Twas the night we’d been waiting for all across Mean Green land. Not a dissension was stirring; the flames of hope had been fanned. His finals all taken, he’d received the appropriate score. It was time for Tony Mitchell to hit the hardwood floor. The Pit Crew was standing; the Alums took a seat, it was time to see if the Mean Green would truly compete With Villarreal in his sport coat and Dr. Rawlins across the court, the crowd was there to see if he was as good as the report When out from the tunnel came two cheerleaders with banners. The crowd noise was excessive, like kids with no manners. The team followed closely with a certain new poise. The fans were predicting some tournament noise. Sitting at court side, glare hardened like stones and dressed in his finest was coach Johnny Jones. More rapid than eagles his players they came, and he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name? There was Jones and Williams and Franklin and Hall, Hogans and Edwards but that wasn’t all. The team was well rounded and if Mitchell did fit, he hoped that this year would finally be it. The crowd was a twitter with anticipatory glee, they had come to see the Mean Green, including Tony. For the end of the story and to come and take stock, December 18th at the Super Pit, tip off - seven o’clock. This post has been promoted to an article12 points

I predict that this board will explode with negativity from those that rarely post on the basketball board if T-Mitch doesn't get a double double.6 points

It's feasible that Tony Michell comes in as a one-man team, giving the other four starters a rest, with no dropoff in productivity.3 points

I truly believe the conditions are ripe for a brand new league to emerge and I would push like heck to be a part of it. This league would be made up of institutions who most likely are not going to be cherry picked by the BE or B12. Most importantly a league of institutions who want to be together, have some history and want all sports to play each other. Some might say, that is what we have in the SBC right now. Agree to a point, but I want more natural rivals, name institutions and elevated programs. UNM stinks in football, but they have a great basketball program. UTEP has average programs but a rich history in basketball. They are also another state of Texas program (Troy is probably as close but Troy is not Texas). Tulsa is close and has a nice history. There is something I just don't trust about the mega league and since none of these programs are going to receive BCS money it is time to get creative, committed and build a league that can thrive for 10 years - ala MWC. The MWC and CUSA are going to take some perception hits and be known as the decimated leagues. It might be time to rebrand and rebuild. GMG3 points

I would rather see him next season... especially with hogans and zo being seniors. Im still banking on T-Mich playing next year as well! We need him next year, not as much this year. He has been sitting on the bench for the team most games already anyway.2 points

Does going to the annual banquet really count as a social function? Let's quit pretending there is inside information. Of course we are lobbying (and so are others). The first thing that has to happen is they have to decide is the merger will be for all sports, then they have to decide if they will let Hawaii in for Olympic sports. These two issues have to be resolved before they can figure out what program(s) to add.2 points

Now that's breaking through the clutter. Maybe throw in some free crazy bread and a 2 liter of coke and then we'll really get something cooking.2 points

i was at an informal social function last week that had Dan Smith, Rick Villarreal, and Lane Rawlings in attendance.i can assure you that " island eagle " hit the nail on the head.2 points

Just when I thought this thread couldn't get more depressing...if its true that we are not playing a game at Houston because we have been replaced by Texas State, then there is no more clear statement on how the more established Texas schools look at us than this scenario. We have played Houston exactly twice since we moved back up to FBS in 1995, both in Denton. We have never been given a return game in Houston. It is not hard to recognize that UH absolutely wants nothing to do with playing us if we have a shot at being good. If we win, its a shocker, but if they win, its no big deal. Now that they (UH) are about to take a step back with their program, their AD replaces us with Texas freaking State. This is exactly what Tech did when Leach got there and they stopped playing us after his first two years and started playing SMU every year, just perfectly timed to when we went to NO Bowls and SMU was doing good to win 3 games. Speaking of SMU, this is exactly what I expect them to do, too, if we get our act together again on the football field. Oh we'll play them a couple of times or more, but I doubt that series of 8 games ever gets fully played out if we are better than them. They'll buy us out early and then schedule UTSA. The more this crap occurs to us, the more it makes me hate college football. And, yes, I totally agree that most of this is due to our own mismanagement of athletics are just accepting the status quo for decades. But it doesn't make it right that we consistently get the shaft with these other Texas schools. I will say this, though. There is another Texas school that is going to feel a huge backlash in future scheduling from the other Texas schools and that is A&M. The other Big XII schools are never going to play them again, and I doubt UH or SMU are going to jump up and down about scheduling them, either in OOC games. Basically, that leaves Texas State, UTSA, UTEP, and Rice for them to play along with us. Maybe that's who we should talk to about scheduling some OOC games with again, maybe those Aggies will appreciate someone from the state actually wanting to play them in a lot of sports. It has to better to try something like this than to just constantly get reminded that all of the other schools in the old SWC are adamantly opposed to playing you in a series or being affiliated with you in a conference. I mean, seriously, what else can we do? Just ignore them back and never schedule them in anything either? Maybe its just a deal where La Tech, Tulsa, NMSU, UTEP, UTSA, and Texas State are the regional teams that we will look forward to playing in OOC games in the future.2 points

