  1. From the article.... "More interesting is that UTSA has apparently already begun its efforts to lobby CUSA, sending material to the school presidents who will ultimately decide which schools are added. Multiple sources said it is also in the early stages of assembling a team of local business and political leaders to help sell the school if an opportunity to join does materialize." Local business and political leaders supporting their local state University?!?! Someone needs to tell those business men that if they start supporting UTSA, then it will piss off all the students at Texas Lutheran and Our Lady of the Lake University. I hope some Denton Businessmen/women give them a call and give them fair warning about the dangers of showing support of UTSA........

  2. ...we will be 4-4 in the Belt. No bad considering how young we were entering the season. My only disappointment this season was McNulty over Osborn...even after games got out of hand. Most disappointing loss, by far, was the Louisiana game. Thompson goes down, we cough up a lead. Defense keeps us in the game before giving up 17 in the final stanza. Wish we'd tried Osborn in the fourth quarter of that one since McNulty wasn't moving the offense. All in all, pleased with the progress. Again, injuries riddled us this year. However, unlike other recent seasons where injuries decimated the team, it didn't cave. Since the firing of Dodge, we are 6-10, and could be 7-10...with the same or younger roster. These are good coaches, fellas. With a full season of recruiting, and some better luck on the injury front, we could blow up in 2012. If Canales stays, we'll be looking at three consecutive seasons with the same OC, and Thompson, who was brilliant at times, with all of that experience running his system...it could be really good if some pass catchers emerge. Amazing what we did with the young OL, DL, and inexperience at WR. Did I say these were good coaches?

  4. Announced was around 15k, which is about right (sad, but accurate). The cameras always show the East side (which should be full of SMU fans, too), but the West side (plus Stadium Club) has far more people. It's going to take more time to earn back SMU fans. You can't suck for 20 years and expect fans to jump right back on board. This year didn't have one exciting home game, and this last game was expected to be a dud. Thanksgiving weekend, cold and crappy, students gone, RICE, and poor SMU QB play. Many of us were actually surprised we had as many fans as we did. In any case, sorry you didn't get to six wins this year. Hopefully you're in good shape for next year.

  5. If you have ever been involved in any kind of M&A activity (merger and acquisition), you know that 99% of what happens is completely behind the scenes. When things leak out or there is public comment, it is because 1. a deal is already done or mostly done behind the scenes or 2. it is pure unsubstantiated rumor. TCU most certainly did NOT get into the Big 12 because it's AD called a press conference.

  8. I hate having to say this because I don't want it to seem like I'm ignoring the HUGE attendance issues we have, but that image is like many others. It's being taken from the side of the stadium where most fans are. The opposite side is usually a mix of the student section and the opponents' fans. The media always has the cameras on our fans' sides so it looks like a dreadfully empty stadium. While it is a pathetic turn out, there are probably about ten thousand on the western side of the stadium alone. This was the same issue we had at the UCF game. Either way, whether we have 8,000 fans or 15,000 fans, that sucks and the team deserves better. While it was a crap showing by our fans, it was still much more than 1,000

  9. They just need to put themselves in better positions to shoot. It's part of being young and they will figure it out over time.

  10. Great! Just what we need. Someone(Jones) that looks at records first, team second. BTW, without a defense on this team, look for J’Covan Brown to bury us.

  11. WOW! Said in the post game interview when the team was down by 22 She told them, "It's either quittin' time or it's get with it time........and I'm not really into quittin'..... Very proud of this team for the turn around so far. As another poster has dubbed them, "THE FIGHT'N KAREN ASTONS!". Do we play basketball? YOU BET YOUR ASTON WE DO! Rick

  12. Win or lose, this team is the real deal. Gosh, what good coaches can do for a program.

  13. NT has a new student fee, a new stadium, a relatively new athletic center/Eagle Point development dedicated to athletics, a new pro-athletic President and administration and a new coaching staff that is the highest paid in school history. I have a hard time believing we are now sitting around twiddling our thumbs and not being proactive.

  15. ...any chance Canales or Bowen get snapped up? Both have long resumes. I think both could be head coaches in the future. Could they be tapped as OC or DC this go round? We haven't lit it up, but we have improved somewhat. Does our losing record save us from coaching changes for a season? For whatever reason, I've always believed that Mike Leach would end up in the Pac-12. And, I've always believed it would be at UCLA. Surely, his phone is ringing.

  16. Since I see no introduction area and I really want to introduce myself before barging right in, I'll just do it here.... Hey everyone! My name is Danny and I'm from the great town of Melissa, TX. I'm currently a senior at the 2A high school (turning 3A when I leave), which is currently kicking major butt in most state-wide competitions. I joined the board because I'll be attending UNT come next academic year. I'll be a Computer Science major, and will hopefully be including the Game Programming concentration as well. Although UNT is already a great school, I do hope that, before I graduate from UNT, the athletics program will be much more respectable and that the university gains Tier One status. Gotta catch up to Houston somehow... GMG!

