  1. That's really great, Rick. I was referring to the casual fan. But you're never one to miss a chance to pat yourself on the back, are you?

  2. I tentatively have the back room at Vickery Park in Plano booked to watch the UNT vs. UT game. They said they'd show the game back there and have the audio in the room for us. (They have Verizon FIOS.) Vickery Park in historic downtown Plano near the DART station. They have half price food on Tuesday nights too. I'm confirming everything with the owner tomorrow, but they have us down for now. Should be a good time. Once finalized, I'll let everyone know.

  5. If you've ever been to a college football game at another campus whose stadium is shoe-boxed inside their campus with no up close stadium parking for visiting fans but rather you have to take a shuttle bus which is about 2 or so miles from said campus stadium, then you would think that we are land rich with our North Texas Athletic Complex (Mean Green Village) and then this whole thread about our stadium location being a problem is about as silly as they've been of late. Just win, baby..............win. That will solve so many of our problems. GMG!

  6. According to UT's sports website, the game will be broadcast on...you guessed it...The Longhorn Network. So where can you find the Longhorn Network in the DFW area? I'm not sure which cable/satellite services have it. I'd like to know where I could go to watch the game (other than going to Austin). It would be good if we could find a few watering holes that would show the game.

  9. I don't understand your logic. I don't think anybody disagrees that we need to get out of the belt. That being said the Belt has been good to us...look I thought the same thing as you in the beginning but as time has gone by I've at least come to appreciate the conference for what it is. Do I desire the MWC or CUSA? Of course who the hell wouldn't? But we aren't in those conferences yet and that is the reality and the situation we have at hand. As I said in a previous thread that we don't have to be in a better conference to go to bowl games, win our conference, and hell even be top 25 if we run the table or maybe have 1 loss. We can do all of that stuff in the Belt and still continue to build our program and image.

  10. that just isn't looking at the big picture. If we keep letting ourselves get crushed by the Alabama's of the world at the start of ever season then we will continue to average 17k people at each game. we could be sitting with a winning or .500 record right now if we didn't play those types of teams year in and year out. And if we start winning will get more butts in the seats which in turn means more money in UNT's pockets. Playing teams like Alabama isn't going to help us in the long run.

  12. One issue we have relative to other schools is that there really aren't too many people out there ASPIRING to attend North Texas. I think a lot of them end up there who wanted to go somewhere else, though maybe they didn't want that bad enough. Some of them - very few it seems - will end up coming around and being thankful that NT was there to help them along the road of life. On the other hand, I know some people, who for whatever reason, aspire to attend places like Baylor. Maybe NT should get more selective and send some more of the other type people to TX State or SFA.

  13. I'm glad the blame the Belt thread has devolved into the need to join some new super regional conference and blaming body bag games. None of that is real. The reality, is the Belt has been good for us. Its given us a D1 home, and place to grow our entire athletic program. Hopefully we can out grow the Belt, but the truth is were not there yet.

  17. Going into last season before Johnathan was lost for the season Cameron was an outside Linebacker. I wouldn't move him anywhere, he has found his spot at RB. He has that continual leg drive and push to fall forward when there is nothing and a burst to take it all the way when there is a crease. Jay Finley went on to Baylor and is their all time leading RB rusher for a season and got drafted. Bill Jones played in the NFL for several seasons. Ketric Sanford left Houston as their all-time leading rusher and several other records. But I will say that Cameron at the same point at the same High School looks better than all of them. He is a Running Back now.

  19. I think his point was that when you weigh all the options...then to the casual fan for sure and even good fans that think about it hard is it worth it to them to do all of that and watch a pretty bad team on the field. I don't blame folks for not coming to games either...I mean these are valid questions and points.

  25. Maybe this game and this photo can live in UNT lore as the day we beat Western Kentucky and we can look back on it fondly 25 years from now and think of where our program could have been had the refs not screwed us out of a touchdown.

  26. Oh and one more thing. UTSA is the pro team that SA didn't get when they built the Adome. They are still trying to justify it. When the novelty wears off and the people realize it is not ACTUALLY a pro team or any semblance of the same, there will be a precipitous decline.

  30. Hello Coach Fairchild! If you've forgotten who we are, we did once face off in a Bowl game! Don't know why we don't have them scheduled instead of a K. State or an LSU. They've been down for awhile now, wouldn't likely complain about a home & home, and they've got a name people around here have heard of. Ft. Collins isn't that bad of a drive either.

  35. Good post. The stadium is where it is, and although getting to and from may not be as easy as Fouts was for some, it's still nothing that cannot be overcome. Hopefully solutions will evolve over time that simplify things.

  36. I don't know if it makes you a bad fan, but you're waiting for a scenario that's a one-in-a-thousand shot to ever happen. UNT is in the Sun Belt. No better offers have been extended to us. The WAC is at best a lateral move with some serious negatives. So if you can't get excited by the prospect of UNT playing for a Sun Belt title at Apogee, the program's unlikely to motivate you as a fan.

