  1. Those were Osborn's game stats....what were his practice stats?

  2. Ok honestly I am tired of the negativity on the Football board and I also am counting down the days to Nov. 9th in the Pit so... I thought a prediction thread would be nice to see what others think about our team.. Here is mine.. I think from a fan/student standpoint I have been around these guys more than anyone (made final 3 in the walkons that were held and attended 3 days of practice before coach Jones decided to add no one) Here is my take... were young yes but my goodness I have never been around this kind of athleticism! last year athletes compared to this years are night and day.. we had great guard play last yr and were fairly good shooters.. and george was good 5 man that could finish around the rim.. but my goodness guys this team gets up and down the floor with the best of them.. 8 to 10 guys play above the rim, dont be suprised if you see more dunks this year than in years past.. Now by no means am I correlating this to wins just throwing it out there that we are quick, tall, athletic and can jam with the best of them... Niko has been a very pleasant suprise for me personally cause I didnt expect him to step and play like he did in practice while also being a leader.. But setting all this stuff aside, the fact is were young.. real young, does that mean we cant win the belt, go dancing and shock the nation... no but at the same time there may be some building blocks along way.. the fact that alzee, ked and zo are healthy and back is huge to me and goes overlooked for some reason.. Obviously everyone knows of Tony and what he can do but I know one thing.. Chris Jones is a stinkin stud.. he will be an amazing player before his time ends here at UNT.. Also Jordan Willams is smooth and goes up with the best of them.. Trey Norris might me the quickest guard in the Belt behind Taylor of FAU.. his decesion making is beautiful and has the makings of a great pass first PG.. Brandoon Walton is a pure shooter, when open can be deadly, I dont think he will play much but still can have big impact.. Forrest is a work in progress.. I also think he gets limited time while learning the game and becoming more crisp.. Roger Franklin and Justin Patton will be the difference makers (if cleared by NCAA) these guys are experinced adn Roger is a straight leader.. everything about him spells leader.. he gets after you and never stops till practice is over.. Roger was in the rivals top 150 for a reason, his work under the boards is a thing of beauty and his Defense alone makes him special.. all and all though I feel we have the most talent in the belt by years end (once agian most talent doesnt mean championships) but with how coachable these kids are and Coach Jones knowledge for the game I am confident going into this year if nothing else.. My projected starting 5 (Pre-Tony) PG- Chris Jones SG- Alzee Williams (either he or chris vice versa both ways) SF- Justin Patton aka JP PF- Roger Franklin C- Ked.. Dont be suprised if you see Jacob Holmen in the starting lineup early though due to the fact he knows the offense and has been working real hard this offseason.. Cant wait guys its gonna be a fun season with hopefully some trophys and nets to go along with it.. Prediction- Nonconfrence wins over Tech, LSU and Texas(ya i said it), UTA, Sam Houston St and others losses to MS ST and LMU and one game we just dont show up for (gut feelings on these games) Non conference record of 10 and 3 (drinking that green koolaid.. you bet ya) Confrence Record- 13 and 3 - Tony comes and brings his thunder.. we lose 3 close ones all on the road.. (If you make me choose which ones I will go with FAU, Southern Alabama and Denver.. That leaves our record at 23 and 6 heaading into tourny time.. 1 gallons worth of green koolaid and this is how I feel.. Hot springs comes and goes and your mean green are going dancing again.. GMG! lets have a great year!!