  17. Far be it for me to take up for SMU fan, but the last three posts provide objective insight into the "crowd" at SMU this past weekend. Thanksgiving weekend. Cold weather. No title or bowl eligibility on the line. Why, by the way, do most stadiums insist on providing camera views that show the less populated side of the field? And this bit of insight from BPF sounds like he is talking about NT: You can't suck for (all but 4 of the last xx number of years) 20 years and expect fans to jump right back on board. This year didn't have one exciting home game, and this last game (is) was expected to be a dud. In all likelihood, we will be facing similar cold weather this coming weekend, though we will have the benefit of students being back in class. It would be nice to see a good crowd witness our seniors playing their last game. I look forward to a run-first game plan that favors Dunbar's pursuit of the record in front of enough fans to beat the attendance record. Finish, boys. GMG

  19. Tech was not happy the last time they hired a head coach away from us. Oddly enough, we weren't too upset about it till we found out Bob Tyler was going to be the replacement. Those of you who think Dodge was our worst coach never experienced Bob Tyler!

  23. FYI,i glanced at CUSA attendance, which shows ECU at 50,000 per game, which are sellouts. UCF averaged 37,000,Houston 31,000, and Southern Miss. 30,000. rest of conference ranged from 27,000[uTEP&Marshall], to 17,000[uAB]. i overlooked Rice, but Tulsa,Tulane, and SMU averaged between 22,000 and 20,000 in attendance, about the same as LA.Tech.we, on the other hand, mirrored UAB, both in games won[them 3, UNT 4 with one home game to play], and attendance. all this proves is i am retired and have a lot of time on my hands.

  26. Hays Rebels beat the Akins Eagles 42-7 at Bob Shelton stadium. It was strange how similar the view was to catching a game at old Fouts(I hadn't seen a HS game in almost 10yrs). Boone Feldt was bigger and stronger than anyone on the field. He just overpowered his man. He got flagged for holding a couple times but only because he drove his man 30yds from the play. It looked like he lost his cool once because he drove his man from the middle of the field all the way to the sideline and then on his back. The kid he drove laid there a few minutes before getting up and limping to the other sideline. He got sat on the bench for the rest of the half after that play. I like his intensity. He is a solid recruit and once Wintrich and Simmonds get ahold of him, he will be a 4yr starter. Another kid impressed me too. He is just a sophomore but is a 6' 226lb DT(in a 3-4 defense) who goes to the whistle on every play and shows no fear. If he stays in the weight room the next 2 yrs, he could be a big time recruit too.

  27. What is bad about this list? We are recruiting against many name schools, have widen our recruiting area, have more early commits than ever before, and have a number of three-star recruits included in this group. I just don't understand how people are being negative about this class. Look at our recent history, record wise, and tell me what you were expecting against what we have committed so far.

  28. Are we really ok to talk about fudging attendance numbers to beat a new home attendance record?

  29. Not saying their crowd was huge, but that's obviously before the game started. We usually do a pretty substantial fill-in through the 1st quarter. Lousy crowd given the Ponies success? Absolutely.... but Thanksgiving weekend is HARD. ETA: If you look, you can tell this is pre-coin flip.

  30. I count around 100 people per each section that has a group. So IMO there may have been 1,000 there yesterday. Very sad for a team that qualified for a third straight bowl game. Rick

  33. For the record, JJ has won two conference TOURNAMENT titles not two conference titles. In fact we have only had one season where we were in contention for the conference title and in all actuality won the the title except for stupid tie-breaking rules. Look at his overall conference record, i would bet it's not a whole lot over .500 For taking a long view, you sure put a lot of emphasis on a short term record (conference tournament record). I can appreciate what JJ has accomplished here and i want him to stay but he's had way to many piss poor losses while he has been here and i don't blame fans for getting frustrated. If you can't bet frustrated and upset on a message board after getting clobbered by UTA by 30+ points, when can you get frustrated?

  38. You are a fan of our team as well. We're happy to have you so you don't have to try to distance yourself. You have to understand that army of dad and army of mom are very tough on officials. Embarrassingly vocal sometimes, but they go to damn near every game and we are happy to have them too. Fans arent idiots. They spend a lot of time watching games. Are you a player or coach?

  39. You have popped off with several statements that are only slightly based in reality (seeing things in incoming recruits that no one else does) and then call other people idiots...um, ok.

  40. Actually the officiating was horrible and inconsistent (not even between the teams). Here I thought UTA didn't have a football team, but the five guys they put out there last night didn't seem to know that. Our play was brutal and the refs didn't cost us the game, but they were so bad they should be kept in the middle school ranks from now on and that might be generous.
    1 point
  41. I used to believe that too. I just don't see it happening, we can't score 18 in the 1st half against f-ing UTA and realistically think we have any shot. This doesn't bode well for us at all. None of this will stop me from going to games (though I don't think I will be hitting any more away games) and cheering my loudest, but I just can't see this team doing something that last year's team wasn't able to do.

  46. Meh, beat MTSU and I will be very satisfied with what this Team has done. Especially after the total mess that Dodge left this Program in. Coach Mac with the possibility of 5 Wins THIS Season? While Dodge could only win SIX TOTAL GAMES in his three-plus years here?! Heck yeah! A .500 Season is well within reach next Season. And, do I dare say a being Bowl-eligible or winning the SBC Title? Seems like more of a possibility in '12 and beyond now than just a couple of months ago!