  38. Well the menu is not fully baked other than the olives, pickled okra, pickles, celery...for the bloody bar. I imagine the food will have a Spanish tint consisting of breakfast fajita tacos (beef and chicken), some barbacoa, lime drenched salsa and pandulce (Mexican sweetbread). Eggs scramble easy with some grilled papas and queso - yum. No brunch is complete without the fresh squeezed mimosa. We talked about arriving at 10:00 AM and were bummed about only 5 hours of tailgating bliss - so 8:00 AM here we come. Finish off Tailgate season in style! GMG

  39. Spawled out tailgating is my biggest complaint. Why don't they face the bandstand/stage toward the parking lots (where the people are) instead of uphill (where there aren't many). I think being able to hear the band would help the atmosphere greatly (at least in that area). At Fouts, we would walk around the Village and there would be 3 or 4 vendors selling MG gear. Now, there's only one. What happened?

  41. I've tailgated at every game this year in the premium lot across Bonnie Brea from the stadjium (aka softball field parking). It's only $10 if purchased before gameday with a student ID or $20 otherwise. It's been an awesome spot where you can tailgate out of your car and still be within easy walking distance of the hill to go back and forth.

  42. that will certainly help, but winning cures a lot of ills, plus an invite to CUSA won't hurt.

  43. Here in Jacksonville, cyclists operate rickshaw bikes to take fans from distant parking lots to the Jaguars' stadium on game day. I think they charge $10 or $20. Is anyone doing that at UNT games?

  44. Please look at some of the nuggets in this thread as feedback, not moaning and groaning. For the people who have upclose parking (MGC) it is difficult to realize what some people who don't go through on gameday. The 81 year old is a perfect example. We do not have a clear system for those with mobility issues. Let's get a clear system for those with mobility issues set and communicated before the next game. The same can be said for very overweight people, people with injuries, people lugging over multiple small children. The bridge is a year away. We have 1 more game with 2 weeks of opportunity. If we wait until next year to address the transfer challenges so be it. But every piece of feedback from people who experience the Mean Green in different ways should be appreciated. Yes our crew plans on providing that feedback to the Athletic department at the end of the year. But what about the athletic department sending out a survey monkey survey or something that solicits raw honest feedback from all season ticket holders. All Mean Green Club members. All one time ticket buyers. Multiple time ticket buyers. Visiting guests. Think about the wealth of information you could mine from simply asking a few targeted questions and an open comments section. Also as a Mean Green guest I want that survey to find me. I want to do as little as possible to provide you my valuable feedback. I am speaking as the casual fan here and not the Mean Green diehard I am. But make it easy for the groups above to participate. If there are extra Mean Green towels or commemorative anything incentivize our guests and get that feedback. For the record my crew will be there at 8:00 AM on 12.3. We will see the same security officer who always asks us if we know the drop off policy (we dig him because we have seen him 5 times this year with the same vehicles and we assure him we know the routine. He is great!) Full on bloody mary bar, brunch tailgate, UNT win and 5-7 record, 1 hour post game wait beverage, departure from Apogee with sad face in tow because Year 1 is over.) GMG

  47. Yep - helluva game and CH almost had their butts handed to them. That in itself is not a bad thing - last year CH blew through the playoffs with huge numbers until they met Henderson in the state championship game - then they hit a little adversity and could not handle it. The game last night reminded me A LOT of the Henderson game last year - except this time this team found a way to win. I hope that helps them the rest of the way. Waco La Vega is a very good team; it was a battle of two 11 - 0 teams that fought hard. La Vega had a 4th and about 6 inches with just over a minute in the game, tied 20 - 20, and ole Sir Calvin and the rest of that defensive line stuffed them - I did not think they could do it. La Vega had successfully run wide on CH all night and I thought that was what they would do in this case (btw, there is another CH defensive lineman that deserves a good look by D-1 teams.....Colton Moorehead, DT/DE. This kid has a tremendous upside in my humble untrained opinion). Then, with just over a minute left and 3rd and whatever, 3 or 4 yards (La Vega called time out following first and second down with hopes of CH punting again out of the end zone - had punted once earlier out of the end zone for only 15 yards, so La Vega had big hopes of a short field), Tucker took the ball toward the left guard, then headed wide and went down the left sideline for, paper says, 93 yards.......and he starting cramping up at the 10 and was tackled as he fell into the end zone. Did I say "helluva game"? Final stats on the two CH running backs committed to UNT: Andrew Tucker - 21 carries for 164 yards - an almost 8-yard average; a 1-yard TD and the 93-Yard TD. He also caught the ball twice for 72 yards receiving. Rex Rollins - 3 carries for 8-yards. There is something going on with Rollins - played very little and that is unusual although it has happened for the 2nd week in a row. I don't know if he has an undisclosed injury or has chapped the coach or what - I will see what I can find out during the week. As for Sir Calvin Wallace - he and the rest of the CH line were stout - La Vega ran wide a lot, but not much yardage up the middle. Sir Calvin was a beast......he is starting to step up. My UNT hope-meter for this kid has gone up a lot over the past two games. Oh - the kid from Corsicana - somebody at UNT is dropping the ball - yeah, I know, booooooo - if they have not already taken a look at this kid. This is from the Corsicana paper this morning: "Yes, tailback Cameron Washington was at it again, rushing for a modern day playoff-record (for CHS) 322 yards on 39 carries, smashing his record from last week. He had four more touchdowns, giving him a school record 37 for the season. He passed Ketric Sanford’s tremendous senior year of 2,616 yards in 1995 for the second best single-season game in the modern era, doing it in the same number of games — 12. Washington has 2,663 yards now this season and needs 99 to break Sanford’s 1994 record of 2,761 yards in a season. Washington has rushed for more than 300 yards in consecutive playoff games, the first to do it once for Corsicana in the modern era, and now the first two do it twice." GMG
