I love the indignant attitude on this board towards the SBC. Half our fans probably missed prom because they were convinced until the very end that the hot girl was gonna come around.8 points
-
Obviously, most of the comments are from people either listening to the game or watching on the Internet. Mitchell was great for 1 day of practice, I was amazed he was that good in the first game. He is another level up maybe from anyone NT has ever had. There was a little bit too much going for the "show" playing but NT was solidly in control of this game. Jackson State is a pretty good team, much better than their record. Playing a OC schedule of guarantee games is not going to help any ones record. I predict right now that MItchell will be the MVP of the conference.8 points

You know, in football, you haven't even been able to talk about our school being anything above 8th until this year in the SBC. As many have posted, this was a nice message to CUSA that we are included with SMU and TCU (for now) as FBS members. Those two schools have both been invited, joined, found success, and then bolted CUSA--how nice is it to actually tell that CUSA office in town that we want to be like them, which is why we will continue to improve in football. And, oh by the way, our basketball program is better than anything those two ever produced for your conference, which is HIGHLY DEPENDENT on men's hoops (see Memphis, UTEP, and Tulsa as examples). This might very well be the first public salvo that has been fired from UNT to CUSA about deserving membership in their conference. And make no mistake about it, we do deserve it, and CUSA will be making a mistake by not inviting us over to fill the void in the DFW market.6 points

Was there with friends-we'ver been going since the early 70s. Saw all the Blakely teams. Clearly the most talented player I've seen at UNT. Most recruits we get have heart and develop talent. TM is already there. TM is a quick jumper, with lots of bounce in his step. Makes the defense better by allowing perimeter players to overplay, what you normally see with top tier teams. Improves the offense by causing their defenders to collapse on him. Someone else said he makes it look effortless. Agreed. Has the look of "Never Nervous" Pervus Ellison, who was sometimes accused of less than full effort when in fact he always played hard. Should be a fun season!5 points
-
I didn't see that at all. His talent makes it look effortless. After every small miscue (like missing a free throw)he was telling his teammates my bad. You could see he had the nervous energy burning up some of his stamina but he just plays at an entirely different level and speed. My wife usually gets some great pictures and her camera has a continuous shutter feature, but Tony's solo fast break dunk was so fast all you see is a blur of his head and arm going out of the frame. He is so long and athletic that he blocked a shot after he jumped and was almost back down on the floor. I saw a player that cares more than you could know. He payed his own way for a year, dug in and got the grades too. He looks to be on a mission to prove everyone that ever said he will never make it in college wrong. I am damn glad he is in green while on that mission because being on the other side wouldn't be near as much fun. The guys on the team are having fun too, I have never seen them all stand to watch the last possession before halftime when we are comfortably ahead before last night.4 points

Agreed. I came out of my seat 3 different times watching him just get a rebound. PS. The word "came" was used on purpose.4 points

Not Really. The same posters have a nasty record of finger painting this forum with feces. Maybe they're just seeing what sticks. I have to admit, I'm less inclined to post when dingbats make LBBIQ statements. There's no point in responding. I try my hardest to ignore them. Damn it's hard sometimes.4 points

Dear athlete or athlete's family, please, when preparing for the next few years of your life, do not use any school's message board as a tool to decide your future. Sincerely, Common Sense3 points

No need to take it personal. Frankly I am pretty happy because despite us being NTSU to those few posters and while it seems they're downgrading us and what not they are still taking the time to see what is going on in Denton. Even they're not stupid to think the potential we have. Let's just keep on doing what we're doing.3 points

SMU is June Jones Junck- cheaters and big time eaters of horse meat - their tailgates are blowing in the wind- sweep them aside like the nats that they are - we can beat them at anything3 points

I saw that someone accused him of going half speed. I don't think this was the case. I believe he was just trying to pace himself because he was tired as hell. He's currently not in game shape, which you would expect considering it was his first game(we had several people suffering from cramps in the first few games). This won't last too long, and that's a promise.3 points

You complained about not beating this team by more than 15. That implies we should have annihilated JSU. I guess I feel that for the most part we utterly dominated the game, so I'm not concerned with what the end point spread was. And we shall get much better after they all play together for a few weeks. Mitchell just joined the team yesterday.3 points

