The more I read about this super conference realignment, the sicker it makes me. Not just for UNT, but for college athletics. I was reading an article about Kansas and K-State and how they probably will get left behind, just like Baylor and Iowa State, most likely and it just made me realize how disgusting this is truly going to be. All because their football teams and their TV markets aren't attractive enough--never mind those great TV markets of Starkville, MS and Pullman, WA or those football powerhouses at Duke and Vanderbilt. Basically, we will get 64 teams who will form the NFL's unofficial minor leagues (Alabama will be Atlanta's AAA team, Georgia Tech will be AA, etc..) and eventually separate from the NCAA. Its just amazing in its audacity--and there is almost nothing that can be done about it. I anticipate ESPN and other outlets basically paying out to these big schools to get them as their own. That wonderful NCAA Tournament that everyone loves? How about the BCS Tournament--because that's the plan. That beautiful College World Series? How about the BCS World Series--just awful. Here is what bothers me most about this all for our alma mater. I have said it before and I will say it again. The beautiful Apogee Stadium saved our football program here, but playing in a level of sports below the highest level really makes me worry about the backlash the anti-athletics folks are going to spew at our leaders for building this stadium, if we are not at the FBS level. God help us if we are still playing SBC-type teams as conference mates in the future in this scenario. Maybe the silver lining in all of this would be that this would be the final push that would convince the leftover Texas schools to reduce costs and increase attendance. But if this finally happened, because we are all now in a new I-AA, would a game between UNT and SMU still get attended and covered well? Would TCU-SMU still get attended/covered well? I know that we are all already after-thoughts as compared to the current Big XII schools, but imagine how it will be if the superconfernces get put into place? How many of these left-over schools might just give it up because they don't want to participate at a level below the Superconferneces? Again, it just sickens me that this is the direction that we are headed. You can say that Texas, OU, USC, Ohio State, ND, etc...all developed their fanbases and followings to substantiate this superconference thing, while the rest of us didn't, but it doesn't make it right for what is happening now--not in the least.2 points

Robinson's quote from this very article: "The competition was like a whole new level," he said. "These guys, every last one of them can play. The practices were very physical. I've got a lot of respect for these guys. They're good teammates, good people to be around, good relationships. "It lets you know what you need to work on, what your weaknesses are and how you need to improve your strengths to get better. It lets you know that high school is over. It's a grown man's game now." From the mouths of babes. Everyone needs to keep this in mind when this team struggles early, which it will. A lot of these guys are seeing competition the likes they have never seen before. Forrest was speaking of an All-Star game of high school seniors. Imagine when these guys are going up against 21 and 22 year old upper classmen night after night. We are all excited, but let's just keep the challenge ahead in a little bit of perspective.2 points

Case Keenum is more physically gifted, but Moore is a technician. I'll take Kellen Moore. All he does is win.2 points

Should be a beautiful evening, and our first night game of the year. For those of you fortunate enough to make the trip, anyone doing brisket?? Of course BBQ in the South is pulled pork, but I enjoy both. Looking forward to seeing Chancellor compete with our secondary. As a BBQ guy, thought I would ask it anyone has a personal brisket or sauce recipe they would like to share?? Thanks, and hope you guys enjoy the trip!2 points

Not going to say much about the dream to avoid jinxing it, but I will say that we weren't hanging our heads at the end of the game.1 point

I'm not what you'd call a "fancy man". It's me, a bottle of Jack, a 12 of Lone Star, and a disapproving wife. Can't beat it.... or probably Alabama.1 point

i think we need to look at this as a natural evolution in the growth of major college football. just as division 1aa was established, so will a division 1a+, with unt in 1a. think of high school football with classes 3a,4a,and 5a. it doesn't make sense for ut with athletic budget of $100 million to be in the same classification as ulm with a $10 million budget. just an old man's opinion.1 point

Robertson reminds me of Fouts. I'd rather not include it in this argument. Lets see what Houston's new stadium is like. As for Ford. I think Ford is attractive from the outside. Not a big fan of the interior. It appears small and low inside Ford. I don't think it is a very intimidating place to play. To me, Apogee appears larger then it is. In the daytime, Apogee's exterior is not as attractive as Ford, but at night when all the lights are on, Apogee shines like a star. Add in "the Hill" and Apogee's exterior improves greatly. I think it's close, but I give it to Apogee. If we factor attendance into the equation, Apogee is the clear winner. I think we will out draw SMU this season, even if we do have another off year. 1. Apogee- A 2. Ford- B- Robertson- Incomplete1 point

