Please excuse the length of this final post of many made over two very long seasons. The CH football team has now played 30 games over those past two seasons. Chapel Hill Bulldogs vs. Alvarado Indians – two undefeated teams – played one-another last night and it was quite a game to the complete enjoyment of half of the 22, 748 total fans in attendance. CH won the Class 3-A Division 1 State Championship 20 – 19. For CH it was the 4th of 5 playoff games this year that were not decided until late in the 4th quarter. These were two evenly matched teams that had high-powered offenses coming into the game, and yet the game was a defensive struggle. In the end the game was decided by three Alvarado turnovers (2 fumbles; 1 interception) in the 4th quarter while CH had no turnovers throughout the game. Alvarado was led by running back Wayne Onderdonck who had accumulated approximately 2,800 yards during the season (btw, Alvarado had outscored their opponents prior to this game by a margin of 6 to 1). CH’s defense, for which all three of the Chapel Hill UNT commits play, held Onderdonck to 108 yards on 19 carries, including a 55-yard TD. I have to admit that for this game I watched/enjoyed the team as a whole tonight and paid very little attention to the individual UNT commits. The CH defensive line (certainly including Sir Calvin Wallace who despite being cut-blocked and double-teamed hustled from sideline to sideline chasing down ball carriers) played well, and the linebackers were very active. The offensive numbers for the other two UNT commits: Andrew Tucker – 20 carries for 79 yards and one 11-yard TD Rex Rollins – 10 carries for 32 yards Thanks for reading the CH updates I have sent along the way. Believe me, it has been a great pleasure to have watched this team play for the past two years. Thirty of forty-one players ended their CH career last night. They are a quality, unselfish, group of players who understand the whole concept of TEAM. Add our 2012 commits to CH alum Laramie Lee and UNT has among the best that CH has to offer. This is my last CH game update. -That’s 30-2 points

Banquet was excellent. I would say we had 300+ in attendance, and I can tell you that the room is too small to hold all who would like to have attended. Problem is, there is no place big enough on campus...or in the City of Denton for that matter...to hod the banquet. It may have to move off campus and out of Denton to hold those who would like to attend. RV and Coach mac were great in thanking everyone...and I mean everyone...who helped make the season a positive one and there were thanks aplenty for the seniors who did so much to stay and help build a great foundation for the future. A couple of great videos shown, all lettermen announced, game balls handed out and team awards announced. All in all a very nice evening. A tad long for my liking and I would pay $10 more to have it a plated dinner rather than a buffet line (think moving 300+ people through a buffet line...espevially when you are feeding over 100 college football players. However, even being a buffet it worked well and folks got through the line in about 35-45 min. But, it did add to the length of the event. We were told (by a few athletic staffers) that the banquets will continue to be on the Friday prior to dead week going forward. One interesting tid bit was that Coach mac said all recruiting will be over before Christmas this year...earliest ever that the team will be DONE that early. Pretty good news...i think he intends on signing 25 to scholarships...but that number includes a couple on campus already with scholarships that will count in next year's class. All in all a great evening...I personally got the opportunity to thank several player parents for "lending us their son" and thanking them for their support. Very nice evening., Vito has reported all the award winners already so i won't go into all that....2 points

Or he was 5 years old. Oh sorry, nevermind. You were just looking for another opportunity to have a penis-measuring contest when it comes to loyalty to your university. My bad.2 points

UNT vs. UTSA "Battle of the Birds" But Yeah, I'd take La Tech and UTSA/Utah St.1 point

The reason the Sun Belt is so stable is because no other conference wants a team from it. Plain and simple. It's not like Sun Belt schools are turning down offers from C-USA so they can "build the Belt."1 point

I agree with this argument and duly note it wouldn't be easy. But the WAC is whack and there is no guarantee CUSA is going to expand. Even if they do they may very well not invite us. The MWC ain't an option. You don't like your surroundings? Improve them.1 point

The belt hasnt done enough to make people wanna join... They have 2 bowl games, compared to the Mac and Cusa who have around 5 each.. No one wants to be like WKU who won 7 games and #2 in the belt and isnt playing in a bowl game. Wright needed to retired and bring someone new in who can actually run a conference1 point

How can you call MTSU and Ark State a rivalry? Nobody even knows who they are. I only hate WKU with a passion but, thats about it when it comes to Sun Belt.1 point

This worked really bad for Auburn, Gene Chizik who was the HC of Iowa State and went 5-19 in two years before getting hired on at Auburn..Compared to Kevin Sumlin who went 35-17 at Houston. If you can coach, you can coach at any school from the sec to the belt.. Its all about bringing on the right coordinators and assistants.1 point

He's in the band "Ministry"? Plays bass I presume. I don't know how he's gonna have time to recruit with the reunion tour coming up.1 point

How about announcing the start of a baseball program complete with stadium.1 point

