  1. 1. Haven't seen NT's defense hit that hard since the championship days 2. Big coaching error not to anticipate the first IU on-side kickoff 3. Great kick off coverage 4. Who cares if fans "rush" the field 5. Anyone note that Arkansas got 17 yards rushing against Alabama 6. NT was doing a much better job of estimating the crowd at Fouts, honesty is not always the best policy 7. Lay off Thompson, he like the team has gotten better every week 8. Enough complaining about the fabulous stadium; parking, walk, prices- At least act like you have been to a big time game 9. The Belt is wide open, FIU's loss guarantees that NT can still win the conference 10. The Band was great, unless you can donate enough for summer uniforms, give it a rest This post has been promoted to an article

  2. .... Do we really have nothing better to criticize than the Number 1 Collegiate Marching Band in the nation? 1. There are more than 320 members in the GB. There just aren't enough uniforms. They are working on other alternatives so that way everybody can be in a uniform of some kind. As an alumnus of the GB- we definitely have worn our uniforms in the heat- we aren't wimps. There just aren't enough uniforms for them this year. 2. The logo draws its image from the "angles" side of the breast plate. It is definitely a North Texas based logo. 3. The GB will never be "as good as it used to be" or "never play enough music." The GB plays as much as a they can. Having conducted the Basketball Band, I know that the guys in the booth are always communicating with the director on when to play, and when they will play music over the speaker. I can't imagine FB games are any different. Not to mention- the GB can't play in every break because there are lots of ads that need to be played. 4. The band plays the same "fanfare" every defensive third down- ending in "North Texas Fiiiiiiiiiggggghhhhhttttt!!!" Which typically is what gets the crowd yelling. You're welcome. 5. The Green Brigade always marches with a "straight leg corps style". I don't know about this whole "military" vs. "show band" style you're talking about. They always march the same... I don't think you know what you're talking about. 6. They play the fight song and spell out UNT with their limited pregame time... What other "North Texas-ey" spirit thing could they do? 7. An issue with the guys in color guard? One of those guys is a fraternity brother- so thank you for your 1970's close minded view of the world.

  3. First, let me say it was a pleasure to meet, visit at length at the Pavilion, and attend the Mean Green March with a true fan...scrappyman1. The pleasure was mine. Second, it was a bit annoying and disconcerting to peer east from my seats in 207 and see many people still milling around on The Hill. I'm not pointing fingers but it looked like Greek territory to me. Come on people, leave those old habits behind with Fouts and get your butts in seats. You missed a very good performance by our Mean Green.

  4. My wife is also an Aggie. When I attend Aggie games I wear Aggie gear to support my wife. She does the same for me when we are at Mean Green events and sports Mean Green gear.

  5. A girl in our group POLITELY called him out on it. He then bought her a hot dog. Moral: a little kindness goes a long way - possibly as far as 10 inches.

  7. How about the first win for Dan McCarney, first win at Apogee Stadium, first win over a Big Ten team, and first home win since 2009?

  8. Yes, it is sad. It's really disturbing how many students will tailgate for 4 hours and not go into the game, especially girls. When you ask them why they dont go in you usually get the, "I'm gonna go take a nap and get ready to go out tonight" excuse. Pathetic

  9. I will be at Apogee Stadium tailgating all day with plenty of homemade food doing all I can to get as many people there as I can. I just have battled this before. The newest advantages we have now is our beautiful stadium and our outstanding tailgate area. Much better then in the Fout's parking lot! We lured 4 newbies into the game last Saturday alone, I think we will see them coming back.

  10. Last night, as he was going to commercial break, Babe Laufenberg announced, "And for you UNT fans, your highlights are coming up next." When he came back from break, he showed all three NT touchdowns, saying about Lance Dunbar, "I love that guy." After saying that North Texas beat his alma mater, he called Indiana a really bad football team (but not in a way that was detracting from our win). Then, one of the guys that sits in front of me at Apogee (he works at Channel 11), brought out a big North Texas flag, held it up in front of Babe and then wrapped Babe in it in a sports hug. If anyone happened to DVR this, please post. Babe was very nice at the game and gave NT big love on the air. Channel 11: 43% less happy talk than the market leader! Watch it. GMG

  13. Waah! Why can't we average more than 20,000 in a game? Why doesn't DFW respect us? Why doesn't WFAA and the Morning News cover us?? Why, oh why! Hey! Over there! A douche in a Longhorns hat! GET HIM! KICK HIS TEETH OUT AND THROW HIM OFF CAMPUS!!!!!!!! Oh woe is us! Nobody likes us! We should be embraced by the entire metroplex! HEY! DOUCHE! THAT'S A DICKEY ERA LOGO! GTFO OF HERE! Call me crazy (and many people have), but I don't recall from Marketing 101 that you grow your market share by ridiculing potential customers and "calling them out" at every turn. If somebody doesn't tailgate/stand/chant/cheer/dress exactly like you do, that doesn't make their cash and their support invalid. It still spends.

