This is why Aaron Rodgers is better than Tebow in every way. But you know, I'm just a Christian who finds a lot of what his father Bob Tebow stands for creepy and intrusive, so what do I know? I mean, it takes a bold man to walk into a country (the Phillipines) that is 80% Catholic/Christian and tell the world no one on that island has ever heard of Jesus or religion because it's not the flavor/spice combination he prefers. It does take courage and brashness to do what he does, but it would also take a level of courage for me to wear bottomless chaps to tonight's basketball game. Both are pretty solid attention-grabbers and we would be better off without either one. As many contradictions as the bible contains, there are several places it directly says "hey, tone it down, showboat." I'm good with that sentiment. Also, this should end well.5 points

Like the photo. Not sure what everyone is upset about. Oh, emmitt, at least the Greeks show. Where are the Talons? You know, the official spirit group that gets funds from the university to do nothing.5 points

I have been to the Jackson St. and Grambling games, and on the way up Tuesday we passed a little place called Mr. Frosty. I am sure many of you are famililar with this establishment, but being new to the "mean green scene" this was my first experience. Needless to say - my chili cheese burger and root beer float were fantastic. UNT then went on to win by 42 points, including an alley oop almost 360 dunk by Tony. I believe I will frequent Mr. Frosty again tonight, and if UNT defeats LSU my diet will most likely suffer for the good of the team when I travel to remaining home games. Mr. Frosty and UNT hoops - Let's Go!!4 points

100% bandwagon UNT fan here, and I am having one of those mornings where I cant concentrate at work due to the building excitement for a basketball game tonight. In past years this feeling has occurred for teams such as Baylor and Texas, the Mavs, Rangers, and Cowboys. But TONIGHT North Texas has a chance to make a statement. and I will be honest, I want Tony Mitchell to personally make a statement to the nation. Chris Jones is a real player as well. One Dallas bball insider told me he was the steal of the 2011 class in Texas. He looks like it so far. LSU over Marquette raised the stakes. UNT can benefit from that with a big W tonight at the SUPER PIT. LETS GO MEAN GREEN!!4 points

Maybe we'd all be better off by praying in private like the Gospel recommends and get back to talking football on this site.4 points

So we should admire Tim Tebow for standing up for his beliefs? That's great, but how many people who admire Tebow would extend the same respect to the Occupy protesters for standing up for theirs? Everybody hates it when people who don't agree with them get loud with their opinions. It's the American way.4 points

I'm sure you are not alone among those who would heap praise upon someone for doing anything other than celebrating a christian faith. If he were espousing atheism or Muslim faith, there would be a thousand articles about how brave he is to do this in that environment, but because it's Christianity, he is derided and made fun of by media and even other players. To me, he IS doing the most courageous thing by showing his Christianity. Funny that people don't see the double standards in today's society.4 points

This thread is honestly pretty pathetic and sad. I wish that some of our fans here at UNT would grow up and get over the comments that might have hurt their feelings. Move on already. Let's transfer holding so much hatred towards SMU for something that most of the people affiliated with the school can't even control. Some of the UNT fans on this board actually act pretty childish when it comes to the SMU situation if you ask me. Yes, this includes you UNTLifer.4 points

Christians have to work really hard to feel persecuted in this country. Kudos to you for putting in the effort. I like Tebow a lot -- he's from where I live in Florida and I've been hearing great things about him since he was 16. But he's not mocked for being a Christian. He's mocked for being such a relentless promoter of his religion. Even Kurt Warner thinks he should tone it down: "I'd tell him, 'Put down the boldness in regards to the words, and keep living the way you're living,'" Warner said. "The greatest impact you can have on people is never what you say, but how you live. When you speak and represent the person of Jesus Christ in all actions of your life, people are drawn to that. You set the standard with your actions. The words can come after." http://www.azcentral...bow-advice.html3 points

It would take much more courage for the viewing public at tonight's game. This would drive most to spontaneous prayer in whatever religion they practice.3 points