  3. Rationally, there should be no reason to believe. But, don't you have to look at the real evidence? At Tulsa, McNulty threw two touchdown to Tulsa defensive backs, and McCarney kept him in the game. At Arkansas State, McNulty couldn't move the team until it already out of hand and Arkansas State had backups in. At Alabama, Osborn moved the ball in junk time...and was pulled after getting 1st and Goal from the 2...and McNulty couldn't deliver the final two yards for a score. At Tulsa, Osborn moved the ball and scored in junk time. We already understand that both QBs can move the ball against other school's backups. So, what does that leave? That leaves is, how does each QB perform when the game is still in question. We already know the answer to that questions with McNulty. He cannot deliver against the best of even a Sun Belt Conference opponent's defense. We do not know whether Osborn can deliver against an opponent's best on defense because he simply hasn't been given a shot. And, we don't have blinders on. We watch football before we go to the North Texas game. We watch football after. Years and year, decades and decades. We know if a kid isn't getting the offense to move, coaches will pull him and give someone else a try. So, then we come to our situation. We see a quarterback failing and a coach continuing to let him fail to the detriment of the competitiveness of the team overall. If Osborn fails as badly as McNulty has with the game on the line, fine. Then we know they both need work. Until such time as we see it, all we know is that McNulty can't do it at game time. When one quarterback is failing in a blowout, many of us believe there's no harm is seeing what the other guy can do. It's not rocket science. If schools as big as Texas can do it, surely little ol' North Texas can do it as well.

  4. The Sun Belt Soccer tournament starts tomorrow. Here is what the bracket looks like: 1) North Texas 8) Troy 4) Western Kentucky 5) Middle Tennessee (Host) 3) Denver 6) South Alabama 2) Florida International 7) Arkansas State North Texas plays at 4pm CT tomorrow afternoon. I'm buying the tourney pass to watch online, so I'll be posting updates for people who might be interested. NT defeated Troy 4-1 at home earlier this year. The only team in the tournament that NT lost to was FIU (1-0 on the road). We are on the better side of the bracket, but MTSU is always tough at home, and I expect them to get past WKU. Go Mean Green!

  5. That's not exactly true. Texas and OU have Elite 11s backing up Elite 11s. In our case, we have injured starters, and their backups without much, if any experience. So, what is the harm is seeing if one will fail as badly as the other already has. None. The answer is, none. (Also, we have to pretend Osborn has no college experience whatsoever to say he has no experience. The truth is otherwise. He has a whole year of JUCO experience where he led a school to a 9-1 record.)

  6. next week maybe someone can ask Coach if we have to wait until Season 4 for him to win a road game like he did at ISU.

  7. States CLEARLY Thompson is number 1, McNulty 2 and Osborn 3. Doesn't pay attention to outside; knows who can play through evaluation as does Chico. I'm going to take Coach Mac's evaluation over anyone on this board till I see someone with the football credentials to match him. Please tell me how many times you have seem McNutly throw a pass? Now how many times have you seen Osborne throw a pass? Now compare those answers to how many times Mac and Chico have seen them in action over the course of Spring Ball, Summer Workouts, Fall Camp, and all the practices since the season started. I'm going to guess it's not even 1/100 of the amount they have seen.

  8. Of all the bad posts I've read, that one takes the prize. Wow. I really doubt we need that kind of attitude. With a chance to finish at or close to 500 this year, it's a pretty substantial turnaround. I know everyone expects instant 9-3 or 10-2, but seriously, the team has shown MASSIVE improvement. Now, we just need to get the horses.

  9. The best part (in my opinion) is them saying that Pterodactyls cannot see the color green, so wearing green shirts is the only way to truly be safe, and that Pterodactyls are most active on Friday. I think this is freakin brilliant.

