  1. There are two types of people in this world. 1. People who are bad at making lists.

  2. I have spent the last several hours thinking about your posting and I have come to a conclusion: Sir, that is about the dumbest posting I have ever seen on the GoMeanGreen board in my three + years of reading it and I have seen some lulus. Most people would accept that one’s ethical makeup is displayed on a daily basis in all situations. Therefore, I can only conclude that the lack of ethics displayed by you on a sports fan board reflects the lack of ethical behavior that you also display in the business world. You have essentially said that the objective/goal for North Texas is to win even if it requires cheating – and that cheating will bring in more fans (might we call them “customers”) and greater contributions (might we call them “profits”?). Given that your ethical compass has lost its way, please tell us what business you own, or what company you work for, so that I for one can avoid ever purchasing a good or service from your company. All of us that support the University of North Texas athletic program, especially football, want to win and I want to win as much as anyone associated with this program – guaranteed! But it is loose cannons like you, with questionable ethical values, that create huge problems for college and university athletic departments and scare athletic directors to death.

  3. Should be a beautiful evening, and our first night game of the year. For those of you fortunate enough to make the trip, anyone doing brisket?? Of course BBQ in the South is pulled pork, but I enjoy both. Looking forward to seeing Chancellor compete with our secondary. As a BBQ guy, thought I would ask it anyone has a personal brisket or sauce recipe they would like to share?? Thanks, and hope you guys enjoy the trip!

  5. Let me be just straight-out honest here - and I hope the University of North Texas Athletic Department officials, coaches, AND the President of our university read this - and I hope they care: If the athletic department at this university should choose to operate a program that is based on cheating in order to be successful........I, along with my contributions to this program, am out of here! Pure and simple - no ifs, ands, or buts! We win with ethical behavior, pride, and class or this athletic program can follow your suggestion without me. GMG

  6. Make this the second then. Was in Richardson, TX, last year and had some brisket tacos at a mexican joint there. They were slap yo momma good. It all comes down to what your area produces more of...Texas produces tons of beef and we produce tons of pork. Perfect tailgate plate would include some fine brisket and dry rub pork ribs.

  13. Perhaps if we can win by only 7 points, it will become our generations second time in the past 5 years to experience an attack on Pearl Harbor or terrorists flying planes into buildings. If we lose by only 7 maybe it will be like the forest fires in Bastrop or the Tuscaloosa Tornado. Maybe even Hurricane Katrina. If only we had a football coach that knew these things...

  14. The reason I hate games like this week is that, in building their program into a winner, Kansas State didn't schedule a bunch of money games. They went with I-AAs and common strength I-As at home. It worked. I just don't see - and probably never will - the benefit to the mindset of a team like ours scheduling a sure loss. Winning helps the confidence of a team, no matter who the opponent is. We were sky high after beating Ball State a couple of seasons ago. Ball State! We need more winnable games. Houston and Indiana are fine. Alabama, Texas, LSU, Arkansas, OU, etc. - not so much.

  17. This is really a sad comment, and says a great deal more than just about football. If this represents the current thinking of even a minority of the people in this great nation of ours then God help us as no one else can.

  18. On this I am in 100% agreement. Win with ethical behavior, pride and class. It certainly can be done.

  19. This brings to mind the old philosophical question: If the Mean Green lay a beatdown on their opponent and no TV cameras are there to broadcast it, did it really happen? Think about it.

  20. We should never play the Alabama and LSU's of the world. If you really need one money game a year, then teams like Clemson, Ole Miss, Colorado, Kansas, etc. would be good. Playing a top 5 team in the nation does us absolutely no good.

  21. Yes, any TV is better than no TV. Even if it is LHN. Think about this, if we have a big win and its not on TV, nobody will have highlights to show. If we are on TV, that takes away the excuse that the game wasn't televised so we don't have highlights to show on the evening news.
    1 point
  22. I believe, that's three, not two. Anyway, going in reverse order . . . 3. I don't see how not being televised at all is a positive thing. Unless maybe you receive a mighty whupping that you hope nobody notices happened. Otherwise giving people an opportunity to watch the games and grow attached to them is a very good thing. In the 80's and 90's, the Cubs and Braves built large national followings because they could watch their games on cable TV. Now if it's between ABC and the LHN, give me LHN every time. But it's not going to be a black mark on our program because we were televised on the LHN. 2. We are less than that start up football team in a sense if their games are televised and ours are not. 1. Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

  25. like Tulsa (X2), Rice (X2), Ball State, Army (2X), Ohio, & Indiana? I think the schedules over the past 3-4 years have been super balanced and have provided UNT with all kinds of opportunities to win. We've only capitalized once though.

