Good smack! BTW, found out the scoreboard will show quadruple digits. We hooked a DOT scale to it and weighed your mom last night.10 points

Don't get too excited. Following advice from a person who shall remain nameless.....Coach Mac is saving him for the last quarter of the final game of the season.9 points

Just an FYI for anyone looking for some Mean Green gear. In the campus coupon books, Voertman's has a 25% off coupon. So instead of paying about $64 after tax for a Nike polo it's only $48.7. Just picked mine up! Voertmans has boxes of the books around the store. Their coupon is on page 8 or 9.5 points

Sept. 6, 2011 An Open Letter to University of North Texas Students from Head Football Coach Dan McCarney: This Saturday will be a historical and monumental day for the University of North Texas and the Mean Green football program. With the opening of the state-of-the-art Apogee Stadium, we are beginning a new era at North Texas. Along with my coaching staff and every member of this football team, we will work tirelessly to make this new era one that you can be proud of. College football is special because of the environment that is created by the students on campus. It all begins and ends with the students. We represent you every time that we step onto the field and we take that responsibility seriously. I have made it a mission of mine to interact with as many students as I could since I came to UNT nine months ago. I have spoken to countless groups, addressed every incoming freshman orientation class and been all over campus meeting and greeting you. I understand the importance of your potential impact on success for this football team and we can’t do it without your support. We need your help to make this week special. We only get one chance to open a new stadium and we need you to be a part of it. It all begins with the pep rally on Friday night. I am bringing my entire team so they ALL can see how excited you are for this game. On Saturday, when the team arrives and makes the Mean Green March down the hill to the stadium we want to be enveloped in a sea of Green and White. And finally at 6 p.m. when we face off against a very good Houston team, we want to play in front of the largest crowd to ever see a UNT football game in Denton. YOU can make the difference! It is the students that create the fervor and passion that can only be found at college football games. I have challenged this football team to play at a level of intensity that will make you proud and I would like to challenge you to create an environment that will be as equally satisfying for them to play in. I am honored to be the head football coach at UNT and I can’t thank all of you enough for the words of welcome that I have received since my arrival. Together, with your help, we will build this program into a point of pride for the entire University of North Texas family! There should be no polls or rankings before October! Why? Because you get crap like this week's USA today poll. Texas is ranked #21...four spots ahead of TCU. How is Texas ranked at all, much less ahead of the Rose Bowl champs?! Which of their FIVE wins last season was so impressive? And even IF you buy that they're better than TCU because the frogs lost their first game...tell me why Baylor, the team that beat them, isn't even ranked in this poll. And this isn't all about Texas...they're just the biggest example of the inherent flaw in the system.4 points

First, congratulations to North Texas students and Mean Green fans everywhere for selling out Apogee Stadium. But they didn't hear about it from KNTU Radio. Listening on the way home tonight (F) I paid special attention to the KNTU sports report. I even took notes so I'd be accurate. The stories in order: 1. Ohio State gymnastics coach arrested 2. NFL Packers vs. Saints 3. Jets vs. Cowboys 4. Jason Garrett used to play for the Giants 5. Jay Ratliff got new contract 6. Serena Williams had a tantrum 7. Somebody shot a NBA Grizzlies guard 8. NASCAR Now I was told to wait until Friday and that there would be lots of coverage of the NT-Houston game and the opening of Apogee Stadium. Zip, nada, nuthin'. I know the "K" is a FCC assigned letter, but what in the world does "NTU" stand for ? 'Cause it certainly isn't North Texas. GO MEAN GREEN3 points

hey guys dont let the houston fans get to you. they believe they are good enough for the big 12 when its clear they arent when they got dumped after the SWC broke up. just let them have their day in the sun and keep letting them think they are good after a fluke win against UCLA last week3 points

If there is nothing wrong with A&M acting in their own self interest then there is nothing wrong with Baylor and the others doing the same, right?3 points

I've always wondered why UNT doesnt show replays of the games on NTTV or something. Granted we've lost a crapload of games and no one wants to relive those things. Were replays of the Dickey years on NTTV ever?3 points

Funny how some people in here say Baylor had no business being in the Big 12, while others in here like to believe UNT could replace A&M in the big 12. Guess it's all a matter of perspective.3 points

That is silly, for the sq footage that was closed down, there have been more sq footage opened back up and/or converted to bar space. Yes, Cool Beans lost the extension - but Joe's Cleaners turned into a bar. Yes, the Tomato went away - but Eagle Book and Supply became a bar. Yes, Bagari's was demolished and so was Mr Chopsticks - but Riprocks and Lou's both added huge beer gardens out front - Rick's Place opened back up after a decade shutdown, the old First State Bank became Crooked Crust Pizza, Muthers added a huge side beer garden and became the Garage, The Tavern expanded, and State Club became Jimmy Johns. There are more options down on Fry now then there were 10-15 years ago - and they are all bigger and better than the memories in your heads. Plus the construction is finally underway and the empty lots where the Tomato once stood will soon be filled with new college hangouts, this time with condos on the second and third floors and more parking for the area. I would say that Fry Street has gotten better, not worse - just my opinion. I don't miss the run down comic book stores or empty barber shops THAT much :>).3 points

