Without question, IMO, the worst decision we ever made was allowing ourselves to drop down to i-aa. There is a very strong chance that we will never recover from that decision, even with the new found commitment to athletics and facilities. The lack of respect and the injection of even more apathy that this created still haunts us today. If these super conferences get created and it effectively locks us into a new 1-aa again, we are really going to hear it from the haters at UNT for spending so much on a new stadium, especially during these difficult economic times. If we get dropped down again and we are still in the SBC, it isnt hard to imagine 10 years from now having crowds that were very similar from our Fouts/SLC days. A game with Louisiana-Monroe in 2020 will look a lot like it did when they were Northeast Louisiana and they came to Fouts in 1990 if we are back at the equivalent of 1-aa. Upgrading from Fouts saved our football program, but our prolonged lack of support for athletics may very well get us a place back at the kids table. If it happens, we really have no one to blame but ourselves. I just wouldn't want to be the guy who gets grilled by the "old nestor-types" about the costs of the new stadium if we do get dropped back.5 points

I thought SMU slept with everyone's significant other and Texas stole Nathan Tune's dog.5 points

That's because Texas slept with everyone on this board's significant others. Surprised you didn't know that.5 points

We will have 25,000+ and UH will have 5,000, and we will enter the game with a 1-0 record. I've got 4 tickets including one alumni that is a TCU season ticket holder with his brother. He will be attending his first NT game in probably 15 years, and will be hearing from the ticket office about supporting his alma mater. One of my sons will be attending with me and I currently have 1 extra ticket, but it will be utilized.4 points

I like to think I am. I got my season tickets and parking passes in the mail today. I talked four of my friends into joining the Mean Green Club, and buying season tickets for the first time. I talked eight coworkers into buys tickets and coming out to the Houston game. Last Friday at work, I sent out a group email forwarding the information about Thursday's watch party at the stadium. The believe the athletic department is doing everything it can. I think most of us on here are doing what we can, and I know there will be more Green then red.4 points

Look man...I like your enthusiasm, but let's just go ahead and tap the breaks on guaranteeing post-season, national media coverage and an all of a sudden passionate 7500-10,000 strong fan base. Especially in August. I think we have the potential for a very deep and versatile team, however we return just 4 lettermen and will be counting rather heavily on a group of freshmen and counting on the immediate eligibility of two transfers (Franklin and Patton), something that I've yet to see as set with certainty. We've no proven perimeter shooters. We've no proven rebounding presence...at least until late December. We've two freshmen and a sparingly used red-shirt sophomore pencilled in at the 1. It takes a lot more than just raw talent to be a successful basketball team...let alone the special one you're predicting. I am very excited to see the product JJ has put together...but again, there a still lots of questions that need to be answered before any of us should be booking flights and hotels for a month long roadie with the Men's team in March. Also...no grown man should ever use "LOL" for anything other than irony's sake.3 points

A stadium that isn't filled has far more effect on perception than one that's on the smaller side. No one's chomping at the bit for Rice, Tulane, and UAB.3 points

You said we get alot worse coverage then 5 years ago? i dont mean to piss anyone off...but we have SUCKED in football these last 5 years. Even though we have a bunch of great things going on for our university, and coach mac is leading a revival of our football team (FIWHO? IS GOING DOWN TOMORROW) we need to give the dallas paper a REASON to write about us....and that starts with wins. Success on the Field = Publicity off of it!!! GO Mean Green!2 points

Hi Flyer, If you read the blog you linked to you'll find there's a bit more to the story. The Cern study did indeed show that the sun influences climate, that's something we've known for a very long time. In the Nature article the authors are careful to make it clear that climate change isn't just due to solar radiation or the interaction between solar radiation and the earth's atmosphere. Rather climate is determined by a complex interplay between solar radiation, the atmosphere, the oceans, and the biosphere - the biosphere includes anthropogenic impacts. No where in the article do the authors suggest that anthropogenic release of fossil CO2 isn't occurring or that the CO2 entering the atmosphere doesn't play a role in climate change. The authors, like nearly all scientists, recognize that man is releasing massive amounts of CO2 through the burning of fossil fuels, that CO2 is a potent greenhouse gas, and that the CO2 is interacting with abiotic factors to cause a dramatic increase in mean global temperatures. Science denial ain't nice... God bless Texas2 points

Perception is everything. Which is why, lame as it may be, I agree... we should have a site with OUR selling points, why this University matters, etc... because quite frankly, most people outside of DFW don't know a damned thing about UNT.2 points

No way UH has the majority of fans. I estimate 4-5K. We're doing well in Section 202. I've bought tickets in rows 4-9 and 12-15. Between Aug 15 and Aug 29, only two extra rows (10-11) were purchased in 202 from my previous block. The sales seem to be steady but it will take quite a surge for a sellout, especially on the ends. The GA seats will be big sellers on game day. Beat FIU!2 points

I find it funny that we bemoan the fact we don't have any natural rival in the Sun Belt, meanwhile A&M just left the conference with the best rival they will ever have by far.2 points

