Arkansas State is not one of our primary rivals in recruiting. I don't think we've offered a single one of their commits. Our primary rivals in recruiting are members of other conferences. And do you know one of the major strikes they use against us? . . . Our conference. If our conference can improve its image with bowl wins and other OOC wins, it helps us in recruiting.2 points

Royce LaFrance. With a name like that and playing linebacker, does that mean he can hit you like you've been run over by a Fire Truck?1 point

Is there a way to block this thread from Dr. Seuss' view? Congratulations Tony! Well deserved.1 point

I think youre looking at it the wrong way, its easy to say that from the inside looking out.. but look at it from the outside looking in.. The first thing people say about Unt is who??, no one nationally knows who we are (-1).. How many football games have you won in the past 5 years, dont even wanna say (-1) Does Unt have any media coverage outside the radio (-1) How many bowl games have yall won (-1) Arnt yall called NTSU not Unt... (-1) How well does Unt travel to other games... i cant answer that one bc ive only been to a couple Yes, Unt has made great strides in making us more marketable but we are not where we need to be... Perception is reality and in reality we are a nobody. In order to be a somebody you have to do everything, you dont get rewarded for doing 50% of the work1 point

Really bringing up the death penalty, that was 25 years ago... We all know you hate SMU but you keep on saying the same things over and over. Who cares how they count there attendence, thats not the reason why they are upgrading conferences... THEY WIN FOOTBALL GAMES and more are national recognized than a lot of other schools. The way we will upgrade to a better conference is by winning football games... If we dont win games we wont move.. You dont get a promotion by doing poorly...1 point

They're jumping ship on the Hilltop. Why would you want to commit to a sinking ship?1 point

North Texas has plenty to offer to Chase regardless of which commits SMU loses.1 point

As of now, that is the momentum changer. ASU hasn't been able to recover and has now gone from stopping NIU and getting the ball back up 13-0, to giving up 21 straight and being down 21-13.1 point

did it??? yes, the 1 vs. 2 teams are going against each other, but what about how 1 and 2 are decided upon? no reason for alabama to be number 2 this year...other teams deserved it just as much and alabama has already proven that they can't beat lsu...someone else's turn...1 point

I'm disappointed in our attendance for Sun Belt games but the poster had a point that we do draw better against known teams. Baylor, SMU, TCU, Army, Navy, Houston, Rice, Tulsa, et al all have drawn more than 20,000 whereas none of the current SBC members have drawn that many that I can recall. Just this past year Houston and Indiana drew more than 20K while the best conference turnout was less than 18,000 (ULM). It seems that there is less importance placed on attendance per se than the ability to draw a TV audience. SMU would not have been chosen for the Big East if attendance were a major factor. Most of their "attendance" increase was tickets purchased but not used.1 point

Every recruit we sign settles on us. They may not be as open about it as others.1 point

I believe the current team worth is five games for the price of six. What, too soon? *Because of the highly sensitive nature of many people reading this board over the current scheduling issue, I feel it obligatory to point out that I wrote the above comment in complete jest and intend neither support nor derision toward next year's football schedule and how it may ultimately turn out. I just like BBQ'd ribs and pie. That is all.1 point

I can see Temple...they'd be a great addition because they'd be adding the Philadelphia market and it is a school that seems to have a lot of school pride and it's big. They have to add a Florida team after UCF bolted so would make sense. I can see this happening.1 point

I'm not buying Temple & FIU. 1. No other media outlet has picked up the story. A few blogs have linked to the original article, but no one else is confirming, including the Philly & Miami press. 2. It doesn't make sense the merger as it stands is 17 football teams, 16 all sports. 19 football teams doesn't make sense. I'm not buying Utah State or San Jose State (or as they are known, San Hose State) 1. The MWC had their shot to add USU & SJSU and passed. Rumor was they liked USU, but didn't want SJSU for the 12. And the truth was they didn't need those team. 2. The "western" merger options don't bring a media market. The merger is about increasing conference profile, not just assembling everyone who's left out of the BCS. 3. Neither of these schools are going to boost the conference's strength of schedule or general perception. 4. If they are going with two 9 team divisions it makes more sense to move UTEP to the western division that elevate a competitor in the west. 5. I don't think the merger wants to kill the WAC. The merged league would consist of: East Carolina, Marshall, Memphis, Rice, Southern Miss, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB and UTEP from C-USA and Air Force, Colorado State, New Mexico, UNLV and Wyoming from the Mountain West along with new members Fresno State, Hawaii and Nevada. I think it makes more sense to go to an all sports league, move UTEP to the west, and add either UNT or LA Tech.1 point

From what I have seen over The 4 years of following the belt, the refs suck. The belt needs to see how they can make more revenue to upgrade the entire conference, from refs to media coverage But I only know one thing, that I know nothing1 point

With an extra month of practice SMU has to be the early favorite to win CUSA next season. What's funny is Dodge did better the last time he coached against SMU, when they threw on every down.1 point

