  1. (For those who want to skip through the five pages- here is a summary.) SMU fan- My penis is ten inches. UNT fan- Just because your parent's genes gave you a ten inch penis does not make you better. I worked hard to get my eight inch penis and measure it accurately, your ten inch is actually seven inches.

  2. So that means the Jewish God is different from the Christian God?

  3. In the small town where I grew up, you used to hear that a lot. Especially from the Church of Christ. But you also heard it from every variety and/or brand of Baptist church that sat on every other corner of the town....and surrounding countryside. "My God is different from your God" is also (sadly) good for business. And a very lucrative business it is.

  4. Now that this is in the Eagle's Nest, I'll chime in once here, then hang up and listen. Alot of people believe as you do. As a matter of fact, I'm sure if you press alot of Americans, they would come to this same conclusion... even ones who profess to be Christian/Muslim/Buddhist/any other religion. The truth is, if you dig into any of the texts (Bible/Koran/Pali Canon/etc...), or inquire with a minister for each religion, you'll find this ideology to be out of the question: A purely man-made, secular idea. And, there are plenty of secular places of worship out there as well. Jesus professes to be God incarnate. There aren't many others who also profess this. Muhammad does not, Buddha does not. None of the major religions have this caveat other than Christianity. To use the age-old term: Jesus is either a Lord, Liar, or Lunatic. That is a question for everyone to answer on their own. A Christian's job (Mat. 28:19) is to share the Gospel with everyone. This is offensive to many people. Hence, either the Christian backs down and does not follow through on this command and is praised as tolerant by secular society, OR that Christian acts on this command and is disliked by secular society as being offensive/intolerant. Now, don't get me wrong, there are MANY Christians who do this in a way that is overly offensive (i.e: the dude who preached fire-brimstone in the free speach area on campus when I was there '00 - '05), and there are "Christians" who are just flat-out, NOT CHRISTIAN. (i.e: Westboro Baptist Church, Robert Tilton, this is a long list...) Tim Tebow is doing a fantastic job of following through on his command (He's not a fantastic QB though, and the option-style offense will definitely be exposed if they make it to the playoffs, IMHO). I agree with Kurt Warner's quote above, and I think St. Francis said it beter: "Share the Gospel always. Use words when necessary." Actions speak louder than words, correct? So as long as Tebow is not living a life contrary to what he's saying, then I think he's doing as Christ instructed him. Now, as far as the whole planking/owling/Tebowing thing? I never got into that. Am I old? Oh no! But, if you whippersnappers are having fun doing it, then by all means...

  5. Good analysis Harry. Only one player, Brooks, did not pan out. And maybe two if Greer doesn't resurface. At worst only two from the 2011 signing class. I could be wrong, but that seems to be fewer "dropouts" than in previous classes. Regarding Lemon, think about his accomplishments. True freshman started all 12 games, no penalties, and made All Sunbelt. Mark it- Barring injury and continuing on the same trend, Cyril Lemon will be UNT's next All-America by his Senior Year.

  6. Just want to see what people think of this. Black athletes have been invoking god in interviews, post game, pre game, random interviews, etc for years and years, and people have always been quick to deride this. Now all the sudden this white kid writes John 3:16 on his eye black stickers and he's the second coming?

  7. Great thread, Harry. The stat I heard the other day about Lemon is the most impressive stat I've heard in quid a while. Zero penalties the whole year as a starting true freshman. Pretty amazing. If he carries that discipline over to off season workout and improvement, look out Sun Belt next year. I also like the fact that Coach Mac was able to redshirt half the freshman class (someone tell Vito that there WAS some talent left over from the Dodge days). I would love to see this remain as a pattern during Coach Mac's tenure. Next year should be very interesting.

  8. Islamist are not true Muslims. These are the super duper extreme radicals. They're a disgrace and all need to die. Not really sure what your point was in posting these links.

