  1. Thanks so much pastor Tasty. I have been abstaining from kettle korn and facing my cubicle north towards the Super Pit. I feel I am ready.

  2. Did something happen with UT refs against North Texas in the past? Anyone have the back-story on this?

  3. Umm...2001-2004 years grew the fan base and set the stage for the capital campaign for the new stadium possible. And to be fair TD made a good spokesperson for the new stadium.

  4. It's not even a request to move a few feet. The protestors surrounded the police in an order to prevent them from passing, unless they agreed to release those they'd already arrested. So this isn't a first ammendment issue. It's an issue of obstructing the police. The protestors attempted to incite a violent response, and the police, instead of arresting more people or removing them by physical force, pepper sprayed them.

  5. Wait.... Did they kill Darwin Cox with pepper spray?!?!
    3 points
  6. People keep blabbering about police brutality and it is ridiculous. If the police told them to move (which they did) and the people didn't move, they deserved the pepper spray 100%. If they had listened to the cops, they would not have been pepper sprayed. Simple as that. If a police officer tells you to do something, just do it.

  8. With 7 or 8 scholarships left to give out what positions are you looking at as areas of need still. Here's a rough breakdown of what we have thus far. This is including the transfers as they count towards the 25 scholarships we have to hand out but do not count towards recruit rankings. 4 DL - Malik Dilonga, Sir Calvin Wallace, Dylan McDorman, Brad Horton 2 LB - Royce LaFrance, Jarrian Roberts 3 DB - Xavier Kelley, Devante Davis, Marcus Trice 3 OL - Cam Feldt, Boone Feldt, Chase Walling 2 WR - Roderick Lancaster, Nick Schrapps 0 RB - 0 QB - 2 Ath - Rex Rollins, Andrew Tucker. I have both listed here as there have been reports that they could end up defensive side of the ball 1 QB - You should take a QB in every class. 1 OL - I think we need one more big ugly to help ensure quality depth. 1 RB - I say we need a rb bc of the possiblities of the CH guys moving positions. Cameron Washington anyone??? 1 WR - We are in need of big time help here. 1 DL - With happened to both DT's from last years class we need more bodies here. 1 DB - We lose the starting 4 here. Need depth. With the final ship I would offer it to the best available. Let's hear your thoughts on areas of need in this class.

  11. I remember in 2007 with 5 minutes to go against ASU in the conference tournament, Mark was stating to tell Mavs fans mid-game he was a little distracted by what his alma mater was about to do. He kept mentioning it during the broadcast and it made me incredibly happy to have two TVs going at once.

  13. Gateway makes sense anyway because there is a key Women's basketball game at 7:30 this evening. It makes getting to the game much easier than if we were at Apogee.

  14. Maybe you, but not me. You don't do what he did publicly. If I had an employee state in the public/media that they were accepting a job with someone else, I would consider that employee terminated from employment by resignation at that time. He should not be allowed to just waltz back to SMU, and SMU should not be forced to pay out his contract should they decide to fire him over this. He abandoned his job to pursue other employment. Sorry, but I think it is a bad thing when a person is only loyal to themselves. That is largely what is wrong with the world today.

  15. Big East, huh? It actually makes more sense. But yeah, the lament of the BC fans (yes, they exist) is pretty funny. The fan base decided he had gone as far as they could and they really didn't need him anyway, so the firing just sort of worked itself out with the weird hardline stance about the Jets interview. Also, and these stats are unofficial conjecture from a BC grad, but they've had like 15 QBs get maimed, arrested or decide to transfer since the coaching change. Where have you gone, Tim Matt Hasselbeck Ryan?

  16. We are not TCU. Get every student attending TCU to go to a game, And you got 5,000 fans in the stands. Get every UNT student to go to a game, and you got a sellout. I do agree that we need a signature win, and I don't even think a win over K St. is an absolute signature win. Maybe if both programs continue in their current direction, we can hope for something special in Austin in 2014 (or is it 2013).

