I personally don't mind not being able to buy an actual authentic Nike jersey. But I would love a bigger hat and t-shirt selection from Nike. Maybe I'm in the minority but I prefer jerseys for my pro teams and t-shirts for my college. It would also be a humble brag to talk about takling Cyrus Gray in high school... or holding on to his leg until reinforcements arrived.3 points

I live in west Texas. There are thousands of these wind turbines out here and I have yet to see a pile of birds at the base of one. CBL, I'm not a tree hugging liberal, just tired of the statistics folks throw around when they don't agree with something. I think we should be drilling in the Gulf, in Alaska, off both coasts and in ANWAR. I also think we should be utilizing natural gas in more ways than cooking and heating. We have a huge surplus of natural gas and not one automaker is producing a vehicle that burns on natural gas. Instead, they produce electric vehicles at Obama's urging, yet our electrical grid system in the United States can't handle extreme weather temperatures and the load put on the system when we experience these weather issues. We had rolling blackouts out here when the weather was extremely cold this past winter, yet Obama wants everyone to drive an electric car.3 points

We could put it right next to the windmills at the stadium. Imagine the press we'd get: Apogee Stadium: the first stadium in the country powered by wind and pussy.3 points

Very poorly done, maybe I have not spend enough time in Denton but where can you stay that is in walking distance of all that entertainment? I am all for capitalism;but was there a similar try to lure Houston fans to Denton for the inaugural Apolgee game? Are there anymore OU fans that are going to stay 40 miles from the game in Denton, than there were Houston or for that matter UNT fans in the first home game? The same holds true for the FAU game, I am sure there will be few traveling from Florida but how about the many NT fans that don't live in the Denton area. I only live an hour away, but I might tempted by this type of advertising to stay in Denton Friday or Saturday if they actually outlined some other events Friday night or Saturday night other than the game. I have no problem with Denton marketing to OU fans, but why not try to do more for your home town university's events.3 points

Have you ever seen a wind turbine? They are still painted the same color as always, white, and the blades don't even turn that fast. Their are too many to count out here in west Texas, and I have yet to see a pile of dead birds behind any or any reports of an odd number of bird deaths. Below are statistics on the causes of bird deaths annually: Man-made structure/technology Associated bird deaths per year (U.S.) Feral and domestic cats Hundreds of millions [source: AWEA] Power lines 130 million -- 174 million [source: AWEA] Windows (residential and commercial) 100 million -- 1 billion [source: TreeHugger] Pesticides 70 million [source: AWEA] Automobiles 60 million -- 80 million [source: AWEA] Lighted communication towers 40 million -- 50 million [source: AWEA] Wind turbines 10,000 -- 40,000 [source: ABC]3 points

Surely Nike could make a few 7 year olds work an hour of overtime one day this week and produce 100 jerseys for our fans3 points

I think it would look better and reflect more positively upon our school if the business majors wore business suits to the games. I mean, are we proud, or what? No Men's Wearhouse, either. And don't even get me started on that outfit that Derek Harper advertises. Jeez.3 points

I dare each and every one of you wear wear one of those stupid band uniforms. Look at a uniform. Look at it. Band uniforms are one of the dumbest "traditions" that we have out there in this country. They were originally supposed to be quasi-military uniforms, I guess...and then they have transformed from there. I'd say our Green Brigade members resemble musicians much more than military servicemen/women... I really don't think matching t-shirts are all that important, but that just gives them a "uniform" look. Wear green and get over it. What a stupid waste of energy to discuss this. THEY SOUNDED GREAT, AND LOOKED JUST FINE! If they show up, play well, and root on the football team...maybe even prompting the crowd to get into it, then great! The band is there to enhance the football game experience, and it just so happens that our band is better than 99% of any other one out there... If they didn't come to the games, our stadium would look even more empty. This thread should be erased and forgotten. Oh, wait, what was I thinking, if the Green Brigade was wearing uniforms, we'd be 4 - 0...I'm sorry. Forgive me for being so stupid.3 points

God: "What's that going on down there. A baseball game? Who's playing? The Cubs? They have not won in forever. Maybe I should keep my eye on this. Wait, I have an idea. Let's give their fans a test. After all, players come and go, but it is the fan that has suffered through all that losing, so let's see if they deserve a World Series. Let's put a pop fly riiiiight there. Now, let's have an ordinary fan, one of their own, do what any fan would do. There ya go. About as borderline as I can make it. Now let's see how their fans react to this poor kid's plight...............................What the heck?? Well, that answers that question. No game 7 win. Guess I'll check back in another 80 years. After all, I've got a lot more important stuff to do"2 points

Will probably get -1s for this, but while I understand this viewpoint, there's one thing I don't think a lot of folks take into account is that these schools are non-profit entities and the profits from football goes to bettering the universities. I know a few people make really big salaries, but the people who make these decisions aren't typically the ones whose salaries depend on sports making lots of money. They may be greedy, but its for new science buildings and libraries for their schools, not yachts and big bank accounts.2 points

The wind turbines have been getting some bad press of late. One I read said they are more trouble than they are really worth and are not that great as a provider of energy. Bird and American eagle lovers have a case that the windmill like turbines kill thousands of birds of all species, especially eagles. Maybe our UNT BOR's need to take another look at this before they get too green on an idea that may not be so keen?2 points

I'm sure there is a reason and it very well may be our 5 year record under "another" coach, but why haven't either of our home games at Apogee Stadium (best stadium in the 'Belt and for televisng games, too) not made the SBC Television schedule? Is Wright Waters still goo-goo eyed over his forecast of "the next Boise State" located over in Mobile, Alabama, or what? O God, please, please, please, please get us out of all this (clean wordage, of course)......................." Amen.2 points

