  1. The uniforms are great...the helmet on the other hand.....well lets just say we need our logo on the helmet and not "North Texas".

  2. I can assure you that we had no chance at him, nor we he have been considered for hiring when he had a lawsuit against another state institution. I have said for years that Leach's next job (even when he was at Tech) would be at a non-AQ in the MWC or at a low-level AQ school out west. Washington State is the perfect place for him. He can do whatever he pleases in an area with little media coverage (see Lubbock, TX) and in a league where offense rules the day. He'll do fine there, alot like he did in Lubbock, but in the end, I doubt that they will ever beat Oregon or USC for the Pac-12 championship.

  7. I will learn not to even comment on football recruiting with anything but glowing enthusiasm. No matter how you say it or what documentation you have, don't ever even hint that NT recruiting class is not stellar. You will get the same responses, ""doesn't matter how they are rated; it is how they perform on the field that counts". Plus the usual accounts of highly recruited players who do not make it and lightly recruited ones that end up being superior players. Valid points but I really find it difficult to discuss recruiting classes five years down the road, not a whole lot of interest. There are a lot of great football players that end up at sub-fb division football programs and many super recruits never pan out; but in recruiting you are dealing with probabilities not absolutes. The higher the rated the prospect the more likely he will contribute, hardly something that can be disputed. I too hope that NT is on the road to TCU or Boise State success, programs that excelled early despite mediocre recruiting classes on paper. In fact, that is what I stated with the hope that McCarty could find those type of recruits to start rebuilding NT. However, that can't be determined for a year or two. The cold hard truth is that most NT fans are always high on the current recruits. Problem is looking backward it is easy to tell that most of those recruiting classes did not result in a lot of wins. A lot of good football players were found such as Cobbs, Quinn, Orr, Zuniga and many others, but never enough to sustain and grow a good program. I have a lot of confidence in McCarney and staff but not enough to be overly enthusiastic about a lower rated recruiting class. Hopefully, a year from now: I will have a lot more faith in NT's current recruiting efforts. "

  10. Caught the second half of Odoh's game last night and was very impressed with his movement. He runs like a deer, works his butt off, and has great acceleration for a big man. He appeared to be sick and was coughing every chance he got, but still managed to come up with 6/6/3 in the 15 minutes or so that I saw him. Showed great elevation on a jam near the end of the game. He does appear to be a little raw offensively, but I suspect that his offensive game will improve once he gets away from the hully gully JC scene and has the benefit of D1 coaching, He looked a little thinner than I thought, but you could tell that he is very strong, and looked like he may have a bit of a mean streak in him after a bad foul call. His coach looked and acted like Bobby Knight on meth, and at one time chided Odoh for not blocking out by screaming out something like "you block out like that and you call yourself a big North Texas signee?" All and all I think he's going to be a great addition. We're going to have one Hell of an intimidating shot blocking front line next year with Odoh standing next to Mitchell.

  17. Do you want more good news ? We're 3-4 so far in a "nobody league." Why would a potential "somebody" league want North Texas ? Think about this Saturday when it's "too cold," or "too early," or "my wife's best friend's cousin is getting married." While most of us can't coach or play, we can be present. So we must do what we can to help this program. There's nobody else left to do it. Beat Middle Tennessee GO MEAN GREEN

  31. This was posted on the Recruiting Board, but I think it holds major relevance for us today in terms of our alignment in certain conferences and with our views of other Texas schools. The hill/mountain is steep, especially when the other schools around here literally want nothing to do with having us in a conference with them. With no rival to build with, our program hasn't been able to sustain any momentum or interest during times when our program is either down (most of the time) or when we are winning but playing schools no one has heard of or cares about. The intriguing part here, to me, is not how the private schools look down at us, as well as probably the other Texas state schools from the old SWC, but its how we look at UTSA and Texas State. To me, this is the golden chance to build something with two other schools that look like us, are growing, and are at similar stages as FBS programs RIGHT NOW. I capitalize that part because I want everyone to recognize that I know we are much further along in terms of history than either of those schools, but we are also miles ahead of them in apathy, too. We could really start something if the three schools started playing each other and getting something built in terms of rivalry and dependability. Who knows, it might even attract a UTEP to consider being a part of that mix one day, since Rice would be its only other conference mate in Texas if SMU and UH leave CUSA. Also, in bigger possibilities, it could eventually leave those smaller private schools out of future conferences. Its my belief that none of those schools--except TCU and Baylor--bring much to a conference. And its possible that TCU could easily fall back to its old status as being an also-ran now that they will be playing those bigger schools every week in the Big XII-II. All in all, those private schools are super small, have small followings unless they win and get their cities' interest for that particular season, and their cities are full of alums from the bigger state schools, which causes their media and fan attention to never really get to the level that they "sell" to these conferences and networks. There is just no way that SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, or Rice deliver anything remotely close to what their dollars can buy. the Big East will find this out, just as CUSA has found it out. But, to me, an SBC with us, Texas State, and UTSA, as well as a La Tech and a NMSU, would work out fine with me, at least for the next few years. It sure beats the heck out of continuing this nonsense of the current SBC with no one close than a 6 hour drive and full of teams no one cares about in the least.