  18. I'm not even sure what you're talking about there. Yes, he was rotating players through the game, same as our coaching staff tries to do. Yes, he was using 2 QBs, but he had done the same thing in his previous 2 games, including against Penn State. But the starters were a long way from being pulled in the 2nd quarter, considering it was 20-0 at the half.

  19. Maybe it is just me, but I'm not going to call someone out for wearing their colors. My wife is an Aggie and several years ago we went to a A&M/Texas Tech game in College Station. I wore my Mean Green gear, just like I always do. If that makes me a ****** then so be it. On the other hand, if you come to a North Texas game wearing UT gear and you never went to UT...then all bets are off.

  22. As a former Greek, I know that many Greeks see tailgaiting as a huge party, and the reason they are out there has nothing to do with the game. It is stupid, but that is the mindset of the people standing out on the hill all game. Some fraternities are worse than others, and I think the some of the sororities do a better job supporting NT than some of the fraternities. A couple of the frats do a very good job, and some of them are awful. Thankfully, it seems the tide seems to be turning in our favor, it is just going to take time.

  23. I'm cool with the band wearing t-shirts and shorts. However, I do wish they'd source the shorts from one supplier so they are at least the same color khaki. Maybe call Dickies over in Ft. Worth I'd wager they could fill an order of 300+.

  24. Sorry but people should be smart enough to not wear a third teams gear to a sporting event. I would rather that he was wearing Indiana gear than TU. If he doesn't want to be ridiculed, don't wear the wrong gear.

  25. First, I want this team to have players who have experienced back to back wins! Let's get the steps in order.

  26. North Texas is moving in the right direction, the team looks better from week to week! I think we will look better next week, does that mean we win I hope so but not necessarily. I love the huge progress across the board, special teams most improved, a hard hitting defense (God I missed this) and a clock controlling offense. Yes this is the beginning of something BIG!

  27. No offense Harry, the "douche" label is cute but we need an that is more indicative of the the person receiving it. For people wearing "longwhorn" hats, or smuT looking shirts, or anything that is not approprate at a UNT game, I think we should have a "richard" head award, if you know what I mean. We could even find a trophy that looks like "richard" head. You could award this "trophy" to some non-UNT fan who really screws up at tailgating, or a fan at the game. Opposing fan, of course.

  28. Great call, Harry. OT: I like the fairly new thing, of numerous chicks wearing Mean Green dresses to games. (If you haven't seen it...it's not just the color...the dresses are North Texas specific).

  29. Personally, I think this is a good discussion to have. I don't mind playing McNulty, and getting someone ready NOW in case Thompson is hurt or something, so the redshirt thought is no problem for me. I just wonder about the decisions as to when they put McNulty into the game. Sending in a "cold" QB, and col;d QB, in critical game situations is not my idea of how to get a kid ready to play. BUT, I think I'll leave this up to Coach Mac and Coach Canales. UNT has three QB's...all young. So, I don't think there will be a QB problem any time soon such as we are now facing with so many youngsters...well, two anyway. I'll bet there is a QB or two on the recruiting radar screen as well. These kids usually do not come to any team with the hopes of sitting out a full year. They want to compete and they want to play. For me, I don't think Coach Mac "owes" me any explanation. Now, I'd like to hear what he has to say about the timing of the McNulty "experiences" simply because I think it would be interesting to learn what the thought process is about this sort of thing from an experienced coach. But, "owe me", I think not on that concept. Would I appreciate it, yes, certainly. Everyone knows, you can send that question in through Facebook for the Coach Mac show this evening, right? Two-three questions get asked and answered from facebook submissions every show. Maybe we'll hear some of the thinking on these situations tonight. Tune in or show up and let's hope we hear something. The question I would like to ask is, who called that pass play that Thompson threw for the "pick six" with UNT up 24-0 and needing to run the clock? Ha! Me, I'd rather punt after a three and out in that situation and let them "eat clock" trying to score. But, that's just me, and I don't get paid the "big bucks" to make that decision. I did see Coach mac in Chico's ear after that play. You think he was saying something like...."wow, super call...let's do that again when we get the ball back"???? It was a great day for the Mean Green Nation and I look at the comeback by Indiana this way...what a good deal for the coaches come practice this week. The win can be celebrated, but they still have things to "talk about" with the team...like how to finish off a win, how to not take leads for granted, how to not get too confident, etc., etc. Lots of "film day" mistakes in that last 15 min. to keep the team a bit humble going into the Tulsa game. That "silver lining" thing for the coaches after having to endure that 4th quarter. GREAT seeing the students rush the field. Great day in total for the Mean Green nation...bring on Tulsa!

