Man those Texas bible thumpers have always been a problem for liberal Alabama, huh? In a related story, I just used the bathroom with a black guy. Your move.7 points

Saturday was a watershed moment for me at UNT. Through all the trials and tribulations, I've resisted calling UNT my own. As it turns out, I've spent almost as much time here as I did at my unnamed alma mater. Pending discussions with the faculty, I may spend another four years here. On Saturday, we ran what was in my estimation, one of the best tailgates I've ever seen. Manning the grill for hours on end, I maintained fine until the third quarter. At that point, it hit me like a brick wall. I started hugging some of you. If that offended, I apologize. It was, however, somewhat of a prearranged situation with the kid staying with her mom, and my having a room in Denton. When the game was over, my fraternity took me in for the night and we had a grand old time. It's time for me to acknowledge that UNT is as much my own as any other school I may have attended, and my drunken affections toward you were merely an expression of that. I've turned the corner. UNT is my school. To those of you with whom I've...disagreed with over the past few years, my apologies. To those who saw me slurring in the latter portions of the game on Saturday, I apologize. But I take great memories from Saturday. I hope to make more. We'll be out tailgating again for the Indiana game. Nay, we'll be camping overnight on Friday and making a weekend out of it. My thanks to all of you for making this experience so memorable. Tony5 points

Let me be just straight-out honest here - and I hope the University of North Texas Athletic Department officials, coaches, AND the President of our university read this - and I hope they care: If the athletic department at this university should choose to operate a program that is based on cheating in order to be successful........I, along with my contributions to this program, am out of here! Pure and simple - no ifs, ands, or buts! We win with ethical behavior, pride, and class or this athletic program can follow your suggestion without me. GMG4 points

I got the impression from this post that a lot of your tailgating was done from outside while the game was going on. If so, I look forward to you being part of the grander solution one day and not the problem. If I misinterpreted, my apologies.3 points

you guys played a solid FIU team and a possible heisman candidate in keenum and now you face bama. i would get discouraged yet. your non conf schedule is rough this year but once you get into conference play i expect you guys to do much better. winning conference games and getting a softer non-conf schedule in future years will drive this program back to where it belongs. im sure coach mac would have greatly taken a B- in his first 2 games at ISU. we had doughnut and 1 win seasons when he first started so just give it time guys. i think i heard you guys lost 58 of your last 71 games IIRC thats a big rebuilding project (similar to what ISU was) it took dan about 4-5 years to make ISU decent so just give him time2 points

Sorry if some in this thread hurt your feelings buddy. Folks around here are just plain meanie pants with their sarcastic remarks funny pictures. Would you feel better about the board if I told you I loved you? I love you.2 points

I really hope this thread is not indicative of the UNT fanbase. Most Bama fans have wished you guys the best of luck in the game and some of you have nothing but hurl insults. If this is how you guys are then whatever happens on Saturday happens(if it's an epic beatdown then so be it). I'm done with this board...2 points

Hey, the man said, "No excuses or finger pointing" after the first game. We should hold him to it. Look, I gave Dodge no quarter upon his hire because we had nearly the entire defense returning - and, the defense hadn't been the problem in 2005 or 2006. He wasted that badly. And, wasted experienced QBs for the sake of throwing his guy Vizza in there too soon. I love McCarney and was 111% for his hiring. But, he can't throw the players under the bus after two games. He'll lose his locker room if he does. Against FIU, they damn well shouldn't have been kicking the ball to T.Y. Hilton. And, in my opinion, there should have been more rotating of DTs in both games. We need bodies in there. No one on the roster was proven going into the season. Can't understand why Brooks and Thompson were not - and have not - been rotated in. Again, how much is there to lose when no returning DT really was an known impact player anyway? I said it during the Dodge Era, and I'll say it again now - somehow Kragthorpe at Tulsa and Graham at Rice took their prior coaches players and turned them around in one season. Stoops did it in the Big 12 with John Blake's players; Mack Brown with Mackovic's. Maybe guys aren't buying into McCarney the way those other school's players bought into Kragthorpe, Graham, Stoops, and Brown.2 points

Well according to this, McCarney is rated lowest of the three new Belt coaches, not exactly exciting. Too early to tell much, other than McCarney is not a miracle worker. Based on such a small sample the rating may be high. I did not expect NT to be non-competitive against FIU, the game against Houston was better but after an inspired first half the team was man handled in the second half. McCarney coached under Fry, but I frankly don't remember Fry ever publicly questioning his team's talent. If anything, he constantly build up the team even in the first bad years. McCarney no doubt can accurately evaluate his team but college sports is an emotional game. Inferior teams play over their ability often, I am not sure this constant questioning of the current talent level helps the team. Honest maybe, but is it wise? I think McCarney is the real deal, and the team will steadily improve, I'm just not sure the program can endure a 4 or 5 year rebuilding cycle after the last six years of decline.2 points