  10. Both Wallace and Osborn were signed to other schools before going JUCO. Wallace with Oregon State and Osborn with Georgia Southern. Wallace's first year JUCO stats Sacramento City JC: 106 of 155 for 1,398 yards, 7 TDs/Unknown INTs - 25 rushes for 330 yards and 13 TD Osborn's first (and only) JUCO year stats Northwest Mississippi CC: 181 of 295 for 2,014 yards, 18 TDs/12 INT - 33 rushes for 78 yards and 3 TDs The only unknown here is Wallace's Year One INT total. But, as far as comparison, Osborn threw the ball almost 30 times a game last season during his only JUCO year. He was responsible for 21 TDs. Wallace threw half as many times as Osborn during his initial JUCO season. Passing and rushing, he accounted for 20 TDs. Osborn's school went 9-1, Wallace's went 9-2. Both led winners. Look, the plain truth is that Osborn has more experience than McNulty. He's got a year of, at least, JUCO ball under his belt. And, at a school who threw it around. I have a hard time believing Canales offense is so far out there that Osborn hasn't picked it up to the same degree McNulty is said to have. Also, if you're into numbers, Osborn was a 3-star recruit. So, it's not like he was some stealth guy sitting out there the way Derek Thompson was when Dodge revealed his "secret" commitment. It's hard to believe this 3-star recruit who threw almost 300 passes as a JUCO last season is so far behind this kid from Iowa that he can't even get on the playing field. 12. You think coach Bowen would throw Chad Polk in to replace Orr? I mean, Polk looks like he will be a good MLB in the future. Sure, January is a Sr. and is probably a better player, but Polk is the future right? Heck no! We'll see January out there at MLB at Troy. And why? Because we are trying to win the game. Just pray that Thompson comes back healthy for the Troy game and he does not go out again. We already know McNulty will not be winning any games for us this year when he is playing QB.

  13. We will lose every game Thompson doesn't start if McNulty is the replacement. We've already seen that. He isn't a good quarterback at this point in his career. I'm sorry that we seem to have hired a coach who is stubborn about quarterbacks again. What counts is what happens during the games, not what happens during practice. We are stuck in a situation where we have three quarterbacks - Thompson, McNulty, and Osborn - who each had only one FBS-level scholarship offer, North Texas. Thompson had one other FCS offer, Osborn had two, McNulty had zero. Osborn's two FCS offers came from schools that throw the ball around quite a bit. Tennessee-Martin has thrown it 30 time per game this season. Murray State has thrown 45 times per games so far. These were school that wing it around and wanted Osborn on board. We will be forced to watch more bad quarterbacking for the remainder of the season. We shouldn't flinch, I suppose, because we've seen nothing but bad quarterbacking for seven seasons in a row. But, we're not as blind as Dan McCarney wants - or Todd Dodge, or Darrell Dickey wanted - us to be. North Texas football isn't the only football we've seen in our lives. We know what good quarterbacking looks like; what McNulty does during games ain't it. We will finish 3-9 if Thompson keeps getting injured and McCarney keeps insisting on throwing McNulty out there. As unfair as it is to the seniors who were asked to rededicate themselves at a higher level, and who watched teammates booted for not buying in enough, the coaching staff has mailed it in offensively for 2011. If it weren't for Bowen and the defense, there would be nothing more to watch this season.

  15. I got stories too. There was a kid named Tim Tebow who was a 3rd string QB. The coaches said that he was clearly the 3rd string QB, and that it wasn't even close. He got in a few times in mop up duty and did ok. The fans start ranting and raving. This goes on for weeks/months on end. Coaches continue to say "we see the competition everyday in practice and we're staying with the pecking order we have". Fans continue to ask for the "chosen one" to be brought up the depth chart. How's that worked out for everyone?

  16. Difference between us and WKU is that if Patton and Franklin are both deemed eligible I'd expect us to only start 1 freshman (Chris Jones) and have just 1 other in the rotation (Jordan Williams)...not counting Mitchell as a freshman. WKU may well start 3 from day 1 (Gordon, Kaspar and Fant) and have 1 or 2 more in the rotation. I think they could have a lot more in the way of growing pains than UNT. I'm not sure how anybody can overlook FAU. They went 13-3 in conference last season and return 7 of their top 8 scorers including the best backcourt in the conference. UNT may well have beat them in Hot Springs, but that's no reason what-so-ever to dismiss them. They're talented and well coached. Even without Adams, ASU looks good. MTSU is potentially loaded...so that means Kermit Davis will coach them to a .500 record.

