  1. You guys are putting stock in what the dumbest Ponyfans poster (StallionModelT) has to say? This is why I constantly say UNT fans have it wrong. At least half of Ponyfans posters have StallionModelT as a "foe". Ignore him, we do.

  2. If it was't for the fact that I'm an SMU person, I don't think I would find ponyfans a very fun place to go to if I were a UNT guy. A lot of the time they joke around over there, but many times they're very serious in their derisive nature towards UNT. I find that to be completely unjustified and comes from a sense of natural entitlement but also fear of losing to UNT. SMU people just seem to be a cockier bunch (justified or unjustified) than the normal college football fan. Don't blame you guys one bit for being resentful of our fans.

  6. As I look at the conference realignment landscape I am not filled with the unabashed optimism that some here are. I'm not as excited every time I see SMU get one step closer to AQ status. I don't buy that their absence will automatically entitle us to their table scraps. Would it make sense to pick up North Texas so that your league teams could come into the DFW market consistently? Yes. Could schools still recruit DFW WITHOUT having to have a DFW school? Of course. Do I place our chances to landing in CUSA any better than 50/50? Nope. Sooooo, here's what I would propose if I had Dr. Rawlins' and RV's ear. The MWC is soon to snatch Utah St and SJSU from the WAC to replace Boise and Air Force. This will greatly decrease the stubborn attitudes of schools like La Tech. Sure, La Tech will hold onto the dream of CUSA until the bitter end...but I'd be speaking to them through back channels in the meantime so that they're an easy get when reality sets in for them. I'd be reaching out to UTSA and Texas St as well. I know, I know, being with upstarts like them is a fate worse than death...or something like that. But a SBC with divisions where we could play more Louisiana and Texas schools is not any worse than where we sit now, in fact it's better. And you could argue that UTSA will fall off after the first season "honeymoon" is over...but I think being in a league with more local teams would help them to have some staying power.

  9. Why would they get behind them? It is an elitist, private university. There's elitism even among the student body - the scholarship students vs. the trust fund students. SMU will never get the Dallas-area behind them, even as a 2nd team.

  11. If we think this realignment talk is fun , wait until all the schools start readjusting their future football schedules. Some as early as 2012. You might as well throw all your planned future games out the window.

  16. To even suggest that RV and Dr. Rawlins do not know more than some random message board sports fans is simply inane on the face of it. Why is it that when something comes up...anything for that matter...some folks just immediately go to the "UNT is bad, UNT is wrong, UNT doesn't know what it';s doing, UNT has bad staffers, bad coaches who don't know enough to make the best player decisions, and on and on? It just gets so lame after awhile. I can see it now...RV and staff sitting around the conference table on Monday at the staff meeting and RV opens the meeting with "OK, guys, what can we mess up this week? Any suggestions? Make it a biggie. Oh, no suggestions today...well, let's go ask all the experts on GMG.com. They obviously know everything and about everything as well". IT'S RV'"S JOB to look out for the best interests of UNT and UNT Athletics. Why would anyone think he didn't know more than everyone on this board about his own athletic department. Give it a rest, folks. Why would anyone think he would not be making the best decisions he can for UNT given the circumstances and dollars he has to work with under the direction of the president of the university? Every parent on this board knows what it is like to have made a decision based on the information at hand that didn't turn out as well as expected. But, you made the best decision you could based on the information available to you at that time. Second guess yourself, sure, but beat yourself up...no...just move on and do the best you can with that next decision. If you think you will "win 'em all" you are in for a VERY rude awakening. Sometimes there are just things going on that folks on the outside have no idea about...such as limits on dollars, limits on time, instructions from above, meetings being held, strategies developed, etc., etc. It's always easy to say "should have known, or I would have done, or you should have done or that was a bad idea, or what didn't you?", it isn't as easy being the one actually making and doing. Fun to speculate and discuss, yes, indeed, but to constantly indicate that UNT is behind the curve or making no or bad decisions is just plain wrong. It seems to me to be a symptom of the "UNT Family's Attitude" toward UNT. I do not find this same constant criticism coming from the alums and friends of my other universities. It's an attitude that does UNT no good whatsoever in my opinion.

