  1. A win is a win. Quit your whining and enjoy it!

  2. UNT where we bitch relentlessly about attendance to the point of saying the team should be bad and we go crying into our self loathing sippy cups, only to put up photos of every potential new fan for public ridicule each and every home game. Such a younger sibling inferiority complex around here. I've got 99 problems and some other dude's shirt ain't one of them.

  3. I love my Mean Green, but this fan base doesn't know how to have fun.

  4. I hate this new board trend. A butt in the seats is a butt in the seats regardless of what school's gear the fan is wearing. If you want UNT to attract new fans because of Apogee and McCarney, they have to come from somewhere. College football fans in DFW who follow other schools -- but come to UNT games for whatever reason -- are a promising target market for us.

  5. This kind of fan conversion story makes my day: http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/drc/opinion/columns/stories/DRC_fielder_1009.1e20d4a12.html

  6. Who cares what he is wearing. He is a student, I have seen him on campus a lot. Secondly, he was standing and cheering the whole game. The douches of the game are anyone who was not at Apogee last night.

  7. We criticize the fanbase and have constant posts about crappy attendance and the ones that do come to our game we make fun of him and call him a douche. Interesting...

  8. I'll take 20,000 more of those douches if it means more butts in seats

  9. How many of you that want nothing to do with Texas State or UTSA get pissed off when SMU, or other, look down on us? Yes, Coach Mac is trying to build something here, but we have no history to say we are better than these schools.

  10. I realize there is a lot of hate/dislike for any talk of having Texas State or UTSA in our conference – But we MUST find a way to build rivalries that we can easily travel to, and they to Denton.

  11. Congrats on the win guys. Man, that was ugly. I've never seen a worse offense then ours. I feel bad for our D. They gave up 3 points and we lost by 2 TDs...I now understand how you felt watching Dodge-ball. Next year and a new coaching staff can't come fast enough! Good luck the rest of the season.

  12. i am susprised and dissapointed that unt has not reached out to utsa and tex st and included them on out futute football schedule. they are not going away! since my freahman year of 61' the only real natural rivals i can remember were uta, sfa, and la. monroe when we were all in the southland conference. while we may consider smu a rival, they don't think of us as theirs. i personally think we are missing an opportunity, especially with utsa, whose ytd average attendance can only make us green with envy.just an old man's opinion, which if you agree with you might share with rick v.

  13. Going independent is a great plan, if your goal is to get us into FCS. SBC membership automatically gives us four home games a year with programs we can compete with. Smaller programs usually sell their road games at the start of the year, and then everyone is busy with conference play. Because of that, buying road games would be cost prohibitive for us. A indy schedule for us would be about 4 home games, maybe 5 in a great year, with 1 or 2 of those games being against FCS teams. The number of body "bag games" would be much higher than it is now. Membership in the SBC gives us 8 games a year against FBS programs we should be able to compete with. We probably play 3 or 4 of those games if we go indy.

  14. If these threads are going to be a staple after each home game, how about one rule... Before taking the picture, offer to buy the person a NT shirt. If they decline, feel free to take their picture. I'm sure they'll give you a nice smile. See, I wonder if this thread topic exists if meeting the person is required.

  15. Sell beer inside the stadium and win 75% of the games and it will be packed no matter who we play. A move to a conference with more well known teams would help but isn't going to happen anytime soon. Beer + Wins = Packed rowdy crowd!

  16. He's being called a douche. How do you think that goes over with him, the people who brought him to the game, and anyone else who wears other-school gear to a UNT game? It's not like this board is private. Anyone who reads college football boards might show up here if they're interested in a recent game. This kind of topic tells the casual fan who isn't a UNT diehard that he won't be welcome. While McCarney is busting his ass to get people to Apogee, telling anybody they're not welcome at the games is idiotic.

  17. Agree, if for no other reason that at least Texas State would bring fans to put in the seats. We've got to stay regional to get this thing off the ground. As I've said, I love the Tulsa games as they should be the absolute marking point for us. They recruit our area and they pulled themselves out of a huge hole on and off the field. I'd push for Houston more. They brought a ton of fans. Texas State - yes. I'd go for Kansas as well. Many KU grads in the Metroplex. I think probably the thing to do is to find out the number of members of Dallas area alumni groups of various schools and try to pick them off. Even Indiana brought quite a few out. Texas, and DFW in particular, is teeming with people not born in the state. Our economy is a draw. Let's take advantage of it with our football schedule. To me, Houston, Tulsa, and Texas State should be slam dunk no-brainers for future scheduling.

  19. WTAMU (Div II) attendance last night - 14,577. The Sunbelt will kill UNT's program. It would be better to go independent until a respectable conference home can be found. God bless Texas!

