Sat and watched UNT win a football game in dominating fashion yesterday. I could not be happier for the team. I have watched what it has gone through for the last several years. I have to say, the changes that have been made are outstanding. You have a beautiful new stadium. A real college football coaching staff and players who have totally bought into the system and want to play football for UNT. Now to you on this board. All I have seen today is people bitching about stuff. No where to nurse a child, ATM machines, hotdogs vs hamburgers..., Frats in the parking lots. Walking from Fouts. Ya'll don't even know what a good football discussion board is supposed to be. Yes, this is my first post but I have followed this board and many other boards for a long time, both high school and college. This is anything but a football board. I challange all of you to make the change like the football team has. Start talking football.. Take the other topics somewhere else. If it isn't football related, it isn't worth discussing.9 points

I actually have none...just wanted to feign complaining to keep the karma even around here. Think about this. -Our defense was a net -7 tonight. They gave up14 and scored 7. Unless you're LSU you gotta be excited with that!! -Thompson threw for 300+ yards. Our extremely vanilla offense had a passing explosion. -I saw their quarterback flat out quit! After that last sack his body language said, to quote a famous boxing match, "no mas." -The move to 4:00pm was a very smart move. I really think you got 3-5k there that wouldn't have been. -The students showed up. Your normal frats refused to come inside but the students made a difference! And everyone one of them is going back to their homes and dorms with stories of a great time. No complaints.8 points

Negative...there are alot of kids in the stadium. I cringe when the students do it next to us at the basketball games, and I wish it would stop. Please.7 points

Most students did not rush the field, a small minority did. However, if they come and want to rush the field who cares!? Make it our own tradition to rush the field for every win, not matter how big or how small. It's about having fun. Great win tonight! Best home game I have been too in my 4 years at UNT.7 points

As a UNT parent I am a relative newcomer to Mean Green Nation (4th year). I love the campus and the things UNT has to offer to students and actively recruit UNT grads for the company I work for and will continue to do so. Yesterday was my first visit to Apogee (1st game I could make due to health issues) and I was very impressed with the facilities. Even the walk from Fouts wasn't bad (I got my walking exercise in!). We sat in the student section and they were great, especially on defensive 3rd downs. They were into it the whole game, which compared to the first game we attended at Fouts 4 years ago was a change, and they will continue to make a difference. We didn't get to tailgate due to conflicts causing us to get to Denton after 3:00 but I can see where it is a good game day atmosphere and will only get better. Looking forward to making at least one of the remaining two home games and getting there early enough to partake in the tailgate experience. As far as the change in the football being played at UNT, and its already been mentioned on previous posts, the defensive intensity certainly stands out to me. I was at last year's the ULM game and we made Browning look all world then and this year he was pedestrian (for the most part). Consistent pressure on the QB and punishing receivers is the difference. That and flying to the ball. I was at the K-State game last year and the offense finally seemed to get untracked and deliver the kind of exciting plays everyone expected them to deliver early on this year. I thought it could have been an easier time if Moe, Larry & Curly hadn't been part of the referee crew (Missed PI calls & the roughing the kicker was ludicrous) but I digress. Will there continue to be hiccups along the road? Sure there will (ask OU or Wisconsin). But stay positive Mean Green Nation. This coaching staff is the real deal and will get this program over the hump. UNT has too much to offer. PS: Can't wait for basketball season either! GMG!6 points

Holding that crew to 2 of 12 on third down? Wow! Other than that one 5 play 80 yard drive they played MEAN GREEN DEFENSE. it's been a long time. We're very proud of you. And a big attaboy to Derek Thompson for managing a good game today. People have been very hard on him. Today he should have earned some respect! IT'S ALL GREEN AND ALL GOOD!!! Rick6 points

Yeah, as a student, I agree with Rudy. The MF chant is completely classless. Grow up.5 points