  17. NT has made more progress in athletics in the last decade than it has in the prior life of the program. I guess you may have a point if you are referring to football record but NT has long last put a solid foundation in place with increased funding, better facilities and a supportive administration. I would state that NT has earned it when you compare the investment that NT has recently put into athletic to those of other likely candidates for better conference affiliation.

  18. So just because your defense couldn't stop our offense you think Coach Freeze should have just brought in a local Jr High team to play the second half? Trust me, if he was trying to run the score up he would have. It was pretty obvious by the half that your D couldn't stop us. Sometimes a team does nothing but run their offense the way they normally would and they can't help but score because the opposing defense just can't stop them. This is D-1/FBS football...this is what happens. We have been on the bottom side of lopsided games plenty of times...because we simply couldn't handle our opponents. This new Red Wolves Football team is being coached to play a full game and that is exactly what they did. As for keeping starters in...not entirely true. I didn't hear Coach Freeze make the comment that you claim, but even if he did what does it matter. This is an aggressive defense that is being coached to never let up. Play until the final second ticks off the clock. The fact that we took a knee with over a minute left on the clock actually kind of surprised me considering what Coach has been preaching. If UNT can't handle that then maybe they are in the wrong division. Don't be sore losers ...ASU is a VERY good team this year. You lost...accept it and move on.

  20. Getting visitors to fill our stadium is not as important getting local residents and students to fill it. Get the city of Denton and the campus behind this team, and I could care less if we play some community college from Alaska. But to suggest that we have to invite UTSA or SWTSU-SM in order to get a decent crowd says a lot about our expectations.

  21. I always feel at home when we've got our requisite 2-3 SMU (and at least 1 from a grab bag of UTSA, TX State and La. Tech) threads on the front page of the UNT football forum.

  22. It's one post by one jackwagon poster. Again without them moving up our chances at CUSA/MWC is a lot more slim. He's one of the few posters that make the whole school look bad. I work with and have several SMU friends and they don't have any elitist mindsets like people make SMU out to be. They have their fair share of jackwagons and believe it or not UNT has their fair share too.

  23. I've fallen prey to reading their message board...more so recently. Recently, the fascination(for me) has been to read the thoughts of those that are moving up. Find out what that's like. The fact that they keep kicking us while we are down speaks volumes. Yes, we've got goldenpony and comet that come over here and atleast don't stomp on our heads over there... they seem decent enough. Even offering up words of encouragement. To them I say thank you. That is classy, and I'm sorry for not accepting your words at face value... I personally am going to make it a point to never visit over there again. I've never posted over there, and I would suggest that everybody on this board NEVER POST THERE AGAIN. Just leave them be. When we play them in a couple of years, who knows what the situation will be. We may be better... we may be the same. who knows... they could be down with bad win/loss records over the next season or so, or...they could be killing it. The bottom line is, if you go over there read and/or post, you are asking for their venom. DON'T DO IT. We should NOT care what they think. This is our domain here. This is our safe haven. Lets stay here and enjoy the positives we have now. Like it or not, we have to be patient(yet again) in an impatient/knee jerk/'fix it yesterday' world. In the mean time, we just need to keep our heads low and work on building a fun atmosphere around our athletic programs as alums. We know we love our university. We want SOOOOO much to see good things out of it. Leave the SMU people to themselves. The other universities that have moved up have handled it better than them... I'm sure other fanbases have handled it worse... whatever. Now lets focus and kick the ever living sh!t out of the bye week. I know I will personally commit to having a touchdown beer every 15 minutes starting at 6:00 pm this Saturday...and won't finish until about 9:45'ish that evening. By my beer count, we will be winning 63 - 0 before I start taking a knee on the td beers. WHO'S WITH ME?????

  24. So why is Patton even here? How could our guys not know that he is an academic problem, especially since that is why Grambling has a postseason ban!?