  9. I understand what Jesus said...but one doesn't have to believe everything the book says...I don't believe everything in the Koran...other folks from other faiths don't believe everything either. In my opinion time and society evolves...these things were written/said at a time that circumstances probably dictated this type of bold sayings. That said the point I am trying to make is that there are a lot more similarities of the religions than one wants to believe. The claim that my god is different or better than your god...it is just something I personally cannot accept. And we're in a time now that there is so much information out there to be educated not only through literary avenues but to actually see first hand people of different faiths and see what great things each religion has to offer. At the end of the day we're all just humans. You're right and to those Muslims that say and think that I think they're knuckleheads as well. There are a ton more Muslims that think like me as well as there are folks from other faiths that do the same. Ultimately I am just trying my best to be a positive ambassador of my religion. While I'm no expert or scholar of Islam I do know that there are a lot of ignorance and preconceived notions about us(which is understandable) and if I can enlighten folks that don't know much about my faith or don't truly know Muslim people other than what you see on the TV then I try to take advantage of that opportunity and try my best to educate someone. We are fun loving peaceful people and like I said earlier in this thread that it is very unfortunate it is those douchebag extremist fanatics that give the whole religion and Muslim people a very bad name to us.

  10. I think your comments are spot on. This class could really turn out to be one of the best in recent memory especially if the redshirt players produce like expected. This class and the current 2012 class could really turn this program around.

  11. I will agree that different religions share certain desires and goals. But the fact that their "routes are different" is nothing to shrug off. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by Me" (John 14:6). Jesus claimed to be the exclusive route to God and to eternal life. So while someone may believe he is on the road to God and eternal life, Jesus effectively said, "If you're not on My road, you're going the wrong way" (cf. Matt. 7:13-14). Nothing personal, but I would also have to say that your view as a Muslim is not typical of Muslims. I've had some good Muslim friends in the past, and we would have good religious conversations (I'd have to travel a long way to find a Muslim where I live now). And they were convinced that it was blasphemy to say that Jesus is the Son of God or that Mohammed is not a prophet. And they certainly believed that one had to be a Muslim to be pleasing to the one they believed was God. While we obviously disagreed, I appreciated their honesty with me. Logically it follows that if there is one God (a point on which I assume we agree), it follows that He alone holds the prerogative of setting the terms of access to Him. It does not lie with us to derive new and different ways to Him, but to discern which is the correct way. Sorry to further derail the thread (if it was ever on the rails in the first place), but I thought you said some things that needed a response.

  13. Tebow isn't squatting on others property, creating a mess, confronting police, raping, overdosing, or blocking hard working everyday Americans from getting to their jobs, which just happen to be in a bank. A pretty terrible analogy, don't you think?

  14. So you are saying a Christian standing up for his beliefs is not as courageous? Funny how what you consider courageous lines up exactly with your political beliefs. I guess if you disagree with them, they can't be courageous, right?? Hence the double standard in today's society. For the record, Tebow's constant religious references does get on my nerves, also, but I admire the guy for sticking to his beliefs. I'm sure he has been under emmense pressure from his agent, Denver PR staff, his PR person, and many others to tone it down. Nice to see someeone sticking to their beliefs.

  15. The whole thing is weird from the get-go. I really think Big XII is going to pick up two more before July 1 and I would bet Louisville is team #11. I just don't know if Cincinnati, Rutgers or South Florida is team #12. This all has the makings of getting messy.

  16. That '09 class was a program killer...everyone knew we had lost some kids, but when you look at it on paper you realize what a hole NT was in. When you only essentially sign 5 HS recruits in '09, it is no wonder why we had such depth issues this past year. Wow...that class really hurt the program in a ba way. It makes it all the more amazing to see what Mac and his staff were able to do this season!

  17. Another great thread. This just highlights the lack of a recruiting plan for the last couple of years entire Dodge era. It is so nice to see a long term plan not only in place, but already starting to pay some dividends.

  18. If UT continues down the current path, I can see the 2014 UT game being competitive. Please let Mac (I do less with more) Brown hang around that long.

  19. I wish I could agree about winning a few of those SEC/Big XII games. There is a huge difference in playing LSU, Alabama, UT, and OU (as we do), and playing Ole Miss or Texas Tech. I don't have a problem playing SEC/Big XII games, I just wish sometimes we would play one that isn't ranked in the top 5.