That blackout wouldn't apply to us since we're the away team, right? I know this is probably a stupid question, but just to make sure.1 point

So I am in the Fremont Experience watching this great 80's band called the Whip Its on stage - zip liners flying above, creatures and characters taking photographs etc etc etc. This guys comes up to me after noticing my Mean Green shirt and says, "Dude are you all going to cover tomorrow? They are giving you 47 points. I was reluctant to go with my heart because I too have heard about betting and your own team...He was like, "You really think Alabama is going to beat you all by 47 points? I hated that I couldn't feel confident at 46 or even 43. He left dejected because he wants those 47 bad. After he left I thought - no way we get beat by 47. As I told him, it will be a mercy victory for the Tide. They will win by 40. Going to the Hawaii game at UNLV tomorrow - they will again have 15 - 20 thousand draped in green tea leaves and war paint going strong. Oh how I would love to go to Sam Boyd to watch the Mean Green play a conference game. Go Mean Green!!!!!1 point

The best bet for those not getting an invite to the Bc$ are to form 12+ team regional conferences. 3 or 4 conferences coving the West, Midwest, East, and Northeast.1 point

I was thinking more along the lines of the Big East reloading with ECU and UCF, opening two spots in CUSA...1 point

The scary thing is what a BCS split from the NCAA will do to the basketball tournament. Like Jim said, the NCAA will be relegated to a status probably a step below the NIT (because the BCS teams that don't make the BCS tournament will go to the NIT, not the NCAAs). This is the reason that I think the NCAA will whore themselves out to the BCS for football, hoping to hold together a failing system (at least for schools like UNT) for the sake of the money maker that is the NCAA tournament. It's amazing how inside one organization they can get one sport so right on and another so F'd up.1 point

There are two types of people in this world. 1. People who are bad at making lists.1 point

A few things: 1.) K-State had the ability to dumb-down their OOC schedules for years because they had the luxury of playing home games each year against Oklahoma, Nebraska, Colorado, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa State. Some of those teasm were national champions, finished in the top ten regularly, or were bitter rivals that were close to Manhattan. If we tried to dumb-down our schedule in OOC for us to win, it would be horrendous to our athletic department, just because our SBC brethren literally bring nothing to our gate. The games against UH, Tulsa, SMU, La Tech, Rice, and the academies are perfect for OOC but even those games don't pay for women's soccer and golf the way one of these bodybag games do, which leads to point #2... 2.) Our OOC bodybag games have been scheduled incorrectly. We should never play an SEC powerhouse because they literally are the best that college football has to offer. Arky State figured this out--they have played tough games at Iowa and Illinois over the last few years and got paid. When they have played Auburn, they get blown out and crushed and paid, too. The Big Ten, Big East, Pac-12, and ACC are full of teams that will pay us to come there and play, but they at least give yourself a chance to compete, unlike this week's game. Basically I would ignore playing any big-time SEC school (everyone but Kentucky, Vandy, and the Mississippi schools), as well Oklahoma and Florida State from outside of the SEC. Obviously, the other big dogs in the Big Ten, Pac-12, etc..could easily put a huge beatdown on us (especially now), too, but watching MTSU barely lose at Purdue, Arky State giving Illinois a decent game, having seen Arky State almost beat Iowa a few years back, Troy giving Ohio State a game a few years back and remembering the great Appy State win over Michigan just makes me realize how much better your chances are of competing with those Rust Belt teams that are less athletic than the teams from the South. 3.) Boise State used their location and their city to build up a winner. They literally have no competition for their product. If you look at their scheduling, it was easy to do because their support and attendance was strong from the start. The closest NFL/MLB town is Seattle, the closest NBA town is Portland, and the closest AQ teams were in Washington and Oregon, and they scheduled--and beat--each of those teams in that region.1 point

Why can't UNT shoot high and try to get in to the Big East if all this happens? I realize its a longshot but we need to whore our school out and see where it takes us. TCU needs a traveling partner. As it is CUSA is pretty meh and you take out UCF and ECU that is a pretty cruddy conference.-1 points

Just curious about what you folks are going to be imbibing for the game tonight. I'm rocking out the magic hat Oktoberfest, and a few Abita ambers. May have to get more at halftime to drown my sorrows. Go mean green.-1 points
