Here is some proof that the regular season championship is not "mythical"! John Hedlund was also named SBC Coach of the Year Today. Go Mean Green! This post has been promoted to an article7 points

By 4pm Saturday, they'll realize it was UNT that screwed their homecoming.5 points

Does anyone remember when Chris Simms and Major Applewhite were at Texas. One was taller and had the stronger arm ( not to mention the NFL blood lines). The other just won football games. I would also like to propose a theory, which I mostly believe in. And that theory has to do with coach's egos. Despite their protests to the contrary, coaches are very aware of the opinions of the rank and file fans (especially these days). And just like Doctors, Lawyers, and CEO's of big companies, their egos can be so big that they automatically dismiss any critical remarks or suggestions that come from the ranks of the "regular people". In many cases to their own detriment and downfall (which is how big egos should always end up). So, I think that when a significant amount of critical remarks come from the "regular" fan base about coaching decisions (ie, who to play or not) most Coaches let their egos take over, and players who otherwise could make a difference in a game are not given their opportunity. And all just because of ego.4 points

Exactly. I'm not saying that Vito is wrong. It's just that I don't want to be reminded of the last six years ad nauseum. Look at the first five questions posed. That pretty much says it for me so why continue doing it? Elevating DD to a greatness continually actually has the opposite effect on me. And, is there a soul here that does not know of Dodge's sorry record? Is there anyone that enjoys being constantly reminded of it? For pete's sake Brett, base your comparisons on the beginning of Coach Mac's era. We all know that he didn't start with a load of talent. An occasional reference to bygone eras is fine but I certainly don't enjoy a steady diet to the tune that I've turned you off.3 points

Vito tells the truth...what's wrong with that? when pointing out that the dodge era is the worst in history, is he just a bitter writer or a factual writer? he is factual, as dodge had the worst winning percentage in history. Thats just 1 example of stuff people on this board complain about him. Now im not saying i agree with everything he has ever written, i have found more times then not he give an acurate picture of UNT athletics. Were lucky to still have a beat writer with all the cuts the newspaper industry went through. I think he does a good job.3 points

Personally, I find him to be pretty much on the mark. But, that is my point of view and I can understand how others may feel differently. I don't know if he loves DD or hates TD so much, but it is hard to say much positive about the prior 4 years and at least some positive things can be said about the DD era (four bowl games, crushing Baylor, etc.), though I think DD had reached the limits of what he could achieve at UNT. It's is hard to see how anyone would not think the glass is currently half empty/half full with the program at this point in time. Some positives....some negatives...lots of work to do.3 points

Stull knows who we are…. Keep in mind that UTEP and UNT go head-to-head on many players, so for him to come out support UNT might not be something he wants to do. From an Alumni standpoint, UTEP really wants to have games in the Dallas area. I believe UTEP would support UNT joining C-USA. In addition, you have to think that either C-USA or the MWC would still want to have a D/FW presence. My only hope is that our “powers-that-be” are doing a lot of work behind the scenes.3 points

Remember back in the mid-aughts when the Cowboys had this scrappy Romo kid and a coach named Bill Parcells? And Parcells kept insisting he saw giant red flags in practice about this guy that had to be fixed before he put him on the field? Now, I'm hazy, but didn't he come in and produce results while continuing to do some of the things that irritated his coach? Wasn't Parcells beaten up to high hell despite his skins on the wall and the benefit of hind-sight to make it look like he had a point? Wasn't there another QB on the roster Parcells had a previous relationship with? Was he the best QB on the roster? Should he have been developed more carefully and the final bad habits ironed out? Has this approach held him back in his career today? I was no big fan of Parcells, but looking back, his point is a lot more obvious to me now than it was then. It's crazy, but maybe coaches do know best and see things we miss while we look for guys to throw TDs.3 points

We understand the concept. We also understand that during games McNulty is awful. It's hard to imagine Osborn being worse. So, give him a shot as well. There's nothing to lose. We already know McNulty can't move the offense until we're being blown out and the opponent takes their foot off the gas. See? You see what happened there? You restated your argument and I restated mine. I don't agree with you, and you don't agree with me...and, that's fine. And, yet...McNulty still can't move the ball during games no matter what he does in practice.3 points

I would love for North Texas to play in Houston and New Orleans every other year...and have another Texas team (UTEP in addition to Rice). We would actually get a little coverage in the Houston paper. As it is now, the Galveston paper covers North Texas better than the Houston Chronicle does.2 points

