Ryan Aplin is the best QB in the Sun Belt. Fortunately for us, we have the best defense in the Sun Belt (yes, you read that correctly). I strongly suspect that we put a spy on Aplin, maybe Herron, and if we contain his rushing, which I suspect we will, the score will be... UNT 27 ASU 24 Go Mean Green!2 points

We fire on all cylinders, both sides of the ball and special teams doesn't do what it did last week. NT 35 ASU 17 ASU is good, but I think we turned a corner.2 points

Chapel Hill 51 – Rusk 7 UNT commits: Sir Calvin Wallace – played with great enthusiasm; power rushed and disrupted the offense to a great degree. I do not have specifics in terms of sacks for Sir Calvin, but I noticed him making several tackles But Here is what the CH defense did as a whole and Sir Calvin was in the middle of much of this: Played 12 defensive series and forced eleven three-and-outs; held Rusk out of the end zone (only Rusk TD came on a run-back of the opening kickoff – ironic, 12 seconds elapsed off of the game clock, the same time as elapsed on UL-M’s kickoff runback vs. Mean Green); and held Rusk to 98 total yards offense and three first downs. Andrew Tucker – missed his third game in a row due to a hamstring and ankle problem. He could have played, but the decision was made to hold him out of this game (and CH does not play next week) before bringing Andrew and other injured starters back (including the starting QB) to play Athens a week from Friday – with the playoffs beginning the following weekend. Rex Rollins – Let me begin this by again reminding you that Dan McCarney is projecting this running back as a defensive back for the Mean Green. But I hope this guy is given at least a cursory look at running back in next fall’s Mean Green training camp practices. For those of you with a bit of age on you, Rex Rollins reminds me so much of a combination of Eric Dickerson and Duane Thomas – but with an extra dose of Thomas. This guy has power and speed, but he is so smooth that he glides – he does a great job of setting up blockers and also sets up the tacklers in such a way that they are “tackling air” as he effortlessly changes directions. Yes, I know UNT has a stable of running backs, including at least two highly-touted redshirts – but just sayin’. Oh, Rollins had an off-night for him (I think I said a couple of weeks ago that he was averaging about 12 yards a carry) carrying the ball 13 times for 83 yards and averaging only 6 + yards-per-carry. He also scored on a 37-yard TD.2 points

The problem with the idea that they're "cheating" is that there's no such thing. They're paying politicians to change the rules of the game for them. Again, if I had the money and power to "cheat" as much as the big banks do/are doing, hell yes I would. As my parents were always fond of reminding me "life ain't fair." Now, I'm not defending the POLICIES that take place on Wall Street or within companies, but they have to have INCENTIVE not to cheat, and the only places that can come from are the public (through their wallets) and the government (through legislation). But the hypocrisy of this movement, and most movements, comes the second you want to convert money into "voices heard." That makes you a lobby, and the problem stems from... lobbies. Because I'm ONE GUY who forms my own opinions and political leanings. I don't have a group of like-minded folks with a ton of cash to agree with me on every issue, so I'd have to stand on a street corner or march to Washington alone, which pretty much just makes me a random crazy guy with a guitar (I'm assuming I'd learn guitar somewhere in here). So then to get heard, I really need a group. The second you find a GROUP, well, then you have to adopt some ideas you don't necessarily agree with, because no two people think exactly alike. And besides, to get voices heard, the more the merrier. That's how party lines are formed. I mean, Monkeypox is pro-abortion, pro-nudity, anti-anti-smoking, and wants vehicles more than 14-ft long reserved only for commercial use, but this group is only in agreement on 75% of those things, and, within the makeup of the group, only me and finger-toe Sally agree on all of the exact same ones. But, regardless, we're now a group, with our official stances... we'll call ourselves the Monkeypoxicans. So now, I've got myself a group of sorta like-minded individuals, but nobody cares. We gotta get backed by money (which comes, somewhere, from a value-added corporation). After all, we got mouths to feed and crappy cars to fix. We can't just take off and protest, or take a congressman to Chic-Fil-A on his lunch break. NOW I can get my voice heard by Washington. How? By hiring a lobbyist. We PAY a lobbyist to wear a fancy suit and go to dinner with politicians so they can flash around how much green we have and how, if this guy also believed in these things we semi-sorta-mostly agree on, then well, we could spend that green to help get him elected. So then we funnel our money into his campaign, and he gets to have a bunch of commercials and signs and posters telling you that HE'S FOR WHAT WE'RE FOR, which, after all, is mostly-kinda-sorta-semi what you're for. And you like his good teeth and hair, so, sure, seems like a good fit. Together, we've gotten our guy elected. Oh, and we also want to sterilize all male children under 18, and burn fat people for fuel. We just don't mention that in the campaign. We got our money from the good folks at Pfizer to give your young boys Depo shots. But don't worry, the money to pay for the shot will come out of a government fund paid for by your taxes... which is like free medical care. YOU'RE NOT PAYING PFIZER! THE GOVERNMENT IS! So now you're sitting on your couch with your sterilized middle-school boy wondering "How the f- did it get like this?" And, while it's cool you've got a nice, 18-yr-old model-wife to replace that old one, you're upset about things, bc your kid's pretty sad. And THIS GUY isn't really YOUR GUY. Hell, he's not even REALLY Monkeypox's guy. SO you take the next logical step... you protest Pfizer. But celebrate, gentlemen (and gentle-ladies), the Dow's up 300 points today.2 points

Mods, move this if you must, but this team deserves to have the word spread about their game even on the football board. Friday @ 7pm at the Soccer Complex, NT will play Denver for the regular season championship, winner take all. These sorts of games do not come around very often, and I personally cannot remember one on this campus since the bowl years for football. We need a huge crowd for this game, so if any of you all can make it, please do. I think this crowd will probably get close to the record attendance (1246) set against SMU ealier this year for a 2-1 victory. Go Mean Green! North Texas vs. Denver Friday, Oct. 28th at 7pm Mean Green Soccer Complex Game Winner wins the SBC Championship. EDIT: Here is a link to the Facebook event - Link to Facebook1 point

Scott Van Pelt had SportsCenter while all of this was going on last night...and he was willing to admit that no one was watching him. From his Twitter, @notthefakeSVP "If I dance nude on set - will any human in world watch right now ? wait... If I DON'T do that... anyone ? Show of hands... That's a zero" "I'm juggling chainsaws and have been guzzling bourbon for an hour - see it live on S/C now."1 point

No. But based on your description of their play, I would guess they're a bunch of white guys?1 point

Looks like a certain stormfront follower on GMG could fit right in. Didn't we get past this with Texas Western about 45 years ago? I agree with the comment that ESPN's incessant showing of "highlight plays" is what's hurt team basketball at times. But there are plenty of examples of teams that play the right way that aren't private schools like Duke/Butler. How about Michigan State for instance. They are nearly always one of the best, most fundamentally coached teams in the land. Ever see the makeup of their roster?1 point

My fear is that the Sun Belt will vote not to do this and that will give us a recruiting disadvantage against conferences that do. Hopefully the Sun Belt will allow it but each school will decide how much to do. Then it could be a recruiting benefit for us against other Sun Belt teams that don't pay it.1 point

Another thing to remember is that for every $ given to a male on scholarship a $ must be given to a female on scholarship. This change will give the elitest programs even more of an advantage.Since it is up to the individual schools to set up their own program, the $2000 is not mandatory.1 point