Actually it's time we stop worrying about this. There was a piece in the DMN this week about tailgating across the country. All the great traditions etc. One fun fact was that 30% of tailgaters never make it into the stadium. it happens everywhere and we need to let it go.5 points
-
Just whip it out and take care of that kid. If anybody's got a problem with it tell them to go sit on a cactus. This country is so damn prudish.5 points
-
The frats were ridiculous. They all need to be punched in the face. Every person in every frat.5 points

The fans that ran onto the field were AT THE GAME. Unlike the hundreds that continued to tailgate and not even come to the game. I personally don't see the point to rush the field for a regular season game and don't see dumping Gatorade on Coach Mac. But wins haave been few and far between around here for some years. if they come and NT wins, let 'em rush the field. No harm. Great game tonight. GO MEAN GREEN5 points

Dude, get over it. It has very little to do with being family friendly and everything to do with representing your university correctly. Adding obscenities to the fight song is trashy and is an embarrassment to the university and its fans. I really hope you are just trolling because otherwise I have very little faith in the future of our fanbase if others are taking your cue.4 points

Why not have a half time Greek chariot race? Have them race wheelbarrows around the goal posts at each end of the field. Could be 3 laps with a new "horse and driver" change at each end. Might be funny and I bet it would get the Greeks and some other students into the stadium.4 points
-
I think its time we consider killing people that don't come inside the stadium. Probably only have to off a few before they get the picture. You say you want to be big time, I say prove it. Your move, RV.4 points

UT is famous for being one of the worst home field advantages in the BCS.They're quiet, come late, and leave early. They're routinely called out on TV broadcasts for being silent and disinterested. Nebraska, meanwhile, is routinely considered one of the best home field advantages in the BCS. They're polite, cheer the other team on and off the field, and make visitors feel at home. They also love and cheer like crazy for their Huskers. Let's be tiny Nebraska, because they're better humans.3 points

Not sure if you've been over to the Alumni side, but during every opposition 3rd & 4th down, my section is almost deafening. When Herron jumped on AK's fumble and took it to the house, it was very rowdy. I think this thread is full of way too many uneducated generalizations.3 points
-
When I was a student, I often found myself longing for some alum in his mid-thirties to tell me how to cheer for my team. Weird everyone seems just to be blowing this off. *I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I'm just saying this approach is not likely to work.3 points
-
Well, ours used to be. Just because everyone else does it (I am not convinced they do) doesn't mean we should. Show you are educated and use a vocabulary of more than a handful of four letter words.3 points
-
And that makes it right? I can be one of the most vocal against the other team you have ever heard, but there is a limit. You don't wish injury, and you shouldn't cuss all the time. And I'd even yell "Welcome to hell, bitch." I just think that F bombs should be left alone.3 points
-
Nice. Someone comes on here and invites you to their tailgate to show you that many Greek alums are normal folks who support this program & you respond by being a pompous ass. Well done.3 points

First time posting, so hopefully I get this right. As a greek from a long, long time ago, we had issues getting our fellow greeks into the game, primarily, because the bulk of them are T-Shirt fans. They were more interested in going to Austin, Tech or A&M games. What really helped me was when my chapter got kicked off campus many, many moons ago, I actually branched out and realized that the bulk majority of them were tools and more interested in just going to the tailgate or staying on the row. What needs to happen is a member from IFC- their governing council, needs to step up and increase involvement. Add involvement points that go towards Chapter of the Year would possibly sweeten the deal. Also, there were a number of primarily greek spirit organizations that were allowed on the field at Fouts- Wings, predominantly Lambda Chi's, would do push ups to the tune of however many points we were at, and did a pretty good job of getting the fans revved up. Are there any organizations like that at Apogee? Definitely something worth looking at creating. Has Coach approached IFC yet? Nonetheless, with the growing numbers in the greek world, that would definitely increase the student desire to go to games. Plus, it would fill in any holes greatly.3 points