  25. Does anyone really care that SMU is going to the Big East? I think this is going to be a disaster in the long run for them, because what the BE will become is CUSA v2.0 without a AQ spot. If they think that Rutgers and Cincy are going to fill their stadium then good luck with that.

  26. I didn't see him getting a lot of support. There are several things that he needs to consider. Notre Dame may feel the same toward SMU as he feels toward us. They need as many butts in the seats and wins as they can. Highly unlikely that they'll get many playing Notre Dame consistently. They stand a much better chance of both by playing us. This is one comment from one supporter. Ignore it and consider the source. We've said a lot worse about them to my chagrin. There are also many on this board that feel the same way towards Texas State and UTSA. It never makes you taller when you try to push others down.

  27. I don't think you understand probabilistic outcomes when you only throw stats for 3 players into the model, and 1 of those hasn't played in 2 years. Maybe he does have an accurate prediction? Why don't we wait and see? You're sentencing a man to death with no evidence yet. In fact, the only hard evidence at this point, would be on his side.

  28. Anyone who can't admire what UTSA has done in one season at the turnstiles of which Denton and Denton County has never done is hiding their heads in the sand but.......let the Road Runners have a series of losing seasons and between the 4'th and 5'th losing season in a row then get back and check their attendance box scores. After 7 losing seasons we're still hovering over 20,000 per home game so how great is all this going to be when we start winning and beating a few somebodys? UTSA is still located (like TSU-SM) in the long, long shadow of UT-Austin and that is almost tantamout to how the Cowboys have been to SMU, TCU and UNT for decades. TCU has found the winning formula and that is winning and beating a few somebody's which got them ranked. SMU? I think their fans will have no more interest in Big East opponents just as their emtpy stadium indicated a lack of real interest in most of their CUSA opponents, too. SMU and a couple of others bad attendance during their SWC days and forever depending on large public university traveling fans coming to Dallas to pad attendance numbers was a prime reason the Southwest Conference broke up in the first place. Frank Broyles of Arkansas listed that toward the top of his list before he took the Hogs out and into the SEC. North Texas has 28,000 undergraduates and a large Denton County base from which to draw fans once Dan McCarney gets our Mean Green ship truly launched along with a solid, well planned across the board position by position recruiting program he is putting in place. Still say it but too many DB's, RB's and WR's recruits with so few linemen during the 5 year Dodge era has left its mark on us even at the SBC level. Good news is this can change rather quickly if we hit on some key good recruits and maybe still mix in a healthy number of JUCO's without going overboard with too many from that group. Best news is the Apogee Experience on Game Day in the Mean Green Village strategically located between those 2 Texas interstates and our Game Days being more fun than should be allowed by law! North Texas really does have something very special with this new football stadium of ours that even our visitors are most all in full agreement of its uniqueness and being special, too. I defer to the 2 gent's statements below in my signature box.

  34. he is feeling guilty knowing that when they and Air Force leave they will be replaced by 2 WAC schools, SJSU and Utah State, which only leaves La. Tech, New Mexico State, and Idaho left as current WAC members. Funny he didn't mention the Vandals.

  35. I normally find myself taking a more pessimistic role when it comes to my sports teams. But, I really believe that we are more than likely CUSA bound, unless OUR AD and Pres have other plans. I do believe that the potential TV markets are driving a lot of these changes. And, I think that CUSA is going to prefer adding schools that already have top notch stadiums and facilities in place or in progress. There are no guarantees when a school says they are expecting to upgrade their facilities soon. Look how long it took us. I don't believe that our recent downturn in FB is going to cause a problem. Our athletic budget is up and potential is going to factor in large when it comes to CUSA additions (if any). Even though I consider myself a pessimist, I think there is a 50% chance we get into CUSA if they only add 1 team. If they add 3 teams, I bet our changes are better than 80%. However, there is always a slight chance that our leaders now see the CUSA as potentially not being much of an upgrade and they may have their sights set on staying in a strengthened Sun Belt or perhaps even the MWC. My money is on us getting an invite to CUSA. It just makes to much sense all the way around.

