Great article. Regarding the two talon claw/hand sign, it was reported they lost the third claw in a nasty wind turbine accident.4 points

I was there and what I take from this game is that we still have much room for improvement and still won by 14 points. We would have never, ever won this game or the IU game the last 4 years. To win by 14 when we didn't play our best says a lot. I am extremely proud of this team considering we were starting: Thompson: pretty much a freshman. Made smart decisions all night and would have had better numbers if a number of players hadn't dropped throws that hit them in the hands. Lemon: true freshman starting at OG. Y'Barbo: RFr staring at OG Johnson: RFr starting at OT next to Y'Barbo. Stojkovic: True Fr starting at OLB Orr: Soph starting at MLB Wright: Soph starting at OLB: These three are athletic and will be beasts very soon. Orr is all over the place. Wariner: starting CB made some impressive plays last night. The DL outside of AK47 all return next year and are playing well. My point? We are very young and have a very brighjt future. It is like watching your kids grow up, they will do something that has you scratching your head one minute and then jumping for joy the next. This team is fun to watch and will become more consistent over time. Invite a friend and enjoy a great night watching North Texas football in the best stadium around.4 points

I wanted to share a nice experience that my family and I had on Saturday night after the game. We went to eat at Wingstop off University so we can watch the Rangers game without having a lot of people around. Anyways, on our way out, a tall young man getting his drink asked us if we went to the game tonight and we were like "yeah, of course." The young man then said "Thank you for coming and thanks for supporting us." I was actually surprised to hear that and asked him if he was on the team and he said yes. All I said to him was "Great game tonight. Keep up the good work.!" I didn't bother to ask him his name or number since they're all equals in my book. I was just really impressed that he took the time to say thank you. It's experiences like that that make me think that things like this are happening around Denton. Go Mean Green!3 points

I don't think it would be significantly more competitive, but the opponents would still generate more fan interest. Rice, Southern Miss, Tulsa, UTEP, Memphis, Marshall > FAU, FIU, ULM, MUTS, etc. as far as fan interest. It seems it would also blow the doors off the Belt as a basketball conference.2 points

Royce had a great game Saturday. but...I don't understand how he is seen as a great player though. I guess if rarely turning around for the ball or tackling is what we want out of our d-backs, then I guess he's awesome. (bring on the minus's if you must)2 points

I still contend that Stradford is your answer here. Just throw the ball AT him deep 3 or 4 times a game. He doesn't have to catch it, just prove you'll take the shot!!2 points

After paying $20 to park and walking at least a mile at places like OU and UT, I find this discussion hard to believe. Parking at Fouts for $10 and only have to walk about a mile is a bargain in the college football world. You know what? Maybe our fans aren't ready for prime time. By the way, I think the Denton police have done a great job with the crowds.2 points

I tire of such dribble...UNT is not irrelevant any more so than SMU, UTA, etc. The challenge UNT faces is self-made over years and years of apathy by its student body, it administration and the residents of the City of Denton. It is of our very own making and WE can change that. It's not the conference, it's not the schools we play, it's not the record over the last however many games. heck, if it were the conference, how in the world do all the DII and DIII schools get turnout? Do not get me wrong here...I full well understand that having some in-state rivals can and will help attendance, as will winning on a much more consistent basis...BUT, there was absolutely ZERO excuse for the poor showing Saturday night at Apogee from the students and alums alike. It is UNT...it is YOUR University...it was great tailgate weather...it was a fall Saturday evening...It was co-eds in shorts and cowboy boots, it was tequila shots and beer and brats...it was FOOTBALL for gosh sakes. UNT will be as relevant or irrelevant as its own fans and student body make it. Any other "excuse" is just that...and excuse. Irrelevant, my rear end. The "times they are a changing" for UNT...and as has been quoted..."we have met the enemy and he is US".2 points

For peolple wanting to tailgate at the hill, there is a drop off zone off the access road. If youre complaining about a 10 min walk, go to a gym. Who cares, I walk from the rec to the games every week, its not that bad. If youre really complaining about $10 for parking youre just making more of an excuse not to come, seriously its $10, a penny more than a double bacon cheese burger with large fry and sweet tea from whataburger.2 points

It's almost like a young quarterback is learning how to see the whole field while balancing making smart and safe plays on check-downs to keep the game in the hands of the defense. It's a rare thing, but it's just crazy enough to work.2 points

First of all, the walk from Fouts to Apogee is nowhere near a mile. If you can walk around a mall once, then surely you can make it from Fouts to Apogee with no problem. Signage could be better but the signs at exits are controlled by the city and not by UNT. A shuttle would not work in this case because it would take triple the amount of time waiting to board and get across to Apogee than it would to just walk. Considering how many last minute walkup fans that we have, I don't think that would go over well for those that show up at 5:30 for a 6PM kickoff and expect to make it straight over. This being said, our fans need to SUCK IT UP! UNT fans have been spoiled for years and I am sure most would still complain even if we played the football game in their own backyard. You should know what to expect when you come to a sports stadium. A high volume of people will make traffic and parking difficult. There aren't many other options at this point and I think the lots and routes have been near perfected. If you think standing in line for an hour to get on a shuttle bus that would probably only fit around 30 people then you must be crazy. Come early, be prepared, GO MEAN GREEN!2 points

