  1. I totally disagree. ECU has support more like a BCS auto-bid school should than many of the schools that currently enjoy the BCS auto-bid benefits.

  3. If I'm not mistaken you've stated that you're a minister for a living so perhaps regardless I'll most likely be talking to a wall anyways. My personal view is that these these groups/religions are all the same. At the end of the day they're all trying to get to the one peak of the mountain and each group are just happening to go a different route to get there. I believe in Jesus, Moses, Mohammad, Buddha, Hindu gods all the same way as I refuse to believe they're all that different or one is right and the other is wrong. They're all beautiful but the problem is how people interpret it can really eff things up. I've been and seen all sides of the equation so I know from personal experience that all these religions are a hell of a lot closer than people want to believe.

  4. Most of us older alums thought Melvin Davis, Kenny Williams and Fred Mitchell back in the mid 70's were pretty salty but that was another era. Don't forget Danny Kaspar, He was voted Mr. Mean Green in 77(I think). Current head coach at SFA, but still very proud of his Mean Green roots. I would have said NTSU roots but did not want 5,000 negatives.

  6. Muslims recognize Jesus Christ as a prophet. He's in the Koran. 'Allah' is NOT a 'different' God. 'Allah' just means God in the Arabic language. As far as what you see on TV from those super fanatical Muslims...that is not true Islam and unfortunately it gives us a really bad rap and perception to many. Moses is also recognized in the Koran and is considered a prophet.

  7. I will agree that different religions share certain desires and goals. But the fact that their "routes are different" is nothing to shrug off. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by Me" (John 14:6). Jesus claimed to be the exclusive route to God and to eternal life. So while someone may believe he is on the road to God and eternal life, Jesus effectively said, "If you're not on My road, you're going the wrong way" (cf. Matt. 7:13-14). Nothing personal, but I would also have to say that your view as a Muslim is not typical of Muslims. I've had some good Muslim friends in the past, and we would have good religious conversations (I'd have to travel a long way to find a Muslim where I live now). And they were convinced that it was blasphemy to say that Jesus is the Son of God or that Mohammed is not a prophet. And they certainly believed that one had to be a Muslim to be pleasing to the one they believed was God. While we obviously disagreed, I appreciated their honesty with me. Logically it follows that if there is one God (a point on which I assume we agree), it follows that He alone holds the prerogative of setting the terms of access to Him. It does not lie with us to derive new and different ways to Him, but to discern which is the correct way. Sorry to further derail the thread (if it was ever on the rails in the first place), but I thought you said some things that needed a response.

  9. Now that this is in the Eagle's Nest, I'll chime in once here, then hang up and listen. Alot of people believe as you do. As a matter of fact, I'm sure if you press alot of Americans, they would come to this same conclusion... even ones who profess to be Christian/Muslim/Buddhist/any other religion. The truth is, if you dig into any of the texts (Bible/Koran/Pali Canon/etc...), or inquire with a minister for each religion, you'll find this ideology to be out of the question: A purely man-made, secular idea. And, there are plenty of secular places of worship out there as well. Jesus professes to be God incarnate. There aren't many others who also profess this. Muhammad does not, Buddha does not. None of the major religions have this caveat other than Christianity. To use the age-old term: Jesus is either a Lord, Liar, or Lunatic. That is a question for everyone to answer on their own. A Christian's job (Mat. 28:19) is to share the Gospel with everyone. This is offensive to many people. Hence, either the Christian backs down and does not follow through on this command and is praised as tolerant by secular society, OR that Christian acts on this command and is disliked by secular society as being offensive/intolerant. Now, don't get me wrong, there are MANY Christians who do this in a way that is overly offensive (i.e: the dude who preached fire-brimstone in the free speach area on campus when I was there '00 - '05), and there are "Christians" who are just flat-out, NOT CHRISTIAN. (i.e: Westboro Baptist Church, Robert Tilton, this is a long list...) Tim Tebow is doing a fantastic job of following through on his command (He's not a fantastic QB though, and the option-style offense will definitely be exposed if they make it to the playoffs, IMHO). I agree with Kurt Warner's quote above, and I think St. Francis said it beter: "Share the Gospel always. Use words when necessary." Actions speak louder than words, correct? So as long as Tebow is not living a life contrary to what he's saying, then I think he's doing as Christ instructed him. Now, as far as the whole planking/owling/Tebowing thing? I never got into that. Am I old? Oh no! But, if you whippersnappers are having fun doing it, then by all means...