+1 Exactly. I guess the downside of a little success this year is that people get tight and lose focus on what used to make this board fun: (1) Bits (2) Dick jokes (3) Uniform talk (4) Tight end talk (5) High school coach talk (6) Basics of running the football on 4th and 1 talk (7) Importance of having a fullback to running the football on 4th and 1 talk (8) Various inboard fights among FFR, Lifer, and Me (9) Rick Villareal talk (10) Attendance/Stadium talk In short, this board used to be, in comparative terms, like The Hardline of message boards. It's now more like Norm Hitzges.3 points

That's pretty counter-intuitive. Most donors would be glad to pay $50 for a ticket plus an EXTRA $50 (or more) contribution if their school makes a bowl game . . . Most do not feel like contributing extra because their school DID NOT make a bowl game.2 points

I don't know the fat ugly girl could just lose some weight and get a makeover. If not you can always score big after the prom and just close your eyes shut and go at it. After all they need lovin too.2 points

If history is any indication, we will be fine at RB. If DMac is as good as advertised, we will be fine on the lines. Good enough to hand the ball of to Plumm.2 points

To further your analogy....adding UTSA to an already weak and disrespected SBC is like realizing that all the pretty girls are already being taken to prom so you ask the fat ugly girl the night before just so you can say you have a date. No thanks, I'd rather go stag.2 points

God I love the Oakridge Boys. Seems like Dale tries to say something more and more and more shocking after the beautiful montage every year. I think last year he told us all that he was a horrible father and his kids hated him. What will he confess next year?2 points

You won't see TM start for at least another week and a half. It would be disrespectful to the players that have been with the team through pre-season workouts and the early season to just throw a guy (even a guy with TM's ability) in the starting lineup after 1 or 2 practices. Not to mention, TM is still working on finding his basketball legs. TM will get progressively more minutes each game. Look for him to have between 25-30 minutes for LSU.2 points

Agree...really nice set up and the bacon wrapped duck and pears looked and smelled fantastic. Couldn't partake, but appreciated the offer, as my bride and I were heading over to the Mean green Room...didn't want to fill up before El Guapo's. ha! Really great seeing so many folks tailgating before a basketball game on a Sunday evening no less. Good chatting with you again, and thanks for being part of the tailgate and offering up those great tailgate goodies. Also...thanks for attending Thursday's Mean Green Happy Hour as well!2 points

I have this tradition I started several years ago, where I keep the same NT cap I wear for gamedays and then switch to another one at a loss. I rotate through the six or so that I own. I am not expecting that many changes the rest of the season.2 points

Thought those boys were too busy shopping on Cedar Springs to have any thoughts. Sad.2 points

I definitely heard it. Also, do people realize that Tony Mitchell has practiced with this team ONE time. I thought he had a great outing. There were things that could be improved, but who has ever had a perfect game. Tony gives the team the interior presence we have been lacking both on O and D. Without a doubt tony had a good game and it was a solid win for the Mean Green. The sky is the limit for this young team. P.S. the alley oop was nasty, which came off of a great steal.2 points

I saw what I needed to. Having TMitch on the floor gives this team the purpose it needed on both ends. When he was in it looked like they had a much better idea of what they needed to do. And CJ looked "free-er", for lack of a better term. I felt like they were figuring things out with him on the floor in only a matter of minutes. Then he (Mitchell) looked gassed. I thought he looked about 60 - 70% in the transition game. Anyone else think so? I've never seen anyone with that kind of hop. And he is so disruptive defensively. Give him a couple games, and this could be incredible. We managed to schedule 3 Tiger teams in the same week.2 points

Is he here now? Then who cares?2 points

Right...because posts like this constitute a considerably higher level of discourse...2 points

Agreed. The purpose of the letter is to position UNT with TCU and SMU as the three big sports schools in DFW, rather than see us lumped in with UTA, UT-Dallas and the other four-year schools in the area.2 points

I don't mean to come off as rude...I really don't...but again, who cares? I think everyone hopes he stays, but before he even plays a game it seems pessimistic and defeatist to be concerning yourself with whether or not he plays out his eligibility. Just enjoy it.1 point

No, the NCAA doesn't sit on its A$$ and delay its decision on whether or not we get to celebrate Christmas.1 point

I'm thinking that has to be an inside joke, or a nickname, or something. If it was for real, surely someone would have told him by now and he would've switched it.1 point

Thanks for the update. I'll be waiting patiently. UNT could really use Justin right about, NOW!!!! Go Mean Green!!!1 point