On a side note, I think NT could be competitive right now with UAB, Tulane, Rice, etc in football. Also, it would be a great move in hoops. Memphis is always a power and Marshall, So. Miss, Utep and Uab all have good programs. Add NT and its another quality basketball team.2 points
-
Hey guys, Marshall alum, booster and fan here. I floated the idea of adding North Texas as one of the three teams to replace the teams we are losing on our board. I think most Herd fans would be fine with you all taking SMUs place in the west division... Maybe add FIU and Ohio in the east and shift So. Miss to the west. That would get CUSA back to 12 teams and add three quality markets/fan bases. How does this sound to you all?... Cusa East... ECU, Marshall, UAB, Memphis, FIU, Ohio Cusa West... North Texas, So. Miss, Rice, Utep, Tulane, Tulsa And yes, the alliance still happens. The Wac loses Boise, but adds Utah State to have 10 teams. Conference champs still play each other.2 points

I'd say Vito has been pretty much right about things thus far this season. I don't like some of the things he writes, but again, these things are pretty much hitting the nail on the head. It sux, but the truth is a killer these days... the folks that do remain faithful are questioning their faith, and the t-shirt alumns with UNT degrees are moving further and further away from being a part of the solution... dark days, Vito is taking some of the heat because everyone wants to kill the messenger...2 points

Yep, and all of those foolish dingbats who questioned TD when he brought in all of his high school coaching buddies to run a D1A program his first year should be shot. No one should ever question authority, because they are the authority, and nothing can be done about it. The right thing to do is to quietly sit back and passively let the "smart people" run the show, because they are smarter and more ethical than the rest of us and never make mistakes. This is the philosophy which made our country great.2 points

If we do stay in the Sun Belt, I just hope with everything in me that they add UTSA and Texas State. I think inviting them to join us would do more for us than keeping them down. We NEED Texas schools in our conference. Having this as an SBC west division actually looks really good to me...and other than the "prestige" factor of conference USA, I would rather have these state schools. North Texas Texas State UTSA Arkansas State ULM ULL This would almost surely kill the WAC.2 points

I cannot agree with this more. If you're in a position of power (media) and you have a differing opinion from a large group of united people, in order to make their entire movement sound ridiculous, you find the small group of idiots in their group and blow them up to make them represent the entirety of the group (Hello, Bill O'Riley & Bill Maher). There's no doubt that the Tea Party has some good points if you look beyond the idiots that are brought to the forefront... same goes for the occupiers. Our government and our economy are set up to be the best in the world. The problem is... our government officials cannot be trusted, and our economy is built on squeezing every last cent possible in profits for shareholders and lowest prices for consumers... this, to the detriment of US jobs and product quality. It's a broken system. It needs to be fixed. Different people have different ideas on how to fix it. Are some of them crazy? Sure. Are they ALL crazy? No.2 points

Sorry...but having actually been down to Zuccotti I can tell you that's not the case. The general sentiment that I experienced (and I'm sure this will be readily dismissed as my own bias) is quite simply the feeling that something is wrong...be it with our present political structure and discourse, our financial institutions or the general disparity in power and influence (not necessarily money) between the 1% and the 99% (simply to use the parlance of our times...I personally don't like the terms). People dismiss the movement as being misguided and lacking focus because of their unwillingness to sound-byte or slogan their agenda and in our 15 second attention span culture that gets written off as incoherent. It's bigger than that...and frankly, in my opinion, the burden shouldn't fall to the general public to outline an agenda for effective change. As for the anti-Capitalistic sentiment...it exists...however I'd contend that most have no interest in ending Capitalism, rather ending un-bridled Capitalism. I know you personally trust in a largely deregulated market-place. Fact is though, many don't...and many view this current recession as the product of allowing so few to effect so many...be it through speculation, manipulation or influencing political policy...without legitimate oversight. As for the anti-Semetic signage...it's an effing travesty...but the fact is that any open gathering or movement has the potential to become a forum for any moron...and these morons make lovely fodder for our agenda-driven media outlets whose success is predicated upon their wonderful ability to play to the nation's aforementioned 15 second attention span. It happened to the Tea Party and it's happening here...and to use your words, I too "think there is far too much focus on what some do and far too little focus on what most of them want."2 points

If a coaching staff lets the angry mob determine playing time decisions, they shouldn't be coaching. How many of us are running their practices, calling their plays, and have 30 years of college football coaching experience? Didn't we all prepare ourselves for a 4 or 5 win season? I personally predicted 5 wins. Predictions are worth nothing, I know...other than maybe setting our expectations coming in. We are all very disappointed with some of the games this year, guys(especially DT's) leaving the team, and this latest round of realignment not involving us... We are ALL pissed. I get it. This fanbase thinking they can make better decisions than this experienced coaching staff is absolutely laughable. I seriously don't know why I keep letting these stupid threads draw me offsides... but here I am again. I can't express to you how silly these threads look. I guess this is just explained as we don't have much good news lately with all that is going on with us and around us. Here's to Meaner, Greener Pastures in the near future. Maybe this is just the way you guys deal with disappointment. I don't know. Seems pretty silly to me...2 points