  18. These people need to refine (or maybe actually define) their narrative. I think it's idiotic that people are saying the occupy wall street folks are all for redistributing wealth and basically just trying to push their socialis views. That's a simplistic and wrong view of what these people are protesting. I'm sure there is a portion of the group that is BUT I don't think socialist take over is the actual agenda. They need to be more clear to gain support, they need to make people realize they are against citizens united v. Fec, which is one of the most ridiculous decisions ever made, corporations are not people (and if you think that, you're dumb. End of story), they need to talk about the fact that deregulating the banks was and is a terrible terrible idea and is partially to blame for why we are at this place we are now (Fannie and Freddie can be thrown in there too, I realize that). And how can people argue that a person that makes a obscene amount of money should be taxed less than the average Joe? Yeh I get it, they probably worked hard to get there, I don't think they should be taxed a ridiculous percantage amount more than most, just maybe the same amount as regular people, yes they look like they are paying more because they may be paying millions, that's relative, for some of these people a million is equivalent to $100 for someone like us middle false folk, sucks to lose it but it's certainly not going to break me by any means. And the job creator thing is bunk. They've had what, 8 year with the bush tax cuts? Where are the jobs? I just don't understand how people can be so against this movement. This is not some Bolshevik revolution like some seem to think.

  19. Decision making, McNulty has 3 INT's = 2 returned for TD's and the other was thrown in the Red Zone. Outside of garbage time McNulty did nothing against Tulsa and ASU, he also bungled the AL drive headed by Osborne inside the Red Zone. Also how many plays Mcnulty has compared to Osborne is very telling.

  21. I think that we're totally missing the boat on who should be getting PT under center. Who has the highest completition percentage, who has the highest QB rating, who is averaging the most yards per completition, who is the best runner? This guy is clearly the best option. This guy is James Hamilton.

  25. Garret Gilbert was the better QB at Texas during spring ball, summer workouts and fall practice, but he didn't get it done during the games so a change was made. People just don't understand why Osbourne isn't getting a chance when McNulty has proved to be completely ineffective.

  29. THEY don't even know what their agenda is. It's all over the place. Some are socialists, some are communists, some are regular Americans trying to make their lives better, and some are just kids with nothing better to do. They're not. The average effective tax rates are as follows: Top 1 % - 24.0% Top 5% - 20.4% Top 10% - 18.0% Top 25% - 14.6% Top 50% - 12.5% Bottom 50% - 1.85% The rich pay a hell of a lot more in taxes, in both percentages and raw dollars, than the average American. Source: The Tax Foundation It is not tax rates that are killing jobs - it is uncertainty in the markets.

  30. Really? I consider myself quite moderate and open to lots of solutions. I noticed you decided to "not bother" when I asked why you cited a study that claimed "80% of all new income created in the US has gone to the top 1%," which was based on a ludicrously small statistical sample. In order to have a substantive debate, you have to get through the talking points.

  31. It feels like a txt message to me. Maybe the argument stands up on it's its own for you but to me the argument looses loses credibility when someone doesn't capitalize proper nouns, which is what unt UNT is.

  36. Well with this post its pretty clear you're a little too stuck to the right vs left narrative that has overtaken any substantive debate, so I guess I'll throw you in the category with UNT Flyer and just not bother. We're still on the same side dude, the richest of the rich are doing everything they can to drown out our voices with $$$. Maybe one day you'll see it to.

  43. I hate to be contradictory here, but students athletes are broke and work their butts off for their scholarships. The athletes are the real "have nots." My brother was a full-ride athlete and it was always tough for him. We need to support this, win football games, put butts in the stands, and get into a better conference. There's no reason UNT shouldn't be able to hang with the big boys and keep up with paying for things like this. This simply won't be a problem for us. And honestly, I care more about the student athletes across the NCAA than about whether or not FAU and similar teams can keep up with the cost of meeting their athletes' needs.