  20. I agree - we should be at least 7-5 next year - going to a post season game.
    1 point
  21. Plenty of contributors which is great but in addition I see 4 difference makers 3 of which are FR. I expect the next class to be even better with a full year to recruit. You stack a few of these classes on top of each other and we have a contender in the Sun Belt. Yes, I said contender because the Sun Belt is getting much more competitive. This already is fun to watch and will only get better. In a few years we might just see us win a few of those SEC/Big XII games we schedule. We should be competitive when we start our series against that Big East team from Dallas.

  22. Nice analysis... Brooks seemed to have some real potential... that was a HUGE bummer. I like how you left it open ended for him to possibly resurface. that would be nice, but I'm not holding my breathe. Our O-line looks to be in good shape for the next couple of years. 1 played every game(?) and 4 others redshirted plus cam feldt? wow man. That should be a lot of beef to come in and provide lots of competition and depth. Maybe we can get Vito to stop referring to QB at UNT as being the most dangerous job in America... and of course, turn the next crop of RB's into stars! we shall see about the rest of the d-line recruits. I wonder if any of these DE's will end up being DT's. Interesting...eat boys eat... I am very interested to see where cooper jones ends up on the team. Intriguing size and all...and rated well out of high school. Guess we'll see... spring football story lines

  23. Yes, it's a 6 or 7 year old NCAA rule. That's why the Sun Belt had to let Louisiana-Monroe in as a full member in 2005. Prior to that ULMo was a full member of the Southland Conference that was allowed to play FBS football in the Sun Belt. The Big East shows less interest in ECU because of market. This last expansion had CUSA candidates in Orlando, Dallas, Houston and Mayberry. Which school was left out, and why?
    1 point
  24. The correct answer is they have 16 all sport members, I was just poking fun at leaving out Hawaii. The MWC isn't going to get an auto-bid. The MWC/CUSA merger is going to be in all sports. HI is going to become a full member. The Big East is looking for another "western" school and not a football only ECU. Our chances for the last spot in the merger are alive.

  26. why not? a number of conferences have added members for football only. is this a NCAA rule? just asking.also, still wondering why Big East shows no interest in ECU as a football only member.
    1 point
  27. Hawaii is a football only member of the MWC, they parked the rest of their sports in the Big West. They cannot be counted towards the 8 member statute.
    1 point
  28. I totally disagree. ECU has support more like a BCS auto-bid school should than many of the schools that currently enjoy the BCS auto-bid benefits.

  29. If I'm not mistaken you've stated that you're a minister for a living so perhaps regardless I'll most likely be talking to a wall anyways. My personal view is that these these groups/religions are all the same. At the end of the day they're all trying to get to the one peak of the mountain and each group are just happening to go a different route to get there. I believe in Jesus, Moses, Mohammad, Buddha, Hindu gods all the same way as I refuse to believe they're all that different or one is right and the other is wrong. They're all beautiful but the problem is how people interpret it can really eff things up. I've been and seen all sides of the equation so I know from personal experience that all these religions are a hell of a lot closer than people want to believe.

  30. "That will cut the C-USA–MWC membership to a number of 16 in 2013, but both Thompson and Banowsky are open to adding more teams. C-USA will likely have nine teams at that point with the Mountain West featuring seven. Groth said the alliance will have the options of forming an east and a west division or potentially breaking up into four divisions. “I think that’s what makes this exciting and doable for all of us,” Groth said. “We have many options and any of them could work. Right now, we have 17 or 18 teams out there. That’s nice that we’re not dealing with seven or eight.” So help me out here. How is the merger at 16 teams? MWC = WY, AF, CO St, UNLV, NM + Fresno St, NV, HI that's 8. CUSA = So Miss, ECU, Marshall, UAB, Memphis, Tulsa, Rice, UTEP, Tulane, that's 9. This post has been promoted to an article

