I'm sorry but we don't need any more of your hip hop language on this board. Comprende?5 points

Yep. He chose to have a young, talented squad that can grow together rather than maybe some lesser JUCO guys that are just trying to find a place to play for a year or two. Shameful. Where's my torch?5 points

We are growing a lot over this road trip! We are slowly maturing and I think that by the time we come home our team will be the team to beat in the belt! If Patton and Mitchel come on board UNT will dominate. We needed to lose to UTA big and play tech close... we also need to play teams like Miss St. and Texas on the road. Our learning curve is fast and we are stepping up! I like what I have seen so far, keeping in mind the bulk of this team will be around next year before another large recruiting class comes in.4 points

Mean Green Coach Recruits New Talent Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1976 Hayden Fry, athletic director and head football coach, announced Wednesday that 12 high school football players have signed national letters of intent with North Texas. With the first announcement of recruits for the Mean Green, Fry pointed out that a similar number of signings would be completed by the weekend. David Adkisson, a highly sought player from Lake Dallas, is expected to sign with the Eagles later today. Half of Wednesday’s signees come from Dallas Carter High School in Dallas, a team that advanced to the state 4A quarterfinals in 1975. “Our success the first day assures us of an outstanding group of freshman football players for next fall,” Fry said. “It has been one of the most competitive years ever because of the large number of top players and I think we will have done quite well,” he added. Two of the first day signees are quarterbacks, Dallas Carter’s Marty Morrison and Houston Washington’s Byron Bryant. Bryant, son of Washington’s coach James Bryant, was the top punter in Houston with a 43.7 average. The first day recruits for North Texas (linemen include linebackers, backs include receivers) – BACKS: Byron Bryant, 6-3, 195, Houston Washington Bruce Chambers, 5-10, 165, Dallas Carter Larry Dixon, 6-0, 185 Dallas South Oak Cliff Malcolm Jones, 5-8, 165, Dallas Carter Marty Morrison, 6-2, 200 Dallas Carter Danny Whitaker, 6-0, 185 Decatur LINEMAN Clarence Chase, 6-5, 260 Waco Richfield Robert Foster, 6-4, 255 Allen David Hagerman, 6-4, 215, Dallas Carter Melvin Lark, 6-2 215, Dallas Carter Mark McNealy, 6-3, 235, Dallas WT White Tony Palmer, 6-4, 250, Dallas Carter Fry Adds Six to Letters of Intent Roster Thursday, Feb. 5, 1976 North Texas added six high school football players to its national letter of intent roster Thursday. The list includes David Adkisson of Lake Dallas, a 6-7, 220 pound athlete who has a choice between football and basketball or both. Adkisson’s brother, Kevin, is a freshman running back at North Texas. His father, Jack Adkisson, is more widely known as pro wrestler Fritz VonErich. Other line candidates are Greg Davidson, 6-2 230, of Stafford Dulles; and Brian O’Keefe, 6-4, 240 of Houston Bellaire. Backs signing with the Mean Green are Gary Dirks, 6-2, 215, Paris North Lamar; Jimmy Lockhart, 6-0, 190, Dallas WT White; and Walter Sims, 6-1, 200, Waco Richfield. Coach Hayden Fry announced 12 signings Wednesday, the first day for the national honor. According to Fry, this has been one of the Eagle’s most productive years in recruiting. “Now that we are competing with the “big boys’ for talent, things have gotten much tighter, but we have done very well,” Fry said3 points

It won't matter much though as if I recall from my studies of German history the Krauts made their walls notoriously thin...I'd be willing to wager everyone in the hallway would be able to hear just how upset he is over the death of the annual tradition. Women may even cry.3 points

But tell me who he's played? Why are you all so satisfied with our prospects playing such weak ass schedules? I guess I just want more for my university than the rest if you.3 points

rick, i appreciate your point of view, and continued support of N.T. athletics. if i remember the "way back machine", SMU had an AD whose name escapes me[Russ Potts?] that said something to the effect that an empty seat never bought a bag of popcorn. this is a chance to get people who might never go to a game in our new stadium at a game in which we are favored with the hope that they will buy tickets and come back next season. in addition, this game is up against a number of conference championship games, such as SEC,CUSA,that will be televised. i'm afraid the stadium would be more than half empty without this promotion. we always discuss ways to build our core fan base, and i applaud our efforts to do so. its not a perfect world, and life is not always fair. we all try to do the best we can, and thats what R.V. is attempting to do.3 points

A recent poll on their site asks for what is the biggest change to La Sierra Athletics and one option is "The move to NAIA". They are now in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. They are currently 0-4, but only because for some reason missed their match against the Afghanistan National team back on November 13th? I'm not making this up. They do have 6 Seniors and 2 Juniors, and finished 2nd in defense in whatever Elmer Fud Disney conference they were in last year, so look out there! Their school has 2,000 students, or about the same size as Ima Tellin U. in Chico, Texas. http://www.lsugoldeneagles.com/SIDHelp/m/0/1/r|224|Derek%20Robbins|.php Says 4th year head coach Derek Robbins, who i think got caught snatching an extra sandwich out of the fridge just as that picture was taken, has been around the game for 20 years and actually played at Los Angeles powerhouse Banning High School. That's one way to negate the no in/out rule too I guess. Everyone should just buy 2 tickets to every game: one for the first half and one for the second half.2 points