I purchased the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Internet feed of the game. If you can get to Tulsa for the game, do that and support the team. If you can't and Allen isn't too far for you, come join us. This will be our third watching party this season. Each one has been well attended by the Mean Green Faithful. Nothing like watching the game with fellow fans. I'm still working on this week's drink specials. Thanks for the kind words, SUMG.2 points

1) I usually go to a Texas game to start the year (tradition-thing with the SO) and the Longhorn Band has NEVER come out in full uniform for the first few games of the year. It's both the heat and the uniforms, but that isn't unusual at all. Nobody cares by the time they hit "Orange and White." 2) The GB sounds - impressive. The acoustics of Apogee certainly help, but there's such an incredibly high level of musicianship, it's easy to get spoiled quick and start worrying about other things, like uniforms. 3) The Music Department has done so much to make UNT relevant as an institution that if they wanted the band to wear peacock outfits with 90's "rising meatball" UNT logos while being called the prancing diddlys, I'm cool with it. 4) It was good to hear the swing fight song again! Been awhile since we've had a reason to use it. 5) Best friend in high school was in the flag corps to get chicks. He married one of them outta high school and has been with her for 5 years. I played football in high school for a (now) 5A all-male school. So did my ex-boyfriend. Appearances are almost always deceiving.2 points

While you definitely have a sports claim to TCU, I think the rules of college football fandom clearly state in section 8, paragraph 3 that if your Alma Mater and your favorite childhood team play at home on the same day, and you have to choose one or the other, you choose your Alma Mater. Especially when your childhood team is playing a FCS team. Family exception clearly outlined in Section 9, paragraph 6 says that you may attend the TCU game if: "an immediate family member is receiving an honor from said university or immediate family member is the starting QB for said university (any other position this exception is voided)." If you didn't have the family exception, you should have been at the UNT game. The Officail Rules of College Football Fandom says so.2 points

I'm more than pleased with the new stadium but I have ask, is it just me or does the spacing between the seats seem to be small. I have 4 seats and when 4 adults set next to each other, it is more than just a little cramped.1 point

They will still hate and blame Texas forever. They will now finish 3rd or 4th in their division and still blame Texas. The one certainty about Aggies is that they will always be Aggies.1 point

Why are we arguing about this uniform still? It' not a matter of aesthetics or temperture. The band simply doesn't have enough uniforms. Good, bad, indifferent, poor planning, lack of money- whatever the reason- they just don't have the uniforms. Calling a "good number of the members.. portly" REALLY? They are a perfectly equally distributed band. Just as fat and skinny as the rest of the nation. That's a silly observation.1 point

I don't disagree with you but our own people are our own worst enemy. We talk about the 100K alumni living in the area, 37K students and plus we just opened a beautiful football stadium and we can't sellout any of the first two home games. To me that is more cause for concern than a few radio guys spending 10 seconds on the UNT game this past weekend. I'd like them to talk about our school just as much as anybody but unfortunately right now that is just not a reality. The fact is that a handful of people on a UNT forum won't make much difference to them. We hav won 11 games in the last 6 years and we're off to a 1-3 start this season. During the bowl years while they didn't spend segments on them but I remember hearing there being more discussion on The Ticket about UNT. No need to bitch about a battle we're clearly not going to win right now. Just win win win and sell that stadium and basketball arena out and maybe then you'll see a little change.1 point

I would think, on average, that the football players are a weee bit better conditioned to run around in pads for 3 hours than MGB members are conditioned to run around in uniforms for 10 minutes. You're seriously demanding that a significant number of those kids put themselves at serious risk of heat stroke for your aesthetic enjoyment.1 point

What was I being close minded about? Points 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 are all factually based. As to point 3- I was merely trying to summarize why the band plays what/when they do. As to point 7- Are we really that "old school" that we can't have boys in color guard? Often times the most talented members of Drum Corps Color Guard are the guys. I think not wanting guys in colorguard is close minded. I don't see where I was being defensive, rather just explaining the reasons about why the GB does what the GB does.1 point

.... Do we really have nothing better to criticize than the Number 1 Collegiate Marching Band in the nation? 1. There are more than 320 members in the GB. There just aren't enough uniforms. They are working on other alternatives so that way everybody can be in a uniform of some kind. As an alumnus of the GB- we definitely have worn our uniforms in the heat- we aren't wimps. There just aren't enough uniforms for them this year. 2. The logo draws its image from the "angles" side of the breast plate. It is definitely a North Texas based logo. 3. The GB will never be "as good as it used to be" or "never play enough music." The GB plays as much as a they can. Having conducted the Basketball Band, I know that the guys in the booth are always communicating with the director on when to play, and when they will play music over the speaker. I can't imagine FB games are any different. Not to mention- the GB can't play in every break because there are lots of ads that need to be played. 4. The band plays the same "fanfare" every defensive third down- ending in "North Texas Fiiiiiiiiiggggghhhhhttttt!!!" Which typically is what gets the crowd yelling. You're welcome. 5. The Green Brigade always marches with a "straight leg corps style". I don't know about this whole "military" vs. "show band" style you're talking about. They always march the same... I don't think you know what you're talking about. 6. They play the fight song and spell out UNT with their limited pregame time... What other "North Texas-ey" spirit thing could they do? 7. An issue with the guys in color guard? One of those guys is a fraternity brother- so thank you for your 1970's close minded view of the world.1 point