There's a core base of 15K die-hard UNT fans who are loud and rowdy. No one wants to play here, we're so...vicious, I guess. It's why no one likes playing in the Pit. Keep winning this year...that goes to 20K. And so on, so forth. Excited about our future.3 points

This topic again? It's bordering on obsessive. Why does anyone care *where* someone else doesn't attend the game? Would it be better if they didn't attend the game back in their dorm rooms, apartments or frat houses? Maybe they aren't sports fans or hate football. What about all the students that leave Denton every weekend to go back to mom and dad's house? At least these individuals are coming out of their caves and participating. That is huge IMHO. Step 1 - Build awareness and some semblence of school pride. Step 2 - Get or keep students on campus and get them close to the stadium so they can experience the game day festivities and reinforce that budding school pride. Step 3 - Get them in the stadium. Step 4 - Fill the stadium. Step 5 - Feel sorry for all those that *have* to hang out on the hill during the game because that's as close as they can get. We're at about step 1.5. Keith2 points

You want fewer people to be part of the game day atmosphere? Staying outside during the game is dumb, but it's dumber to drive away people who will be rolling through those turnstiles when they're excited about the program.2 points

Compare yesterday's effort, attitude, & results with what we had under Coach Dodge. The players are mostly the same - the difference is the coaching. God bless Texas!2 points

Were those the guys in designer jeans , fancy boots, and white button up shirts? I do not miss them.2 points
-
Sorry...I just don't agree. I don't like that folks stay outside anymore than anyone else does, BUT they do add to the pre-game atmosphere that will help, over the long run, build a tradition of a great tailgate atmosphere. The word will spread, more will come to enjoy the festivities of a Saturday Mean green game, and more will find their way into the stadium If you send the cops out to close it down, they will just stop coming altogether and then you have ZERO chance that some may decide to start making the game a part of the deal. I am as frustrated as others about these folks, but to send the cops in would do no one any good at all, and I think, much more harm than any perceived good. They do close down the "authorized" tailgate events...2 points

You guys crack me up. First, you blame the Greeks for not coming in since they don't have flasks and would rather drink, ten later in the week you all start a thread about how you wish they sold beer in the stadium. Then we've got Green Meaner stating all frats are "douchersm". Nice. Do you know any personally, because many of the season ticket/ Mean Green Club members I know were in fraternities while in school. Don't be so fast with the labels.2 points

I'm sorry, I must have missed the rules for when it is appropriate to rush the field. I was under the impression that it was for a big victory over a "superior" team, when defeating your rivals, or after a homecoming game. I thought homecoming games were big. We might wan't to have SGA pass out a phamplet to incoming students next year on when it's appropriate to rush the field. As our program improves and we win more games, then rushing the field will be reserved for more important wins. In the meantime, let the team and fans celebrate. On second thought, if the alumni got excited and rushed the field, would it stop the bitching about the alumni side?2 points
-
Whether they win on the road or not is not the biggest issue right now. That will come with time. What is important is that this team has already tied most wins in a season ever during the Dodge era (error?) and have won three home games for the first time since the Dickey era. You've got to start somewhere and they are doing that. Road wins will come as the team gains confidence in its ability to win.2 points

It's amazing how loud Apogee is even with just 17000 in attendance! It really could turn into a tough place to play whenever we start packing the place.2 points

This is me calling myself out.... Derek Thompson proved me wrong tonight vs ULM. He looked (tonight) to be a D-1 quarterback. SETTING his feet and throwing the ball like he knew where he wanted to put it. Well done Derek. This me on record saying im sorry. Keep it up please. Build on it.2 points

It was a great win for us tonight....really a turning point for our team. Had over 300 yards of Offense on the #1 D in the belt (ULM) and our D held em to 14 pts (they had a kick return td). plus we are now 3-1 at home with 2 home games left...if we can win out at home (wku and MT wont be easy) and steal one on the road (hopefully vs ASU) we will have 6 wins and it will be time for bowling!!! woooo! pumped today.2 points