Not "if" UNT wins Saturday as the title of the thread mentions...BUT WHEN UNT wins Saturday the record will be 4-4 in the 'Belt and 5-7 overall. I say that's a darn good start to turning this Green Machine around in a positive direction. FILL APOGEE for SENIOR DAY Saturday...these seniors have been through a lot during their careers at UNT and they have hung in there and worked hard to build a better and stronger program for the players who follow. Time for the Mean green faithful to tun out on SENIOR DAY to say "good bye" and "thanks for all you have done" to the seniors...I, for one, am very appreciative of the fact they stayed to see it through...2 points

NT should have a throwback uni for HC every year. I vote for the lime green and the flying worm!2 points

I hate this move. Send the Brewers back to the AL. The Astros have been an NL team since '62 (and way beyond that if you count the fact that the Houston Buffs were a minor league farm team for the Cardinals). I think it sucks and I think Bud Selig sucks. As a fan, I'd rather they sent the Diamondbacks- a very young franchise- to the AL West and let the Astros move to the NL West so they can rekindle the rivalry with the Dodgers. Division games with the Rangers interests me very little, from an historical perspective.2 points

Not everyone is on the bus but it should be full. Most everyone is wearing green and if they aren't, they are handing out green shirts so there should be no excuses! free pizza and the bus has ESPN so it should be a good trip!1 point

Well let’s break it down – this is the 8th straight loss to Texas – they are just very talented at every position. Before the game announcers indicated that the top 8 NT players had 3 assists and that UT’s freshman guard Kamonga through first 4 games has 32 assists – which indicates that all our shots are coming off of on ball screens – players still tend to stand around on offense. 19 turnovers – I think that is about our average so far this season. We did look better because UT did not full court press. We still have a ways to go but this looked like an improvement overall in effort and rebounding. Can’t believe Plum did that – so unlike him.1 point

We're still not really playing as a cohesive D1 unit, but the talent is certainly there. Nice improvement tonight, and I hope that everyone's role is starting to get a little more established now. I hate to say that C. Jones is not the point guard of our future, but for now I like Alzee at the 1 and Jones at the 2. Hope they both get 30 minutes at the tourney to see what they can do.1 point

Jordan Williams is shooting better. Roger Franklin is a good defender and probably our best rebounder. For some reason though, he insists on taking a dribble before every shot he takes. Chris Jones was pretty quiet tonight, but the were doubling him off screens. Good news is the schedule gets A LOT easier from here on out. And we only have 4 more games without Tony. Things are finally looking up. We do need to take care of the basketball and make our layups though. Those 2 things cost us a chance to win this game. But, it will only get better. Go Mean Green!1 point

Franklin and Alzee showed a lot tonight. We dominated Texas on the glass. Definitely some positive signs headed towards Friday.1 point

Oh well, we didn't make it easy for them. I'm encouraged by everything other than our shooting percentage tonight, but that will come around in time. Glad to see Alzee and Franklin take big steps forward. Jordan Williams showed some great flashes as well.1 point

UT didn't even play that well. We're still very inconsistent in many areas of the game. Signs of slow improvements though, hope those keep coming.1 point

We are rebounding well! In fact Robinson and Mitchell even have rebounds according to ESPN.com! That just just how good we bring the boards down...1 point

I'm about tired of Brandon Walton and his streaky-ness... he is either hot or cold... no consistency whatsoever. He is cold as ice in this game.1 point

Absolutely. Folks who paid for club seats were promised a lot of things by the athletic department. If you can't keep all those promises, at least try to make up for it in little ways when you have the opportunity.1 point

You've gotten a lot of -1s here, but if what you type is even remotely accurate, then this should be rectified immediately by the AD. Talk about a great way to run off a big donor or two...1 point

Johnson Troy Kokjohn D'Leon McCord Jamize Olawale Michael Outlaw John Shorter Weston Squier Matt Tomlinson Jamaal Wilson Senior Day is my favorite game of the year, but unfortnately I will be unable to attend this year, so I would like to say thank you to each of the graduating seniors for the effort they've put forth for our university and the character they have exhibited through a number of trying years. Thank you for being leaders of, what I believe, is the turning around of our program. I wish I could be there to give each of you a standing ovation and I encourage everyone to exit the tailgate area and be in Apogee when these young men are announced for the last time. It always pissed me off when people wouldn't come in early enough to honor these young men that have represented our university, or those that came in just sat dumbfounded as these young men were announced. Please get their early and show your appreciation for their efforts. Since the game starts at 3:00pm, you will be able to tailgate afterwards.1 point

La. Tech's team is probably even better that its record. They lost at So. Miss by 2,Houston at home by 1 blowing 3 touchdown 2nd half lead, and in OT at Miss. ST. Their only big loss was by 18 at home against Hawaii the following week. They also beat Old Miss.on the road, which is simular to our win against Indiana.Their problem is being a fairly small school in Ruston, whose population is about 25,000. You would think they would draw some fans from Shreveport, but apparently not.I would like to think we would fill our new stadium with their record, and hope to find out in next few years.La. Tech has had good teams in the past, but i think attendance has always been a problem. I wish them well in their bowl game, which will probably be against Boise.1 point