Nice stereotypical response to put an exclamation mark on UNT90's point. See, the funny thing about America today is that we are told to be sensitive to people in the minority and to celebrate diversity, yet the same people that preach this are the first to criticize a Christian for sharing his faith publicly.2 points

Eventually athletes are going to figure out what the word transfer means on this site. You think they and their parents will enjoy being called transfers? I wouldn't attend a school who's fans called me a transfer.2 points

I think once he's in full game shape we'll see Tony Mitchell play about 30 minutes a night...I think he starts at the 4, but will probably see time, especially in closing games with either Franklin or Holmen at the 4, at the 5...maybe about 10-15 minutes a night. That leaves about 25-30 for the troika of Niko, Zo and Ked. None of those 3 have showed much consistency to speak of...however they have all had solid games and can all contribute. Ked was great last year as the secondary post option and may well excel in that role next to Mitchell through conference. Zo brings toughness and energy for short bursts and he seems comfortable in that role. Niko is the most offensively skilled of the three, but seems to lack strength and toughness on the defensive end. Having 3 experienced essentially bench players to choose from up front is a great luxury. I doubt anyone really separates from the pack, but I'm more than comfortable with a big-man by committee...one night Ked may drop 8 and 8, the next Niko may knock down a few 3s and the next Zo might throw down a few dunks, rip 10 boards and bitch slap LaRon Dendy.2 points

I agree.. when I have seen us play at home on tv it looks like there is literally no one at the stadium because of the way the seating is done! Let fans get closer to the action and really bring that excitement factor! The basketball team is 10 times more exciting then the football but the atmosphere is just a dud. The Pep band is great!!!!! But we really need some nice music blaring through decent speakers...2 points
-
A few things I noticed @ the Jackson St. game, first off, the seats are too small. I am 200 pounds and it was difficult to get comfortable in those seats, can't even imagine what it would be like for someone bigger. The stadiums needs a drastic renovation. They need to gut the press seats, eliminate the bar around the court, put in seats closer to the action, there is absolutely nothing along the east/west walls at the top, why not put in a couple suites? Obviously, sound is terrible, and there's two video boards the size of my HDTV on each side. These things need to be improved because it just looks bad, it's funny how I didn't notice all these things until we had Apogee. If baseball is number one, then basketball stadium renovation needs to be number two. And we need to get these things done ASAP.2 points

I wish we would abandon the slam dunk. I know it's a fan favorite, but we demonstrated several times that a simple layup is more of a sure thing than a dunk. Just steal the ball, run down the court, and lay it in for 2. Then play defense. No need for showboats this far inland. GO MEAN GREEN2 points

Very sad when people clearly do not understand. Points to why this great nation of ours has some of the problems it so clearly faes today. Not sure you know anything about it other than wanting to make light of it. So it goes. Sad. Enjoy your day...some paid for it dearly on Jan. 1, 2008...grandstand my rear end. If pointing out the day is grandstanding, I want to lead the grandstading from this day forward. Pointless to discuss furher2 points

Lifer, Seriously you need to get over it. You're making yourself look like the UNT equivalent to the few SMU douchers on their board. As for your BMW comment...seriously? Stereotyping a bit much? If parents want to buy their kids BMW then let it be..why the hate? I and many of my friends were fortunate to get things like that growing up but we're all just a bunch of normal people.....we got our degrees earn money and life is moving on. Just the way you label those people as thinking their superior...frankly it's hard for them not to think how much jealousy and hate you seem to indicate to them when saying all that nonsense. Most of the SMU folks I know are great and very complimentary to not only UNT but other people and circles of life as well. And if a couple of SMU douchers on their board fulfill the stereotype then we don't need to retaliate...let's act like the bigger person and stay true humble to ourselves. Unfortunately there are several ignorant and misinformed people on both sides of the spectrum. You just hope we both learn to coexist and respect one another and stop with all this BS stereotyping and labeling.2 points