  33. The struggles of this team are very similar to what U of H is going through. They have alot of young athletes that can't close games and have a tough time shooting from the outside. This team will continue to struggle on offense w/o a bona fide outside threat. That is what separates the top programs and the rest...they have athletes that can drain the 3 ball....while others have athletes that can just get to the rack or look good on fast breaks. Williams wants to be that threat but his smooth jumper is erratic at best. He really reminds me of a young Scottie Pippen. Really nice defender and athletic, but the jumper took a long time to develop. When the offense bogs down I think we need to continue the high pick and roll 30 ft from the basket w/ Jones and whichever big. It worked against Tech and worked last night...we just didn't do it soon enough during our long scoring drought. Mitchell is very athletic but he is a dime a dozen in the NCAA. Go around to the top 75 teams and I can assure you they have an athletic 6' 8" with no jump shot. All of you that want to talk NBA are wasting your time. The show requires guys his size to be able to knock down 15ft jumpers and have nifty post moves. Look at Renaldo Balkman and Jordan Hill...both 1st round players that are complete busts. You have to be extremely special to just come in and be a Ben Wallace type. I'm not saying Tony can't develop it...I'm just saying lets give him time to get his conditioning and see where it goes. I hope he is smart enough to realize that he needs to stay and work on a ton of stuff before he starts dreaming of the big leagues. You are nowhere near NBA ready when you are the 3rd or 4th best player on the court on a night like last night. BTW, the crowd looked & sounded great on the much improved Mean Green Premium.

  35. I'll be surprised if it's anything other than a roadmap for achieving the requirements for Tier 1 status. Though if it is a good and workable plan to do so, that is certainly something worthwhile to have. I used to be a lot more concerned about NT's dismal status in football than about the academic reputation. I really studied the academic rankings this year as I have a HS senior. We are in much worse shape from that perspective. Of course I have also recognized the connection between the two and I believe the sports competition is one way of generating interest that can open pathways to increasing the endowment. A few years ago I tried matching my support to athletics with equal donation to academics. It was painful and I hate to say there is once again imbalance. However, that should be a goal for any supporter of NT's sports programs. I am sure many though are even exceeding such a goal and I hope to get there too.

  36. Im not one to defend Talons right now, and I'm pretty sure Emmitt won't be either, however, in response to your question; The Talons do come to the games. I thought it was the Greeks who weren't showing? As to the photo, Not really sure how it is supporting the university. As for MeanGreenBaby, if you're getting butthurt about this thread and aren't going to the LSU game, then maybe your screenname is accurate. On Tebow, I'm not sure what is with all of the hate. I think alot of it is that people hate him because they are jealous that he has the courage to stand up for his beliefs.

  37. Like the photo. Not sure what everyone is upset about. Oh, emmitt, at least the Greeks show. Where are the Talons? You know, the official spirit group that gets funds from the university to do nothing.

  40. Yeah, I guess that kid forgot to wear his Florida jersey while he took the picture. Or a nice Longhorn jersey. Everybody always complains about how there's a lack of school spirit in Denton. Yet when someone makes an attempt at doing something cool (At least give the guy props for paying tribute to Fouts), everybody starts moaning. I was planning on coming back into town to root for Williams, Jones and Mitchell whoop up on LSU, but I think I'll stay home now. There's probably a good Big 12 game on. Or I'll try to live stream some SMU women's basketball.

  45. Lifer, Seriously you need to get over it. You're making yourself look like the UNT equivalent to the few SMU douchers on their board. As for your BMW comment...seriously? Stereotyping a bit much? If parents want to buy their kids BMW then let it be..why the hate? I and many of my friends were fortunate to get things like that growing up but we're all just a bunch of normal people.....we got our degrees earn money and life is moving on. Just the way you label those people as thinking their superior...frankly it's hard for them not to think how much jealousy and hate you seem to indicate to them when saying all that nonsense. Most of the SMU folks I know are great and very complimentary to not only UNT but other people and circles of life as well. And if a couple of SMU douchers on their board fulfill the stereotype then we don't need to retaliate...let's act like the bigger person and stay true humble to ourselves. Unfortunately there are several ignorant and misinformed people on both sides of the spectrum. You just hope we both learn to coexist and respect one another and stop with all this BS stereotyping and labeling.
