  1. Almost everyone has an ankle. Two, actually.

  2. Some of you are simply incredible....and not in a positive way. What in the Sam Hill are you complaining about? RV has been one busy AD this year....new football HC, new stadium opening after months and months of construction, naming rights...did you forget that little event? New women's head basketball coach hired....seen how the team is doing lately? A major increase in the number of Mean Green Club members and donations, increased local and national...yes, national PR, increases GPA levels for UNT athletes across the board....and on and on. This has been the busiest guy in the DFW area this entire year and he has done an excellent job for the Mean Green Nation. I know there are areas where he is not overly happy, and he will be working on those this next year...But, for the love of God people, give it a rest! Just dumping Mandy and getting a new staff for the Mean Green Club was BIG in my book! OK, a little humor there.... RV has earned a bit of down time...if, in fact, he is enjoying a bit of downtime over the holidays. He seems to be at all the holiday season games...ever notice that he goes to the student area toward the end of every game and thanks the students? Have you even bothered to notice that little gesture? Probably not, as some are too busy trying to figure out what t o complain about next. If you have the guts, go up to him at the next game...you do attend games, right? And, be sure and let him know that you think he has just been sitting around relaxing for most of the year...and, tell him how you would do it so much differently. Please, man up, and tell him to his face what you post here....I am 100 percent certain that he would respond in a much kinder manner.... For all that is good give it a rest....

  4. It sucks to see him go down for the second time in a few years... hopefully he will be back for the tourney! Holmen, Niko and Edwards will need to step it up! Its becoming a "lets look forward for next year" scenario

  5. NT and SMU are like a mistress and a wife who doesn't know about her respectively. A mistress knows that in the grand scheme of things that she's not the center of the universe...the wife (SMU) is ignorant to just how little regard she is held in.

  7. No, and we aren't paid to, either. Doesn't seem to be that hard for universities that have far less to offer than UNT.

  11. You don't fill Apogee Stadium and increase MGC membership by offering an inferior product. IF this schedule stays the same, I would bet that you see season ticket sales and MGC membership decline this year. Like it or not, people want something for their money, and Texas Southern as the only OOC game ain't gonna cut it. I don't know why that game was ever scheduled in the 1st place. Also, as someone who pays a pretty penny for my seats, I'll be very very disappointed if the current schedule is intact next fall.

  13. Please do not take this post to heart. It is one person's not too informed opinion. To begin with, ODU is not one of the top 5 academic institutions in the southeast. It might be in the state of Virginia but it's definitely behind the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Richmond and VCU. That's based on freshman SAT scores. Then why is the poster worried about Old Dominion entering the CUSA division? How many times has it occurred that an FCS team has been accepted for membership in CUSA? The MWC and CUSA are not entry level conferences. He could be right on some of his speculation but no one can possibly know until after January 15. The Alliance may or may not take Hawaii in as a full member. If they did that would eliminate the need for another 'football only' member. I also think that the final results will depend on how the TV package is structured. If the package is for football only there will be no need for the alliance to operate as one conference. But, do they return to 'as you were' with CUSA at 12 teams and Mountain West at nine or do both go to the same number? I don't want to rail against any possible member at this time but I sincerely hope that the conferences add teams more centrally located if they are planning to operate coast to coast. Adding a Temple, for instance, even though they are worthy, must prove cost-effective. Travel expenses will soar when teams are added to the extreme east or west. We're due for a lot of rumors and speculation in the next few weeks. Just try to keep all this in perspective. Most of those who will comment are sharing their own views and may, or may not, have much to do with reality.

  14. The reasons UNT is almost always one of the last to find out their schedule is because of all the money games that the Sun Belt plays. The Sun Belt tailors their schedule around the SEC and the other BCS conferences so their teams can play money games. So once all of the other conferences set their schedules then the Sun Belt makes theirs.

  16. I'm not writing McNulty off, but I think he should have also been given a redshirt year to further develop and mature. I think he was thrown into situations that he wasn't ready for that hurt the team and could have potentially hurt McNulty's development. I was highly critical during the year of playing McNulty over Osborn based upon game performance, but this had nothing to do with McNulty personally. He is probably a great young man, and I hope he is one of the players we look at upon his graduation as one of the greats to play at North Texas, as I wish for all of our players, but his playing this year didn't make sense.

  17. Well, if the USF of the Lone Star State develops a football team, they are building the kind of home schedule that if you win at home a school can start getting Top 25 consideration or rankings while North Texas finds every excuse under the sun as to why our 100 year plan for success is so much the better; plus another previous game plan for success for UNT was when we had a former AD who told a fellow alum and myself why the Big West Conference would be so much better a league for UNT to be in than the league that would become CUSA . "We have met the enemy and the enemy is..... who the hell we've been hiring up there for most of the last 30 years. So go ahead, drink your green koolade but it's the damn truth and most our former HFC careeer w/l records of most every varsity coach we've had up there the last 30 years is the proof in the pudding. By the way, many athletic employees that that former UNT AD I mention in the above paragraph hired are still on the UNT payroll today after all these "suceessful" years later since he's been gone, too. What a helluva' peachy job to work in the safe confines and comfort zone of the North Texas athletic departmet where the more successful NCAA FBS schools are hardly coming to Denton by the droves to hire all our success stories away from us. I was a doubter before, but I now congratulate UTSA on their success and being a model for other schools who could also say "why not us" as part of their mission statement for their next 100 year plan. Moral of Story: North Texas has too much going for it "location-wise and constituency-wise" to keep standing still and to allow Sun Belt Conference "so-called" standards of excellance to continue to be our own. Just sayin' what many of our elect are still silently keeping to themselves. GMG!

