So I'm confused. Is the whole idea of attending and supporting UNT athletics to, and I know this is thinking outside the box, you know, enjoy it? Or is the whole idea of attending and supporting UNT athletics to spend every waking hour relentlessly searching for even the smallest speculation, facts be damned, to bitch and whine and moan about? I'm choosing option A, but seriously, too many of this fan base seem to live, eat, and breathe option B.6 points

I really wish JJ would Taylor the offense to the talent he has rather than trying to shove square pegs into round holes. This offense has no rhythm. It's like a white kid from Allen at his first middle school dance.6 points

We got outcoached , pretty simple. We had far superior talent on the floor tonight , no question. UALR played almost the entire game w/ 2 freshman on the court at all times so don't give me the young team excuse. In fact , the Trojans played mostly 2 frosh & 2 soph over the last 5 minutes. We didn't go inside when the only person down low was Courtney Jackson. Jackson is a 3 playing out of position who is coming off a season ending knee injury from a year ago. The 2 tall white kids are tall , but not what I would call post defenders. The few times we did go down low we had success. Marlon Louzeiro is really the inside force and he only played a few minutes ( which really surprised me seeing how well he played in last year's tourny) . I was really impressed w/ Michael Javes. Get to know that name , he will be a all conference at least twice in his career. Why do we seem to only look for the OUTSIDE shot ? It's really bothersome. It works when you have guys like White,TT & D Mo , but it's not going to work with this group. Alot of standing around and confusion it seems. Hopefully that goes away the more this team plays Why do we not play with any urgency until the last few minutes of every game ?? We go to a press , gain the lead and then call it off ? It's like going to a prevent D in football. I think they scored every time down the floor after we stopped pressing. We have enough talent to run anyone out on the floor. We should start pressing the entire game. Seriously. It would help our 3 point D ( because every team seems to get a basket from beyond the arc when they want one ) It would keep T Mitch out of foul trouble and it would wear down the other team. There is not 1 team in the Belt that can match our talent 1 to 10 . 1 to 5 , yes , but 1 to 10 I don't think so. I'm done venting , thanks for listening6 points

How in the world do we let 21 seconds run off the clock before we foul!?!?!?!? Someone made a huge mistake right there... the same mistake that cost us the tourney last year... Lots of mistakes tonight and JJ needs to take some of the blame. He is a great coach but our lineups seemed scrambled our defense was awful and even when we ran the press why was tony playing underneath the basket with 4 fouls. It was a failure waiting to happen and he had to let an easy basket go. Shooting is still awful but honestly we do not run an offense and clog our own lanes and force ourselves to just swing it around the perimeter!!! We hardly ran an offense tonight and it showed.6 points

Some of you are simply incredible....and not in a positive way. What in the Sam Hill are you complaining about? RV has been one busy AD this year....new football HC, new stadium opening after months and months of construction, naming rights...did you forget that little event? New women's head basketball coach hired....seen how the team is doing lately? A major increase in the number of Mean Green Club members and donations, increased local and national...yes, national PR, increases GPA levels for UNT athletes across the board....and on and on. This has been the busiest guy in the DFW area this entire year and he has done an excellent job for the Mean Green Nation. I know there are areas where he is not overly happy, and he will be working on those this next year...But, for the love of God people, give it a rest! Just dumping Mandy and getting a new staff for the Mean Green Club was BIG in my book! OK, a little humor there.... RV has earned a bit of down time...if, in fact, he is enjoying a bit of downtime over the holidays. He seems to be at all the holiday season games...ever notice that he goes to the student area toward the end of every game and thanks the students? Have you even bothered to notice that little gesture? Probably not, as some are too busy trying to figure out what t o complain about next. If you have the guts, go up to him at the next game...you do attend games, right? And, be sure and let him know that you think he has just been sitting around relaxing for most of the year...and, tell him how you would do it so much differently. Please, man up, and tell him to his face what you post here....I am 100 percent certain that he would respond in a much kinder manner.... For all that is good give it a rest....5 points

Considering he only needs a 2.0 or maybe even a 1.8 to be NCAA eligible, it is pretty sad that he can not maintain a C- average4 points

sounds like coaching to me, same mistakes from OOC carrying over into Conference, but apparently I just need to smoke some weed.4 points