  12. Watched and taped (yes, I still do VHS with my combo DVD TV) the game and IMO the best collection of talent in North Texas basketball history which our Rivals 5 star "future star" ,ie, Tony Mitchell makes happen. Most of us older alums thought Melvin Davis, Kenny Williams and Fred Mitchell back in the mid 70's were pretty salty but that was another era. May this team take us to to places unseen and make some of the media lose all this "little ol' North Texas" talk and I assure you if this team does what most think it can, there will be DFW media jumping on the Mean Green and Johnny Jones bandwagon effect. Sorta' funny how winning at a higher level seems to create that effect in a major sports markets. '

  13. I can go with that.. Benz rides like a tank, holds a straight line on its own, rarely needs readjusting. BMW is much more responsive, so it wiggles more on the road. Porsche holds a straight line without sacrificing responsiveness, but they get you on the creature comforts that come standard with Merc, and Beamer. I maintain Porsche is a race car in street clothing, perfect blend of the the aforementioned two..

  16. its odd that they are agressively campaigning for Big East admitance while at the same time demanding more east coast schools in CUSA. don't know how much creditability that gives them during MWC/CUSA merger talks scheduled for january 15th.

  20. --C.James might win the GOP nomination... remember this state elected Perry as Gov. (this years "Bum Steer" (again)) who has made so many insane comments that he is an embarrassment to the state including refering to American Revolution occuring in the 16th century. (1776 in 16th century?). I am sure Perry got the support of most educators in the state for this award [considering his knowledge and that he unemployed 1000's of them]. James might lose the TxTech vote though which Perry likely won..

  25. Lame...you obviously are not aware of the crap people take for "showing" publicly their support for their beliefs such as Tim Tebow does. I have respect for anyone...any belief set...that has the courage to stand up (in a proper way) for that belief set. If you don't think it takes courage for Tim Tebow (and others) to do this, you might want to leave the house more often. Give it a try in a crowd of say...200-300 even and see what it gets yoyu...maybe at the mall....might change your attitude a bit.

  27. Yeah, I guess that kid forgot to wear his Florida jersey while he took the picture. Or a nice Longhorn jersey. Everybody always complains about how there's a lack of school spirit in Denton. Yet when someone makes an attempt at doing something cool (At least give the guy props for paying tribute to Fouts), everybody starts moaning. I was planning on coming back into town to root for Williams, Jones and Mitchell whoop up on LSU, but I think I'll stay home now. There's probably a good Big 12 game on. Or I'll try to live stream some SMU women's basketball.

  28. I was just told by Thomas Sitton, the Head Coach/AD at Chapel Hill High School (just outside of Tyler), that UNT has offered three of its soon-to-be seniors: Rex Rollins - running back Andrew Tucker - running back and brother of Matthew Tucker, back at TCU Sir Calvin Wallace - a defensive lineman (tackle, if I remember correctly) So where is the connection from Chapel Hill to UNT? I quote from his email to me: "Coach Jeremy Loyd our WR coach played for Coach McCarney at Iowa State and just loves him". What got me started on this was the item in Vito's Blog today that said Chapel Hill was a stop on UNT's summer camps schedule (little ole Chapel Hill, a country, 3-A school among all of the big communities mentioned in the blog) - so I emailed Thomas and asked for details of when the camp would be at Chapel Hill. Wednesday, June 15 4 - 8 PM Sitton will have some athletes in the next few years that are going to be something else. Hopefully, our Mean Green get their share.

  29. Front page of the Star Telegram this morning. VATICAN CITY — Pope Benedict XVI issued pleas for peace to reign across the world during his traditional Christmas address Sunday, a call marred by Muslim extremists who bombed a Catholic church in Nigeria, striking after worshippers celebrated Mass The assault on the Catholic church left 35 dead in Madalla, near the Nigerian capital. A failed bombing also occurred near a church in the city of Jos, followed by a shooting that killed a police officer. The blast came a year after a series of Christmas Eve bombs in Jos claimed by Islamist militants killed 32. Rick

  30. Recognizing someone as a prophet does not equal recognizing someone as Deity. Muslims do not recognize Jesus Christ as Deity (they firmly disavow it), Christians do, therefore the two groups do not worship the same God.

  35. You people... Many thousands of sports fans who have never heard of Tony Mitchell now know who he is, that he plays for North Texas, and were encouraged to come to Denton tonight to see him take on LSU. Why the f would you complain about that?!?

  36. Was Paige with him? You openly wondered why people didn't respect your basketball opinion...this is why. One of the dumbest things I've read on this board...and seriously, that takes work. You go 2-3 because your opponent is considerably bigger than you and/or you've little regard for their outside shot. The 2-3 prevents entry passes to scoring positions in the post...it's down-sides are that it will eventually lead to an open perimeter shot (which LSU wasn't hitting) and the lack of a man block-out assignment which creates easier offensive rebounds (which LSU killed us on). To think the 2-3 shuts down a team's perimeter game may well be the dumbest sports point ever.

  37. Also...the zone was good and did it's job...the team just couldn't finish it out with defensive rebounds. Hamilton and O'Bryant could get whatever they wanted against man defense...the zone forced Turner and Hickey and Bass to jack up shots which I'd live with all day long...LSU just imposed it's size and beat the zone on second chance points. They're simple bigger and thats why they won.