Totally agree. Winning the Sunbelt in basketball (men and Women) would be a great start. Then winning women's softball. After that we really don't have any athletic things to get noticed by the public. Just quickly off the top of my head...participating in spring "events" would be a great way to keep getting noticed. For instance, we should have a float in the St. Patricks parade in Dallas. What could be more natural? Just like the Irish, we love green and we love beer. Thinking outside the box.... maybe the duck pond over by the stadium could be stocked with trout like they do at the Trinity river near Fort worth, and have a family fishing event. Here's the press release for this year. "Trout stocking dates announced Posted 11/28/2011 TRWD and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will team up again this year to host four trout stocking events on the Trinity River in Fort Worth. Below you will find the dates and times: 12/13 Tarrant Regional Water District, Trinity Park 1:00 p.m. 1/4 Texas Parks and Wildlife, Trinity Park 9:00 a.m. 1/5 Texas Parks and Wildlife, River Park 9:00 a.m. 1/19 Tarrant Regional Water District, River Park 9:00 a.m. There will be approximately 2,200 trout released each event." Or maybe a family-like fishing tournament/fishing day up at Lake Ray Roberts. Either of the events would/should be kid friendly. What kid doesn't like to go fishing? And I bet that a lot of the North Texas athletes would be more than happy to help out with the event.1 point

If he is having trouble handling chop blocks , he will have to learn to play with his hands more. Very few big HS linemen, especially ones on the 3 A level, have good hand skills coming out of HS. If he goes against a Lemon or Y'Barboe he will get stoned everytime, no matter how big or strong he is. It will take some time for him to learn this.1 point

Either way Im off to bed... hopefully waking up in the morning and not finding my profile barraged with negatives haha. It was a win tonight... a sloppy win but a win nonetheless. Getting Tony is not going to turn is into a championship team overnight but with time and chemistry we will find ourselves right where we need to be come March... and that is DANCING! And to all of these people stating Patton will never play again... I am 75 to 80 percent sure he was sitting on the UNT bench the entire game and rebounded for the team during shoot around. It has also been revealed to me by two separate sources that he plans on playing next year. Could be true or false but I would not complain seeing him play!1 point

Imagine this 1-3-1 zone D Put T Mitch up front, Patton/Niko & Holmen on the wings & Jordan in the middle( or u could change it up w/ alzee for Jordan to run the point) with Odoh in the paint1 point

I made my wife 2 different list this afternoon: 1 for Christmas & 1 for Tony Mitchell Day1 point

Everything I read describes him as a player that is very gifted athletically for his size. I will be happy if he can score a bit around the hoop. This is bound to open up things outside for the other players. I hope he can scrape off the rust rather quickly. GMG1 point

So why would they add two teams from the east? How would they change their divisions. The 12th spot in CUSA was between UTEP vs. UNT vs. LA Tech, so we know two of the schools are still in the running. We also know that UTSA is on the "short list" which is actually a dozen teams which includes almost the entire Belt. And if Temple was such a catch why did the Big East throw them out? We know market size matters, but so does location, facilities, fan base and level of competition.1 point

I've seen coaches sit their best player for 18 minutes in the first half. You don't want them to pick up a cheap 3rd before halftime.1 point

There will be nine teams in CUSA when SMU, UCF and Houston depart so only three are needed to return the conference to twelve teams. When negotiating TV contracts, larger TV markets are a better sell so that advertisers are happy. Temple is in the fourth largest TV market and North Texas is in the fifth. La Tech is the better program and would be my choice if there are no complaints from the TV network. FIU is in the large Miami market but is a young program that has had attendance problems until recently. Their on-campus stadium only seats 23,500. FAU, whose market is West Palm Beach, also has little history and attendance problems but at least they have a 30,000 seat stadium on their campus and have had two 20K+ crowds since it opened. CUSA is not an original entry conference so UTSA, who is not a FBS program yet, would not be in their radar. Their target should be the Sun Belt, who will take FCS and new programs.1 point
-
Why would CUSA add two teams from the East? It would make more sense to add FIU or FAU in the east. And add UNT and or LA Tech or UTSA in the west.1 point
-
If CUSA would return to 12 by adding Temple, North Texas and say, FAU, they shouldn't lose anything from their TV packet. In fact, they should gain. Basketball would be an attractive part of the package. I don't think that Conference USA has that much of a problem. There are plenty of problems to go around though for the MWC and the Big East. The East, although they had to go 3,000 miles to do it, has saved themselves for the time being. The Mountain West on the other hand has been devastated. They have lost five expected top teams and left with few choice markets. They need CUSA until some of their teams can build back. They're trying to buy time and it appears that C-USA is going along so they have no complaint due. The NCAA is a train wreck and is only going to get worse. There are solutions but until they get the cooperation of Delany and Slive they won't/can't happen.1 point

What a debate, naming rights are not exactly the same as a pure donation. Sometimes they are when Mr. big bucks donates a field house for example; he may want to put his name on it, but that is not the same as American Airlines getting naming rights to the Maverick arena or in NT case, Apogee buying the naming rights; that is called advertising. NT did get its two by far biggest donations this year but neither sent a dime to athletics. NT did get funding for the new stadium with priority seating, Apogee name rights; but overall I was somewhat disappointing that I have not seen any big donations (excluding our generous student voting in the athletic fee) announced for the stadium like apparently UTA has garnered.1 point
