  1. Said he appealed and hopes to be eligible in December w/ Mitchell. I'm not getting my hopes up , but it would be awesome if it became true

  2. jones needs to distribute the ball! He should be a doulbe double guy every game. It's time we get a set offense and distribute that ball!!!! Our defense on the other hand needs a LOT of work!

  3. ...we will be 4-4 in the Belt. No bad considering how young we were entering the season. My only disappointment this season was McNulty over Osborn...even after games got out of hand. Most disappointing loss, by far, was the Louisiana game. Thompson goes down, we cough up a lead. Defense keeps us in the game before giving up 17 in the final stanza. Wish we'd tried Osborn in the fourth quarter of that one since McNulty wasn't moving the offense. All in all, pleased with the progress. Again, injuries riddled us this year. However, unlike other recent seasons where injuries decimated the team, it didn't cave. Since the firing of Dodge, we are 6-10, and could be 7-10...with the same or younger roster. These are good coaches, fellas. With a full season of recruiting, and some better luck on the injury front, we could blow up in 2012. If Canales stays, we'll be looking at three consecutive seasons with the same OC, and Thompson, who was brilliant at times, with all of that experience running his system...it could be really good if some pass catchers emerge. Amazing what we did with the young OL, DL, and inexperience at WR. Did I say these were good coaches?

  10. I think Stoops should sit out a year. I think perspective and rest helps a lot of formerly good coaches. I think Rich Rodriguez is going to fit into Arizona nicely. I cannot believe how many coaches in the Pac 10 need to go including Nieuheisel, Erickson and whoever is at Oregon State. The fact Utah could have almost made it in there but choked against CU was surprising. The Pac 12 stinks this year. For the record watching TT and BU was disturbing as well. I just have horror flash backs to our Dodge days when we could score but couldn't stop anybody! SOOOOOOOOO many frustrating games. We look more and more like ISU everyday and I can live with that especially if we win on 12.3 and compete for a bowl berth again next year! This has been fun. GMG

  11. Chapel Hill 56 Navasota 46 Stats: CH 30 first downs; Navasota 11 CH Rushing 66/424; Navasota 14/-12 CH Passing 169; Navasota 274 UNT commits: Andrew Tucker 10/65, 1 TD injured in 2nd quarter appeared to be sprained ankle, but was jogging on the sidelines the entire 2nd half. Rex Rollins 16/99, 1 TD Sir Calvin Wallace Look at the rushing stats above for Navasota Sir Calvin played a great game created several hurries; had 2 3 sacks that I remember; really showed up when CH needed stops late in the game; and is finally showing up as a real emotional leader of the defense. CH had a great night carrying the ball; 7 different ball carriers. The score was as close as it was because CH offense gave up 3 touchdowns 2 interception returns and one fumble return. All eight CH TDs came via the offense. Coming up - Rematch of last years semifinal game: CH (13 0) vs. West Columbia (13 0) at Stephen F. Austin Stadium, Nacogdoches; 7:30 Friday.

  14. Got a chance to see Foster this weekend @ the fantasy of lights. Very smart player. Knows when to pass & knows when to shoot. Several times on fastbreaks he passed it off to the open man instead of forcing the shot. Very fundamental. Has a very nice stroke from the outside. Will defentitely play the 2 at the next level. Not bad handles, but not great. Hope to see him again on Jan 6th vs Argyle

  15. Our attendance should always be higher no matter what. We have so much more alumni . Maybe I just have higher expectations, if we don't have 20,000 + every game then I think we have a problem. Let's raise the bar around here. I know we can't do it over night and it will take time , hopefully we are on the right track

  16. There were maybe 4000 or 5000 at the SMU game, NT with crummy teams and playing at Fouts on Thanksgiving weekend has not been close to that bad. Some of you seem to take great delight in complaining about NT's attendance issues, but they are far from unique. Lets make a rule anyone who comments negatively about NT attendance has to actually go to the games. My biggest wish is that NT had SMU attendance counters, I think NT made a big mistake not inflated the attendance in the first three home games. Until the NCAA puts some teeth in their reporting attendance procedures, honesty is foolish. No matter how crazy the count is such as SMU having 17k today, down the line it will be quoted as the gospel.

  17. It would be about 5000. I doubt we have over 12k next week, but I'm sure they'll announce just enough for us to get the attendance record.

I think we are already making those inroads again. I just see games like this and think about it. So much talent here...but, you have to recognize which ones are real and which are just hype.

  21. I firmly believe you put the '02 or '03 football team in the '11 stadium with the '11 students and alums.......attendance is much MUCH better.

  22. It's not that simple. Casual fans don't all wait until a team is a proven winner to show up. They trickle in over time as the team's reputation improves. If McCarney puts a Belt contender on the field and the team notches some OOC wins, it'll get some butts in seats.

  26. Man, people can be such downers here on GMG. Having several thousand people and the high school players, coaches and parents come to Apogee is free marketing for UNT athletics. We finally have facilities that work for us instead of against us. Will it make a huge difference? Maybe not. But the more high school games at Apogee, the more people in Texas will know that we have a hell of a stadium. Treat them to a nice gameday experience and some of them might even come back just to watch games.

