  1. Excellent letter. Subtle letter. Hence, the difficulty some GMG posters have in understanding its message.

  3. Way to read the article. But whatever, it's cool to drill on land that you don't have rights or permit to, have illegal dumping issues to solve, have someone drilling with the wrong permit, and laterally drill for that same gas under UNT property and then not hand off some of that money to the university, right?

  4. According to Vito, NT will still play @ Houston next year. He says both NT and Houston confirmed it, which is only interesting, because Houston fans were nearly positive the game had been cancelled. Only 5 home games in the new stadium is 100% embarrassing Buy out of one of the freakin money games. We aren't so broke we need both of them. Give me a freakin break.

  5. It's a great letter overall. Pretending TCU isnt in the Big 12 and SMU didn't just get invited to the Big East is silly. Just acknowledge it and move on. All three football schools in the Metroplex could collectively use more attention than schools 300 miles north or south. The recent achievements of NT are the focus of the letter. This is a better way of gaining attention than some goofy "we demand to be in XYZ conference" statement. It being positive without being stupid.

  7. You know, I hear you, but if it were just questioning that would be one thing...but it is far beyond "questioning"...it is always assuming the negative. That isn't questioning. I would say that many of those on here who are negative all the time have not earned the benefit of the doubt either because everyone knows that they will always assume the negative. They must be joys to be around most the time if they approach their whole life and everything around them the way they approach UNT. And, you don't think Dr. Rawlins has earned the benefit of the doubt? That man has done more in a shorter time to move UNT forward and to show UNT is a positive light than any one human being and certainly any UNT President in a great deal of time. If that isn't 100% apparent to folks, well, they just aren't paying attention or they want to "assume" negativity with all things UNT.

  8. I'm gonna. Besides, we can totally trust corporations to govern themselves. They totally did so below: "Denton police referred the case to the district attorney's office last week, spokesman Ryan Grelle said. They opened the investigation after city employees visited an Eagleridge well site in the 3100 block of Airport Road, about one mile west of the Bonnie Brae site, on Sept. 29 and found a pump forcing contaminated water into a tributary of Hickory Creek, according to a police report." Looks like UNT also some level of mineral rights claim to the area, and it's right across from Apogee. Interesting. But screw it man, those Occupy people showed up, so it doesn't matter that UNT might not be getting money it's owed, that these guys dumped junk into the water system, and that it's going to ugly up the area RIGHT by our gorgeous, brand new stadium.

  10. You know,"down the corridor of years", I've found that well crafted letters can be like poetry and/or art. They can be open to interpretation by the individual reader(s),and they can (and in this case SHOULD) cause people to read the whole document and not dismiss it after the first two sentences. And then afterward discuss it's meaning. As long as we're being discussed, we aren't being ignored. And we've spend toooo many years suffering that fate. I would like to encourage everyone to please join Dr. Rawlins as he takes the high road in his journey to improve our actual, as well as our perceived situation in the metroplex regarding the state of our athletic program.

  15. I really think this at least warrants an explanation, at least to MGC members. This is just unacceptable. It is a step backwards to go back to 5 home games, particularly the quality of games. At least ULM's one OOC home game is Baylor.

  16. Really? My guess would be Mat McBriar. I hear he has been involved in some shady stuff in the past...like kangaroo boxing.

  17. Me too. There had been murmurs for a while that we were trying to fix it, and then the seemingly (at least to an extent) credible rumors coming out of Houston that we weren't playing them anymore. That makes it even more disappointing. If it means getting out of the Houston game to have another home game, freakin do it. I'm not sure how the Athletic Department does not see this as a priority. How are they going to get anyone not directly affilitated with NT (and some that are for that matter) to buy season tickets when Texas Southern is the only OOC game, and then the Sun Belt. I know we go to see NT play and not the other teams, but that's not how the general public thinks yet.

  18. I've been worried about this for over a year. The AD should be extremely embarrassed if they can't get 6 home games next year. Absolutely pathetic

  19. Did you guys read the entire letter? Really good stuff from a really good leader for UNT. I see absolutely nothing negative about it, and am in no way "confused" by this letter to the editor. Come on folks, read it and give it more than superficial thought....

  20. UTA should be UNTA. UT should get out of UNT's region and turn over its campuses to the UNT system. Otherwise we should annihilate them.

  22. Throw the ball to the tight end more. Line up a fullback. Take snaps under center. Alabama, LSU...do what they do. Run on offense, play tough defense. Wait a minute...that sounds like what we did during our four year bowl run early last decade. KA-POW!