  27. Probably wouldn't be top choice for UH, but I think CUSA East teams would raise the biggest objections. Most of them think we already have too many TX schools. They want more eastern based teams if possible if expansion occurs.

  29. This has been a problem at sporting events, concerts and group gatherings for more than a decade. Lucky for me, AT&T customers have it the worst. No problems at any games since I switched to Verizon/Droid. Congratulations guys, you just learned something neat about cellular coverage in large crowds. Let's hope it continues to be a problem all season long.

  30. We are only playing one "body bag game" this year. We used to have to play 2 or 3 per year during the 90's. It is not the one loss to the major powerhouse program that is going to keep us from growing the program. The losses to the Houston's, Tulsa's, etc. that we are trying to be like hurt more. These are the teams we are recruiting against and are in the conferences that we want to be in.

  32. Yea. It's super generic. He don't give a darn about Coac McCarney. I didn't even think that Saban looking at Mac and the Coordinator's old teams' tapes was an option they needed to think about when they prepare for us.

  33. Sample size is a bit small thus far. 1st half of the houston game has been the only real evidence of this to me. I think this may just be some respect AND generic talk for dan from saban. He has to talk about something for this game.

  35. But that would mean all the teams in the Belt, MAC, and WAC would have the extra ships... I do agree that 3 scholarships is a slap on the wrist. Could it be that the NCAA knows they will soon have to deal with Ohio St. and Miami and want to get out in front of the weak penalties those programs will receive? We never walked in the moon, Elvis ain't dead, you ain't goin crazy, it's all in your head.

  36. Agree. There's a nuance here -- he reported on the news sent directly under his fat face, not what was sent to his office. If the SID actually did not send materials to KXAS and their sports department, I will gladly sit through 4 hours of Beer Man Clockwork Orange-style. I agree that getting the awards placed as newsworthy is a stretch and didn't care to comment on the thread, but King Hippo going all bitchy on the program for letting *him* down is just not right.

  37. Oh boohoo...my interpretation based on knowing how this process works...Newy had to waddle his fat ass over to get the notes and summaries that went to every sports desk in the area while the others probably laced their release with the delicious scent of ham and put his name front and center on the email. If getting the information was important, why didn't he mention the Southland?

  38. Yup...if there's one thing I'm known for around here it's my pessimism towards North Texas basketball. Guess maybe I should have a change of hart. Or even heart.
    1 point
  39. I think all of our hearts believe we'll go to the NCAA tournament, just like all of our hearts believe we'll be bowling this year in football. However, our minds are capable of interpreting facts... like for instance, our 4 best players from last years team graduated and we'll be relying on transfers and freshmen (who have never played together, save rec/pickup games) to gel in 1 season. Tony Mitchell or not, that is much more easily said than done. If you "GUARANTEE" a spot in the NCAA tourney, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. If you "think" or "hope" we get a spot, then you're with the rest of us! There are some reasons to believe we will. Unfortunately, there are some reasons to belive we won't.

  40. I went back and reviewed earlier thread "Possible Transfer" and Censored by Laurie called me on the carpet for enthusiastically believing or guaranteeing our team makes the Dance. K. Hogans continues to say and believe we'll be dancing and I'm sure coach Leonard would say the same. Certainly sounds like it base on his conversation with Censored by Laurie. So, my questions stands as asked. Did Censored by Laurie's conversation change his mind or hart about UNT's chances to go "Dancing"?

  42. Visualize the main pockets of Houston fans at the game. Sections 125 and 124 were solid. Across the way, 102 and 103 had some fans in red, and the wing zone had a small but rowdy group; 115 & 116 had a solid contingent of UH fans. Other than that, ya'll are being way too generous with UH attendance. The student side sits 8,000. If you put all the UH fans in one area, there is no way they would fill up half of the student side. There were not 4,000 UH fans in attendance. No way. I'd guess 1,500 to maybe 2,000. Ya'll are giving them way too much credit. But............those that did make the trip, I'm glad they came.