A generation thing? Perhaps. One nice thing about getting older (and there are not a lot of nice things about getting older) is one worries a lot less about whether other's approve of their fashion choices - or not. Personally, I have worn all of what you suggest - and during this year's games. I have worn shorts with pull-over shirt with loafers and no socks; I have worn sweat pants with hoodie and running shoes; I have worn button-down shirts with whatever - and I will continue these, what some see as fashion faux pas' choices, next year, too. You know what? I don't care at this point in life whether I am a fashion maven or not; whether others waste their time on a sports team board trashing my choices or not. I am comfortable enough in my own skin to make my own decisions 'bout most everything in my life and to hell with other's opinions regarding those decisions. Age brings focus and maturity as to what is important in this life - and this fashion topic for football games ain't! Oh, one other thing I have learned with my maturity (age) progression - the personnel at UNT, and all of the other "charitable" organizations to which I give my money, don't care either - as long as I have a substantial contribution in my hand I am their best friend and they treat me graciously regardless of how I am dressed. Please excuse my posting to an obviously appropriate recruiting thread that, somehow, lost its focus. GMG1 point

The time period of such suckage between 2005 and 2010 continues to hold us back on moving to a better conference. Had our recruiting not fallen off a cliff we would have at least remained competitive in the conference instead of becoming one of the worst programs in FBS for more than half a decade.1 point

They do! Was just there a few days ago. It was on sale, too. Not sure if it still is. Walmart on 288 has a decent selection as well... but you have to go to Walmart... on 288... which is awful.1 point

Now that this is in the Eagle's Nest, I'll chime in once here, then hang up and listen. Alot of people believe as you do. As a matter of fact, I'm sure if you press alot of Americans, they would come to this same conclusion... even ones who profess to be Christian/Muslim/Buddhist/any other religion. The truth is, if you dig into any of the texts (Bible/Koran/Pali Canon/etc...), or inquire with a minister for each religion, you'll find this ideology to be out of the question: A purely man-made, secular idea. And, there are plenty of secular places of worship out there as well. Jesus professes to be God incarnate. There aren't many others who also profess this. Muhammad does not, Buddha does not. None of the major religions have this caveat other than Christianity. To use the age-old term: Jesus is either a Lord, Liar, or Lunatic. That is a question for everyone to answer on their own. A Christian's job (Mat. 28:19) is to share the Gospel with everyone. This is offensive to many people. Hence, either the Christian backs down and does not follow through on this command and is praised as tolerant by secular society, OR that Christian acts on this command and is disliked by secular society as being offensive/intolerant. Now, don't get me wrong, there are MANY Christians who do this in a way that is overly offensive (i.e: the dude who preached fire-brimstone in the free speach area on campus when I was there '00 - '05), and there are "Christians" who are just flat-out, NOT CHRISTIAN. (i.e: Westboro Baptist Church, Robert Tilton, this is a long list...) Tim Tebow is doing a fantastic job of following through on his command (He's not a fantastic QB though, and the option-style offense will definitely be exposed if they make it to the playoffs, IMHO). I agree with Kurt Warner's quote above, and I think St. Francis said it beter: "Share the Gospel always. Use words when necessary." Actions speak louder than words, correct? So as long as Tebow is not living a life contrary to what he's saying, then I think he's doing as Christ instructed him. Now, as far as the whole planking/owling/Tebowing thing? I never got into that. Am I old? Oh no! But, if you whippersnappers are having fun doing it, then by all means...1 point

Yea... People of all religions do terrible things. Once again, see what Tebow has done to us?1 point

Front page of the Star Telegram this morning. VATICAN CITY — Pope Benedict XVI issued pleas for peace to reign across the world during his traditional Christmas address Sunday, a call marred by Muslim extremists who bombed a Catholic church in Nigeria, striking after worshippers celebrated Mass The assault on the Catholic church left 35 dead in Madalla, near the Nigerian capital. A failed bombing also occurred near a church in the city of Jos, followed by a shooting that killed a police officer. The blast came a year after a series of Christmas Eve bombs in Jos claimed by Islamist militants killed 32. Rick1 point

Recognizing someone as a prophet does not equal recognizing someone as Deity. Muslims do not recognize Jesus Christ as Deity (they firmly disavow it), Christians do, therefore the two groups do not worship the same God.1 point

Tebow isn't squatting on others property, creating a mess, confronting police, raping, overdosing, or blocking hard working everyday Americans from getting to their jobs, which just happen to be in a bank. A pretty terrible analogy, don't you think?1 point

So you are saying a Christian standing up for his beliefs is not as courageous? Funny how what you consider courageous lines up exactly with your political beliefs. I guess if you disagree with them, they can't be courageous, right?? Hence the double standard in today's society. For the record, Tebow's constant religious references does get on my nerves, also, but I admire the guy for sticking to his beliefs. I'm sure he has been under emmense pressure from his agent, Denver PR staff, his PR person, and many others to tone it down. Nice to see someeone sticking to their beliefs.1 point