1) Neither Tulsa nor Rice would have anything to do with the Sun Belt. They would drop football first. 2)cUSA won't collapse. As a conference it has more options than MWC or any of the three dwarves. 3) As for North Texas - if we come out of the current reorganization still in the SBC - we lose.2 points

How horrible is life when the Super Pit becomes the inferior facility when comparing basketball with football? I was looking up on Friday, and noticing the absence of a hanging scoreboard though. I'd say that even a basic "Home: Away:" LED display would be nice there. But the 10,000 cushioned chairbacks? That's some premo college basketball real estate there. It's tough watching 48 minutes riding a pine bench. As for audio, for a university with a school of film, radio and television, it seems nigh impossible in both facilities for anybody to wire speakers up to a mic. I wonder if I started going to basketball games if I'd become as fluent in ref signals as I've become in football ref hand signals.2 points

Here's Tulsa's new videoboard at the Reynolds Center. These new amazingly clear LED boards seem to add a lot to the game experience, and it sure would be nice to watch clear replays of some of the monster dunks and amazing assists. Would something like this be a cost effective addition to the Super Pit experience?1 point

I am in no way complaining about the Super Pit as it is one of the better facilities to watch a game in this part of the country. There is just some outdated technology that the university may want to improve; sound system, video boards, and probably most of all, lighting. The current lighting system is far too yellowish and detracts somewhat from the viewing experience. Maybe the Super Pit needs a sponsor.1 point

I sure hope UNT gets its legs and blows LSU out of the Super Pit Thursday. I'll definitely be there to see the action. But, this is a young team trying to find its way. LSU is also somewhat young, but seem to be playing at a bit higher level than the Mean green at the moment. T Mitch has missed some wide open shots and seems to be waiting for the lob pass which hasn't come very often as yet. CJ is doing a good job and Williams and Franklin seem to be gearing it up. BUT, it will still take time. Some of the passes we are seeing should never have been made, some of the shot selections are just crazy and they team has yet to find a set rotation. So, I am hoping that the Mean Green Nation is not expecting too much early on from this group. This is a very special group of players, indeed, and they will definitely achieve some great things together, but it is early...very early...and these guys are really still young and adjusting to the college game. LSU is not Sam Houston State, Jackson State or Grambling and should prove to be a real test for this young squad. Instead of looking for the "highlight reel" play each and every time down the floor they will need to play fundamentally sound basketball on offense...and a team offense...while still working hard on the defensive end. I have been more impressed with the defensive efforts so far than I have the offensive firepower. The offense will come and the defense will get even better. These guys knew they would eventually blow away Grambling...which they certainly did...LSU, well, that's another matter. Let's get a great turnout Thursday night. This is an exciting team and one everyone can be very proud of and super glad they are wearing the green of the Mean Green. The crowds have been pretty decent so far given that the students are out, but they will need all the support we can give them against LSU Thursday...I can assure you that there will be plenty of gold and purple in the Super Pit Thursday. Can UNT win this game...absolutely...will UNT win this game...perhaps....either way, it should be a great game to watch and should help our young team "grow-up" and prepare for the conference schedule. I can't wait for Thursday night at the Super Pit. It's great fun this year watching these young men play for UNT. It's going to be something special indeed...can you imagine what this team will be like in the months and years to come as they mature as college players and get a better feel for their teammates? WOW...just WOW! See you at the Super Pit on Thursday...wear green, be loud and be proud. Let's show our visitors from LSU that UNT is indeed, a team to be reckoned with!1 point

I would settle for the old scoreboard that used to be there. No video, but at least you had the basics without bending your neck and missing play, certainly better than nothing in the center.1 point
-
I agree that a new centercourt board like that would be fantastic. Some have said that there are roof weight bearing structural problems with the concept, but it's hard to believe that engineers can't come up with a reasonably cost effective solution. That old board was a lot better than the mini-boards and weak sound system situation that we have now.1 point
-
I am all for a new scoreboard over the court, painting the brown boards at the top of the stadium green, and finally a new sound system! Not to mention it would be nice if we could take seats all the way to floor and get rid of the green bar and concrete wall just off the court...1 point