  39. Statement from the NCAA: "We would love to give Justin Patton eligibility, but there was an issue with the appeal itself. On the "Appelant" line was written the words, "University of North Texas". We request that you fix this problem or we will be forced to deny Roger Franklin eligibiility as well. Here at the NCAA we do what is best for student athletes...unless they are students at North Texas. Sincerely, Douche McDouche NCAA Appeal Chairman"

  40. First, why does someone from Boise State know what CUSA is thinking? That makes no sense what so ever. I would like to know the context in which he said it as I don't think that would be a normal part of the breifing about BSU's board approving him to search for a new conference. Second, UTEP would totally flip out - their relationship with NMSU is similar to La Tech and La-Mo.

  41. I still don't understand everyone's fascination with UTSA. Attendance is bad enough playing schools called Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Arkansas-Little Rock, and Florida International. It makes the whole league sound like Division III. And I really don't understand the call to invite Louisiana-Lafayette to CUSA with us. We want our next conference to be an upgrade. And if we stay in the Belt, for God's sake let's try to expand with the two closest WAC teams (NMSU and LA Tech) that don't sound like a glorified community college.

  42. Who is to say that will all the realignment "stuff" going on that the Sun Belt doesn't come out of all this with a few new faces that would add some pizazz and status to the conference that it doesn't have now? The chips are no where near through falling and as some have mentioned here, some decent schools seem to be left holding the bag in all this. It would not be the end of the world to have a reconstituted Sun Belt Conference that adds some teams (maybe loses a few as well) and moves up the food chain a bit. It's something it seems no one here has even mentioned. I cannot imagine that the Sun Belt office folks are just sitting around thinking that none of this realignment crap has any effect on them...not to mention the conference athletic departments. Some you you folks give our administration little to no credit for anything always pointing what YOU think are their failures while never even seemingly opening your eyes to all the positive that has taken place both on and off the field of play at UNT. To think that both the Sun Belt and UNT are just sitting idly by twitching their thumbs is just nuts. This is not even to mention the other AD's around the league. These are strange and interesting times in college athletics these days. I'd like to believe that "our guys and gals" are on top of all this as much as anyone. The idea that the Sun Belt could emerge stronger and better is definitely not out of the realm of possibility. In my humble opinion, that is.....

  44. If anyone is planning on NOT using their red/blue parking passes for the Western Kentucky game, I am offering to buy them from you. I've organized an end-of-the-season team party for the fall Little League team I am coaching and will be bringing about 20 parents & kids to that game. For most of them it will be their first time to go to a North Texas game and the more cars we can get in for tailgating the easier it will be. Start 'em young & hopefully they get hooked down the road!

  47. Sorry...but having actually been down to Zuccotti I can tell you that's not the case. The general sentiment that I experienced (and I'm sure this will be readily dismissed as my own bias) is quite simply the feeling that something is wrong...be it with our present political structure and discourse, our financial institutions or the general disparity in power and influence (not necessarily money) between the 1% and the 99% (simply to use the parlance of our times...I personally don't like the terms). People dismiss the movement as being misguided and lacking focus because of their unwillingness to sound-byte or slogan their agenda and in our 15 second attention span culture that gets written off as incoherent. It's bigger than that...and frankly, in my opinion, the burden shouldn't fall to the general public to outline an agenda for effective change. As for the anti-Capitalistic sentiment...it exists...however I'd contend that most have no interest in ending Capitalism, rather ending un-bridled Capitalism. I know you personally trust in a largely deregulated market-place. Fact is though, many don't...and many view this current recession as the product of allowing so few to effect so many...be it through speculation, manipulation or influencing political policy...without legitimate oversight. As for the anti-Semetic signage...it's an effing travesty...but the fact is that any open gathering or movement has the potential to become a forum for any moron...and these morons make lovely fodder for our agenda-driven media outlets whose success is predicated upon their wonderful ability to play to the nation's aforementioned 15 second attention span. It happened to the Tea Party and it's happening here...and to use your words, I too "think there is far too much focus on what some do and far too little focus on what most of them want."