When (if) this comes to pass I won't cry. I'll only be able to laugh...because it will hurt too much that we played cheerleader while both TCU and SMU went to AQ conferences and we assumed their leftovers would elevate us.2 points

Why ? So they can travel cross country to play a game. Oh yea and keep the Wyoming market and forget DFW and FLORIDA !!! Get real.2 points

Good for Houston, as they have earned the right, IMHO,to move up to an AQ league, but SMU deserves to be in the Lone Star Conference.2 points
-
Hopefully this turns out well for us, but please allow me to barf at the thought of SMU "deserving" or "earning" this invitation to an AQ conference. Please. Their own players publicly lament the complete lack of fan/community support that they have. I just don't understand continuing to turn over the DFW market to a school that has, both recently and historically, never been able to garner legitimate fan support worthy of what is expected of an AQ conference school, despite the fact that they've been given every opportunity and advantage. Should we not move on and up from this, it will be a nut kick to end all nut kicks.2 points

That's not exactly true. Texas and OU have Elite 11s backing up Elite 11s. In our case, we have injured starters, and their backups without much, if any experience. So, what is the harm is seeing if one will fail as badly as the other already has. None. The answer is, none. (Also, we have to pretend Osborn has no college experience whatsoever to say he has no experience. The truth is otherwise. He has a whole year of JUCO experience where he led a school to a 9-1 record.)2 points

Let UTEP go to the MWC and CUSA pick up La Tech. 5 hours difference in driving time and not a huge difference in competitiveness or name recognition. both are 4-4 right now.1 point

I'm not disagreeing with that, but I think the quotes from UTEP's president that ArkStFan was alluding to had more to do with the specific schools in C-USA.1 point

It won't get AQ status but it should be able to get a better tv deal than the MWC or CUSA have on their own. The main thing that this will do is that it will get MWC out of their terrible tv deal.1 point

An Aggie friend of mine told me they plan on playing home and home series every year with SMU and Houston and he does not believe they will play any other TX schools. He also claims that the Big 12 expansion team or teams had to agree not to play any SEC schools. As a side note he said that after next year they will renovate Kyle field and play all 2013 games in Reliant.1 point

THEY don't even know what their agenda is. It's all over the place. Some are socialists, some are communists, some are regular Americans trying to make their lives better, and some are just kids with nothing better to do. They're not. The average effective tax rates are as follows: Top 1 % - 24.0% Top 5% - 20.4% Top 10% - 18.0% Top 25% - 14.6% Top 50% - 12.5% Bottom 50% - 1.85% The rich pay a hell of a lot more in taxes, in both percentages and raw dollars, than the average American. Source: The Tax Foundation It is not tax rates that are killing jobs - it is uncertainty in the markets.1 point

I will say though some of those kis are really dumb. I read about one kid that was complaining about having like 90,000 in student loans because he wanted to go to a ridiculously expensive private school. That's your own fault, should have gone to state school.1 point

These people need to refine (or maybe actually define) their narrative. I think it's idiotic that people are saying the occupy wall street folks are all for redistributing wealth and basically just trying to push their socialis views. That's a simplistic and wrong view of what these people are protesting. I'm sure there is a portion of the group that is BUT I don't think socialist take over is the actual agenda. They need to be more clear to gain support, they need to make people realize they are against citizens united v. Fec, which is one of the most ridiculous decisions ever made, corporations are not people (and if you think that, you're dumb. End of story), they need to talk about the fact that deregulating the banks was and is a terrible terrible idea and is partially to blame for why we are at this place we are now (Fannie and Freddie can be thrown in there too, I realize that). And how can people argue that a person that makes a obscene amount of money should be taxed less than the average Joe? Yeh I get it, they probably worked hard to get there, I don't think they should be taxed a ridiculous percantage amount more than most, just maybe the same amount as regular people, yes they look like they are paying more because they may be paying millions, that's relative, for some of these people a million is equivalent to $100 for someone like us middle false folk, sucks to lose it but it's certainly not going to break me by any means. And the job creator thing is bunk. They've had what, 8 year with the bush tax cuts? Where are the jobs? I just don't understand how people can be so against this movement. This is not some Bolshevik revolution like some seem to think.1 point