  17. No, by surrounding them and telling them they (the police) weren't going to be allowed to proceed with their arrest without a show of force. It's laid out in about 30 minutes of video I've watched, and they say it pretty clearly. They WON'T let the police do their job without a show of force, and they got it. But I'm done on the subject. I've been pepper sprayed, been on both sides of crowd control, seen people trampled. There are few on this board that have the knowledge and experience to judge what happened there. Military and police experience is a likely prerequisite. The police were given few options - physically pick up and arrest the people committing obstruction (already with detainees) or pepper spray them. The police were doing their job. The protesters were breaking the law, were asked to stop, were warned of the consequences, SAID THEY WERE OKAY FACING THOSE CONSEQUENCES, and then received them. Got what they want. Now that I feel sick for having to agree with the righties on something - That Rick Perry is retarded.

  18. For a variety of reasons, some of you are not members of the Mean Green Club. Some staff member was thought to be rude, or someone didn't return a phone call, or one of us didn't get a premium parking spot. there are lots of reasons not to support North Texas Athletics. After watching this video, I don't understand any of those reasons. Their job is to run or catch or throw. Our job is to pay the freight. To provide money so that those athletes can represent us, the university of North Texas as well as they can. Our job is just as important and we don't have to sweat to do our job. I'd like to say, on behalf of all the members of the Mean Green Club, "Don't mention it. We're glad to do it." I just hope that some more of us will step up to the plate, or the line, or the tee and do our part as supporters of the University of North Texas. We need each other more now than ever. GO MEAN GREEN

  24. The only pulse we showed was the season opening win against Ball St in 2009. The Ohio game had really good attendance for a monsoon game. The next 2 home games were MTSU and FAU. Over 22k showed up for MTSU only to leave at the half with UNT down 30-7. Over 23k showed up for FAU, only to wach a 13 point 1st qtr lead evaporate as FAU scored 30 second qtr points. Give this fan base something, anything to be excited about and your average attendance will jump to the low 20k area. Pull off a win against a team that matters (Kansas St. Or LSU next year) and watch the spike in attendance you have for the following home game. For a fan base that has had one moment (Ball St) of excitement since 2004, attendance is doing pretty well.

  25. I would say the tragedies did have an effect on recruits/students in the years immediately after those tragedies. I'm pretty sure a senior visiting a campus and seeing a makeshift shanty-town in its midst probably wouldn't consider it a positive. Also, I think saying that this incident is a concern because it validates a political position would also have to come with an admission that the UC Davis is only news for the same reason, that some people feel it validates their view of police. Otherwise, it reeks of hypocrisy, IMO.

  28. If we are frozen out of CUSA or the Mountain West, we can thank the stretch from 2005-2010 that left as as the laughing stock of college football. 2 more wins this year (ya, I know that would have been asking a lot) and maybe perception of this prgram gets turned around enough (only if we had gotten a bowl bid) to land a spot in CUSA or the Mountain West. I don't think the merger happens. Just too cumbersome with no promise of a BCS bid. I football hate Todd Dodge so, so, so, so much right now.

Unfortunately, like it or not, students other alums don't think like you and I. I hope they are sick of losing, if they are even Still interested at all. Give them something to be excited about and watch the numbers swell

  39. I wonder how the UNT tours have handled this... Have they avoided the area? What do they say when they pass the area? Hundreds of students tour our campus every week. Hard to ignore I'd imagine. -On you're left you'll see the-- -Excuse me sir, is that the Occupy Denton protest area? -Yes it is. Moving on, you'll see the-- -Didn't a homeless man die there last week?
    1 point
  40. So are we legitimately worried that the death of a homeless man on campus is going to potentially drive away potential recruits/students? Is that what's happening here? Do you think kids that want to go to UT think twice because of the tower shooting or about other tragedies that have happened at various universities around the country? This is a topic because for some of you, you think it validates your view of the OWS crowd.