He'll have a brace by the 45' break...his first a 30 yard, left-footed screamer in the 16th...his second coming a mere 4' later, deft display of pace and skill as he maneuvers from the half line, through the JSU back-line and into the box, finishing with a clever flick just over a charging Tiger keeper. Mitchell will complete his hat-trick in the 58th with a powerful header off a set piece delivery from Chris Jones and then tack on one more for good measure in the 80th...a bicycle-kick volley that curls into the upper-left 90, reminiscent of Rooney's finish from Nani in last years Manchester Derby at Old Trafford. Just without Rooney's dick-ish-ness, of course.1 point

Dunbar was listed at a 4.49 when recruited, so I will take this 4.51. Love how physical he is when running the ball and blocking.1 point

If LSU doesn't want to open their season with a 40-point loss, they shouldn't schedule North Texas.1 point

Seems like more of a LB/S to me. Not that fast for a RB. Based on his highlights, his level of competition was low. He's only 5-11 but he looked 6-4 in those videos. So that and the fact that it seems like he wants to play rb may have kept some people away. That and the fact he wasnt a rb until this season. Either way he looks like a good athlete, a good kid, and a good get.1 point

I wonder why other programs haven't jumped on board yet... 5-11, 220, confirmed 4.51, benches 350 as a senior in highschool... looks pretty solid to me. Welcome aboard. I'll have to try and watch the highlight videos at home this evening...1 point

I love trout fishing and eating what I catch... EXCEPT WHEN IT COMES FROM THE TRINITY!!!! Can you imagine the culture shock these poor trout endure upon release into the Trinity?? From the cold, clear water of the mountain lake (or, most likely, the stock tank where they were raised) to the mirky filth of the Trinity river bottoms. Is this some kind of punishment for messing up their tank while being raised?? Do the well behaved trout get released into the clear waters of the Guadalupe?? I don't know where the animal rights people are on this, but I can't think of any worse animal torture than what these poor fish will instantly endure when they hit the polluted waters of the Trinity.1 point

Somehow we are straying from the point here... UNT's 3 point shooting is atrocious! Implementing a 1-2-2 zone would not hurt anything and I believe it would help. That is my point and if you look up the goal of a 1-2-2 zone it meets our needs.1 point
-
BUT... I could be wrong... every team runs everything a little bit different. But I believe that implementing the 1-2-2 zone will allow us to at least keep the other teams three point barrage in check...1 point
-
(oh boy... it was just a play with in correct grammar intentionally) @^^^ someone has some learning to do. haha1 point

Thats what I have been trying to say from post one!!! There is more then just the simple 2-3 zone... 3-2, 1-2-2, 2-1-2, 1-3-1 etc and all serve a separate purpose depending on your game plan but all function "essentially" the same way... meaning everyone has a specific spot that needs to be covered... the 1-2-2 allows for defenders to cover the wings and top of the post. You break it form the corners or going baseline which is the way I have seen it broken down a lot before. But even then that gets you into the paint for a post shot or the possibility to kick it back out. But your 1-2 at the top should adjust quickly and cover the perimeter again without a (good) shot being released.1 point

there are more types of zones then the 2-3.... I was not trying to be a jerk by the way.1 point

YESSSS I am so happy he finally decide to take that three.... that is his game. He needs to be a pick and pop person. He sets some hard screens and is good both the 3 ball and taking it to the lane and drawing the foul.1 point
-
I do also not understand why after so many years Johnny does not go to a zone defense!!!!! His teams have never defended the three well and this is the worst! Man to man will get you beat from the 3 point line all day long if the other team plays their cards right.1 point

It has happened before... and then again next year we will just be overloaded and not have great chemistry. That or play a main 6 guys like we did last and sit the likes of franklin niko and patton etc... Having 15 great guys on a team is not always the best...1 point

Im just wishing we had redshirted Norris and Robinson both... but here is too hoping next year we red shirt them along with Overlander. , Lineup: Jones, Williams, Mitchel, Holmon, Niko Bench: Alzee, Walton, Franklin, Patton, Udoh.... a walk on or two.... We have to many players that need more minutes to produce as is this year! A solid 8 to 10 man rotation would really turn the chemistry around. Especially next year!1 point