As much as I disliked this whole ticket thing, it was awesome having a ticket to your team's game, instead of wielding a student ID at the gate. I'm definitely keeping the ticket for the scrapbook.3 points

Good article to find. One thing I still find funny is A&M's claims about the LHN. A&M build 12th Man Production studios several years back and has been to ESPN, Fox, CBS, and generally anyone with a satellite uplink trying to get an Aggie network created. Bill Byrne has talked about this for years. No one was interested. But when UT manages to pull of exactly what A&M was trying to do, UT is the Devil incarnate!3 points

Breach of contract (A&M) or Tortious interference with a contract (SEC). I'm actually quite in favor of this move, and I think KU, KSU, Mizzou, ISU, Baylor, and possibly TT should all be in this camp as well. If any of these schools end up harmed by A&M's departure, the law provides for them to receive compensation from A&M (or the SEC). A&M signed a contract saying they'd be in the Big 12. Lots of plans were made based on that contract (i.e. funding a new practice facility). A&M shouldn't be able to walk out of it just because they got a better offer. If A&M wants to walk out, then they can propose a negotiated settlement (waiver of ISU's rights for $$$). Refusing to waive your right to sue isn't the same as actually doing it. Why SHOULD Baylor waive their rights. As you said, there are no damages YET. The 1.2 Billion dollar B12 TV cotract with Fox was predicated on aTm being a member AND the conference wouldn't drop below 10 members. They signed on the dotted line. When CU and Nebraska left the TV contract remained unchanged, no damages, no court case at all. In this case if the B12 dissolves due to aTm's breach of contract I think it is a trivial point to prove damages. Why doesn't the SEC just say "the heck with it" and give aTm an unconditional invite if Baylor there is no case?2 points

Dear Benny, Back in 1975 at Texas Stadium, you guys didn't even use the single digit side of your scoreboard. If you didn't use what was provided you then, why should we get excited about some boastful talk now ? GO MEAN GREEN2 points

I would call the athletic ticket office and see if they have a "recent grad" rate on tickets. They do for football, so maybe they do for basketball as well. Might save you some bucks to make a phone call. AND....thanks so much for being part of the basketball band...you guys did great work and I really enjoyed the games even more with your help. I appreciated all you did, and thank you for making the games even that much more enjoyable for all!2 points

our new arena won't be open until February from what I've read. That would have been a great first game in the new facility. A UNT team with lots of talented new players vs. UTA with most of the last year's team back with a few new players (mostly junior college transfers). Always a good one. And the always say, anything can happen at Texas Hall!2 points

To be fair, I think barnacles can win at least 20% of their conference games. Homestead tension rules!2 points

Unfortunately I live in Waco and it's not pretty here with a lot of crying going on. I can only hope Baylor get's what it deserves due to Ann Richards actions to get them in a conference they didn't deserve to be in, and their record has shown it. My fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon is putting on their second SigEp Supports the Troops during our tailgate for the game on Saturday. We will be accepting items to send care packages to troops overseas. Last year was a great success and this year should be no different. So while you're out picking up supplies for your tailgate pick up a few things to send our troops Our tailgate will be somewhere on The Hill. Shouldn't be too hard to find us. Technically, it was NOT Ann Richards. The Governor just doesn't have that much power. Lt. Gov. Bob Bullock was instrumental in getting both Baylor and Tech included. The threatened to start reviewing UT and A&M budgets line by line, something the Lt. Governor most certainly DOES have the power to do.1 point

It doesn't matter who the judges are because when you go up on appeal, you rarely get people who have an interest in the matter. If they do, they have to recuse themselves. The judges at the lower levels are supposed to recuse if they even remotely have a dog in the fight. At the Supreme Court level, you have no justices who went to a school in either the SEC or Big 12. They're all Ivy Leaguers who could care less. At the appeals level, the law is applied if the lower courts monkey around with it. They are bound to follow precedent. They are countless lawsuits involving universities and associations. And, thousands on contracts. Baylor isn't going down some novel legal avenue here. And, yes, anyone "could" sue anyone. But, that doesn't mean they will succeed. Again, we're talking about well-worn legal paths here. And, the results haven't been on litigants like Baylor's side. Baylor is trying to time waste. In this situation, think of Baylor as Todd Dodge versus OU in 2007, behind 63-7 in the fourth quarter, but still having his QB snap the ball with 20 seconds left on the play clock every play and pass every down. The game is, for all intents and purposes, over. Baylor may not like the handwriting on the wall. But, if necessary, a court will go ahead and make it plain for them.1 point

At the risk of being bombarded with -1 If A&M is being "whinny", what does that say about all of our comments about wanting to move to another conference and the daily "SMU is out to get us"?1 point

I like that Baylor is couching this as fighting to preserve Texas football tradition and its rivalries. You know, preserving TX rivalries, just like the way that Baylor fought hard to get TCU, SMU, and Houston into the Big 12 when the SWC broke up.1 point

Man, so all it takes to get clout is to go 18-125 in your conference? Maybe we do belong in the Big 12.1 point