If you are going to a sporting event it is a good idea to make a plan on traffic and parking. I don't want cops answering questions. It's not their job and it holds up traffic. That being said, I agree the signage should be better.2 points

This was fantastic! I couldn't help but smile while reading. My story is somewhat similar in that I didn't really get into North Texas athletics until after I graduated. What changed it for me was finding that group that was hardcore about UNT regardless of how we were doing. For me, it was my colleagues in Admissions. Their enthusiasm was contagious and I was hooked! Now I'm a second year football season ticket holder, first year basketball season ticket holder and lifelong North Texas fan. I can't wait to see our little Mean Green nation grow and infiltrate the world of collegiate athletics. Go Mean Green!2 points

This O Line is not the problem. But have I mentioned how much I hate it when teams hand off 6 yards deep to make one? Rick2 points

The attendance was absolutely the worst part of the evening. I do believe that that was the actual count and did not include season tickets. If this is our fan base then we can forget about another conference. Where were the students? While we need many more Denton townspeople to embrace this program we need our students to lead the way. The two sections that did attend were magnificent but there needed to be at least four times that number. Let me say one positive about student attendance...the band. The band was as lively as I've ever seen them and the sound was great. Tremendous performance. Their pregame concerts also were appreciated.2 points

I had someone at work today tell me that someone invited them last night to sit in their club seats with them, and he enjoyed it so much, he told me he'd be purchasing club seats for next season. Hearing this absolutely made my day. Go Mean Green!1 point

Great example of why it is so important to attend games. I was SO disappointed with attendance. There really is NO excuse. I don't care how much we've lost in the past, we have over 36k enrolled students and couldn't even get HALF the attendance that TCU got in Ft. Worth, which has about 7k students. Local citizens, UNT STUDENTS, and Alumni all need to realize that showing up really helps these players. They work hard and WANT to win and if more fans show up, that motivates them to work harder. Please PACK the stadium on homecoming and show more allegiance to your OWN university. Let's talk to students who have negative perceptions about UNT athletics and convince them of the importance of supporting UNT's teams. Thanks.1 point

Just because we are playing Lafayette in football this week doesn't mean we need to talk like them.1 point

There isn't anything to fix. You have to pay attention to context. The 14 championships was in reference to championships while Fouts was the home of the Mean Green. The video is about moving from the Fouts era to the Apogee era.1 point

I don't mean to alarm anyone but if we beat LaLa, we (cue Darth Sidious voice) control our destiny to win the Belt and/or go bowling. Say what you want about whether we deserve it or could pull it off, but that would be something to celebrate. Here's hoping for a win this week.1 point

It appears each week we have new features in the stadium. The 2nd game saw the installation of the Apogee Stadium sign in the end zone. This week, the sponsor signage went up. What I'd like to see fixed is the "14 conference championships" in our video. We have 24, not 14.1 point

Teams really do need to learn how to win. I loved the 4th down call because it felt so good to finally win one comfortably and would've loved to be jerks about it and be called out by Captain Kangaroo for running up the score...not because its good policy, but to get back at years of frustration. It will come for this staff...we're seeing a much more disciplined brand of football...the numbers may not be there because the players aren't there yet...I too was getting frustrated with the first bit of the 4th, but we adjusted and that last drive, save for Schutza's drop was exactly what an end game drive should look like1 point

If he really is a student as stated above he could have at least put on a North Texas hat or something. I'm glad he was at the game and cheering but do you really have to wear all UT stuff? Show a little more school pride besides just being there. Like a lot of people on the board I think we just get frustrated when we see this stuff and want better for our school. More devoted students who bleed green, not some green mixed with lots of orange if that makes sense. And I know winning can and will fix a lot of that. I do think we have made great progress over the past year.1 point

We might wanna make sure that we don't offend the people starting these threads. We need all the fans we can get and if the people who start these threads log on and see people disparaging them, they might not continue attending games.1 point

John; I have to agree 100%. When I read this in today's paper this morning, I just had a great big smile on my face. You win them over one at a time and one game at a time. This sort of positive PR from a local DR-C writer is worth its weight in gold. Thank you Donna Fielder and welcome to the Mean green nation. You are both very much appreciated and very much needed!1 point

Denton has a "Sports Commission", but you would never know it from the lack of any activity supporting local teams/universities, etc. I think the Commission is pretty much a "clique" of folks who really see it as their own little universe to do with as they please, and could really care less about actually promoting sports in and around Denton. I give the Denton Sports Commission a BIG FAT "F" FOR "FAIL BIG TIME". Seems to be a pure waste of energy, time and money. Anyone know any members of this esteemed Commission?1 point

Don't ever fudge with the tailgating. The tailgating incredibly adds to the atmosphere. Even if the games are occasionally letdowns, many fans still have a great day because of tailgating and want to continue to come out to the stadium.1 point