  20. since my freshman year of 61' i have noticed that we draw poorly during tex/ou weekend regardless of who we play. its party time in dallas for the greeks, as well as other students. in addition, our game featured 2 teams with 1 win between them, iffy weather, and a team in our conference that is not a natural rival. we have a core of about 15,000 supporters that show up regardless of who we play or what our record is. the way to double that is to put a decent product on the field, which coach mac will do in 2 to 3 years. however, the lack of a natural rival remains a thorn in our side, and our lack of interest in scheduling utsa and tex st baffels me.

  21. Win and/or play a team that people have heard of. 7 years of losing, TX/OU, Rangers, threat of rain, and FAU. You don't need to look any farther.

  25. Dude, there are plenty of things to nitpick, but that's not what this thread is about. It's about celebrating a win. And by the way, when our defense gets pick 6s, that's a good thing.

  26. Who is in charge of enforcing the no tailgating ban during the game? 13,142 for a game we were predicted to win is pretty bad. Its made worse by the increasing number of students who are staying on the hill to tailgate during the game.

  28. Despite the whiners, any win is a good win. Even great teams have ugly victories. As has been pointed out, given the record the past few years, we should be happy with any victory at this point. That is the foundation. First, you learn to win the games you should win and then you learn how to win the others. What I liked best about the win is that the defense pulled it out. How long have we waited for a defense that could actually win a game or two...even against a mediocre opponent like FAU? I'm not saying you can complain, but for me, I am enjoying another "W"!

  31. I just don't think people are very sports savvy in general. A couple of guys making the walk from Fouts' parking lot were bitching about the walk. I explained to them how short it was compared to games at OU or UT. They couldn't believe it. And, once you're in the stadium. There isn't a bad seat. But, how the hell would you know it unless you had something else to compare it to? I don't think many average Dentonites have ever been to a sporting event, so they don't know how good Apogee is from that stand point. I mean, you're practically on the field now in the end zone seats!

  32. I told you all before...market it to the Mexicans. No one believes me. I live with a Mexican. They get very passionate about stuff, and they love attention. Show 'em some love and they'll help us fill up the place. Plus, no one drinks and grills like the Mexican.

  33. My kids enjoyed running around the end zone bleachers for just about the entire second half. But, I wish they hadn't had so much room. People missed a good game. I hope this thing is really turning around. I love the new stadium, but the reality is, it doesn't help to be playing in the Sun Belt. There may have been 20 FAU fans in the stands. It's just that no one cares. I hate to say it, but even joining that WAC might bring more interest and fans out. Yes, there was ALCS and Texas-OU, but.... Denton has got to be brought behind this thing. Denton County as well.

  34. Don't ever fudge with the tailgating. The tailgating incredibly adds to the atmosphere. Even if the games are occasionally letdowns, many fans still have a great day because of tailgating and want to continue to come out to the stadium.

  37. If you're not seriously worried about the offense then you have problems. Words can't describe how bad they've been not just tonight, but the whole season. I'm happy we won, but we're not going to win many more games with the way our O is playing.

  38. Good win, especially with a one-legged quarterback. Defense continues to improve. 2 of 3 at home! It was 2 out of 23 at home coming into this year!

  39. Historically we've been bad. Look we just need a culture change. I don't think its fair to compare Dallas fans to our fans because we have students from all over the state and we're a university...not a professional team. It will be a task to change it but it is something that can be done in due time. Lets enjoy the win and stop bitching.

  42. Somehow, the higher-ups have decided that it has to be an "either-or" situation rather than a "both-and" situation. For decades, we have successfully been known as the Eagles with the nickname the "Mean Green." Since we changed our name to the University of North Texas, people have interchangeably referred to the school both as "North Texas" and "UNT" with no confusion whatsoever. You can say either "OU" or "Oklahoma," and people understand what you're saying either way, and no one gets offended. As far as schools that want to be known only by their initials, usually it's because they're embarrassed about their name. TCU tries to downplay the "Christian," SMU tries to downplay the "Methodist," just like KFC tries to downplay the "fried." Florida International sounds like an airport, so "FIU" it is. But why would we be ashamed of North Texas? We're proud of our state, we have a long history as "North Texas" in some form or another--what's to hide?

  43. Tell our leaders to put down the "marketing 101 textbook" and concentrate on winning football and basketball games and being competitive in athletics as a whole.

  44. Given the product on the field the last several years. I can't say I blame people wanting to watch or go to the ALCS game vs the NT game. It is what it is. Win on the field and give people a reason to come to your game over other events and the stadium will be filled.

  45. to me, there isn't a question as to which thing i would attend. north texas is my school...i am a part of it...the rangers, i am a fan, but am not part of it...didn't go to texas rangers school or ever play for them. i hope they win, but apogee is where we should be on saturday. rain is showing 20% chance at about 6pm, with winds in the teens...