  41. Actually, no, I don't. Like the vast majority of all govt. depts and agencies, there are way more employees than are needed to do a good job. Productivity numbers indicate this time and time again. While I personally hate to see anyone lose a job, this is a case where consideration of job cuts could definitely help "save" a bunch of other jobs and retain some semblance of service for the clients. The postal service could also look at employee benefits as a way to save costs and yet not cut as many services or employees. I too believe that many government functions would be much better run if the private sector were allowed to handle it...like perhaps United Parcel, FedEx, etc. in this case. Much of the post offices challenges come from the electronic delivery of mail these days and the fact that the post office has simply not kept up with the trends in what clients expect and require. Again, like raising taxes, they cannot figure out the correlation between the continued decline in first class mail usage and the ever rising cost of first class postage coupled with what electronic methods of communication now handle. The simple things seem to constantly be missed by the government mind set. The post office is certainly no exception. Long ago...when the post office became an agency and not a full-fledged budget item for Congress and the taxpayer, they should have thought about marketing and service quality as they were now in the retail and competitive marketplace. But, no, they kept on doing the same things the same ways with bloated staffs and outdated equipment until it was way past too late. On another note...they certainly failed to recognize the fact that stamp collecting had seen its heyday and was on the decline with the "younger set". Just one area where they failed to make changes to capitalize on the changing environment. They failed to recognized that the collector would no longer be rushing to the post office in the numbers they once were to grab each and every new postal issue, sign up for first day covers, purchase postal stationary, etc. while never using them as actual postage. A small area perhaps, but certainly a sample of the failings of the postal service to be in tune with the business climate. The postal service has no one but itself to blame for the condition it finds itself in today. The union control over the postal service certainly doesn't help either. Unions never seem to be interested in efficiencies and competition...only bloated payrolls and bloated benefit packages, and yes, those union dues that line the pockets of the union bosses. Just saying......where are the OWS folks protesting the bloated salaries on bonuses of union bosses? Gee, I wonder? While a bit off-track, I just couldn't resist getting that "union" shot in during this post.

  42. You might prefer for the work to stay behind the scenes. If any progress became known there would be a barrage of hate from both current members and aspirants. If a leak happened before anything was signed, and it backfired, we would be the butt of many jokes. Quietly, I'd like for our backers to know the progress but that would be public knowledge as soon as some members could get to their computers and phones. I have confidence in our president. Dr. Rawlins knows the NCAA as well as any "outsider" could. We also have a consultant whose firm is very good at knowing which flesh to press. If there are additions, and I believe there will be, I like our chances a lot.

  43. Oh the short memories on ths board. Houston would have been a sellout if we weren't down 28 points in the 1st quarter to a conference opponent in the 1st game of the season. There was quite a good showing of students at Apogee that night to watch the big screen, and they got, what was in their eyes, the same ole same ole. I was there and saw the looks on their faces. How do you expect a student body to get Jazzed for a game against Houston when UNT crapped their pants against a conference opponent the week before?? I'm sure Coach Mac realizes that if he wants a full house, he can't get blown out of the water by a team that UNT should be competitive against. I do worry about the LSU game next year. Barring a miracle, we won't be in this game in the second half. Not a good way to inspire attendance at home. Really wish we could dump this game or move it from the 1st game of the season.

  45. I've seen the full 16 minute video: -The police just wanted to remove the people that set up tents and camped over night, after they got those few people, the left -The protestors then follwed and encircled the police while they were waiting for patrol cars to come pick up the few protestors they had detained -They blocked the police from doing their job- they're job of enforcing the law -The police WARNED the protestors 3 times, and personally let each person they pepper sprayed that they would do so whether or not the protestors' actions were passive or aggressive There's no way you can defend the UC Davis protestors after seeing the full video.

  46. Well, I think there is proof that one Occupy Denton "protester" was a homeless drug addict, isn't there? Obviously, not the whole movement is that way, but to deny that there is a portion of the movement that is exactly like this man is naive. Also, UNT is private property. They should have ended this weeks ago by issuing criminal trespass warnings to the non-students and telling the students they would be removed from school if they did not follow the proper protocol for demonstrations. They didn't, and now they have the death of a protester on their hands. I wouldn't be surprised to see this guy's family sue the university.