  20. Well Zo, here you go. You're our big-body in the paint now. Looking forward to seeing you step up sir! This will force Holmen to stay around the basket and post more. Mitchell can obviously chip in as well. Can Niko? We'll probably see more from Franklin down low too?

  22. Biggest reason this can't be done is that there are already bowls on the waiting list to be added and the NCAA isn't adding any more bowl games anytime soon. There is a bowl from LA and Orlando that are trying to get added but the NCAA keeps turning them down.
    1 point
  23. A couple of realistic thoughts. 1. The NCAA has a ban on new bowls (thank god). 2. Its not SMU's bowl, its TCU's. 3. The TCU new's home in the B12 and MWC-CUSA merger will likely change the bowl's tie-in. 4. The Armed Forces Bowl and Ticket City bowls are actually reasons for UNT to get the last spot in the merger. Its hard to sell 15,000 tickets to a Friday morning DFW bowl. We stand a better chance of doing that than say Arkansas State.

  28. Harry, you're on a roll and why not get the Denton County-based Texas Motor Speedway's Bruton Smith involved with this Apogee-based bowl or better yet.... how's about our fellow North Texas alum (?) who is CEO of Inter-State Batteries or .....both of them? GMG! PS: There are just some things North Texas is going to have to do to let NCAA powers know we are not brain-dead or oblivious to things that take place outside our little comfort zone known as Denton,Texas. Not every non AQ school has the market or alums to make this work, but we sure as hell do yet someone on campus has to take the ball and run with it. Does North Texas ever use the list in the link below of invaluable North Texas Exes many of whom yield much power and influence? This newer list of our rich and famous is almost unbelievable and most impressive to say the least. One on the list even sang the national anthem at Apogee Stadium's debut game. http://en.wikipedia....th_Texas_alumni

  29. After reading the thread, I have a few random thoughts: 1. We (ualr) have a lot of of talent on this team. Talent good enough to start in front of guys that are upper classmen. a. Jeeves was recruited by bcs schools and Georgia wanted him. b. Will Nieghbor had plenty of bcs interest including Syracuse. c. The two other freshmen that start are basketball players not athletes like most of Steve's teams. I am not saying that our talent is better than unt just that a YMCA team did not drop by and happen to win last night. 2. Steve has done pretty good all time against unt, so coaching plays a part here. I can't believe jones stopped pressing after getting the lead back. Unt wins if they keep the press on. 3. We have been in the lead 10 times this year at the half, so the 3 -10 record is misleading. We are learning to win. I think unt will get it going and fight for the division title again this year. I am hoping we can finish .500 in conference. I always enjoy reading your board. Knowledgable fans and not a lot of flaming or trolls. Good luck the rest of the way.

  30. sorry guys, i thought we were allowed to voice our opinions, whether they coincided with everybody elses or not. My bad.

  31. For me it's not as much about who were playing, but the fact the AD promised everyone 6 home games would be the standard from now on and marquee home games against well known teams. It was also said money games would be cut to a minimal amount, but here we are with two in the second season of our new stadium, which honestly I could deal with if we had two good home games, but yeah...nope.
    1 point
  32. No doubt we draw fewer, because we only have 5 HOME GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know you meant average attendance, but having only 5 home games screams small time much more than who we open against. There should be some accountability if this is not rectified and we don't add a 6th home game. Talk about backward steps in fundraising.

  33. I take full responsibility for this loss. I am out of town for the holidays, San Diego...and yes, I played golf at Torrey Pines....but, I made the decision to leave the wife in San Diego and head home to Denton in time for both the Dec. 31st games. So sorry for the loss folks...my bad...I'll accept full responsibility for this one.....see you for the double home win day on the 31st.

  39. Is this post intended to be as funny as it is?

  40. I agree. No coach in his right mind would jeopardize his salary or his reputation to put in a player out of friendship. I find the idea laughable. Would you jeopardize your job by hiring a worker to a key position who wasn't qualified (even the son of a good friend) when you know that your boss and backers are monitoring your own position very closely? Give Coach Mac some credit for both intelligence and integrity.

  41. Admitting naïveté here, but I always find it a challenge to think that any coach would put his chance at the "next big job" at risk to intentionally play the kid with less ability just because said coach played football with said kid's father. There is a lot of money to be made in coaching these days. I don't fault anyone's sense of loyalty for putting his own family's financial future ahead of a friendship with an old football buddy. It may be an easy out to say Coach played McNulty because Coach knows his dad real well. I don't know what it is, but I suspect there is some other reason. Coach can coach....I will leave it at that. 42. An immediate 198.7% increase in winning percentage, and still the hundred dollar bill is wrinkled. College football -- what the NFL would be if the fans owned and managed the teams. Know what I see? After a single season, Dan McCarney could lose his next 24 games, and he'd be equal to his predecessor. That's what I see. Know what else? After the 3 opening games, the team played .500 ball for the rest of the season. Know what else I see? Hope. First the first time since I've known of this program. Genuine, legitimate, bona fide hope. For all I care, McCarney could put his half-wit transgendered step-niece under center (assuming adequate academic performance, of course). As long as the wins keep increasing, I'm all good.
