I draw the line at shots taken towards DePaul. My wife is a grad of that wonderful university where the degree means so much more than NT. DePaul is a Tier 1 university and on par with any Ivy League school or Oxford. People from NT could only dream of ever setting foot on the campus let alone attending or watching a sporting event of that most prestigious institution of higher learning! Of course I am mocking the tone of that ridiculous thread on the SMU forum. Although my wife did graduate from DePaul and we were married at the Church on campus. Patrick5 points

Tony Mitchell will single handedly beat LSU so bad that their football team will move down the rankings to #3.4 points

La.Tech I believe is headed to the Alliance and I don't think it is based on market (obviously) nor is it based on any accomplishments they have put forward, nor is it based on their facilities, attendance or any other measure. The Alliance needs a team east of the giant void between UTEP and the rest of the world. La.Tech can be taken without harming a viable conference because the WAC is not viable to remain FBS. It is simply about a warm body that is already FBS that can be taken without harming the MAC or Sun Belt. There are only two reasons that CUSA holds any value for UNT. Rice and Tulsa. The TV deal? It works out to $580,000 per school IF Fox doesn't reduce the money in the wake of losing SMU, Houston, and UCF (three large markets that Fox is strong in). The net dollar difference in the CUSA and Sun Belt deals is $480,000 that works out to roughly a 4,000 tickets per football game with no new donations. Opening Apogee generates more revenue for UNT than the CUSA TV deal and that's if it isn't reduced. If UNT isn't selected. Long-term adding UTSA to the Sun Belt drives nearly the same dollars to UNT as being in CUSA. That's if CUSA doesn't collapse. If CUSA collapses and Tulsa and or Rice gets left behind and one or both become part of the Sun Belt or whatever name emerges, UNT comes out ahead. Amazon isn't in the business of selling Kindles. They sell Kindles because they've got hard numbers showing that Kindle users at least double their spending with Amazon for books and such compared to when they didn't own Kindles. The Alliance and New Big East aren't built around the concept of selling tickets. They are built around the concept of TV dollars. If CUSA tripled their TV dollars that would be $1.75 million. They can make more by increasing ticket sales by $300,000 per home game in football. They are doomed to collapse because they've forgotten they are in the business of selling books and movies and aren't in the business of selling Kindles.4 points

I am all for a new scoreboard over the court, painting the brown boards at the top of the stadium green, and finally a new sound system! Not to mention it would be nice if we could take seats all the way to floor and get rid of the green bar and concrete wall just off the court...4 points

Agree, but I am constantly amazed that establishing anything regarding SMU around here takes 3+ pages. Including establishing that we don't care.3 points

Did that five game winning streak include teams that had Tony Mitchell on it? Didn't think so.3 points

We'll have issues with their size...6'9" 215, 6'9" 250, 6'11" 260 is the front-line they started against Marquette...with 6'7" 230 Storm Warren coming in off the bench. We might be big by UNT standards, but we will be considerably smaller inside against LSU. Also, LSU's leading scorer Andre Stringer has missed the last 3 games with fainting spells (hey Pit Crew, bring a swooning couch for him)...no idea if he'll be back Thursday, just something to keep an eye on. And...the one thing really missing from this thread so far...HAHA...EFF YOU BUZZ WILLIAMS!!!3 points

So if the AD wanted to spend the money to get a video board, the school would tell them no?3 points

The Super Pit is NOT owned by the athletic dept. Hard to spend money on something you don't own.3 points

Then that should be two getting awards as Devante Davis of Baton Rouge Woodlawn also received one for best skill player on the Black Knights. As far as I know, he is still committed to us.3 points

Here's Tulsa's new videoboard at the Reynolds Center. These new amazingly clear LED boards seem to add a lot to the game experience, and it sure would be nice to watch clear replays of some of the monster dunks and amazing assists. Would something like this be a cost effective addition to the Super Pit experience?2 points

The tailgate was great! As I was driving in, I noticed the tailgate and thought I should stop by. I was in a hurry to get with the basketball band, but I figured a few quick bites of bacon wrapped duck was well worth almost being late. Thanks guys! Looking forward to the next tailgate.2 points

How horrible is life when the Super Pit becomes the inferior facility when comparing basketball with football? I was looking up on Friday, and noticing the absence of a hanging scoreboard though. I'd say that even a basic "Home: Away:" LED display would be nice there. But the 10,000 cushioned chairbacks? That's some premo college basketball real estate there. It's tough watching 48 minutes riding a pine bench. As for audio, for a university with a school of film, radio and television, it seems nigh impossible in both facilities for anybody to wire speakers up to a mic. I wonder if I started going to basketball games if I'd become as fluent in ref signals as I've become in football ref hand signals.2 points

