I hadn't been to a UNT game since the last homecoming and had a chance to take my 2 kids and wife out opening day. We subsequently decided to become season ticket holders and Mean Green Club members given the experience. I have two boys - 9 and 5 and always look at events like this as a way to show them the "College Experience". By the way, the mood at Apogee far exceeded anything I felt at Fouts as both an undergrad and Alum. Well to get to the point, I wasn't able to attend last weeks game so I offered my tickets to a good friend who has high school age boys. His one son plays on the freshman football team so we thought it would be a great opportunity to show him what college sports can look like. His other boy was considering possibly not going to college at all. After the game, I spoke to my friend to hear how it went. All he could say was how excited the boys were to be there. The parties going on and the excitement around the stadium. He said it provided a glimpse of what college life was and afterwards both boys had a newfound desire to go to college. Whether it happens is another story, but my friends wife was so happy we offered them the tickets because all the talk in the world about the benefits of college couldn't outweigh the actual feeling of being there. Sometimes seeing the diversity of our school can open the eyes of those with preconceived ideas of what a college student looks like. The best way to fill the stadium is to invite someone out. My friend is now thinking of going to homecoming with his family just to watch the game even though he didn't attend the school. I think that's pretty cool.15 points

Assuming similar math is used in the Sunbelt, the exit fee would be about $27.73, give or take a penny. GMG8 points

After going to opening game, I was on the phone with the Athletic Department on Monday about season tickets. Given my younger kids, we got front row in the endzone and they love it. My wife also liked the idea of blue lot parking so I became a booster given the perk of blue lot parking for boosters with season tickets. Worth every penny and a great family experience. Of course, my kids are now both Junior Mean Green members and I can't seem to go to a game without having to purchase some sort of clothing item. Shirts, hats, and of course 2 foam fingers.4 points

I still maintain that there is a reason that there is no Sun Belt logo or artwork at Apogee. I am convinced that there is far more going on behind the scenes than we know. I have faith in President Rawlins...plus he is well connected in the NCAA circles. Stay tuned.4 points

I would like to nominate me. Do I have your vote? My platform, unequal revenue sharing, with 90% going to UNT. Plus, no exit fee when UNT bolts... Who is with me?3 points

If we were to be LaLa, we would probably have to pick up and move to Louisiana and start talking funny. But if we are to stay here in Texas, yes FIU would have the tiebreaker over us with head to head, but I guess there is a reasonable possibility that there would be a three way tie or that FIU could lose another one.3 points

Saying someone will not play in the NFL is not being negative. Royce is a great player. Several great players have suited up in the Green & White and never made it to the league. My being negative was towards the TS who doesn't seem to know the difference b/w a good college player and one who plays on Sundays. If he somehow makes it , I'll be the 1st to eat crow. I'll be the 1st to buy his NFL jersey. I'll scream from a mountain top that I was wrong Being negative would be more like starting a thread about getting a kid off the field because he doesn't deserve to be out there . Or starting a thread that assumes a kid is only on the field because of his dad's relationship with the coach . Now that's what I would call being negative3 points

I know everyone has been dying to know what happened to my NT flag and flag pole. The North Texas Police called me aboout 4:00 this afternoon (Tu) and said they had my flag/pole. It seems it blew over in the wind early in the game and some Athletic staff people saw it laying in the parking lot. They thought it belonged to Athletics and picked it up and put it somewhere under the Stadium. The Police called around and I got it back. Thanks North Texas Police and Athletic Staff. And if my flag pole damaged Brad's car, I want to make that right. GO MEAN GREEN3 points

i'm going to go out on a limb and say that mac knows what he is doing...could be a shot in the dark, but coaching for him is almost second nature...3 points

I don't think it would be significantly more competitive, but the opponents would still generate more fan interest. Rice, Southern Miss, Tulsa, UTEP, Memphis, Marshall > FAU, FIU, ULM, MUTS, etc. as far as fan interest. It seems it would also blow the doors off the Belt as a basketball conference.3 points

I'm not saying I have any inside information....I just find it curious that there is no reference to the Sun Belt at the stadium. This, coupled with the fact that Rawlins is very connected, leads me to believe that efforts are being made to make NT a player in this reshuffle. Size of university, television market, alumni base and our recent upgrade of facilities makes us a player. The success of football right now will have some bearing, but not totally when conferences scour the landscape for candidates. All sports but football are cruising rather nicely. Upgrade in women's basketball and football (the two problem areas in the past) seem to have been addressed. So, we are open for business.2 points

This is how Coach Mac ends up inventing the 1-5-5. It'll be Sarge, plus a whole lot of defensive backs.2 points

Yes...my point exactly. Just signs with the "Screaming Eagle" (I refuse to call it SOW by the way) and UNT. No need to have signs saying "Big East" or "C-USA". It's just about fans throwing up their flags. It's about awareness and marketing a brand. "Rick V and Rawlins are going to put us in the best situation and if they feel we need to promote ourselves publicly about it for a certain situation then they have SEVERAL marketing firms on the standby." It's the fans responsibility to. Team ownership from all stakeholders. JRock2 points