CtrlAltDel, seems to me Tampax would be an appropriate company to sponsor a team known as "Roll Tide" with your red uniforms. Typical SEC smack. Without Texas you boys wouldn't be able to recruit enough high school athletes from Bama to field a starting eleven. Oh, and it is North Texas, but then again, what else would I expect from a moron with Bear Bryant tattooed across his back. I'm looking forward to an invitation to your 6th grade graduation. Guess you can walk the aisle with your son.2 points

You're terrible at smack. Put in a room with LSU, A&M and Auburn, that's a distant 5th according to my Alabama algebra text.2 points

Heh to some of the responses on here. BTW, if you want to see our side of the aisle, come over to WoollyAl. WoollyAl.com Be sure and check out the Rack-out thread. Warning though, I run the site and the language there can get a little salty. Here is hoping for an injury free game this Saturday and if any of you make the trip, be safe and hope you enjoy your time in Bryant-Denny(except for the score, of course)2 points

I've always been of the opinion that these programs that rise to the top really fast must be doing something illegal. Hope the good people at Univ of Central Florida and South Florida are watching closely.2 points

BUT HE PLAYS GOLF, WEARS A HAT BACKWARDS, RIDES HIS BOAT ON LAKE LEWISVILLE AND SMILES TOO MUCH!!!!! HE DON'T GIVE A SINGLE CRAP ABOUT THIS TEAM!!!!2 points

The Boring Bears only got into the Big12 with political ties and pressure. Now they are using threats to stay in the Big12. They have no value to better conferences. Maybe the WAC will want them?2 points

I had the chance to catch up briefly with Coach Leonard on Saturday...he was already set up and tailgating when I made it to the Hill around 1:30...thought that was pretty awesome. I congratulated him on such a great recruiting class and if he knew anything about Patton and Franklin's eligibility...he said Patton will be good to go and they're hopeful on Franklin. He then excitedly brought up Mitchell, telling me what we knew that he'd be eligible in December. Never seen a coach beaming so much over a player.1 point

I'll try. The crowd was amazing and Houston's coach mentioned that they didn't expect noise to be a factor and that made a big difference in the game early on.Lance Dunbar has struggled because he had a concussion in fall camp and hadn't practiced muchHe expects all 3 quarterbacks to play this seasonThompson is basically a freshman so he thinks he will improve a lot this season. They weren't happy with the secondary play in the game and they'll work on it.Alabama is loaded with draft picks but we will try to improve in that game.He had heard Olen was good but hadn't seen it until the Houston game, that was the reason for pumping him up during the game after the field goal and the kick off out of the endzone. We need more playmakers on the team like Brelan.Canales came down to the sideline which he also did during the FIU game from the press box. Said that the coaches were having to do a lot of the leading of this team right now which ideally the upperclassmen would be doing.Hoped that the team wasn't used to losing and accepting it, because it better make them sickAtterbury is the most confident player on the team right now.I'm sure there was more but that's what I can remember now.1 point

"The football program was found to have committed recruiting, impermissible housing and transportation violations involving 63 student-athletes from between 2005 and 2009. The individual amounts of the violations ranged from $2.34 to a maximum of $417.55 and have been reimbursed." A maximum of $417.55? SMU of the 80's would be laughing at that one. You know, this sounds like stuff that just about any program could be found in violation of....on any given year. As we start moving up the food chain, we better have some very good compliance people working for us.1 point

Reasonable article. You can't give Coach Mac much less than that. He inherited something that's not good by FBS standards, and is turning it around quickly. This deal is all about leadership, no matter if you are running a business or an FBS football program; we have the right guy and right staff in place to do special things in Denton for many years to come. No question, it'll take time, but it's going to be fun to watch and be a part of!1 point

All of these programs are leaving the Big XII because of the Longwhorns' arrogance. If they were gone, then all of the other programs would stay, and you could easily find a replacement for t.u. It was the same thing back in the days of the SWC. Arkansas got tired of it and said bye bye.1 point

I don't want to do this, but Alabama 49 North Texas 13. Lance held under 65 yards again, but has a good day receiving. Osborn/McNutly play most of 2nd half at QB...just a guess. We are so overmatched in the talent department it's not even funny. My hope is we continue to get better fundamentally, don't make stupid mistakes, gain valuable experience at a game speed most of these kids have not experienced, and obviously hope to get out injury-free; as I do feel if we do those very things, fans could be pleasantly surprised on how we beat up a Big 10 opponent next week in Apogee.1 point