So the PAC-12 has filled its quota with USC? I don't think there's any stigma associated with being a directional school. It certainly didn't stop USF and UCF from getting into the Big East2 points

Chase sat thru the whole MTSU game. He and his parents bought a handful of stuff from the gift shop. I'd be very surprised if he backed out2 points

LSU is going to be a tough struggle for this team. They are light years better than last year and we are light years younger. Hoping for the best.2 points

I made the mistake of looking at the recruit's Twitter page . . . and HoopmanX is actually right on that one. Ignorant doesn't even begin to describe it. But if HoopmanX is a booster, that would be a (minor) recruiting violation against SMU.2 points

I think this is great. A few months ago, I was on campus for the first time in many years. Unfortunately, I was not able to catch a game but I did see the very impressive Apogee Stadium and all the other new buildings around campus. The physical aspect of North Texas may have changed but that special atmosphere that was present forty years ago is still there. And this video captures all that is unique and special about our university. Link2 points

To further your analogy....adding UTSA to an already weak and disrespected SBC is like realizing that all the pretty girls are already being taken to prom so you ask the fat ugly girl the night before just so you can say you have a date. No thanks, I'd rather go stag.2 points

More people in that video than showed up to a couple home games...2 points

I love the indignant attitude on this board towards the SBC. Half our fans probably missed prom because they were convinced until the very end that the hot girl was gonna come around.2 points

Tell the TAMU grad that there are grads of TAMU, UT, TT, and KSU that I know who purchased club seats at Apogee. One I know tapes TAMU games when the times conflict and watches the Mean Green live.1 point

It all started in order to get a creditable opponent for the Apogee opener. If Houston insisted on 2012 when they agreed to be our opening opponent then we're honor-bound to keep the away date for next September. It would be terribly expensive to get out of the LSU contract but we may have to bite the bullet. Could K-State be talked into making the return in 2013? If none will acquiesce and we can't afford the buyout with LSU, the we must have the best home game that we can get; certainly not an FCS opponent. We're going to have to realize that the schedule won't be to our liking until we are in a conference with opponents known to our students, townspeople and to a lesser extent, our alumni. We need to buy season tickets and attend games for a couple of years, regardless of who we play. Poor fan support could keep us out of a higher-profile conference and hinder scheduling the known regional teams who would be out of our conference. I'm far less worried about the team that we will put on the field than I am with the attendance for the next two years. We desperately need 25,000 fans who are willing to sacrifice a less than spectacular schedule for the chance at a bigger trough. Hold your nose if you must but step forward and support your university. If you don't the progress of the last year will be lost...perhaps for years.1 point

The Belt will look like fools if we invited LA Tech and they refused again. We don't need them. Ruston is a terrible market, LA Tech has bad support for a bowl team, and I can't see them affording the costs of playing competitive FBS football in the years to come, with a $15 million budget. We don't need more teams.1 point

You know, in football, you haven't even been able to talk about our school being anything above 8th until this year in the SBC. As many have posted, this was a nice message to CUSA that we are included with SMU and TCU (for now) as FBS members. Those two schools have both been invited, joined, found success, and then bolted CUSA--how nice is it to actually tell that CUSA office in town that we want to be like them, which is why we will continue to improve in football. And, oh by the way, our basketball program is better than anything those two ever produced for your conference, which is HIGHLY DEPENDENT on men's hoops (see Memphis, UTEP, and Tulsa as examples). This might very well be the first public salvo that has been fired from UNT to CUSA about deserving membership in their conference. And make no mistake about it, we do deserve it, and CUSA will be making a mistake by not inviting us over to fill the void in the DFW market.1 point

Why are you people so upset about 5 home games? Its not like we built a brand new stadium or something to accommodate more high-profile teams and attract new fans! You people are so delusional!1 point

Me too. There had been murmurs for a while that we were trying to fix it, and then the seemingly (at least to an extent) credible rumors coming out of Houston that we weren't playing them anymore. That makes it even more disappointing. If it means getting out of the Houston game to have another home game, freakin do it. I'm not sure how the Athletic Department does not see this as a priority. How are they going to get anyone not directly affilitated with NT (and some that are for that matter) to buy season tickets when Texas Southern is the only OOC game, and then the Sun Belt. I know we go to see NT play and not the other teams, but that's not how the general public thinks yet.1 point