Two of his fouls last night were on the perimeter, one on an outside jumper by the 6'10" guy in the 1st half and one 30 feet from the basket for his 4th foul in the second half. Inexcusable. TM is trying to find his way in this offense right now, an offense that relies on very little movement in a post up, kick out game. Problem is no one on this team has a post up game and no one can consistently hit an outside shot. This team should be pressing as long as it can to take advantage of their athleticism and hide the terrible outside shooting. I wish I shared some of y'alls optimism, but this team has some serious problems that it has shown little progress in solving. It needs to find answer quick, or else they could find themselves looking at an 0-3 or 0-4 conference record.3 points

I agree. Truth is he's playing out of position because we are thin at that position. He's 6'8 2(something), put him on the perimeter (on offense) and give him space to find his grove, isolate him in the post. This guy has Kobe's stature, with Lebron's aggression. He should be playing with his talents, not against them. The other less talented players should be the ones having to adjust. This team should have a Chris Paul/Blake Griffin type dynamic with Mitch and CJ. It's frustrating seeing his talent not being utilized. You use a hammer for nails, not a screwdriver. Additionally, people bashing the coaching clearly have never played competitive basketball. The team is losing because they are unable to make shots. They are in position to make shots, they're just not making them. That falls on the players shoulders and their extra time in the gym, not the coach. This is college, not high school. They should already be players, coach can only put them in a position to apply their talents. We sink that shot in the fourth and that's a W. A win is a win, no matter the margin. String 20 close wins together and voila, great season.3 points

Or we can take away the payday games and replace them with games we actually have a chance to win for a few years so people can take notice and then perhaps want to buy tickets and donate. 750K is great and all but it will never help when you're down by 50 at halftime because you'll never be taken seriously from your casual fanbase.3 points

I know the way JJ's teams play defense has been criticized in the past, but that really isn't our problem this year. I think we're improved in most statistical categories. The problem is we only have about 3 guys who can score with any dependability.3 points
-
Rough from the line but he did had 8 rebounds and 9 assists. I like that he filled up the stat line. Mitchel playing 13 minutes and Hogans playing 16 was a bit impact down low on a team that has 3 6'10" players. We still should have dominated this game from the start. Its time for someone to light a fire under these young men!3 points

I am embarrassed by this score. I know this is a young team, but it is supposed to be a talented team too. This is a game we should have won. .500 at the FT line, and Mitchell fouling out, is getting old real quick.3 points

I don't like the modern day wacky uniforms, but I do love the matte color helmets. (Oregon, OK State, etc). Baylor's matte green helmets are SWEET. I would love to see UNT in some matte green next year.2 points

That was me and a buddy of mine. We are in those seats every game and are more than willing to take it to the refs if need be. I feel like if more people would stop sitting on their hands and actually cheer/heckle/boo/make any kind of noise, we might actually have a home court advantage. I hate paying for season tickets and seeing tons of horrible calls in our gym. We can do something about that, but it will require more people to actually care. Perhaps that is a discussion for another thread. Of course, it could just be the hip-hop in me talking.2 points

Whatever. This is just another excuse for LOSING. I don't understand why Johnny just doesn't have the guys press during the entire game.2 points

After reading the thread, I have a few random thoughts: 1. We (ualr) have a lot of of talent on this team. Talent good enough to start in front of guys that are upper classmen. a. Jeeves was recruited by bcs schools and Georgia wanted him. b. Will Nieghbor had plenty of bcs interest including Syracuse. c. The two other freshmen that start are basketball players not athletes like most of Steve's teams. I am not saying that our talent is better than unt just that a YMCA team did not drop by and happen to win last night. 2. Steve has done pretty good all time against unt, so coaching plays a part here. I can't believe jones stopped pressing after getting the lead back. Unt wins if they keep the press on. 3. We have been in the lead 10 times this year at the half, so the 3 -10 record is misleading. We are learning to win. I think unt will get it going and fight for the division title again this year. I am hoping we can finish .500 in conference. I always enjoy reading your board. Knowledgable fans and not a lot of flaming or trolls. Good luck the rest of the way.2 points