  24. Another in a long line of Sooner quitters quits. This kid saw the writing on the wall early, though...he quit after his true freshman year: http://rivals.yahoo.com/Alabama/football/recruiting/player-Brandon-Williams-105895 He got a good bit of playing time this year because several of OU backs quit early in the season, then their walk-on who was the starter got injured. Anyway, he played at OU as a true freshman, and will have four years to play three some someone who has love of quitters. Final 2011 stats 8 games (0 starts) - 46 rushes-219 yards - 4.8 yards per carry - 0 touchdowns Rumors out of Norman that former 4-star RB Brennan Clay may transfer as well: http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Brennan-Clay-79089 http://www.soonersports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/clay_brennan00.html Clay is a true sophomore, so he'd have three to play two if he also leaves the Sooners.

  25. This was in today's DMNews...not the D-RC. FWIW: Only a decade or so ago, excitement for college football in the Dallas-Fort Worth area came mostly from being a fan of a major college team either to the north or south of us. Today, there are plenty of reasons to be excited about teams that are playing successful Division I sports right here at home. Congratulations to TCU and SMU on their remarkable success in advancing to major conference affiliations, providing top quality football. UNT football also is moving forward. With our new Apogee Stadium and a proven coaching staff, we have made significant progress in the past year. All three universities are making remarkable progress competing in other sports. A lot of attention goes to men's basketball, especially at UNT, where we've had five straight seasons with more than 20 wins, resulting in two trips to the NCAA tournament. But there are great athletes playing competitively in almost every sport among the three Division I universities in Dallas-Fort Worth. For all of us at SMU, TCU and UNT, maintaining the quality of our academic programs is the most important goal. Yet offering strong, visible athletic programs is an important part of university success. And it's fun for everyone. V. 29. Please. EVERY SMU home game this year had a student turnout that looked like our WORST turnout (that last game in the rain) and they were just PROMOTED to the Big East.

  30. First, let me say that I personally like this letter and believe that it was the result of careful consideration and planning. Second, and completely unrelated, I'm not sure how many people care about UTA but the quote above is false in many different ways. In the case of my former roomate and 2 of his friends, who loved UNT by the way, they had to transfer to UTA this fall. When they enrolled here in 2008 the engineering department assured them that the mechanical engineering program would be accredited by 2012. Over the summer they found out that their degree program was not any closer to being accredited then when they started. All 3 of them along with many others have been forced to transfer due to the mechanical engineering department dragging their feet on this matter. So for many, UTA is not an " I got rejected from every school but don't want to go to community college" but more like a "I waited for a bigger school to get my degree program accredited and they screwed me when I could have gone to this great engineering school right down the road the whole time" type of school... just sayin

  34. Honestly, it hurts me to think of others in the area having achieved membership in "major conferences", but I really think that is a fact AT THIS TIME. I say that because about a year ago the talk was more "will the Big 12 or Howevermany, or the Big East or Wherever" survive. It appears that they will, but I'm still not certain enough that the "AQ" status will last that long for the Big East to where I would wish our athletes to have those travel requirements (how do college BASEBALL players manage that and a full class load). I'm just putting Rawlins statement down as "hey, congratulations, you other area schools, and thanks for what you've done for college sports in our area, but you conferences that they left, don't forget that we're here and on the improve". Sure, I'd like to see stronger statements, but I don't want to assume the worse because Rawlins' statement was so sparse and conciliatory. There may be reasons for that; we all know the man has held important positions in the NCAA and helped found CUSA, so he may see things we don't. I try to think of our situation as when I was between my last girlfriend and first (and current) wife. It kinda hurt to see others out and enjoying the relationships that I desired and that had eluded me, but I saw them as more similar than different from me, thus showing me that if they could enjoy love and companionship, that I could too. And I do. Oh, and I think it's possible that the geographic footprint of CUSA might make them "the right girl for us".

  37. I'd like to see: 1. More people buying/renewing season tickets. About a year and half ago I was at chamber of commerce event with TCU's AD. When asked what the number one thing people could do to help the program, he said buy season tickets. Season tickets sales are an important number conference look at. 2. Buy/go to basketball games. If you want to impress CUSA, show them you care about your school by buying tickets.

  38. Because those are bad ideas. Occupy CUSA, the campus paper? And what are you reading about "other" schools? What newspaper is publishing LA Tech efforts? Everything written about the CUSA/MWC merger and expansion is mostly obvious. They need to decided if they want to go with all sports, they are waiting to see what the Big 12 and Big East do next.