  32. IF, and its a big IF,AFC,Boise, and SDSU leave MWC for Big East, then the MWC becomes a glorified WAC. if we complain about no intrastate rivals now and the travel distance to Sun Belt members, then the MWC is not for us. the closest member is in Albuqurque, which is a lot futher from Denton than Monroe. given my " druthers ", i would rather be a replacement for SMU SHOULD they and Houston leave CUSA for Big EAST.baring that, i would just as soon stay in the Belt with the addition of La.Tech,TX.St.,UTSA, and NMSU from the WAC creating 7 school Western and Eastern divisions. even UTEP doesn't want in the MWC.

  35. So you are saying you do care?
    1 point
  36. We are giving other schools, conferences, fans, students, alums a reason not to care about us but we can change that. And if you ask any of those schools' administrations (except maybe SMU), I am pretty certain they would all be willing to be conference mates with us especially CUSA now that they're losing both UH and SMU. MWC does technically need a footprint in Texas so if they are wise then UNT would have to be an option and I don't think most of those schools would have an issue with us because of what potential we have to offer and what kind of recruiting footprint we will provide. Worse comes to worse I'll accept TSU and UTSA because as they say beggars can't be choosers but I think we have a shot just as much as anybody else of getting into the MWC or CUSA.

  37. Thank you! It was a lot of fun. We even got complimented by a UT fan after the game while we were standing outside. He thought it was cool that that we all came down for the game and that we never stopped cheering. Idk how loud we actually were, but it felt like we were being heard and was fun anyway. Some observations I had (non-game related:) Really weird looking arena from the outside, but I did really like the orange lighting outside the arena. It would be cool if we had something like that with green. The inside was cool, I liked the lights-out intro and because they have a bigger arena, the scoreboard strip was cool. Hopefully one day we can get the drop down scoreboard in the pit. This was my first in person experience with UT, so maybe it's not always like this.. but I would much rather have the Pit Crew and our basketball band. Not impressed with the band (hooked up through speakers, really?) and didn't really see a big student section. Perhaps there is something to the "tshirt fans" that I always hear about. Maybe it was just this game, but I was disappointed with that aspect (although it was better for us on the bus!)

  38. But we are the elite when compared to Tx St and UTSA, right? That's what everyone around likes to think, anyways. For the record, I agree. We need to play those guys and embrace them because no matter what anyone thinks, we aren't far ahead of them.

  40. rick, i appreciate your point of view, and continued support of N.T. athletics. if i remember the "way back machine", SMU had an AD whose name escapes me[Russ Potts?] that said something to the effect that an empty seat never bought a bag of popcorn. this is a chance to get people who might never go to a game in our new stadium at a game in which we are favored with the hope that they will buy tickets and come back next season. in addition, this game is up against a number of conference championship games, such as SEC,CUSA,that will be televised. i'm afraid the stadium would be more than half empty without this promotion. we always discuss ways to build our core fan base, and i applaud our efforts to do so. its not a perfect world, and life is not always fair. we all try to do the best we can, and thats what R.V. is attempting to do.

  41. As much as I like Chris Jones his shooting percentage from the floor makes Ked's FT percentage look great. JJ needs to work with CJ's about shot selection or something to improve CJ's FG percentage. Our team can't take much more of 4-13 from the floor. Go Mean Green!!!