- Throwing beer bottles and snowballs with batteries in them...classless. - Poisoning 200 year old Oak trees...classless. - Filing the opponent's team bus with manure...funny, but classless. - Yalies pretending to be the Harvard Pep Squad handing out flip-cards that spell out "We Suck" to the Harvard student section in 2004...awesome, but way above the capabilities of our fan base. - Booing? Seriously? Not only is it fine, it's too be expected.2 points

This is a big game this weekend! I'm preaching to the choir, but if North Texas wins, we'd be just a half game out of first in the Belt. If you can't go to Lafayette, don't sit at home alone watching the game on your computer. We'll once again have the feed showing on the big TV at Rudy's in Allen. Grant.UNT will be our host. Come watch with fellow Mean Green fans! We'll start things up at 3:30pm. Kickoff is at 4. Rudy's is offering our Mean Green drink special again which includes $2 PBR pints and Natty Lights. Get there early for good seats. The room filled up for the Tulsa game and bled over into the next room. So who's coming???1 point

I told the guy next to me Saturday night that " That kid needs to be on the O line". I guess someone heard me I also think Richard Abbe would be a great OG. Kid has a nasty streak , he's just not quick enough as a DT to get to the QB1 point

I wanted to share a nice experience that my family and I had on Saturday night after the game. We went to eat at Wingstop off University so we can watch the Rangers game without having a lot of people around. Anyways, on our way out, a tall young man getting his drink asked us if we went to the game tonight and we were like "yeah, of course." The young man then said "Thank you for coming and thanks for supporting us." I was actually surprised to hear that and asked him if he was on the team and he said yes. All I said to him was "Great game tonight. Keep up the good work.!" I didn't bother to ask him his name or number since they're all equals in my book. I was just really impressed that he took the time to say thank you. It's experiences like that that make me think that things like this are happening around Denton. Go Mean Green!1 point

Obviously those of you who watch Game Day aren't paying attention to the crowd. There is always someone in the crowd other than SMU holding up signs. I have seen OSU fans holding up signs when Game Day has been OK. There is always an Aggie in the crowd holding up a sign when Game Day is at UT. I think it's a great idea.1 point

100% agree with JRock. Props to SMU. Wish we would have though to do it. It would be great to see NT represented at GameDay1 point

I'm with you JRock, when I saw the SMU signs I kinda thought it would've been cool to see some UNT signs down there as well.1 point

I am hoping that Mac will really light a "far" under this kid. I am told that he likes to be addressed as "Sir" and not as "Sir Calvin" - but I gotta feelin' that will change real fast once his Mean Green teammates (and coaches) spend a little time with him in the weight room and on the field - GrandGreen, that is one area where going from 3-A to Div 1 can tend to take a little starch out of one's perception of one's self. Either that perception will change or he will be such a "bad ass" that he will be called anything he wants to be called........and I hope it is the latter! GMG1 point

I love Johnny Jones and the improvements we have made, but the Big East is one of the premier leagues in basketball. We are nowhere near being ready to compete at that level, nor is anyone in the Belt. Our hoops program would be much more competitive in CUSA or MWC. Obviously, if an AQ league is interested that would be beyond awesome, but that ain't gonna happen. As a matter of fact, I am with wardly on this. I think that the BE will fill their league with service academies, Temple, Villanova, UCF, and/or ECU. I suspect that any CUSA vacancies are to be filled by SBC eastern teams, such as MTSU and FIU. If we lose those two programs, I don't know who will replace them--probably more FCS move-ups, which does nothing for us at all. I am afraid that it will get worse for us before it gets better in all of this mess.1 point

Somewhat on the subject...does the boots and short skirt look do a little something for you, as it does for me? Add in the NT boots and the ED is cured. GMG1 point

Level-headed response: If we beat Lala then get ready for legit conference championship talk. If we lose to Lala then we still have a shot to go bowling. Reactionary response: If we beat Lala then we should expect our Big East invite on Monday, 10/17. If we lose to Lala then each team member should be airboated into the deepest recesses of a gator-infested swamp and left to fend for themselves.1 point

I read that to mean that adding us would add 1.5 teams. Seems very complimentary to me.1 point

I agree, and think my intended message was not well conveyed. I speculate if the interception never happened, this thread wouldn't exist. Based on my internet math, 1 INT = INFINITE NFL TALENT.1 point

this is a football game not a Sunday school class. We want our guys to go out and knock the snot out of the other players but we don't want to hurt their feelings? Sometimes this board is the epitome of wussified.1 point

Great game Royce. Continue to play with confidence, look at the WR across from you and know you are better than him and you will continue to make fantastic plays. Oh and ignore some of these posters that focus on the negative.1 point

Great example of why it is so important to attend games. I was SO disappointed with attendance. There really is NO excuse. I don't care how much we've lost in the past, we have over 36k enrolled students and couldn't even get HALF the attendance that TCU got in Ft. Worth, which has about 7k students. Local citizens, UNT STUDENTS, and Alumni all need to realize that showing up really helps these players. They work hard and WANT to win and if more fans show up, that motivates them to work harder. Please PACK the stadium on homecoming and show more allegiance to your OWN university. Let's talk to students who have negative perceptions about UNT athletics and convince them of the importance of supporting UNT's teams. Thanks.1 point

Remember this is a 3a team, if they really have 3 or more fb division college recruits they should be destroying other teams. NT's three commits may be all legit, but there are lot of small town athletes that have outstanding stats that aren't close to being college football players.1 point