If this has been mentioned before, please forgive me. I was surprised that my parking lot assignment included a specific parking space. I understood that I'd be given a lot and to find my space within that lot. A space that I can count on and nurture as it grows up is really more than I expected. I'll be taking pictures of my space and posting them here as soon as I can. I think I'll dress it up for it's first game. I'm just so proud. GO MEAN GREEN2 points

SMU won't be moving up to the Big 12 so we can stop that talk. I also think the Big 12 will add one team and continue on it's way. However, what happens if Texas and OU (taking OSU with them) leave for independence and/or the Pac-12? Then I think you could see a big reorganizing of the non-BCS conferences. Perhaps the remainder of the Big 12 grab some western CUSA teams and some eastern MWC teams ... and maybe NT ... to form a new conference. New Conference Iowa State Kansas Kansas State Missouri Air Force Colorado State Baylor Texas Tech Houston SMU North Texas Tulsa I'd love to replace Tulsa with Oklahoma State if they split from OU - heck, I'd replace Tulsa with just about any other school. I think this would immediately become the best non BCS conference - assuming it would lose it's BCS ranking. This is a conference I would love to follow even if it didn't include UNT. Disclaimer: I spent about 10 minutes on this so forgive me if I've missed something obvious. Like I said, I don't think this will happen but it would be great for UNT if it did.2 points

WE? WE? I thought you were a community college student currently that plans on transferring to North Texas. We, North Texas, are not Miami, have no desire to be Miami and have much better reputation than they will ever have. Our conference titles go beyond the couple earlier this decade in the Sun Belt, back when we integrated our sports teams way before SMU ever thought about it and were recruiting players the likes of Mean Joe Greene, Cedrick Hardeman, Abner Haynes, Steve Ramsey, Ron Shanklin, Ray Renfro, etc.... You can't compare Miami's nine conference titles with our's when the majority of our's were in an era prior to the "super" conferences that are currently ruining college football. Miami is Thug U. Your clip of Sapp and Irvin says it all. Oh, and Randall Hill is another fine example of "The U's" character. I can't believe people like this program. Not here to bash North Texas? Really? Let's see, you've called us "$hitty" and drop MF's here and there, discredit our history. I'd hate to see what you call bashing. Maybe you should apply to Miami. As was mentioned earlier, if you are coming to North Texas, support North Texas.2 points

But who's buying the tickets? North Texas fans, or Houston fans? I know we will out number them at the game, but I don't care to look over on either end of the home side and see large numbers of red.1 point

Good exercise. I hadn't thought of doing it that way but probably because I know how it would come out. Seven of my Top 10 are in CUSA so they're bound to win. Houston (natural rival, similar in size, academics and close enough for easy travel) SMU (would be a great backyard brawl) Air Force (always great to play a service academy and I actually have a discharge from the USAF) Rice (well-known and close; should be a decent draw every year) UTEP (Texas school and we have a good history with them) Memphis (would help our basketball recruiting even more) Louisiana (I love me some Cajun food) Tulsa (some history from the MVC and a good regional opponent) Colorado State (Mean Green vs. lean green) Southern Miss (a lot of our staff passed through there) Boise State (only because they're so good) San Diego State (selfish; my daughter and her family live there) Tulane (I love me some Cajun food...didn't I already say that?) UNLV (great trip; I've made that one before) New Mexico (good basketball; Southwest flies there) In spite of that I think that the MWC will have the better teams and thus a higher ranking. It would not disappoint me if we were able to land in that conference. Our having the largest number of alumni in the DFW market would benefit the Mountain West moreso than CUSA. Frankly, I don't expect that East Carolina and UCF will be in CUSA much longer if the Big East expands. If that happens CUSA may not even look as attractive as it does now. That's still not enough to dissuade me from eight teams that I'd really like for conference mates. I also think that the Sun Belt will show improvement albeit at a slower rate. They should consider going to 12 teams even if it means a smaller payout for awhile.1 point

The first expansion should be over the opposing teams' locker room. In those stadiums where the locker rooms are directly beneath stands, it can get quite loud before the teams run out onto the field. I've got a friend who played linebacker at UNLV. In the mid-90s, they played at Tennessee. He said their locker room was literally shaking from the noise when the pregame hoopla started (band, Vols running out onto the field, etc.). And, when they opened the door for the Rebels to run out on the field, the wall of sound hit him so much so that he froze. His position coach, who was behind him, kicked him in the butt and yelled, "Get your ass out there!" Tennessee whipped them. But, he said the noise before and during the game were intimidating, unlike anywhere else he played. We're not going to have 100,00+ like Tennessee (yet). But, if we are going to add on, let do it in a way to maximize the noise against our opponents.1 point

He should be a first ballot entry. Many here never saw it, but if you saw the Miracle In The Desert game alone you would understand. One of the greatest individual efforts by a QB I have ever seen, all with meniscus damage btw. He will go down as one of our toughest athletes of all time. I'm very appreciative to have gotten to witness most of it. Rick1 point
