 and 22. Pardon the horrific comparison, but if you want to increase student attendance, you gotta' think like the big tobacco companies. That is to say, acknowledge that you're not going to get organic growth in your existing customer base. You need to get 'em young. Like real young. Attack two fronts here. 1) Incoming freshman. Emphasize the football program like crazy to incoming freshman. Emphasize it at that first flight week. Make them tour the stadium. Have some kind of dorm wars thing at the games. Have dorm sponsored tailgating in the student premium lot. Have the talons go roust them out of bed on Saturday mornings and get their butts over to the stadium. Walk them there, drive them there. Hell, give them piggy back rides. But get them there. And when they're there, welcome them with open arms. Even if they're wearing a burnt orange sweatshirt. Even if they don't stand. Even if they don't know how to wave their arms during the alma mater (something I still have yet to figure out. I guess they don't emphasize that in grad school). 2) Area elementary and middle schools. I was listening to the women basketball team against Texas Tech a while ago. They bussed up a thousand DISD elementary school kids for that game and they had a blast. They were loud. They were nuts. They were 1,000 butts in the seats. Why the hell can't football do this? Is it demeaning? Does it reduce revenue to fill a couple thousand otherwise empty seats? Bring in the kids and make them fans. Hell, pay for the busses to bring them in and make that money up in concession sales. Attack these two fronts and accomplish two things 1) Bring an immediate and statistically significant increase in butt count at each and every home game. 2) Create a future revenue stream of dedicated alumni donors when we are rooting for the Mean Green from six feet under, shouting for the worms to get the hell out of our view.1 point

I think stadium location and parking are huge problems for everyone. 1. They need more parking at the stadium. 2. They need cash parking at the stadium. 3. They need free shuttles to run from Fouts parking to the stadium. 4. Drop the price on Fouts parking. ($5 bucks if we have to keep hiking). I think tailgating blows at Apogee 1. Bulldoze that stupid hill & build a tail gating park 2. Consolidate the beer tents. Why is Miller Lite out in BFE. 3. Give away free tailgating stuff. Beer, hot dogs, face painting, ect. 4. Provide bathrooms. Why the outside stadium bathrooms by the ticket office is locked makes no sense.1 point

Firstly, congratulations Mean Green on your hire of Karen Aston. What you are getting is a coach both difficult and easy to understand. She will demand total dedication from her players, both on the court and in the classroom. If they miss class, they will be suspended. If they don't write a paper on time, they will be suspended. If they disrespect the coaches, they will be suspended. If they don't hustle and play attention in practice, they will be embarrassed in front of their peers. Do not be surprised if some of them can't take all that and decide to transfer. What they get in return for their dedication is a chance to learn basketball and life from someone who has quite an understanding of both. How many people in this world would win 27 games, be in position to contend the following year for a league championship, and give that all up to take on a major rebuild just from a sense of responsibility to family? Not too many. I think. So, welcome her, embrace her, and support her and your team. Some of us here in Charlotte surely wish we still had that opportunity.