Agree in the sense that I'm happy that he still found a way to be productive with his minutes, but let's not pretend that the offensive success on this team (from the beginning of the season to now) doesn't flow through CJ. Whenever he's on the bench or struggling from the floor, the team's offense is in total disaray. Last night, he couldn't get his little runner in the lane to fall and had a tough night from the FT line. In the games that our offense has looked competent this season, he has been the spark plug to start it, then continues to facilitate for others. One thing that I will say is that I've been totally impressed with CJ's rebounding.2 points

sorry, i didn't think that the entire court behind the 3 point line should have been considered the perimeter. They were both standing on the letters in "North Texas" at mid-court. I agree that this kind of foul trouble is inexcusable and I would love to see us make some changes to prevent it. kudos to the guys below me at the bottom of 106 for unleashing hell on the refs after the shooting foul behind the arc.2 points

I've seen your outside shot, and trust me, nothing you could have done would have helped.2 points

I expected this team to struggle deep into the season, but i also expected signs of steady improvement that really ain't there. Without any veteran leadership this group is lost out there. Of our 3 returning players we've got a hustle guy, a ballhog and an ogar. Nice useful players, but no one that can steady the ship when the young guys get discombobulated.... Which happens a lot.2 points
-
i believe the foul trouble is because he is not a center and mentally collapses when trying to guard one at the college level. he will play the 3 at the next level and he needs to be playing it at this one now. his dribbling skills are light years beyond J.W.'s and I would love to see him get a few more touches on offense. This would give us a threat similar to Tristan with someone that isnt afraid to take it to the basket and get the other team in foul trouble. This could easily be done while giving J.W. the same amount of minutes since he could sub either Tony or Alzee. The only playing time change I can foresee with this type of adjustment is less Walton and more Zo. Of course, if Ked is going to miss time none of this matters.2 points

This is not a good basketball team right now. UuALR is a bottom 4 team in the Belt, and they just beat us... At home. This team has figured nothing out in the OOC schedule. Really worried.2 points

A few thoughts. I thought this team would dominate the boards this season...especially in conference. I was wrong The continued calls for Niko should be flatly ignored by JJ. He doesn't rebound proportionate to his size, he's no asset on D and his. Offense doesn't make up for it. Dirk plays no defense...but he brings it on offense. Niko not so much We need to go to the basket!2 points

You are the best listener ever to pull that nugget out of all the Wisconsin, Iowa St., S. Florida, Florida talk, not to mention to be able to stay awake through the lengthy coach speak segments. I admire your stick-to-it-ness. Not a shot. I'm completely serious.2 points

An immediate 198.7% increase in winning percentage, and still the hundred dollar bill is wrinkled. College football -- what the NFL would be if the fans owned and managed the teams. Know what I see? After a single season, Dan McCarney could lose his next 24 games, and he'd be equal to his predecessor. That's what I see. Know what else? After the 3 opening games, the team played .500 ball for the rest of the season. Know what else I see? Hope. First the first time since I've known of this program. Genuine, legitimate, bona fide hope. For all I care, McCarney could put his half-wit transgendered step-niece under center (assuming adequate academic performance, of course). As long as the wins keep increasing, I'm all good.2 points

I don't know...in this picture he looks more like a central midfielder...or maybe a third-line defender in hockey. Long-reliever? Art appreciation is hard.2 points

Thank you for researching and writing this report. As you know, I was friends with TD and even though his time here was a let down, it is often portrayed that he didn't bring in any contributing players. That's just not true. Many were young, too many at the same position and some left before reaching their potential, but there were also some solid players. TD struggled to get the DT's that you must have to win on defense, but all teams are looking for DTs. This is especially true for "smaller named" schools. If you are a beast at DT, then all the big boys want you. And to make it worse, there just aren't a lot of guys that go 6'3+, 275+ and can run! I believe this is a position you must build at a smaller school (taking underweight guys and building them up over 2 years) until you've proven yourself. See TCU... I'm looking forward to seeing how Coach McCarney does in bringing in and developing this most crucial and difficult to find position.1 point

Really? For a player that shot .405 over all, .254 from beyond the arc, and made only 57% of his FTs. He did get 7 boards a game, but compiled all of these numbers in a lesser conference. I think questioning his playing ability, especially whether he was too big a risk to take when factoring his abilities is certainly fair. Stats from ESPN1 point

I really hope that we come prepared for this game and play to our potential. Like the fan behind me said last night JJ always plays down to the other teams level instead our letting our guys go out there and dominate the floor.
