  1. In Texas, we haven't seen the heat this bad since the NBA Finals.

  2. Legit. I wish I could find out how much support the student body is giving. I hated the fact that I was the only one who would walk into my class wearing our own schwag. I hated that the largest crowd ever during my time was 20,000 against NMSU, when we half-assed stormed the field and paraded the goal posts around Fry. Even my sister who was a few years older than me mocked me for going to every home game. Hell, they're ours, good, bad or mediocre. Embrace the school, and realize that if Boise can do it, anyone can.

  4. First off for the record, Vito covers UNT and ONLY UNT. He doesn't go cover high school stuff for the DRC/DMN. As for lazy, were you there last night to see the Mean Green volleyball team kick the crap out of UTA? Because Brett was. Also, it's obvious you completely missed the DRC Football Preview magazine, with 15 full pages of UNT coverage and a special glossy center section all about Apogee Stadium. And second, are you for real? You're pissed because they didn't talk about UNT in a story about six former conference mates playing each other, instead of playing FCS schools to start the season? Dude come on. I bleed as green as anybody on here, but I also understand when the DMN doesn't do a write-up about a team that hasn't won back-to-back home games in nearly half a decade playing a non-televised game 1,300 miles away in another time zone. Also who's to say that Brett didn't write a UNT/FIU preview and the DMN dropped because of all the A&M to the SEC crap?

  8. Yeah, before this thread gets moved, I guess Fred thought he was being funny or provocative or making some point about something. Looks like he was wrong on all counts. Just a useless comment from a guy who does reverse mortgage commercials. OK, now the thread can migrate to Pie Town.

  9. Well, for all I care all the conference crap can hit the fan after we win in Miami tonight!

  10. If you wear another school's/team's gear to a game in which said team is not competing, you're being a "(insert said school/team) douche." So, if Coog here rocks up tonight in his red and white he is a "Houston Douche"...very simple...goes for any, in this case, non UNT/FIU clad people in attendance. The "_______ douche" follows at least one of these two mindsets: 1. He feels his team is vastly superior to the two participants...and that by proxy makes HIM vastly superior to the participants supporters. This is highly prevalent in the Texas Douche. 2. He is there simply to antagonize. This is often the case with a rival or direct competitor...like this guy. The claim of not owning UNT gear in this case only holds water if every bit of clothing owned by this person is Houston gear. Otherwise...if you do claim to support UNT save against Houston...wear a green polo, t-shirt or in a pinch, green-man suit. Or simply go neutral. Otherwise...you're being a douche.

  11. Just saw on ESPN that they are hearing that the Big XII will look to BYU, Notre Dame or potentially Pitt or Louisville to fill their vacancy(s). Apparently they are NOT looking for more Texas teams because they already own that portion of their footprint. Admittedly what's bad for SMU may be equally bad for us...but at least it's bad for SMU.

  12. Who pissed in your Wheaties? I went to a game at Fouts last year. I went to the UNT spring game. I watched UNT games on TV last year. I follow the UNT team. Even though the support I give to UNT is tiny, it's more than too many UNT alums (and I know UH has its share of the same kind of alums). I'll always be a die hard Coog fan, but I can also be a casual UNT fan. I'll probably never buy a Mean Green shirt because I'd rather have UH gear, but I will continue to go to UNT games because it's fun and convenient. Maybe you don't need the casual fan who went to another school. Maybe you hardcore fans are enough although it hasn't been in the past. I know UH can use the support of every local Houston resident it can get even if they went to another school. Well I'm a Denton area resident supporting the local school, even if it is not my own. I'll be at the UH game cheering for my Coogs, but I'll probably make a couple more games this year, cheering for the Mean Green. If that makes me a tool, so be it. But I'm sure your program could use some more tools like me supporting it.

  13. Let the Dan McCarney Era begin! I think we are in for an incredible ride! May not manifest with lots of wins in 2011, but the foundation is being laid for the resurgance of Mean Green Football. New Orleans get ready! The North Texas Bowl will be returning. See you at FIU! ParksAndRecRick Rick Herold

  21. Did you know Fred Thompson went to Hanoi in 1972 and accused the American military forces of purposely destroying the dikes on the Red River? He was even photographed on a piece of North Vietnamese artillery with a bunch of Viet Cong.

  24. Fred Thompson is far from the Hollywood bunch. He's actually a pretty conservative Republican ... really more of a country boy from Tennessee. He was a Republican nominee for President in 2008. President Bush tapped him to lead Supreme Court Justices John Roberts and Samuel Alito through their congressional hearings.

  29. To all, UNT90Grad and I just had the idea having taking a laptop, hooking up an HDMI cable to a tv, and using their wifi to stream. It was super easy. We called them, went and tested the connection and it was on. bada-boom, bada-bing, watching party off a laptop tomorrow night. It seems like more trouble than it's worth, but it really is quite simple. I had to borrow my neighbor's laptop cause it has HDMI out and i am tkaing a boombox for the audio. We will post pictures, I hope, afterwards. just find a restaurant with wifi that isn't slammed.

  33. So what do you do when you have no helmet for practice because you accidentally left yours in the back of dad's truck on a day he's on duty? Find one of dad's old 34 year old collectibles that actually fits and go with it. Rick

  35. Good work Vito. Overlander was the best player on a very talented Argyle squad last year. I'm pretty sure he won multiple tournament MVPs throughout the year. He's got good range, good size. Local talent staying in Denton. It's got a nice ring to it.

  36. Space is limited in today's major newspapers. If UNT isn't selling papers, then there isn't any reason to save room for them. I promise you this has nothing to do with Vito being lazy. If you want more UNT coverage then we need to get more fans that will click their links and buy their papers. In order to get those types of fans, we need to do one thing: win. Blame the lack of the coverage on a bad football team the past six seasons.

  37. You said we get alot worse coverage then 5 years ago? i dont mean to piss anyone off...but we have SUCKED in football these last 5 years. Even though we have a bunch of great things going on for our university, and coach mac is leading a revival of our football team (FIWHO? IS GOING DOWN TOMORROW) we need to give the dallas paper a REASON to write about us....and that starts with wins. Success on the Field = Publicity off of it!!! GO Mean Green!

  40. If this has been mentioned before, please forgive me. I was surprised that my parking lot assignment included a specific parking space. I understood that I'd be given a lot and to find my space within that lot. A space that I can count on and nurture as it grows up is really more than I expected. I'll be taking pictures of my space and posting them here as soon as I can. I think I'll dress it up for it's first game. I'm just so proud. GO MEAN GREEN

  44. Was at the rec this afternoon. I saw Tony Mitchell. He looked good. Then later i came across Johnny Jones with a recruit from Argyle. He realized I recognized him and he came and talked to me. I must say he is one of the nicest guys. He took time to ask my name where I was from and chat with me for a sec. UNT is lucky to have Johnny Jones.