I say we go in there with the attitude that we are going to win! WE CAN BEAT ALABAMA!!! And we need to have that attitude! We had tremendous improvement between weeks 1 and 2. WE ARE READY!!! WATCH OUT CRIMSON TIDE...BECAUSE HERE COMES THE MEAN GREEN OF NORTH TEXAS!!!!!1 point

Ok...that's fine. I've been called a fool before, so maybe I'll be proven to be one in this situation. Fact is this coaching staff has proven itself worthy of a fan believing or even guaranteeing a spot in the dance this year. Note 5 or 6 years of 20 win seasons. No matter how young this team is and with our recent additions we're not that young. Yes I'm expecting Franklin (sp) to receive a waiver and be eligible this year. Yes, I know UNT success with the NCAA has been dismal regarding waivers. In my mind the team JJ will bring to the court this year; however, young will be one of the most talented he's put on the floor in years. Then enter 5 Star Mr. Tony Mitchell and yes I expect him to be eligible to play around Dec. 17th. If anyone watched the USA U19 squad knows Mr. Mitchell is a very special BB player. I consider Mr. Mitchell to be a game changer. UNT doesn't start conference play until Christmas or the new year. There's isn't a player in the SBC that comes close to Tony's talent. Put Tony in the mix with our other players that have been playing together for a month or two, and we're dancing!!! Again, time will tell. As for comparing UNT Men's BB to UNT FB is laughable. I'm very realistic about how many games or what type of competition our FB team can and will be competitive against. JJ and team deserves much more UNT nation fan support and their corresponding "faith" to believe that our team will win!!! Therefor the UNT nation can set high expectations for our BB team and let them fulfill our expectation. If I didn't have this view I wouldn't be supportive of RV continual contract extension and raises for JJ and his staff. UNT's Men's BB team are winners and I expect them to be. When we go dancing this year I'll be looking a the NCAA selection committee to see if they give our team the appropriate seed in March. I won't satisfied with a 16 or even 15 seed. Sure is nice to be able to have appropriate expectations of my team!!! Everyone has a choice: is the glass half full or half empty. I'll bet our team works their A%$^& off to prove me right. I'm sure they have the same expectation that I do, so they'll work at hard as they can to become the best they can be. I'll give you another example of glass half full, or empty. When Tony Mitchell arrived at UNT there was a question of Mr. Mitchell making his grades, and some in the UNT nation questioned his ability to get it done. I was shocked. I figured if Tony Mitchell was gifted enough to play basketball at the NBA level, how in the world would he allow himself to not make his grades and put his NBA future at risk? Low and behold Mr. Mitchell made his grades and didn't sacrifice his future career. Surprisingly Mr. Mitchell's current GPA is somewhere between 3.25 to 3.50. In fact JJ must have a long history of recruiting players that can't spell their own name!!!1 point

And to add on to this thought...we've a group of fans who seem to relish in a North Texas basketball loss. They only come over to the basketball board following a loss and start popping off phrases like "this team is playing street ball" or "why don't we play zone?" or "does this team not practice free throws?" or "why didn't we pick up full court in the waning moments of last year's conference championship game against Arkansas-Little Rock when Soloman Bozeman hit a clutch 3 pointer with our best defender on him, but only picking up at half court?" Just some generic examples. They're a whip. And they're considerably more frequent when people confuse expectations with hopes, coupled with logic. There are 340 some odd teams dreaming of an NCAA birth...150 or so aren't kidding themselves. To be making guarantees 3 months before tip and with more unknowns than knowns is foolish.1 point

it is ridiculous to think that we don't deserve local media coverage because our scheduling is poor or that we do, in fact, lose. isn't there an old adage, "there's no such thing as bad publicity."? i guess we all should wait to show up at games or talk up the mean green program until they win, huh?! that's FUBAR. i don't think its unfair to expect or simply ask him to mention a record setting night. email sent.1 point

Quick Breakdown: We'd take every one of their 105 and then some; and they may want a handful of our 85 guys...maybe if we're lucky. That being said, looking forward to seeing Coach Mac's approach in a game like this.1 point

The defense was the most impressive part of the game to me, besides Dez Bryant in the first quarter. It's obvious that they have improved under Rob Ryan. Let's put it this way, at one point our top 3 corners were all out of the game. I thought they played pretty well.1 point