  27. The 2011 WAC Football Champions, Too. The attendance was actually announced as 17,000 and some change. They are going to turn into the NCAA approx. 21,518 for their "new" attendance average record. Does that sound like good numbers for a conference champion? Hey our attendance is not to write home about, either, but we just finished our 8'th losing season in a row, too. I'll take our fan base after those losing seasons anytime. Some of their own fan's comments on the La Tech attendance from their message board: '"If there was 17,000 people there then there is going to be 270,000 people in the Dome tomorrow night for the Saints game. At best there was 7,000 people." "Last night at the game, I thought attendance was around 15K. After seeing some TV footage, I think we had actual attendance was as high as 13K" "The crowd was bad, people need to stop making excuses for those that were not there. I have been comming to this board for years and many always blame the lack of crowd on the team, coaching, winning, etc. Now if we can not get a crowd for a WAC Championship, an 8-4 season and a bowl, it is time to start discussing the fan base and how and if we can ever get them to participate.........................." "Somewhat disappointed in the crowd but I was pleased to see that this was the what the "hardcore" crowd has grown to - It was rain through out and heavy rain at some points - during and several hours leading up to the game....Even with the conference championship on the line, in this type of weather 3 years ago we might of had 2,500 people in the stands - tonite we had 3 times, maybe 4 times that..." GMG! PS: They ran a thread on our "13K" weather game several weeks ago with lots of laughter and sarcasm. Turnabout is fair play? But jeez, the WAC football champions and they are bragging about whatever their real attendance average is (which no one will ever really know--including the NCAA)? I know, I'm going to hades for posting this kind of thread.

  28. Liike in sales, the worst thing they could say to us is...no. None of this re-alignment business is over till its over. We now have a few on this board waving the white flag wanting to "dummy down" our program to join some old SLC foes. Talk about a slow, painful death... (Folks, no one on one of these message boards are going to have any influence in any of this; it's all about conference school presidents and AD's). 35. I tell you we cannot go wrong taking our basketball (throw out UTA last week) to the MWC where UNLV is coming on. Dave Rice is bringing back the Runnin Rebels and tonight at the Orleans they beat their first #1 team since 1985. I would love to see the Mean Green play in Vegas and see the Runnin Rebels bring their strong program to Denton every year. CUSA has Memphis MWC has UNLV. I think our football program makes faster strides than our bball program in either league. Time to get back on track and Go Lady Eagles! GMG

  36. This game is a fantastic opportunity for Mean Green basketball to get a win over a Top 25 team. This would create even more momentum and exposure for our burgeoning program. Based on our play in the last game, I do not expect us to win, but if our guys can get their "A" game going today and play as a team at their actual talent level, I think we have a chance.

  37. I didn't notice any of the players fighting with the new unis like they did with the cheap Wilson kits. None of the constant retucking in jerseys or pulling up their waistbands and retying the laces. And the shorts didn't look any different than most teams in the nation.

  39. Other schools have been in the same position as ours and even in worse position than ours in our history and they bettered themselves despite being in lower conferences. We haven't deserved a better conference at this point because NT has failed to get it 'done'. Regardless of how we didn't get it done via school administration, fans, apathy, hippies etc etc etc....it seems that we've always found ways to think of new excuses. Hopefully we're on the right track at this point and again I say lets forget what SMU is doing because it is North Texas that controls North Texas' destiny.

  41. Rice is about the worst example you can use in college football. They didn't even bring 100 to fouts I'm sure if we played MTSU today there would be less than 5K at Apogee

  42. Having a HS playoff game at a college stadium isnt going to bring players here. How are you going to get a college experience with a HS crowd of 5k... Its not Cowboy Stadium, where people will come to see a game but mainly see the stadium. Players are gonna come to North Texas because they can win games, go to bowl games, and have a better opportunity, not bc of a stadium. The stadium is the bells and whistles, players dont wanna play in a dump (fouts) but they want to play in a college atmosphere (AQ type. You can have the nicest stadium in all of the NCAA but if you dont have the game day experience, it means nothing

  43. I understand that. I'm not saying this team won't be good and improve. I'm just not liking the way they are currently playing. They can lose and be confused about their roles and coaching, but today I did not see motivation and intensity. That's what's not excusable.

  44. Sorry but that's completely different. All of those teams play in the same conference. CUSA is much better than the Sun Belt and everyone here knows it, thus why we all want to join the conference.

  46. North Texas does control its own destiny but that very thought alone is a scary one because look at our across the board program the last 15-30 years? We need to do something different with our destiny than what we've been doing is what I guess I'm saying here and I'm talking about careeer wins versus losses of all varsity progams thru a string of varsity coaches. I'm not totally dissatisfied with our average attendance this year inasmuch as we are (after all) in our 8'th losing season in a row--new stadium or no new staidium. The North Texas students of today would not be as impressed with a new stadium because they haven't had to sit in Fouts Field for decade after decade after decade. 48. Okay, so UNT loses to UTA 97-64! I didn't watch the game and I just got back home and pulled up the score and thought there was a typo. Wasn't this team supposed to be a top 30 class??? (without Tony Mitchell). I don't care how "out of it" the players may have been or if we played without some starters, this score is completely embarrassing to the program and JJ needs to step it up by making the players realize that their "talent" needs to be SHOWN at the games. They won't win by simply showing up to the games....it doesn't work that way. What a disappointment.