  41. I was unforunate to not be able to make the game and was stuck down here in Houston. So, I hooked up the computer to the TV and watched while streaming on ESPN 3. Worked out great. This game on TV was night and day better than from Fouts. It felt big time. Crowd noise was loud. It sounded like a college game. I remember hearing individual voices at Fouts and barely any crowd. But the crowd was loud and you could tell it was an issue for their team. This was with a 2/3 stadium capacity. The band sounded great! I could clearly hear our fight song and the words as the crowd sang them. It was awesome. Sight lines were great. When panning to the sidelines, you could see the crowd. You could tell the cameras were closer to the field as you felt more on top of the action from an angle standpoint, almost like they were looking down. RV was a class act and so were the announcers when they interviewed him. Listening to RV list out the accomplishments and milestones over the last 10 years and see where we are today, really rang home how far we've come. As far as the arms race goes, we're in great position for the future. I haven't always had faith that him and his staff would deliver, but they did and he deserves mucho kudos. It is hard for me to believe that we're not on conference radars in all this shuffle, because the commitment is there. We just need our coaches and teams to bring the wins. Watching the game while on a rollercoaster high of 24-0 at that point, I couldn't have been more proud of the Mean Green. Not just the team and their effort, but the overall shape of the program and AD. In 2001 and through 2004, just never felt that we were actually turning the corner. But, I am drinking the coolaid now. Now, if the team can get these silly penalties and turnovers under control, that game would have been a blowout. That pick 6 was a real game changer. If they can put all 4 quarters together then we'll be a formidable opponent the rest of the season. First we asked to put a good 1st half together after FIU. Then we asked them to put together a second half after UH. Last night they put together 3 pretty good quarters. If you follow that logic, next week we'll be rolling all 4!! lol

  42. UTSA is doing much better (in terms of support) than I thought they would. They have leveled out at about 30K for attendance with the city supplying a good portion of those fans. My girlfriend is from San Antonio and when I first told her about the start up football program down there, she dismissed it. Yesterday some of her old friends went to the game and they were won over. It looks like the city will support it - as opposed to the UTSA basketball team - because they are playing in the Alamo Dome, so the city is treating it like a pro team. And if they start winning and playing name teams, that attendance will go up.... So I can't believe that I am going to say this but the Belt should really consider UTSA for membership. If we don't, they will find a home somewhere. The WAC is not going to make it through this mess so UTSA will need a home when they transition. Let them make the move up with the WAC and when they start to move up the rankings, invite them to the Belt. They would jump all over that invite (just like La Tech will) - the WAC will be dessimated with no tv, no BCS membership, and no bowl opportunities after this year. That would give us the 12 teams: East: FIU FAU Troy MT WKU USA (divisional play would open up opportunities to increase rivalries) West: ASU La Tech ULM Louisiana North Texas UTSA (three Louisiana schools, two in Texas, and one Arkansas school that is an easy drive up the Interstate) This is an old map - from when UNO and Denver were still in the league - but you can see how both La Tech and UTSA would fall nicely into our footprint. Any money that we would lose be splitting the pie into more pieces will be more than saved by the geography of this regional play. Of course, La Tech might demand to be in the West or East specifically to stay away from ULM - but I would take a hard stance against any concessions to them. They will need us much more than we will need them. If they won't play ball, we bring in Texas State-San Marcos instead. NMSU is just too freaking far away (but I would love to schedule them for an OOC series). This post has been promoted to an article

  46. Exact same thing happened to me but it was a wedding reception. Wife said we had to leave at 8:00 but I talked her into letting me stay a couple series after the field goal. I've been giving the groom H-E-double hockey sticks ever since we got the invitation a few months ago. Who in their freaking mind plans any type of event from September - December???
